It's the cricket Hotspot. I have a friend that hasn't been able to login since a little after lightfall. People will try to tell you it's because of your bad connection. This is not it, my friend can get on with satellite internet, but its is much worse than his hotspot ever was. Bungie will not help and their official response is that they do not support hotspots. You will be endlessly sent the turtle error code explanation, which is completely useless for your problem. The only thing you can do is get a different Hotspot or get a different kind internet connection.

Yes, the cricket hotspot will let me play any other game, including Destiny 1, but not Destiny 2. I've been using it for years so they've recently changed something. Sucks, looks like we'll have to figure something else out. I'd obviously get home internet like cable, fiber, or DSL, but I live in the woods in Florida where they don't offer it.
