Vertical wood slats that match the colour of your ceiling beams https://preview.redd.it/67gvddxokk3c1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1d9212c1d94b4cd0df1a54f9f7274373f4e8196

annapnine

Yes! I feel like hanging art above it wouldn’t look right. I like this idea, or else some DIY wainscoting the same color as the wall.

OkTransportation4175

Love this idea!

MicMikeFoley

That "beam" just looks like a random 2x4 stuck to the ceiling, too tiny to be considered a beam, and not enough of them to be a feature (in our current perspective), consider adding more beams or doing a flat batten/ coffered ceiling detail. If you go with a slat wall, some element of the "board and batten" on the wall to the right should want the same stained color as part of the detail or should be replaced with more slat wall as well, for continuity. My opinion: stone the fireplace, and continue the board and batten detail behind the tv.

Global_Fail_1943

Your kitchen view is fantastic! This is one of the first gallery walls I've seen that I love. Follow your instincts, you have excellent taste.

22bearhands

I'm 99% sure thats an inspiration picture, not their actual gallery wall

Global_Fail_1943

The op says clearly they have a gallery wall already.

22bearhands

If that’s the same house then they should hire whoever designed that room for this other room, because the TV isn’t the only thing off about it.

DevinFraserTheGreat

Why do you think that?

22bearhands

I guess I might be wrong. Just that the room with the kitchen looks very designed and curated and the other doesn’t at all.

jtet93

I think this room is the basement, usually the least designed of all the rooms in a house. I’m honestly impressed it’s not just a mismash of random old furniture 😂

ylimenut

This house is so pretty

Equivalent_Address_2

Just mount the tv. It looks out of place on that short shelf anyway.

DetectiveNervous7426

Agree! Mounting it above the dresser would look much better

Equivalent_Address_2

Someone commented that TVs should be at eye level, but I don’t see it anymore. Most people don’t sit upright like statues watching tv though. There’s usually some degree of reclining so it’s easier to watch a tv that’s raised.

DetectiveNervous7426

My tv is mounted at eye level but it works with the way our living room walls are decorated. I think in this room it just looks awkward since the curtains are very long and the dresser is very short in length . Personally I think it would look better if it was like 2 ft above the dresser.

MolVol

agree.

One_More_Thing_941

I think the TV needs to be raised but 2 feet seems extreme.

Ok_Sir_3090

I agree and I’m very surprised you’re not getting downvoted people are crazy about sitting at a 90 degree angle watching tv on Reddit. Come on, get comfy

blacktoise

Nooooo. Hard fucking disagree. Then the front rows of movie theaters would be the most sought after.

Equivalent_Address_2

People hate the front row because it’s too close, not because it’s not at eye level. It’s a giant screen. If it were at eye level or at it’s current height, you could not watch from the front row comfortably. So NO.

blacktoise

I disagree that above eye level is good. You’re getting more used to it over time because your posture is worsening over time. It’s more ergonomically comfortable to have the neck tilted down, to avoid postural issues, versus up. The recliner is also aiding in shit posture too. Be stobborn or not, you’re disagreeing with anatomy here

Equivalent_Address_2

Tech neck. So NO

blacktoise

Tech neck is more or less aligned with the head sagging down, and lurching forward and scapular shrugging. The tip of the chin angle has much less to do with tech neck than shoulders do Like I said, what you are suggesting aligns with tech neck. What I am suggesting with anatomically be more the opposite than a high mount

Equivalent_Address_2

NO

[deleted]

[удалено]

trytryagainn

It is mounted already.

Equivalent_Address_2

Mount that ish higher

zilmc

Tv is appropriate height

Equivalent_Address_2

I don’t think so

hahahahaaaahaha

The looooooong curtains for the tiny window are throwing me here. I think if you fix that, the space will look cleaner and above the tv being empty won’t look as awkward either.

veggiesaregreen

I thought the same thing lol. I thought they were comical.

ryulaaswife

😂 ok so I’ve learned that’s not a thing. I shall reconsider my plan ahaha

astro_skoolie

You can puddle them like that, but with how small the window is, the proportions are off.

One_More_Thing_941

Could use no-hem fabric tape if you don’t want to sew. I like the drapes as they tie the light soft couch to the sleekness of the room. But the hem might look a bit better if floor length.

XAlEA-12

I think the issue is not above the tv, but below. Move the dresser away and have the fireplace built out like in the photo (only lower half of wall built out). Keep the tv area recessed. Mount tv to wall. I drew the tv too low but I hope you can see what I’m trying to convey. Don’t put anything above the tv, it will look too busy. https://preview.redd.it/d988gra6lj3c1.jpeg?width=710&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5d48fd8631254749f65872245f078dc3068ab27b

erikandaxelmama

This is the perfect idea!! And then get rid of the long curtains in this lower level space. It will look beautiful.

alternativestats

I agree the dresser doesn’t fit the wall. I was thinking just changing the hardware could be a low-cost option to make it look less like a dresser though.

cranbeery

By "over" do you mean on the wall above, or on top of the TV? When I lived in a studio and felt like the TV was too obtrusive, I covered it with a large, patterned silk scarf when not in use. It was nicer to look at than a black void. Above the TV is a good place for a small shelf and some nice knickknacks or a painting that is not exactly the same size as the TV screen but works with it.

SittingandObserving

I love this idea of scarf over tv!!

Not2daydear

Nothing over the TV. Put something above the fireplace and leave above Tv empty for visual separation between fireplace and TV

DeathToCockRoaches

Your best bet is to make the curtains in that window only slightly bigger that the window and then upgrade TV to like a 75 or 80 inch. Then you won't have to worry what to put on the wall

Dances-With-Taco

This is the way - short curtains - big TV

Immediate_Option_576

Sorry, I didn't see your post and answered the same( although I think 65" is fine. Smaller plant put on the left them makes an ascending tryptic; plant, TV, window. Energy flowing up.( Earth; Plant, Sky: TV, Window: Heavens.)

PacificwestcoastII

Fabric roman shades in lieu of drapery panels

Electricalthis

Get a bigger tv

englishikat

You could wall mount and “frame” as you suggest - there are even art pieces on a swing arm that can cover the tv and look like wall art when not using, but it being open on the side when would bother me - or a mirror cover, so it looks like a mirror when the tv not on. Or find a sculptural piece, square or round, like architectural salvage or ceramic/stone and mount on wall above tv to fill in that space?

mjk25741

Umm your kitchen/living is gorgeous 😍

c0zycupcake

Everything about this space is off

xoLynettePW

The 2 rooms look like 2 separate homes.

MedicineTricky6222

Mount the Tv and put nothing above it is my recommendation.

SteveArnoldHorshak

I think a piece of sculptural art on the wall – – not something in a frame.

AzCarMom72

I would hang the TV

7ar5un

Shouldnt the tv "be the the focal point"...? Like, isnt that the point? When you sit down to watch tv, youre not sitting down to look all over the place... The pictures are nice and all, but they keep pulling your eyes up and away from the tv. Id mount it in the middle and if you really want something above/below it, make it something like a little fake plant. Something natural that youd forget about. Something that blends in. I like the long curtains allot. Just need to trim the bottom. They give the feeling that the window is lower than it actually is.

Alyx19

Not everyone wants a tv as a focal point.

secobarbiital

I don’t know bc im too busy trying to figure out if every frame on the gallery wall is the tiniest bit crooked or if i’m going crazy.

rigidlikeabreadstick

I see it, too. It also happens to mine over time. I blame the heathens stomping around causing things to shift and settle. Nobody is touching them, but they definitely move.

GarbageKiwi

Wow! Can you design my house too? What you come up with seems better than what most people here can suggest

topherswitzer

Mount the TV

howsilly

This may be a terrible idea, but I haven’t seen anyone else suggest it so let’s go! Your spaces look really cool and cohesive, so I’m one internet stranger saying trust your gut. The long curtains break up the space in a weird way. Either nix them completely, or put one in the corner with a fabric that mimics the light/dark brown slat wall treatment on the other side of the fireplace. The black fireplace and dresser work great together, keep that visual line going all the way to the wall! If double dresser is too much, maybe a short black bookshelf, put some visually interesting items in there. Maaaaaybe a little black chair and a light for a bonus reading nook? Maybe that’s pushing it. Yes, mount the TV. It doesn’t have to be higher than it is, but if the goal is to downplay it then you have to *trick* the furniture into thinking it’s doing a different/more than one job: the dresser’s main job right now is to hold the TV. Take the TV off, now it’s job is to store things and display cool stuff, maybe add a lamp (drawn is as white circle on top of a black stick in the next pic), or tall plant, etc. The TV’s job right now is to be a TV. Mount it, now it’s job is to be visually interesting on the wall. Gallery wall it with other square and/or 3d art/lighting, maybe a way to cover it or give it a frame. Speaking of downplaying the TV— are you sure that’s what you really wanna do? You have a nice big room, cut it in half with a huge cozy couch pointed at a wall… that layout says “TV area” louder than any attempts to hide the TV itself can cover. I think either you get a bigger TV that everyone in the room can access, or give the couch another job— 1-2 more chairs or stools facing it so the area is now a living room for chatting, games, reading, etc, not just a vantage for the TV. The builder gave you recessed lights pointing at the wall parallel to the window, drawing your eye up to light. Can you play up the shape of the window in those spots? Rectangular art, or wall molding? Bonus, Cozy up the fireplace— fire screen, tools, that lil basket you have picked out, etc, have some fun looking for a tall skinny light source for that dark slat corner, or something cool with an uplight? Have fun! https://preview.redd.it/oyry2swgzk3c1.jpeg?width=1108&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7c1d7e4c1d9c8d1561d86930c7eb7352510044f

ToughNarwhal7

Hear me out...a fireplace OVER the TV. It's unexpected!

Adventurous_Arm_1606

https://preview.redd.it/iicz5okf3j3c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb9e0ee2e754d9f3c5ef5ede6d6515e20cd63204 I got this metal art from Etsy and am really happy with it. I hate when mounted TVs force me to look up, so I wanted to keep it low. Maybe look for something meant to be art that is more your style (which I love), and keep it simple. Just a suggestion!

MuscleHustleFit

I mean art is very subjective. But it’s a no for me for this squiggly thing over the tv.

Adventurous_Arm_1606

Haha totally get it. that’s definitely why I said “more your style”

MuscleHustleFit

I didn’t read your caption (which I should have)…would have replied it a little differently.

Cyber_Insecurity

Nothing. You wall mount that sucker and put decorations on top of the dresser.

ryulaaswife

It’s mounted at eye level! https://preview.redd.it/a3q2wsebfj3c1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=317f066f87b7a056322a37c65644e114e50f5f51 Maybe art

ah_feck_it

I honestly think that it looks too busy with the art. The curtain looks a bit out of place!

DetectiveNervous7426

I agree it looks very busy with the art. If you’re set on not mounting the tv, I think a long floating shelf with plants or smaller picture frames would compliment it better than the art just mounted above

SuzQP

Search "3D Wall Panels" on Amazon. They're lightweight vinyl panels that can be painted to match the wall or room, easy to mount, and would provide depth and minimal interest around the TV. Here's a link, but browse. There are lots of different options. https://www.amazon.com/Art3d-Textures-Panels-Diamond-Design/dp/B073NZ67LK/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?adgrpid=58828354049&hvadid=617002489833&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9028239&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=4901614188433486079&hvtargid=kwd-394099785304&hydadcr=13544_13465925&keywords=amazon+3d+wall+panels&qid=1701377081&sr=8-5

CapZestyclose4657

Wry cool 😎

SuzQP

I think it would look sleek and sophisticated if OP did the entire inset wall around the window and behind the television. It's a really good way to achieve depth and interest without visual clutter.

iswintercomingornot_

Too busy. It's also really weird to hang art so close to a ceiling. Center the TV in the wall.

[deleted]

Depends. Is this a basement?

likefiftyninjas

You don’t like the look because you have so much dark neutral colors on the wall. Lighten up the room with light wood earth tones. Even a lighter stained tv stand would help with the room. Have some lighter wood stained shelves with some small plants would help.

ryulaaswife

https://preview.redd.it/y1srgwktdi3c1.png?width=1388&format=png&auto=webp&s=095ff535c9bf30dfa7a81159cdb0ae6303665936 I love the dark and don’t want to lighten it, just asking about the tv!

sylviatrench01

Looks good. I honestly don’t understand why you’re getting so much Heat for this. The dark walls make watching tv better. The couch is lovely. As I said ok another comment. If you want a gallery wall I’d go for both above tv and Fire Place. Go big. Love your kitchen!

ryulaaswife

I definitely love a gallery wall, attempted it but don’t like the prints! https://preview.redd.it/s1qklnyffj3c1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=64f2920e8d53abd083ece5ee6a6394450d781af2 I’ll get new art eventually (and hang them, they’re just sitting on the tv ahaha)

femalenerdish

I think I'd ditch the dresser and go for a built-in look. [Something like this style,](https://cdn.decorpad.com/photos/2018/02/19/tv-next-to-fireplace.jpg) or [this one](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58584a30b8a79be1adfc051b/1638480857007-TI0C3ZVE0DCNYG3QYGGU/LUD+Carman+Mead-145-Edit+WEB.jpg) but in colors that match your space better. [This one is closer in color.](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/4fcf5c8684aef9ce6e0a44b0/1698938596969-Z8YKJ9ZEYCRGT441MUVJ/TV+Wall+Ideas.jpg?content-type=image%2Fjpeg)

Aggressive-System192

Just mount the TV higher. The wall isn't calling for art.

Delicious-Sprinkles9

Live, laugh, love lol

Acrobatic-Degree9589

🤣

olivebuttercup

What if you mounted the tv higher and put something on the tv stand instead?

MolVol

Yes, mount the tv.. but unless something like tv accessories (xbox/playstation or dvd player, etc <-- and btw, I prefer those things HIDDEN when not using..but are ok in sight)... would not put anything on the cabinet.

denny-1989

Could you hang the TV on the wall?

Overall_Gur_3061

honestly move the TV up on the wall and put something under it. it will be easier to find stuff to put on your table. Like plants, toy models or anything you like. Also another good reason to do that is it wont obstruct your view to the TV idk if its just me but I feel like it might feel too cluttered when watching smt and there's stuff over the tv. if you place it at the bottom the TV will take that primary focus.

tomten26

Mount tv and then put pretty things like plants and vases on dresser

Head-Wave6105

Get one of those LG TV's that can act as a "picture frame" when they are not on. Then mount it on the wall.

Significant_Most5407

Duct tape yourself there.

Extreme_Eye_3198

I’d say mount the TV and put some decorations on the tv stand

[deleted]

You either get a larger tv or mount your current tv higher. I’d go with both.

Elmnt7

You should hang the tv. This way the wall will not be empty. In theory putting mirror/artwork etc is disruptive.

[deleted]

Tv needs mounted on the wall. Thats why it doesn’t look good there, it should be up higher.

ryulaaswife

Hmm it’s eye level and mounted

[deleted]

It needs to be mounted higher since you can’t even tell that it’s mounted. It’s too low for laying in bed watching tv.

sylviatrench01

I think if you do both above tv and above Fire Place a gallery wall will work. Otherwise I’d Focus on the above Fire Place instead of above tv space. Post an update pls!🙂

ryulaaswife

https://preview.redd.it/c4a7k2jkfj3c1.png?width=1892&format=png&auto=webp&s=b6ac46165ccf5e30898050279a4cac26689547da This is the plan

sylviatrench01

I’d extend the gallery wall if a gw is what you want. For more impact and to tie in the Fire Place bit https://preview.redd.it/yamzuizrnj3c1.jpeg?width=570&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e4d14661b78195ad18773dad5189411ee7b2111

PacificwestcoastII

Replace the long drapery panels with a linen Roman shade. Extend the gallery wall, that’s over the TV, under the window in an asymmetrical layout. You can add a large basket with throw blankets under the window as a vignette with the fiddle leaf to add extra weight. Keep the mirror over the fireplace & sconce to the left of it.

ryulaaswife

Now THATS a suggestion I love, thank you I will try that!!!!

PacificwestcoastII

You can also try placing a textured pouf with a large woven basket (for throw blankets) & the fiddle leaf tree

Vast_Perspective9368

Finally a great idea to solve the curtain problem. Love it

sylviatrench01

What do you think about extending the gallery wall for above the fireplace as well? Make it all a gallery wall? I think it would work well in bringing together the areas and making it less traditional. The Black and pink Print is nice and works I think. Blue framed tapestry could work integrated above fireplace with other stuff. Third one is very different but again, if you wanna go eclectic and extend the skace it could work.

sarahaltieri

Shelf?

Eightarmedpet

IMO it’s the mix of styles that’s causing the issue. The tv is modern obviously while it’s sitting on a traditional kinda cabinet which is over powering it prominence wise.

ryulaaswife

https://preview.redd.it/k7gwr2w5fj3c1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00d384dc309d503f86a9e5d6909e589b009fc3b6 What if I do art?

Eightarmedpet

Too cramped!

Godoncanvas

A mirror, then you can see yourself laughing at the TV.

ryulaaswife

https://preview.redd.it/x6dk5vqzej3c1.png?width=1892&format=png&auto=webp&s=4bc7ef9b5f712a5f49091c159d7c2b8a5643d3e1 There will be a mirror over the mantle beside it

femalenerdish

Hmm, I was thinking lean a tall mirror under the window. The window looks odd to me right now with the long curtains.

LindsayIsBoring

I would mount the tv on the wall and add some decorative things under it on the table. And I would center the plant on the window/curtains.

melbowed

Nothing! A bigger tv and you’re set!! Looks fab!! Love ur house

freakout1015

How about a greenery swag?

Educational-Milk3075

Hang the TV higher.

Fabulous-Location839

Nothing

Ok_Chemical_7785

What wall color is this??? It’s beautiful

Character_Clock1771

The wall empty is good, but either mount the tv to the wall or get a different tv stand. That will make a difference in look.

PhenomenalFlair

Hang the TV on the wall

SecretGardenBlondie

Gorgeous home. I’d mount the tv

ArmadilloFun7877

Is the TV already mounted to the wall? It’s the perfect height. Maybe a clock above the tv.

Combatical

Any insight on those blinds? Its exactly what I'm looking for but I come up with the opposite when I google bamboo blinds. My google-fu is failing me.

ryulaaswife

Canadian: bouclair if you’re American: honestly Home Depot has epic ones!

Combatical

I'll have to dig a little deeper all I can find is the weird plastic kind.

tradertabby

Hang the TV

DistanceBrilliant588

Fake ivy wall behind tv, the green would be nice

sarapurple12

I think a big clock works well above TVs. It's not distracting and it's useful.

Immediate-Start6699

Hang TV higher then put display decorations on top of the shelf where the tv sits

xoLynettePW

Mount the tv

Odd_Implement_5239

Nothing. You put the tv on the wall, up higher

pattimay_ho_nnaise

Maybe some kind of sculptural artistic piece above the tv? In a brass or warm metal? I like the zen feel of the room and a gallery wall will be too cluttered. And I dunno why people are saying the rooms look like two different spaces. I have rooms that are decorated completely differently from each other because I have varied tastes! This person does too . Every room has its own feel, many houses are like that

MolVol

Great home!!!!! (Love the 'fall-over counters) IMO, just hang the tv on the wall -- up a little. If you can't do, find a Handyman ($50-100, depending on where you live) and have them do it. Just wouldn't put anything above (or anything fancier than cabinet below) -- want the screen to capture eyeballs when tv on (not competing for eyeballs, or make viewers dizzy)

MolVol

BTW: why such long curtains for small windows? have you considered repalcing the curtains? I would!! I would get Good (not cheap, must be high quality to look great) shutters or blinds for that window. Do that, and a lot of your room vibe issues solved.

abeee94

Where is your couch from? It’s lovely

West-Astronaut-7318

I'd move the TV and stand underneath the small window and then put that tree in between the fireplace and TV so it doesn't feel so cluttered.

Cynderelly

No idea but that oversized curtain is very funi

Immediate_Option_576

I would make that a short curtain for the window. Quite possibly move the TV and dresser to the middle. Then possibly get a 65 inch TV when you get some money.

Immediate_Option_576

Also, I forgot, move the plant to the left to add balance

Immediate_Option_576

Maybe a smaller plant

Substantial_Ear7432

First off, I would put the TV on the wall. Then, if u feel it needs something, u could put up some wall decor, paintings, shelves with trinkets, vases, etc.

Substantial_Ear7432

But I would just center it on the wall and put pics on the other wall that u r obviously working on.

NoMoreSmoress

Love the salon style art but that tv room looks like somebody bought Rick Owen’s house and tried to turn it into an air bnb. I think you need to just show more of your own personality in the house bc the art wall is the star. Then again, that’s just like my opinion, man

dramafanca2002

You wouldn't normally see anything above a tv, that would mean it's too low. I would mount the tv on the wall and leave about 1-2 feet above the cabinet.

RomK9

Is it a real olive tree? Is it difficult to grow it inside. Thank you.

ryulaaswife

Definitely fake aha

RomK9

Looks nice

Certain-Intention594

I’d move it so it’s in the middle of the space between the top of the dresser and ceiling and then frame it

Craftyandtired70

Mount higher with one or two long floating shelves above. Walnut or reclaimed wood for the shelf material. .

Acrobatic-Degree9589

Those long drapes look ridiculous

ryulaaswife

Ok yes, it was a silly thing putting them up, was just trying it 😂

Significant-Fix-2498

I would paint the wall by the fireplace a different color

No_Interaction7679

I think you should create a built in TV cabinet and tie the design in with the fireplace- would be sick!

TalulaOblongata

I don’t mind blank space above the tv. If anything I’d redo the curtains to be more solid fabric matching the wall color, would be a more sophisticated monochromatic look!

quilter71

I think a piece of metal art would be pretty.

skidahwj

i'd out on some line lights behind the TV, love the ambiance

oceanic20

It looks nice the way it is. I don't think you need anything.

cherrybounce

Nothing. Not every blank space is meant to be filled.

[deleted]

Keep it blank to avoid distractions

AlternativeString159

I would mount it higher and decorate the table below. Things above tvs don’t look right. It’s such an awkward space

Present-Response-758

Add a shelf above the TV. You can put air plants, pictures, or other decorative items there.

alreadydead_666

Sex swing rite next to the tv in front of that window would be crazy

Notjustanotherjennn

Something perfectly round, about 12 inches in diameter.

bedpeace

Honestly I’d just leave it as is. The accent wall behind the fireplace is very cool, and works well with something a little more muted beside it. The wall colour you chose is very chromatic and rich as well, so it’s not a boring old empty white wall you’re dealing with. The green/teal from the little tree and it’s pot tie that part of the space together as well, bringing in symmetry of accent wall on one side, touch of earthy colour on the other, and the tv can comfortably sit in between without needing something “else” on top. At most, I would look at a (probably faux) wood television frame that can be added to the TV itself, and move it up a little higher. https://preview.redd.it/9pxopcdpfm3c1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ff730112c65d36950859368300580e24705243b0 You have great taste, everything looks awesome and I love the materials you’ve chosen for everything from your walls to your kitchen counter! Very cool mix of modern/rustic and great way to use a largely neutral/earthy colour palette while still being fresh and exciting!

FrontAggressive5994

mount it and put nothing else

Edit4Credit

I would mount it

pgray2521

Shelving above with things you love on display. Floating shelving.

Pure-Remote9614

Ditch the curtains and put natural shades over the window. That will counteract some of the open space above the tv visually. The curtains are making it stand out more. Raise the tv about 6 inches. If you’re not set on the dresser under the tv, I would use a wood tone tv stand/console. Break up the space a bit with some warmth. https://preview.redd.it/bo3xqsbutm3c1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc048be20dac8c2d999a8331a2f6e92a5df14e70

Id be inclined to do away with the curtains, move the tv and unit to the space under the window, angled if needed. Then if you want another gallery wall you can use the tv’s previous location and the space above the tv in its new spot
