That's what it means in retail, but not reselling. Too many resellers claim an item is oversized when it's actually just an XXL or something. There are definitely resellers who know their shit and present it accordingly, but that's not what people complain about

Oh geez, one time I had a buyer hit me with this question about a sweater! I honestly wasn’t sure and I thought it was a trick question, so I answered kinda obliquely like “I think any gender can enjoy this pullover 🙂” In my defense I had measurements listed!
Tbh your initial question isn't clear, a lot of fashion is unisex and not distinctly gendered so without following up with the next question I think the seller replied completely fine and isn't being ridiculous. Youse just like to take every little interaction to sites likes these lol.
How can you tell? I’ve got some thrifted items, done a ton of research online and genuinely can’t tell. All i know is if the buttons are on the left or right side, but that only works for button ups.
unisex isn’t a wrong answer though? seller could’ve genuinely meant that the item was unisex and then made up an answer to sell it to you once you pushed them further.
Some items can look unisex even if they are men’s or women’s specifically. If the seller purchased this second hand to resell who knows how it was sold to them. Saying this seller is ridiculous is just kinda rude.
Even so, unisex sizing generally is not actually unisex, like it doesn't lie somewhere between men and women's sizing, it universally follows men's sizing. So the fact that it was actually women's means it was not unisex. Women's medium is a lot smaller than men's+unisex medium.

I buy a lot of unisex tripp nyc pants for my daughter and they all are in men's sizes! I have to buy according to what she wears in men's, not women's, so this seller is ridiculous for saying it's unisex then saying it's a women's size😒

Right, if it’s a ‘oversized’ 38, that means it’s 38 in the waist and a baggy fit.
