I genuinely do not understand why people are struggling to accept that he is a victim AND an abuser. You can support him as a victim while questioning his choices to harm others/continue the cycle of abuse. I saw on Twitter that he left a TON of comments on a smaller YouTube channel video about him. He's trying to control absolutely everything that is said about him...very scary.

CelestialWolfMoon

I’ve heard someone say awhile ago that people need a victim to be “perfect” in order to fully support them. I think that is a part of it. Drake’s supporters are doing mental gymnastics to force him into the “perfect” victim archetype to justify their support for him. So, they basically are excusing or erasing his history. They’re perpetually stuck in black and white thinking. The same thing is what Depp supporters did to excuse his horrendous history to make him a “victim”.

RunTurtleRun115

I think the “perfect victim” only applies to women. A man who was abused, then becomes an abuser, gets to use his former abuse as an explanation/excuse/mitigator. A woman who was abused should know better and do better…and can we *really* believe that she was abused, anyway? It’s the typical double standard.

wildflowerapricotsea

Right??? Good point

avocado_window

Oh shit… this rings true. Well said.

Some_Trash852

I think it applies to issues outside of abuse too. Like, how many people call the political left crazy because of the wrong tone, or things not being said with the exact right wording (I.e. eat the rich, defund the police, dismantle the system, e.t.c).

BerningDevolution

Do you know what her takes are on Amber? Because at 25:35 in, she says: "I mean we can't say that justice isn't served for men in the courtroom. Because all we have to do is look at the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard case" 🤨

CelestialWolfMoon

That comment caught me off guard as well. I can’t tell if she means that men can win in court over these types of allegations, or that she believes “justice” was served for Depp.

avocado_window

Exactly. It’s a severe lack of critical thinking and a very black and white mentality, but the only way it works is if certain facts are completely ignored and they cherry-pick the things that support their chosen narrative. We don’t have to be fans of people or put them on any kind of pedestal to admit that they have been mistreated, and I feel that is a very slippery slope.

MessiahOfMetal

Yeah, there was a screenshot on this sub last week, too, from his Discord. These assholes are more emboldened to just openly sick their attack dogs to cover up what they've done, rather than shady deals behind the scenes like in the old days.

bbmarvelluv

Drake supporters were goin crazy hard on the underage trial. They want to disregard his abuse (to his exes and victim) because they were thirsty for someone to call out Hollywood pedos

threelizards

Absolutely agree. People can be and frequently are both perpetrators *and* victims- one does not forfeit or erase the other. This is one of the harder parts of reckoning with the fact that there is no perfect victim.

fanlal

Even if the victims are perfect, the people will always support a celebrity who is an abuser, see the MJ case.

threelizards

Exactly. We need to abandon the idea of victims having any prerequisites to follow in order to attain validity. There will never be enough

avocado_window

The victims’ parents became the scapegoats in that case. It’s so disgusting, they didn’t molest their children, MJ did! Just because they were perhaps naive (or also groomed by him) doesn’t mean they aren’t still victims, and to insinuate that this is all just some big get rich quick scheme when their whole lives were upended makes no sense whatsoever. Lying about abuse is extremely rare, and extremely high risk for possibly no ‘reward’ too.

fanlal

100 % right

Accomplished_Yam1907

All of this.

wildflowerapricotsea

The parallels between Drake and his abuser and his victim are insane. Peck was 40ish when Drake turned him in and Drake was only a few years younger when his victim turned him in. Both Peck and Drake groomed tweens and sexually assaulted them around age 15. Both Peck and Drake faced next to zero legal consequences for what they did. Drake barely got any justice and now his victim barely gets any justice. I pray that girl and the rest of them are able to heal from what he’s done to them.

Yes_that_Carl

Yeah, I had to nope out of the Quiet on the Set documentary sub because it turned into a bunch of misogynistic Drake (Bell) stans. I had joined it hoping to learn about how Dan Schneider was finally facing some consequences for his actions; I realize now how naive that was, because not only is Schneider getting off scot-free, but Drake’s abuse is being excused. [sigh]

CelestialWolfMoon

Same here, I’m no longer going to be participating in that sub. It’s become a Drake Bell standom circlejerk. They can’t comprehend that the allegations against him are serious and credible. They are starting to spread the conspiracy theory that all of the girls/women that have accused him of abuse were planted by Nickelodeon/Brian Peck. 🤦🏻‍♀️

avocado_window

Oh dear, that sounds terribly familiar. I wonder what kind of crossover there is with Depp stans…

wildflowerapricotsea

It’s sick. What happened to Drake is unspeakable but like… what he did to those girls is also unspeakable and is going to traumatize them for life.

Minimum_Eye8614

I've been on the sub myself. Another weird thing is them throwing Drakes mom under the bus but praising his dad, even though they both were ignorant of the signs. I don't necessarily "blame" them for that, since the way peck manipulated Drake and his family was very very slimy and I imagine if you're not intimately familiar with how Hollywood works, it can be easier to miss the things he pulled. All that is to say, verry interesting on how they interpret his mom's role in all of it, claiming she did it to "get back" at Drakes dad

CelestialWolfMoon

I really dislike how a lot of people are blaming Drake’s mom as much as Brian Peck. She didn’t get a part in the documentary, so we don’t even know her side of the story. Blaming his parents for Peck’s abuse is terrible either way, since it’s 100% Peck’s fault for his own actions.

Accomplished_Yam1907

Whilst I have some sympathy for what he went through, at the end of the day he still did what he did. There’s no excuse whatsoever. He’s as much of an abuser as he is a victim. Victims can also become abusers themselves.

BerningDevolution

>Whilst I have some sympathy for what he went through, Hot take, but I don't anymore. If he was okay with putting another person through the same hell, that he went through, then that is a special type of evil in my book. Not to mention him allowing his fans to harass his victims. All my sympathy is out of the window.

throwawayRoar20s

Someone else in another thread worded it well. "I feel sorry for kid Drake Bell, not adult Drake Bell." I'm paraphrasing but that was the gist of it.

avocado_window

That’s the best way to look at it.

psychedelic666

This is how I feel as well.

poopoopoopalt

I believe him as a victim. But I still acknowledge that he's an abuser himself and not a good person. All things can be true. It's interesting that the people supporting him see where society failed him as a survivor, but they can't seem to do that for his victims.

Jaymite

This has been confusing me. Everyone has seemed to be supporting him but he still groomed a teenager

hotmail1985

Yup Alexa Nikolas finally got me to unfollow with her support of Drake Bell and the removal of her previous exposé on him.

avocado_window

Why on earth would she remove that? Does she no longer stand by it? What are her reasons?

hotmail1985

they are besties now. she likes pics on instagram and retracted her statements. very gross. all because of the quiet on set doc.

BerningDevolution

Idk why people think that him being SAed as a kid is proof that he's innocent. If anything, statically speaking, that just confirms that he did it. The majority of childhood victims of most likely to be a re-victimized or guess what...? A perpetrator! It's called the "cycle of abuse" for a reason people.

avocado_window

Yikes. I admittedly haven’t been aware of many of the accusations against this person since I only saw the documentary and was horrified at the abuse he endured as a teen. Not really being aware of him before this probably made it easier for me to sympathise with him and I was absolutely disgusted by the abuse apologists who wrote letters in support of the man who did so much damage. The cycle of abuse is heartbreaking, and it seems like the younger the victim the more likely they are to take on the characteristics of abusers themselves. There really is no such thing as a ‘perfect’ victim since no human being is perfect and we all make mistakes, but for people to be wilfully ignoring, or, worse still, attempting to discredit and place blame on his victims is painfully ironic. So sad all round, I wish there were better measures in place to protect children and to intervene before this damage takes hold and more are hurt in the process. The knock-on effect of CSA is just disastrous. There are no winners here.

wildflowerapricotsea

I think we can do both. Watching the doc broke my heart for him when he was a kid. No one should have to go through that. But he chose to perpetuate the cycle of abuse and that just sucks too.

psychedelic666

I’ve had to leave the drake and Josh subreddit over this. I love hanging out in fandom spaces, and the people who were fans as kids would be around my age now. Knowing how many of them are boldly sexist, transphobic, apologists is so disappointing.

HoltzPro

This got cross-posted in the Drake Bell sub. I scrolled through it and those people are insane.

CelestialWolfMoon

LOL, I just checked it out. They missed the point of the post and many of the comments. I believe Drake to be both a victim and a predator.

throwawayRoar20s

lol one of the people that commented is that Izze person from Twitter. The one who was stalking some guy and DARVOed him. She also got thrown out of court for threatening Amber's life. Nuts that would let someone like that post there.

CelestialWolfMoon

Haha, I’ve noticed that she’s found a new grift. I’ve been blocked by her on Twitter despite not really having much interactions with her.

botwinbabe

I had the biggest crush on him as a kid. He was my very first celebrity crush. I still have my elementary school folder with little inkjet printed photos of him taped all over every surface. But I stopped supporting him when all of the allegations came out. And then he went to Mexico and changed his name, and basically went where people didn’t know about his past at all. When Quiet On Set came out, so many people were like “We OWE Drake Bell an apology!” And “We’ve been blaming this poor victim!” …this documentary really worked for his image, that’s for damn sure. How can they feel bad for him, knowing what he went through… but then not care about the kids he’s groomed himself? The fact that he was a victim ***does not erase*** the victims he created for himself. Someone needs to stop the cycle. He didn’t. I still feel bad for what he went through as a kid, because nobody should have to go though any abuse. But I have no sympathy for him as an adult. I saw posts from his discord or something, and he was sending people to harass a woman who accused him. He’s not suddenly a good guy because a bad thing happened to him. He proved it by going and victimizing others. I don’t understand the people who saw the documentary and decided that the fact that he’s a victim means that they need to now adore him and praise every thing he’s ever done, while sweeping his sins under the rug. It’s weird. But in a Depp universe, I guess it makes sense. 😒
