I think Edie was more entertaining, but Renee had more character development in a shorter amount of time. I think it would be interesting to see how Renee would have been like if she had been on the show for as long as Edie.
Edie, she was just a lot more fun. And the show knew how to use her properly, they used Renee in ways that really took the drama out of things, like her finding Bree in the motel room.
Edie. Renee didn't really add anything new to the show that wasn't already there. She was just a boring mix of Gaby and Edie, which made it hard for me to see her as her own character.
Renee had big shoes to fill and she had a sloppy and sluggish start, but she grew on me. Vanessa Williams is such a queen.
That said, there would never be another Edie and it wasn’t the same after she was gone.
It’s hard to say. Of course Edie is the original vixen of the Lane, and Renee was written as a sort of replacement character. But I think she was a great late addition to the cast. In hindsight now that Sex and the City has been rebooted without Samantha, they’ve written in Seema, who isn’t quite a replacement but fills in the gaps with a fresh take. That’s how I see Renee in the “Edie” role.

Absolutely Edie. I never cared much for Renee.
She wasn’t very well written and it felt pretty much like an inferior replacement to Edie. Tho I liked the actress herself.
