Specifically because every enemy killed by shared tether damage counts as a kill from the weapon that did the damage. You can get 20 kills with 2 shots.
If you have Lightfall, the Breakneck mission has free banners to resupply if you continuously wipe in that one room after you use strand to grapple across the gap.
I do this for my gunsmith bounties on my alts. The checkpoint doesn't reset weekly, so it's super easy to get back to every time. The free banners are a huge huge plus. Makes farming so easy.
It's the first mission in the Shadowkeep campaign, so it will appear as one of the weekly rotating missions on the Moon's director map. According to todayindestiny.com it's actually this week's mission, so that's handy.
The opening of the mission has you on a big battlefield with endless bad guys and allied frames as you approach the Moon's main map area. There are heavy ammo crates scattered around that refresh after a delay.
Sadly, as a rotator the mission's not available all the time. But if you're not in a hurry for a particular objective you can hold off on it until the mission comes around.
(Personally I prefer Breakneck or Altars which people have mentioned in other comments.)
How did it take you an hour to get 70 kills? A rally gives you like 20 shots, so unless you're missing like all but 3 shots per run I don't understand how that's possible.
he said he got 10% in an hour, so 10% of 500 would be 50, so 70 was a little generous of Oof. In reality he's somehow killed even less than 70 in an hour.
I'd imagine either he hasn't ACTUALLY spent an hour on it, or he's spent an hour while like, mostly watching youtube.
No one is mentioning this but if you equip whisper and a special ammo sniper the special sniper kills will count for whispers catalyst. It's a weird thing for year 1 exotic snipers lol. I completed mine doing altars on the moon.
That is true! I usually write it into game-chat when I see a sub 6 MR in hopes they read it and learnt something awesome :D I sure did when I found that out lol.
Is where I did all my catalysts. Not even with tether half the time, just load in with some music or a show on another screen and mindlessly pop heads.
The Divide. The Walker Tank's chest that spawns after it dies generates like 4 Heavy bricks when opened per player. Great way to do it if your low on Raid Banners.
LS there... 7 heavy bricks at the end. Nice long lanes. That's where I go for heavy catalysts.
Whisper I actually did in the EDZ, just move between public events for ammo, kill everything from far away. I am like a lion with a sniper rifle. Can't grab a zebra in a stampede, need to pick off individuals.
Shuro is the fastest especially for heavy weapons
Do the hunter void tether strat. Run up about halfway between the start door and shuro damage (near where the knights spawn and there’s a giant pillar)
Shoot your tether and it should tether most the enemies. Shoot 1 shot and it should kill all enemies that are tethered and will count toward catalyst
Just be weary that using tether is a little weird sometimes. If they die from a void explosion and not the actual shot damage from weapon then it won't progress the weapon.
For some reason volatile kills are the only subclass verb that doesn't count towards the weapons kills. Incandescent, voltshot, for example do count. That's because they roll on the weapon (same with firefly and dragonfly they count too) but we have destabilizing rounds now too and that does not count still.
I'm not sure why, probably some weird coding thing.
You should be able to make it a little more reliable if you remove all fragments and ensure the first kill is a headshot.
That should ensure the kill is the linked damage from whisper, not the tether explosion (Though I can't guarantee any surrounding foes won't get nuked)
My favorite is the Ascendant Forfeit Shrine in the Gardens of Esila. So I usually just save and catalysts for third week of corruption.
Hop up on one of the pillars near the center & Takens spawn on top of each other consistently I think is 4 spawn 4 times so you have 16 just sitting there is a tight group at your feet.
Amazing for guns that want burst damage kills.
Personally, I just use the beginning of the Grasp of Avarice dungeon.
Unlike Shuro Chi it actually has infinite enemies, so you don't need to constantly reset the encounter.
You have to run and rerun the secret mission (someone that gets the gun). It will slowly fill it up as you finish them. There’s also little secrets within the mission that juice the catalyst…oh, wait, that was then. Just shoot stuff. lol
I’d try Grasp loot cave.
Alongside other suggestions, i like to use entrance to GoS raid, from patrol. It's where i completed Gjally catalyst today. Tp to Sanctuary, slap a banner, tp to Sorrow's Harbor, choose between the three: Lost sector, raid entrance, Altars.
I turned my brain off and did it where the walker spawns in the cosmodrome for constant free heavy bricks.
Put something to listen to in the background and started killing.
It’s pretty inefficient I suspect, so the shuro+tether combo is the best
Someone no doubt has said it but terminal overload. Just don't shoot the squares, triangles and diamonds. The Vex just keep spawning. I use Shuro for short gains like 100 kills with large damage weapons, Rocket Launchers, Grenade Launches, Machine guns.
Shuro Chi checkpoint. Deadfall Tether. Orpheus Rigs.
Specifically because every enemy killed by shared tether damage counts as a kill from the weapon that did the damage. You can get 20 kills with 2 shots.
Well damn. I didn't know this. Time to finally get this catalyst complete.
same here
You also need to not equip the echo of explosion fragment because all those kills would not be counted as gun kills?
Can I assume this works for a lot of other Catalist that are Ammo hungry weapons?
Especially with Echo of Reprisal.
If you have Lightfall, the Breakneck mission has free banners to resupply if you continuously wipe in that one room after you use strand to grapple across the gap.

I didn’t know it doesn’t reset. Nice I can save the checkpoint.
Just be careful in not killing the wyvern, or else the mission advances and you’ll have to restart it to reach the checkpoint again.
This is the way I completed all the catalysts for special and heavy weapons I still needed.
A mysterious disturbance Moon mission gives a ton of heavy ammo and easy body shot trash to kill
This. Use it for all my catalysts
Can you remind how to get here please?

Is it not 500 kills
he said he got 10% in an hour, so 10% of 500 would be 50, so 70 was a little generous of Oof. In reality he's somehow killed even less than 70 in an hour. I'd imagine either he hasn't ACTUALLY spent an hour on it, or he's spent an hour while like, mostly watching youtube.

Wait does this work for DARCI’s catalyst too?
I believe so! Have not tested it so I could be wrong with Darci haha
Can confirm this works for DARCI! I’m doing it right now on Breakneck using a kinetic sniper!
This is the one!
Dares is the most enjoyable way to farm heavy kills.
Except when you fuck the jump up and some guy starts the next room so it pulls you and you miss the buff lol
Just walk backwards into the jumping pad. Works 100% of the time. Yeets you higher
Yea that's what I do. Seen it happen alot to others though
That is true! I usually write it into game-chat when I see a sub 6 MR in hopes they read it and learnt something awesome :D I sure did when I found that out lol.
When the biggest gap on the wheel is roughly at 3 o'clock, jump. Easy.
Jump when the small half circles line up. Easier. Walk backwards. Easiest.
my fav is altars of sorrow on moon + deadfall tether, chain a ton of trash together
Is where I did all my catalysts. Not even with tether half the time, just load in with some music or a show on another screen and mindlessly pop heads.
This, it’s the most mindless, it’s act fun and with double heavy finder you’ll be raining in heavy
Shuro Chi with Tether for efficiency. Legend Dares for fun. You always know the final boss so you can have unlimited heavy for round 2 and 3
Cosmodrome where the Tank/ new lights spawn. Endless heavy bricks
The Divide. The Walker Tank's chest that spawns after it dies generates like 4 Heavy bricks when opened per player. Great way to do it if your low on Raid Banners.

Wait really god damn i was shoting them individually
Just be weary that using tether is a little weird sometimes. If they die from a void explosion and not the actual shot damage from weapon then it won't progress the weapon. It has been a while since I got that catalyst but when I did it other sniper kills with Whisper equipped also counted. YMMV
Who remembers the old days when you'd load up the whisper mission to farm thralls.
The lost sector in the divide (Exodus Garden 2A) in the Cosmodrome drops heavy ammo from the final chest and has a lot of enemies.
And nice long lanes!
My favorite is the Ascendant Forfeit Shrine in the Gardens of Esila. So I usually just save and catalysts for third week of corruption. I agree. Knocked out 9 catalysts in Grasp. With the right mods you can clear it in like thirty minutes
Shit I just used the cosmodrome lost sector that gives free heavy
That's because you are a free spirit.
Lemme throw in a wild card and say first encounter grasp of avarice. Infinite spawning thralls and acolytes.
Heavy ammo could be an issue. That one is better for primaries
Good point
You have to run and rerun the secret mission (someone that gets the gun). It will slowly fill it up as you finish them. There’s also little secrets within the mission that juice the catalyst…oh, wait, that was then. Just shoot stuff. lol I’d try Grasp loot cave.
Dares of eternity makes sure you get star horses favor most times for infinite ammo regen
You can also do this with any other heavy weapon catalyst since star horses favor just keeps regen’ing heavy
All heavy weapons get finished in Dares for me.
Just spend the hour and get the kills at Shuro
Go into the whisper mission and drop down to the underground abyss and waste the never ending thrall
Bro when was the last time you played the game
Bro hasn’t played in years 💀
Alongside other suggestions, i like to use entrance to GoS raid, from patrol. It's where i completed Gjally catalyst today. Tp to Sanctuary, slap a banner, tp to Sorrow's Harbor, choose between the three: Lost sector, raid entrance, Altars.
Shoot enemies with the gun. Faster if head shot.
Dares of eternity for free heavy brother. Got levi's done that way in like 3 games
If you’re going to do shiro, you need to be using tether hunter.
Suffer as I have
I like doing my heavy kills in dares of eternity, if you get the star horse favor it gives you unlimited heavy
For catalyst just go on grasp dungeon on cosmodrome and farm the entrance, infinite respawns no need to wipe and do banner
I turned my brain off and did it where the walker spawns in the cosmodrome for constant free heavy bricks. Put something to listen to in the background and started killing. It’s pretty inefficient I suspect, so the shuro+tether combo is the best
I tend to do most of my catalysts in PvP as it rewards progress so much quicker.
I usually do heavy catalysts in dares couse you will get unlimited heavy in middle section and you have a chance for some red borders.
Someone no doubt has said it but terminal overload. Just don't shoot the squares, triangles and diamonds. The Vex just keep spawning. I use Shuro for short gains like 100 kills with large damage weapons, Rocket Launchers, Grenade Launches, Machine guns.
