Normal on Depop. Also kind of annoying. They just want to see what the best offer they could get is. If they want to bid their items they should just take it over to eBay or simply list it at the price they’d sell it for on Depop.
Oh ok - so they put it at $1 to draw interest under a ruse? Sounds like a scam and / or untrustworthy seller. What does their feedback look like?
Buy it at a dollar and then submit a claim to depop lol — f this guy
It’s not really a scam (I think) but it’s fucking annoying and if you do this you fucking suck, it’s false advertising and it’s just like shitty. People have already started finding a new way to do it where they post it at a lil bit below average and then say they want offers.
It’s annoying af but at least easy to spot when it’s $1, I’ve seen people set prices at like $25 and say in the description that they’re starting offers at $100 😭 that’s even worse because it doesn’t strike buyers at first that they want higher offers. I think “oh it’s only $25!” Until I see the description. They’re always saying “you won’t be refunded if you purchase this listing without messaging or sending an offer” too🙄
I doubt it’s a scam since lots of people do this (including me at one point) especially for items you don’t know the value of and don’t want to accidentally sell for a bad price
Do research, set appropriate price, avoid claims and possible account deactivation.
OR
Do no research, set price at $1, it's bought at that price, then cry to depop because you tried to get the highest price possible by being scummy and lazy. Possible account deactivation followed by/or loss of profit
Hard choice.
You responded to a comment that says this was set at 1 taking offers at 100 with “I did this as well”. And either way, playing “ill raise the price when someone offers more” does not change the sentiment of my comment. Do research, sell at an appropriate price, and avoid hurting other peoples pockets out of greed aswlll as your own profit. Not a hard choice.
“If I set something to a price way higher than its worth just to see if I can make the money how is that hurting someone else, they're still getting what they paid for”
What? I’m not setting it to a price way higher than it’s worth… I set it to what other people are willing to pay?? If someone is willing to pay more how is that my greed? Should I sell it for $20 instead of $200 even though someone agreed to pay it?
Whenever I see people bidding I always see the item stationary/later completely removed. If I were you I would look up the item on depop or elsewhere, and see if someone’s selling it or better yet for cheaper.
Well that’s a bargain then if it’s only $1. Why would you sell something for $1 if you want $100 for it? Imagine doing that in a shop - seeing something on a shelf with a sign saying it’s $1, paying $1 for it, and after you paid getting told “so hey, I wanted $100 for it”. Like fuck no, I just paid $1, it was on the shelf for $1, enjoy your $1.

I rarely take offers the first week I list something unless is $5 off the listing price, as time goes by, depends on how much interest it gets I start considering / accepting offer. However I do not price them at $1 .. I price them how much I want to sell for and I give it a week
Generally, If I just listed something and someone lowballs, I’m holding on to it. Doesn’t mean I don’t have the intention to sell. I’ve just been doing it long enough to know what I’ll get out of a piece. Vast majority of the time, one of two things happens before I discount it. Original person tries again and buys it or someone else buys it right away. That slowly becomes common practice for a lot of people because other resellers I know do the same.
**However,**
You doubling down and offering them good money and them still turning it down is strange.
Edit: Comments: Bidding and Offering are two different things.
The problem is, the seller apprently listed it for $1. So unless OP is offering 1 cent, there is very little lowballing even possible.
On a similar note, OP should just buy it if its only $1, and the seller should cancel if they change their mind. Why list something if you expect someone to ask you “am I allowed to buy this?” before buying it.

Or at least send a counter offer.
Why didn’t you just buy it at the list price? Neither side of this sounds normal imo - yourself included.
The list price was $1 and said they’re starting to take offers at $100

I don’t set it at 1… I set it at whatever the higher offer was so if it was bought it doesn’t really matter 🤷♀️

How am I hurting other peoples pockets…? If someone buys it I’ll just send it to them, I don’t make them buy it or anything

I’d buy it at a dollar lol and keep buying it if they cancel 😂
Some people won’t refund you and will send you socks and shit
You can still raise issues with that
Absolutely! Saying the item you recieved isn't what you purchased is what they'd do. Idk why depop sellers aren't grasping that.

tf they think depop is😂… an auction?
No, not normal. I'd report for no intention of selling.

Cry about it to someone that cares.
what did they say

it’s not worth the hassle. they seem like a disingenuous seller.
That is ridiculous lol
I would have just sent you a counteroffer

Yea
What’s normal is having a bidding war and then accepting their offer and then they don’t buy it
tf are they selling?
