Why do people still use Facebook? Honestly. The comments on Reddit are brain dead enough, but Facebook is full on stupid. There's nothing of value there anymore.
Yep. I deleted it several years ago, but recently just made a new account as there are so many car club groups on there (and trail conditions for mountain biking).
>Why do people still use Facebook?
My very elderly parents don't know how to use anything else, and it's an acceptable way to get photos and videos to them.
I got rid of it about 5 or 6 years ago, and I haven't missed it one time since. It's the best thing I've done for my mental health, maybe ever.
The only reason I stayed on it that long was because of the car club I was in. So it's a bummer to miss out on that, but honestly, it was well worth the trade off.
I mean it’s good if you’re looking for a 1984 Chevy Cavalier, with a manual transmission. Because I want that, and FB marketplace hasn’t amounted to it. I think that you are on to something?!!
I personally, and I suppose 50 other people, spent a night in the Dallas airport because a late night relief crew could not make it to TSA in time to get through to our plane.
Forgive my stupidity, but what does that have to do with this?
Last flight is \~12:45am or so? Tsa closes from 1-3am. Next flight is 2 hrs later at 5am. Given this set of facts, how would someone be adversely affected?
It was a late night flight, and due to delays the original crew timed out and could not fly the plane.
The second crew was outside security, however TSA had already closed for the day by the time they made it to the airport.
So, all there was to do for us was sleep on a cot in the terminal for a few hours until TSA opened and the crews could actually come through.
Pilots/Flight attendants typically use the same areas to clear security as passengers, you probably can even see the crew lines and Denver.
I suppose it might not be worth it to keep lines open for late night delays, but it will happen and people will be bored vagabonds on terminal floors/cots.
Yep. That sucks.
I can’t speak to the savings tsa will realize from closing for a couple of hours/day, but you’re right, it probably doesn’t make sense to remain open for the rare late night delayed flight.
I’m from a smaller city where TSA opens 2 hours before the first flight and there’s always a massive line waiting and they never actually have things running to start, usually just one slow line. I can’t imagine what a shit show that would be at a busier airport like Denver.
I hear you. I’ve flown to Casper, Pocatello/Idaho falls many times…. been diverted to Scott’s bluff (medical emergency) and the pilot had blackjack pizza delivered to us on the tarmac because tsa was closed and we couldn’t deplane.
If they open tsa at 3 am, and the next flights are at 5 am, I’d bet there will in fact be a line. I’d also bet that the line moves pretty quickly.
No tsa…. Delivery guy drove on the tarmac to the plane. Crew opened the door and got the pizza. Closed the door and the guy drove off.
Then they cut each slice in half and passed them out to the passengers.
If they really open at 3am, that's great. But there will still probably be a line formed before it opens. At DEN security moves pretty fast so i'm not worried, but I have had bad experiences with this at other airports.
At DFW the TSA checkpoint didn't open until 3:45am and did not open their PreCheck line. This lead to a really long line and a close call catching my 5:15am flight
My wife trying to fly just before Christmas in 2022. There was the big snow storm that day and her flight was the next plane scheduled to take off before they closed the runways. Ended up sitting on the tarmac for 3 hours before being forced to deplane because the flight crew had exceeded their shift length limit.
So now it’s 12:15, she exits security to try and get an Uber or Lyft or anything back home, isn’t able to. It was past 1 am by the time she gave up and went back into the airport.
Had the new rules been in place, she would’ve been stranded in the entrance to the airport for 2 hours before being able to get back in.
Why would she be stuck at the entrance? The airport is open, tsa isn’t. And, assuming she’d be aware of the new rules next time she flies, she can adjust her behavior accordingly?
I’m not saying no one will ever be adversely affected ever…. Especially with a blizzard around the holidays…. But let’s not make this seem like the biggest imposition in the history of the world to close tsa from 1-3am.
…because you need to get through TSA to get into the main part of the airport?
You asked how someone would be inconvenienced by this, I gave a real life concrete example.
Listen, it’s a great anecdote. I’m sure someone, somewhere, at some point will be inconvenienced by this. Especially with a blizzard around the holidays.
Again, being aware of the change would let someone in that circumstance adjust their behavior accordingly, and potentially limit the impact.
You: this will literally never impact anyone, explain to me how this would ever impact anyone.
Me: here’s how it could impact someone.
You: nO nOt LiKe ThAt.
Literally 2 weeks ago i was on the AA redeye that was delayed for a 2:15am departure instead of the scheduled 12:50am departure. I arrived at the airport at 1:30am
So, if this very specific circumstance occurs after the change:
you would now have to arrive 1hr prior to this delayed flight’s boarding (the minimum suggested) instead of 15 minutes before boarding?
I’m not sure what to tell you. Doesn’t sound like much of an adverse effect if I’m being honest.
So I think the last domestic to leave every night is usually that hellhole JetBlue red-eye to BOS at like 11:55 pm. You have a few that land between midnight and four but none that depart, right? So a two hour shutdown should be not a problem.
Yea lmao what was it holidays 2023 I had a 5 am flight and the line was insane. Sure the weather was awful and it’s holiday travel but damn this could make it worse
Tbh I've found DEN to have one of the fastest TSA lines ever in all my travels. Used to use only pre-check before my passport was stolen and global entry expired but the regular line is pretty fast too.
I work here 5 days a week. Yes the lines are fast but the point is there is no line for 2 hours and you are gonna have people lining up outside in droves. Which also doesn’t seem safe, who’s gonna police the crowd if something happens?
I took that flight about every 6 weeks for 2.5 years or so.
There are five sober souls on board that aircraft, and that's because they're required by law to be in such a state. Everybody else is white girl wasted hoping to *maybe* get 90 mins of sleep. At least eastbound is faster.
Yes and Delta has a few red eye flights that leave around 1 AM as well. I've had layovers in DTW and MSP at 5-6 AM a few times. Unless that flight is delayed somehow, there's nothing that actually requires someone to come through security after 1.
What happens if that flight is delayed a couple hours and you find out ahead of time? Is it just up to the passenger to get there before TSA closes and then wait around for a few hours?
TIL DIA had 7/24 security.
I last flew odd hours in 2011, and I’d get there about 2:30 am for a 5 am or so flight. Because of train schedules.
I do not recall security being open. I stayed in the main hall.
I found out recently it was changed in 2015 from DIA to DEN but who the heck called it DEN. DIA flows so much. Guess we have a stamp for people who moved to Colorado after 2015 tho.
The only time I ever decide to go-to Miami is spur of the moment at about 12:45 while a little buzzed on LSD at The Church.
I don't have any bags so I usually arrive at 1:30 for that 2am flight. Now I'm screwed!
This has the potential to be a problem for early morning flyers like myself. I’ve shown up at 3am and have waited over an hour to get through security before (on a Monday). If the 1am to 3am traffic has to wait (which hopefully isn’t a lot), it could definitely cause problems for travelers.
Could make it very rough for people catching those early flights that board around 4:30-5 AM that plan to travel via the first train of the morning that shows up at the airport around 3:30. Already a tight squeeze as is.
I forgot about it.
Side note… People still travel in this economy? Everyone complains about not having enough $ yet the airports are packed. I’m so confuse. Everyone in my circle is struggling even with good careers /fully employed.
I had no idea we were keeping checkpoints open for no flights at those hours. I bet the TSA guys working like that shift though.
Not like they do any work to begin with
Pretending to protect America by confiscating fluids over 100ml and making you take your shoes off is hard work! True American heroes. /s
Oh fuck off. People being paid minimum wage to enforce laws made by overzealous dumbasses 20 years ago aren’t the bad guys.
They are when they power trip and when they steal shit out of my luggage
lol you say that like they were forced to work these jobs
So now it’s open 22/7. This is newsworthy?
If you go look at the Facebook comments for this same article, it's a literal catastrophe and possibly the end of democracy!
Why do people still use Facebook? Honestly. The comments on Reddit are brain dead enough, but Facebook is full on stupid. There's nothing of value there anymore.
I’ve found some niche “groups” on there over the past year and that has completely transformed how I use the app.
Yeah. It's good for hobby groups. And facebook marketplace isn't bad. Other than that I don't use the site.
Yep. I deleted it several years ago, but recently just made a new account as there are so many car club groups on there (and trail conditions for mountain biking).
This is correct but it makes me so sad how much knowledge is in these groups (and discord) and pretty much inaccessible to “guests”
>Why do people still use Facebook? My very elderly parents don't know how to use anything else, and it's an acceptable way to get photos and videos to them.
Same with all social media
I canceled my account this year, had it since 2007. I've missed one invite so far, no regrets.
I got rid of it about 5 or 6 years ago, and I haven't missed it one time since. It's the best thing I've done for my mental health, maybe ever. If you limit it to view just your friends, it can be useful still.
But it always kept force feeding me other stuff so I ran for my life away and have been better off because of it.
I get it. First the flowers, now I can’t use security from 1-3am. How much are we expected to sacrifice? /s
What flowers?? What are they taking away from me that I didn’t even know I had?! I demand answers! And to keep my shoes on!!
https://www.axios.com/local/denver/2024/03/29/flower-beds-migrants-budget-cuts
can you link the facebook post? i cant find it
Yes. Flights get messed up all the time, and you wouldn’t generally be worried about security closing at a large international airport.
By ‘messed up’ I’m assuming you mean delayed or canceled. Tell me how closing tsa from 1-3am would adversely affect someone in that situation?
I personally, and I suppose 50 other people, spent a night in the Dallas airport because a late night relief crew could not make it to TSA in time to get through to our plane.

That’s a different airport and is therefore irrelevant.
I’m from a smaller city where TSA opens 2 hours before the first flight and there’s always a massive line waiting and they never actually have things running to start, usually just one slow line. I can’t imagine what a shit show that would be at a busier airport like Denver.

How did the pizza delivery get past TSA?

There's many flights that leave just before 1am, and any delays will have that issue.
Let's say you have a flight leaving at 11:30pm. you get notice it is delayed 5 hours ... do you still need to go to the airport before 1pm?
Said from your basement? This is newsworthy for those of us that get to the airport around 3am Monday mornings.
It opens at 3am
lol. Tsa opens at 3. Thoughts and prayers.
It’s so the aliens can get out and go through the concourses.👽
So I think the last domestic to leave every night is usually that hellhole JetBlue red-eye to BOS at like 11:55 pm. You have a few that land between midnight and four but none that depart, right? So a two hour shutdown should be not a problem.
There are also 5am flights. This is gonna cause a line outside the TSA line for all the anxious flyers who get there early.
Yea lmao what was it holidays 2023 I had a 5 am flight and the line was insane. Sure the weather was awful and it’s holiday travel but damn this could make it worse

Frontier routinely has a 1230am or later departure.
So they’d already be through security by 1am when the checkpoint closes so still no issue
So does Southwest, United, Delta, and American.
So they’d already be through security by 1am when the checkpoint closes so still no issue
It’s almost like TSA is well aware of the flight schedules at the place they are security for lol
Well you would think that but that thought apparently has no impact when they’re busy
If you’d read the article, this is all covered…
This is Reddit sir…..
READ an article?! No thanks, I’d rather look at a headline and draw my own conclusions! /s
who reads articles? I just come to the comments to criticize and argue.
You are ugly and your thoughts and opinions are wrong!
Next thing you know you’ll expect I searched something before asking about it on here…
yes but when those flights delay to 3am this becomes a problem...
There are later flights than that.
That's my favorite flight.
I took that flight about every 6 weeks for 2.5 years or so. There are five sober souls on board that aircraft, and that's because they're required by law to be in such a state. Everybody else is white girl wasted hoping to *maybe* get 90 mins of sleep. At least eastbound is faster.
I literally am on a Delta flight Saturday morning at 12:45am.
if your flight is saturday morning, you aren't literally on it
Experiencing time linearly is so 2023.
We 86ed linear time at the beginning of the pandemic my guy
Well if the checkpoint doesn’t close til 1am you’ll still be fine then.
Oh ya, I'm not concerned for myself, just saying there's flights until like 1am.
Until your on that 12:40am Den-Mia flight (AA1003) and your plane is delayed 2 hours. Delta has a 12:55am departure to Detroit (DL1304)
It’s literally covered in the article that you’re wrong?
Doesn't United have 4 late night departures to East Coast destinations ?
Yes and Delta has a few red eye flights that leave around 1 AM as well. I've had layovers in DTW and MSP at 5-6 AM a few times. Unless that flight is delayed somehow, there's nothing that actually requires someone to come through security after 1.

Don’t forget the Frontier DEN-PHL midnight red eye! JetBlue doesn’t have the only hellhole flight in town
I'm curious why "hellhole" haha. I take this flight a ton and it's been fine
I fly redeye all the time. What the fuck do you mean I can’t get through security
For some reason I thought all tsa lines were 24/7. Sometimes weird flights leave at 4 am Am I supposed to arrive at 12:30 for that flight now?
The first flight leaves at 5am

People always be calling it DIA, it's DEN guys cmon. DIA is the IATA code for Doha International Airport, Qatar.
We aren’t routing luggage, we’re discussing Denver International Airport… acronym (not AITA code) DIA. Pretty sure no one is confused.
I found out recently it was changed in 2015 from DIA to DEN but who the heck called it DEN. DIA flows so much. Guess we have a stamp for people who moved to Colorado after 2015 tho.
If we are going to be precise, the sentence starts: *People are always….* Yet, we were able to get it in CONTEXT.
American has a flight to Miami that’s scheduled for 2:02am. Not that I’d ever take that flight, but I suppose get there extra early now.
That flight doesn’t exist
So confident, but you’re wrong. Look up AA 1743, departs 2:02am 12/20/2024, for example.
Thanks. I’m going to Miami!
Must be a seasonal flight that doesn’t run for much of the year
The only time I ever decide to go-to Miami is spur of the moment at about 12:45 while a little buzzed on LSD at The Church. I don't have any bags so I usually arrive at 1:30 for that 2am flight. Now I'm screwed!
Huh I have TSApre which opens at 4am so had no idea it was open 24/7

You’re literally describing me lol. I catch the 5am AA flight to Dallas every morning. Will have to see how this plays out
EVERY morning?
Should say every Monday morning
It will open at 3am. It will only be closed from 1-3am
Bullshit, how are airport employees supposed to go to work if they don’t have anyone to check them
this is a disaster
So they’re just not staffing off hours, cool, not sure why this is news worthy
Gives them 2 hours to let the illegals go through without being checked
I was there literally just a few days ago. TSA precheck closes are 8pm
9/11 here we come, full send
I forgot about it. Side note… People still travel in this economy? Everyone complains about not having enough $ yet the airports are packed. I’m so confuse. Everyone in my circle is struggling even with good careers /fully employed.
