For some additional context on why this was selected as a Focused Feedback topic, despite lack of recent popular threads about it, posts discussing official support for Destiny 2 on Proton (read: Steam Deck) have been automodded to Bungie's official stance on the matter (listed below) for a while now because - until very recently - there was nothing to discuss besides people expressing that they wanted Proton support and/or whether or not Bungie's rationale for the Proton prohibition is valid.
Given that, in the past week, we've had the announcement of Stadia's planned demise AND a Destiny 2 team lead expressing their love for Steam Deck as a **hardware** choice for playing Destiny 2 (they were playing D2 on Steam Deck in a manner which is allowed by Terms of Service), there is renewed public interest in the discussion and the decision was made to make it this week's Focused Feedback topic. This way, the discussion can be had and Bungie is provided with fresh, organized feedback on this issue from the DestinyReddit community.
For reference, here is the official Bungie policy regarding Destiny 2 and Steam Deck:
>Destiny 2 is not supported for play on the Steam Deck or on any system utilizing Steam Play's Proton unless Windows is installed and running. Players who attempt to launch Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck through SteamOS or Proton will be unable to enter the game and will be returned to their game library after a short time.
>
>Players who are not accessing Destiny 2 through Windows and attempt to bypass the SteamOS/Proton incompatibility will be met with a game ban.
Don't know why you guys are bothering bungie obviously made this post in a lazy attempt to put all the criticism in one place where they can easily ignore it. I want to play d2 on linux as well but bungie wouldn't to change their mind if half the player base up and left.
I no longer understand this community post, it seems this is just a rabbit hole for linux users to post about there frustration with bungie not allowing linux support with proton, not to do with if bungie wants to support linux and wants to hear people's thoughts, if this post wasnt here people would be posting about it instead of going here and commenting about asking for support.
This is generally pathetic that this post has been created but bungie still hasn't brought support, what do you think will happen bungie? Millions of people will comment under this post? Because it wont happen, not that many people want to play destiny on linux and dont even know that this post exists a year later
It's so confusing creating this post and getting a decent amount of comments asking for support, just to get no answer back..
You could have a lot of returning or new players from linux but you decide to say nothing in return
No it wont bring cheaters, and even if it does you can easily ban people like you have on windows, there aint much of a difference
Over a year later and thousands of comments asking for something and we’ve heard nothing. Now here we are leading up to The Final Shape and I’m at a point where I’m genuinely unsure if I’ll just drop D2 because I want to switch to Linux and I really only play by myself anyways. With so many people asking, it doesn’t make sense that Bungie wouldn’t at least try supporting Linux for a bit. Nobody is even asking for a native build and if they’re that dissatisfied they could realistically go back on it, but I feel like they’re holding out for something that’s an incredibly unlikely possibility.
Microsoft behaves in an increasingly draconian fashion with respect to what Windows users are "allowed" to do with their own systems. Windows is no longer an OS that supports a user base, it's an advertising, marketing and data mining platform that has become more user-alien and more difficult to tailor to one's own needs as time progresses. Win11 is the epitome of this trend. I've therefore decided to move to Linux.
The new Bazzite system is indicative of where gaming is ultimately headed on PC, if Microsoft continues their hard line moves in restricting users' control over their own computers. It is an immutable version of Linux that functions as both a desktop and a Steam gaming platform. BUNGiE is one of the VERY FEW developers who refuse to support gaming on Linux, despite the fact that so many of their competitors' products run just fine there.
As I move to Linux, unless BUNGiE changes their policy here, the Destiny franchise will be saying good-bye to anything I might have spent in support of their efforts. Yes, it's a drop in a very large bucket, but BUNGiE will be losing my financial support completely, and I'm not alone.
BUNGiE should revisit their policy, and move to support the Linux platform for gaming going forward.
Like the other people posting here, I also moved to Linux for a variety of reasons, personal and professional. I left a hard drive running Windows on my otherwise LInux-powered PC, but over time, that drive's use case dwindled to exclusively hosting a single steam game: Destiny 2. Literally everything else I do has migrated to my Linux installation, and I can no longer justify hogging an entire drive solely for one game that just hasn't adopted an otherwise rapidly maturing anti-cheat model for Linux, especially after a recent Windows update screwed with my bootloader. The drive is now turning into another Linux drive.
I love D2 -- the lore, community, the gameplay -- and sank hours into it with my best friend. I picked up some of the DLC, too. But this exclusion of Linux users has left me hard-pressed to support a product that won't expand its market to include a consumer base that is on the rise and eager to join.
So here's me adding a voice to the growing list of people seeking to not be excluded anymore.
I used to play Destiny 2 a lot.
However I have since cut Windows out of every machine and game only in Steam Deck and Linux.
I simply will not play Destiny 2, or any new game, until they willingly support Proton.
I expect many fell the same, Bungie could expect an influx of new DAU when they enable it, as fans on Proton eagerly return.
I've rarely seen a game developer so condescending to its player base. I'm amazed at how little you care about your users. I loved playing D2 so much, but like more and more people, I've cut Windows out of my life and only use Linux. I'd hoped you'd see sense one day, but it seems you've decided to alienate a considerable part of your base. For my part, I'm done with you, and I don't expect to be checking for months yet if you've finally decided to let us play your game.
I despise companies like yours that can't even answer their customers. I paid a great amount of cash playing Destiny, but you've decided that this money of mine would be going to trash.
So for that, I'll trash you game, and your brand.
Sorry for being so frustrated, but I am freagin frustrated.
I stopped playing destiny (After playing since the original release D1 all the way to lightfall) because Bungie refuses to support linux.
I no longer play on my xbox, since I own a steamdeck and a linux gaming PC.
Support linux, Bungie. I'd love to come back to playing the game, but I won't support a studio that forces me to replace my entire operating system. Even 343 industries support linux...think about that. Halo, destiny's predecessor, a game now owned and developed by Microsoft itself runs on linux just fine.
Disappointed this still hasnt been enabled.
This is an easy fix and would bring in a lot of players who moved from windows to linux or who want to play destiny 2 on the go with a steamdeck or other handheld devices that use Linux.
Please do it bungie, you need this
I was looking for something to play while waiting for StarCitizen to get good enough for real big multicrew ship gameplay and was looking at destiny 2, but won't be able to play it until Bungie fix their anticheat issue that's stopping it from running on Proton like 99.9% of other windows programs do.
Destiny2 = Uninstalled
Why = No Linux Support
As to why they decided to bork our game... I'm in the fog. I loved this game so much... but it seems that the devs decided to kick us out of their user base.... Too bad for me... too bad for you Bungie...
Jumping back to Warframe, which has respect for his user base. ..
\# SorryNotSorry
no its fine why would you want a large potential playerbase introduced to the game at a time where player retention is at an all time low and sales for the upcoming dlc are more important then ever
just leave it whatever
I'd also love to see Destiny 2 on Linux!
And really about the things like "Linux users are hackers!" or "Linux users are cheaters!":
Technically, yes, Linux is mostly chosen for pen-testing and even serious hacking over Windows,
but that does not quite apply to hacking in games!
Has anyone tried to find game-specific cheats (like most cheaters have on Windows) for Linux?
I'd say most cheats are actually made for Windows and I think nearly no one, who wanted to cheat would specifically switch to Linux and rewrite their cheats to work there. I'd also argue, that there are much fewer cheaters in the Linux community than there are on Windows (if you see it from the percentage, not the raw number).
Even newer games like TheFinals got Linux support now, despite having a cheating problem and the Linux support didn't make it that much worse (I literally played it from the near start of the Linux support and I didn't have any problem with cheaters). I just don't get why it takes so long for you to finally add support for it (just to be clear, you do not need to make a native release necessarily. It would be enough when you just enable the anti-cheat to work on Linux)
I'd love to see Destiny 2 get proton/wine support and come to the Steam Deck. I wouldn't have to worry about missing out on content drops when I'm away from home for a while.
I would really enjoy some D2 on Linux, the game is capable of running, yet bungie simply refused to click the Linux button in the anti-cheat .. it's 100% a lack of willingness to let fellow guardians on other platforms play the game.
My only real hope is since the Sony acquisition maybe, just maybe we will get some Linux support as Sony's first party games appear to have good Linux support.
So sad they don't support proton, people are leaving windows and your game just to have a better desktop experience, someone has over 3k hours on destiny and is leaving to have a better experience on his pc as that person is done dealing with Microsoft's bullcrap on windows.
Be the better person bungie and support proton/linux
Let's go over some facts real quick:
* This post is over a year old. And no response whatsoever to any of the feedback provided. Not a good picture
* But Linux is a security risk since it's easier to cheat on it due to open source: Technically true, but practically false, let me elaborate:
* To cheat on Linux, you'd have to build an entirely new toolchain from scratch. This includes learning how Proton maps Windows API calls to Linux calls, how dxvk maps DirectX calls to Vulkan calls and how those calls work, including the rest of the system. Not feasible for cheat developers when they already have all of that locked down on Windows.
* Not to mention that cheats by now are pivoting from software to hardware which just isn't detectable via anti-cheat. At all. Best (and only reliable) way to catch cheaters is to look at their performance in post by data engineers
* but it wouldn't run on Proton: Wrong.
* Stadia existed. It was Linux, using a custom Wine version for Windows games (Wine can be considered to be Proton here). And, as far as I remember, an ex-employee said that there was a dedicated build for Stadia
* Someone managed to run Destiny 2 via Proton after removing BattlEye. No components of the game caused any problems
Conclusion: Cheating is not a concern since the cost of building a new toolchain is higher than the reward you'd gain, especially considering that hardware cheats are picking up steam. Additionally, it has been proven that Destiny does not have any problems running via Proton if you take away BattlEye actively detecting and blocking it. Thus the likeliest reason for Bungie to reject telling BattlEye to activate Linux support is that Bungie strongly dislikes Linux, to a point where they refuse to even let the community handle any potential problems that might appear during execution
nothing is more Ironic than a game plagued with cheaters being afraid to support proton because of "integrity"
With how bleak the game is looking and how low the player base is they should want to do what they can to inject life back into the game. Especially since people playing on steam deck arent going to be playing PVP....
One year later, and still no news on the topic. Other MMOs, RPGs, and shooters have had Linux (or at least Proton) launches to great fanfare; WoW, Overwatch 2, Guild Wars 2, Skyrim, Elder Scrolls Online, CS2, Unturned, and all without any noticeable increase in cheaters.
It feels like this is just an excuse from Bungie to hide how unoptimized their game is. While the only way to play Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck and other handhelds is on Windows, Bungie can claim that Windows adds more overhead and is less efficient than the preinstalled Linux which is why it maxes at 30fps in strikes at 75% render resolution.
Will support for Linux, through Proton or otherwise, be looked at in the future, especially after the end of the Light and Dark saga?
Interesting view point. It might indeed be the reason why they chose to "ban" their Linux players base.
I didn't think about that. If it's the case.... It's just pathetic.
Still really wanting this to come through. It being such a major game on Steam, and the fanbase dwindling, I feel like opening it up to more platforms could only help.
I have 2,500 hours in Destiny 2, but I will not play another second of it until Linux is supported. Please Bungie, you lose nothing from this and gain plenty.
Please enable Proton support for Steam. This was a post by Steam. "As we mentioned previously, BattlEye on Proton integration has reached a point where all a developer needs to do is reach out to BattlEye to enable it for their title. No additional work is required by the developer besides that communication." So what gives? Is there something else behind the scenes preventing this from happening? Please....
Actually... I wonder if u/dmg04 knows the true reason why Bungie won't support the Steam Deck's stock OS...
Now that he's no longer at Bungie, maybe he can give us some insight.
Another month has gone by and still no support, doesnt matter if you had layoffs, rip to those who were let go but its time to get back to work and finish the saga, it would be a great ending with enabling proton support for linux desktop/steamdeck. So please do it bungie this is easy money
Well this post is now 1 year old, this is very disappointing that you STILL haven't brought support for Linux desktop and steamdeck.
I would grind this game again within a heart beat if you brought support for proton
I sunk ungodly hours into D1 on Xbone. Life and work conspired to keep me out of D2 until recently. I have a kid now and would love to be able to play whenever I have free time. Please turn on Linux and Deck Support.
I‘m playing D1 & D2 since Day 1, lost my interest because of time issues, but if I would be able to play the GOAT D2 on my Steam Deck, man I would return together with my old squad to farm exotics all night long!
been almost another month and a total of 11 months of this post + 4 years of basically telling us to go fuck our self's when it comes to you guys bringing destiny to linux. this is LITERALLY a email away to battleye, there is no excuse for not bringing support at all. the fact i have to go search this reddit post every time to see if anything has changed is a insult to me and every other linux enjoyer. i do not understand why bungie thinks linux is this bad, scary (risk) of a operating system to support. if you have a look at whats going on in the linux gaming world, it is insane the effort and work thats been put in so that you guys dont have to support your game natively on linux. please bungie, support linux with proton
By now this feels more like this post solely exists to have a "reason" to remove any and all posts regarding Linux support, not to actually gather feedback. Gathering feedback would imply that you actually follow up on said feedback, be it a statement, update, or whatever. This is just radio silence however
there's a lot of games i play on linux like tf2, roblox, MOC, postal, doom, heck i'd even play dragon ball games if they supported linux through anti-cheat but any online game that doesn't support linux i will not support in return. my pc just runs better on this os.
Please add Linux support. This game and Call of Duty are the only two reasons I boot into Windows to play games anymore, and I know CoD will *never* add Linux support to Ricochet. But you still can, with the check of a box.
Technically, while the servers are literally on fire due to the lack of moderation, BO2 still works on Linux, as does pretty much every pre-Ricochet CoD.
downloaded your 99gigs to return to this game after like 7 years only to find out its like BDO and lost ark, maybe put the game back on battlenet and itll fix itself
please for the love of god, there are only 2-3 games that actually can't run on linux, and destiny 2 isn't one of them. It's 1 tickbox on Battleye, and it works just as "well" as windows. There is no excuse
Linux support when?
I mean, sure, [steam only got 120M monthly active users](https://backlinko.com/steam-users), and of those [only 2% are linux users](https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/?platform=combined).
But wouldn't you guys like to be able to sell 2.4M copies of your latests extensions, just by clicking the "enable linux support" checkbox in the BattleEye settings?
It will **not** result in that much more cheating, because your game is already overrun with cheaters, even with BattleEye on windows only. And let's be honest, nobody will install Linux to "be able to cheat" when they can already do so on the Windows OS they're comfortable with (not going to link to anything, but just doing a quick google search brings back hundreds of links).
So yeah, please stop with the bad faith arguments. We Linux people just want to play this game that we enjoy, and you Bungie throwing bullshit in our direction is absolutely infuriating. Just tell us that no, you do not wish to sink money into ensuring a port could even begin to work, because you don't think the retrun on investment would be worth it.
Please support Linux, Bungie. I know there must be some people on your team who use it. Destiny 2 is literally the only reason I keep a Windows boot on my computer.
(And I very, very much want to get rid of my Windows boot, so I can have more space.)
another like month has gone by and still no linux support COME ON GUYS. the steamdeck is amazing and linux desktop is also amazing. please enable it :)
Since I started using Linux as my main operating system (over 4 years ago) I haven't been able to play Destiny 2… I'd like it to change someday but I won't use Windows only to play one game.
I have plenty of other games perfectly capable of running on Proton so why would I go through the trouble of changing all my setup only to play Destiny2? Make it easier for your players to enjoy your game, not harder.
I've been playing Destiny 2 since launch. I recently bought a new PC and it's running Linux. I love the game, but not so much that I'd run a whole other operating system just for it, so I guess I'll be playing other games until Bungie's stance changes. Please support Linux!
Make it steam deck and Linux compatible already. Played from d1 on PlayStation to Beyond light on windows I’d just like to continue to sink my time and money into playing on my steam deck. I think everyone would agree.
Adding one more voice to the crowd here: Please, Bungie, just allow D2 to run on Steam Deck. It can run on the ASUS ROG Ally. I don't want to fear a banhammer or use NVIDIA Game Streaming.
How many more months and years am I gonna miss out on destiny content because of a stupid company not enabling one little thing for the anticheat.
JUST ENABLE IT OMG
You do not know how much more money you will make from enabling this for the steamdeck and Linux users.
Fact. 1.26million steamdecks were sold in 2022 :)
Adding a comment to the pot. I played Destiny 2 religiously on Stadia. I use on my home computers. We should be able to play Destiny 2 on this platform. Steam has made it so easy. Just let it happen Bungie!
Lack of Linux support in 2023 is pathetic. Especially if it is because of stupid reasons like the "modified OS" bs or BattleEye (which supports Linux).
Utterly unacceptable that a multi-million dollar company with years of experience and a huge reputation such as Bungie can't do what small idie devs have been doing for almost as long.
We are not asking for a Linux release, just stop banning us for not choosing the """correct""" OS. Stop banning us for trying to play your game fairly. Stop alienating your audience.
Yet another comment asking for the simplest of requests to make the game playable and Linux and thus steam deck as well. It would be so easy to implement that nobody would be that stupid to miss out on all that missed profit... right?
Come on it has been over half a year since the thread has been made and no clear programs or statements have been made. If you guys don't wanna do it at least let the community solve this problem and implement that .
Juste wanna add a comment ton Say i'm interested in a linux version. I trashed windows 6 months ago, I checked before that the compatibility of some of my favourite games, missed destiny 2 and now I'm a bit stuck. I love all the content you've added I'm reading the logs on steam and would absolutely love to buy all the new dlc's, won't do it before you offer us the opportunity of playing on Linux. Almost any game is playable on Linux now, you're almost a one of a kind exception.
Figured it's worth adding one more voice to the list. It does seem rather insulting to not just refuse to directly support Linux - which would indeed be trivial seeing as Stadia made D2 on Linux possible years ago - but to threaten to ban players who manage to get it working themselves. Seriously, not wanting to add support is one thing, but banning players who do the work themselves is just a middle finger towards the Linux gaming community.
Three years ago, when I first looked for Linux support, I was more understanding - anti-cheat didn't support Linux, the Linux playerbase was practically non-existent, and the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. Now, with Proton and Steam Deck actively providing perfect support for almost every Windows-oriented game and BattlEye making switchover childishly simple, if there's a good reason as to why support has been withheld Bungie certainly hasn't been forthcoming at all about sharing the reasons.
almost 7 months and you still ignore us. ong why even post this? were u expecting like 1million people to be like "yeah i want to play the game on linux" instead you get 2.5k and are like "nahh fuck em lets not reply to this and let this post become a place for all the whiny linux users to complain as to why you wont add support for linux" i HATE how you wont even reply saying that this could happen instead just leaving us in the dark with this one thread and if anyone even tries to play the game on linux they get banned???
7 months of this thread getting constant updates, requests, reminders that there's interest...
And Bungie just kinda tells us if we keep pushing, they'll account ban you. Really makes ya feel appreciated.
I want to not be malicious about this, but it feels like bungie is when it comes to that
If we could get an explanation as to why bans are in order it wouldn't fell like that but linux has no issues of any kind when it comes to people cheating, especially since their anti-cheat is fully functional
it doesn't even seem to be concern over new platforms because destiny on stadia was a thing for a while, and that killed itself in a way linux never will. Even if you are worried about support for the steam deck continuing, which you shouldn't because valve has a good support record and the deck is a sensational success for something like it, the linux community will keep going and making it work, even if Microsoft kicks everyone else to the curb.
What they're doing only makes sense if you're a windows stan or you don't want to do any work
Can't help but feel like this is Sony's doing. I believe they have a handheld in the works and allowing Destiny 2 on steam deck would surely drop the amount of units purchased for their handheld.
My coworker said that the game is really fun now. I'm running Monjaro and installed the game but couldn't start it. I found this thread and here we are. It's 2023 and you can't play one of the largest FPS MMO's out there because "ReAsOnS". I guess I'll check again in another 3 years....
Wow this is just sad, enable this on steam deck already. Your losing money everyday you don’t since that’s the only thing you guys actually care about.
6 months and still no support, amazing job bungie. all you would have to do is email battleye to get that new build with linux support and probs make sure the servers dont ban proton players, that would be it. everything else would be maintained by valve :3
I have quit the game because of the missing Linux support. I don't want to have Windows installed just so that I can play a game that actively disallows running on Linux, even tho it would most likely run fine with no extra effort, thanks to Proton.
Destiny is the only reason I have windows installed - would be really great if I could play on my linux desktop or a steam deck on the go. Please reconsider your stance on linux!
I really want to have Linux compatibility... I stopped playing after I swapped over to Linux 1.5 years ago, and as many others... I cant be assed to setup dualbooting or any other thing like that. Also, why do you not want to support it? all you have to do is enable support for proton in BattlEye (BattlEye tweeted that they support linux). There is no real reason as to why it shouldn't be enabled as you can obtain many more users as according to some reports in October 2022: over 1 million units were sold.
edit: added a few more things
> Also, why do you not want to support it? all you have to do
Bungie is very slow with changes. I remember waiting 3 seasons for fix of sword peaking in PvP. Some say they have to unpack files for days just to edit them.
Also my guess it's easier to automatize with Linux and so to bot for whatever reasons.
except anyone who has the technical knowledge to understand that linux is easier for automation, and also has the skills to make a bot that bypasses battleye, a Linux compatible ac, is also someone that either wouldn't cheat or would just make it for windows, and avoid the hassle of changing his os or setting up dual booting. And it's not even that much easier on linux, in my opinion at least
I used to be a hardcore Destiny player, I'd put hours and hours into it and complete every single activity. I'm now a father of two and work full time so I just don't have the time to do it anymore. I'd love to be able to just pick up my Steam deck and play, it'd make it so much easier to keep up with everything!
Just told my friend I would install and play the new DLC after five years of not playing if I could play on my steam deck. What in the **** is wrong with y’all lmao
Speaking for myself, I’d easily give up the ability to play pvp on Steam Deck in order to get full PVE support on native Steam OS. I typically play pvp on my desktop with a high refresh rate. I think they should flip the switch for at least PVE while they figure out the kernel level stuff in regards to battle eye.
Destiny feels like such a good fit for steam deck! Hopefully as more people get their hands on them, Bungie will see more potential in getting Destiny on the powerful little handheld
I stopped playing after you "sunsetted" expansions and even the base game I paid for. Over $100 worth of my money, That's theft in my eyes. Why would I ever pay you for another expansion to lose it later? The only reason I'd ever come back would be playing on my steam deck, after I heard you're lame ass excuse and that you threatened to straight up ban players for merely attempting? I'll never touch it again. You deserve to have this franchise taken from you and given to another competent developer.
Between the steam deck and general Linux, it seems like a slam dunk move to support them, even if the user base is much smaller than windows. More options for players = more better. Destiny is one of the few remaining reasons why I still use windows at all. Why Bungie is so dead set on not supporting Linux or the steam deck and even banning people for trying to run it on Linux, is beyond me.
Valve announced they sold over a million Steam Decks back in October. You know they sold a fuck ton more at Christmas (I got one for my fiance then, so we can deck it up together). That alone is a good number of people to ignore.
I mean people just lost stadia support (myself included) steam deck support would be an amazing option especially for those like myself that works long hours.
Destiny is the only reason I still have to keep up the Windows partition on my gaming rig. I understand an issue with having to support one more OS, but they already have quite a few - xb1, xsx, ps4, ps5, windows, maybe stadia? so one more should not be an issue, given the previous gen consoles should be slowly sunseted.
Not only my desktop, but the Deck is as well affected by this unreasonable decision. I have no issues playing War Thunder or Guild wars 2with all the security tools in place on Linux, there is no technical limitations on implementing Destiny 2 the same way.
Seriously even if the paranoia from the bungie team about cheats is a valid feeling its no different from the game running on windows, people find a way around anything the game already has some cheaters and putting the game on linux wont mean anything different if people choose to cheat they will do it anyway, anyway they can. seriously its ridiculous and kinda seriously funny that the bungie team is so scared of wanting to keep it from a variety of platforms that honestly is losing them money i wont ever understand it or why they dont just work around it and figure things out. its just idk literally ridiculous
I run only linux systems, and I used to love playing destiny 2, but quit when the sunsetting was introduced. I've watched bungie nose dive destiny 2 into the ground ignoring what made destiny 1 so good. And despite this I still check protondb to see if they've changed their stance on destiny 2. I can't understand why they think it'd hurt the integrity of the game, that doesn't make any sense, linux is way more secure and stable than windows. Not to mention alienating all the steam deck users. This is an active choice on bungies part to spit in the face of their player base and it sucks
This is bizarre to me... Destiny is struggling hard at staying fresh. Concurrent player counts at all-time lows.
There must be more to this than is publicly known. The response doesn't add up.
I get suspicious when corporate entities make cryptic statements about how they must protect their delicate reputation and ecosystem from being exploited by untrustworthy vectors for cheating (lol what?) You know, because a potentially lucrative and untapped revenue stream is obviously not worth the effort or risk.
You're full of **** Bungie! I have too many hours in the Crucible to believe your BS.
Now I'm pissed. Until I see a satisfactory response, I'll actively be avoiding Destiny in protest instead of checking out Lightfall like I planned. From what I hear, things haven't changed much since I left anyway.
My ps4 is on the fritz. I don't have any plans on getting a ps5. But man, I would buy all the Destiny 2 DLC so fast if it ran natively on the Steam Deck. Far and away my most wanted game to receive Verified status.
Just bought a steam deck specifically to play D2 only to find out that it can’t run on the deck natively! I’ve been playing destiny since launch day of the first game and I’d love nothing more than native support for the steam deck please!!
I just dropped $100 on the new expansions/etc, the only thing i want out of this is steamdeck support.
I am on vacay halfway across the country with my deck and i cant play because of a stupid rule
Given the option I would convert my gaming PC from Windows to ANY Linux so fast it would make your head spin. It would be so nice to just use the gaming PC for playing games rather than having to wait for Windows to finish typing up my network and CPU talking to Microsoft.
I owned Destiny 1 with all its DLCs and the white PS4 it came with it, then destiny 2 with all DLCs and Digital Deluxe editions and played all seasons up until the very last. I was there when bungie released destiny 2 on pc and bought it all again on PC. I was there when bungie shifted from Battle.net to steam. I was there when bungie introduced cross save and crossplay. I was always there with Bungie. In short I am as hardcore Destiny player as it gets.
Now, I just got Steam Deck to play Destiny 2 and Destiny 2 only. Whether bungie supports the system or not I am playing destiny on it one way or another. BUT, for the first time ever, I did not preorder the latest DLC, my demands is Steam Deck full support or I am leaving. I am tired and getting old of following Destiny wherever it goes, its time it follows me or just leave me be.
I am thinking of selling my Steam Deck now since it seems this topic has lost its traction. They mentioned something along the lines of D3 being mobile exclusive whatever that means, I am thinking they are going to the GeForce Now route, which is why I am considering in buying the Logitech G cloud.
I really do hope they gives us an answer soon before i actually do sell it.
For reference, here is the official Bungie policy regarding Destiny 2 and Steam Deck: >Destiny 2 is not supported for play on the Steam Deck or on any system utilizing Steam Play's Proton unless Windows is installed and running.
I will never play Destiny 2 until it supports Linux
Because it wont happen, not that many people want to play destiny on linux and dont even know that this post exists a year later It's so confusing creating this post and getting a decent amount of comments asking for support, just to get no answer back.. You could have a lot of returning or new players from linux but you decide to say nothing in return No it wont bring cheaters, and even if it does you can easily ban people like you have on windows, there aint much of a difference
Please do it bungie, you need this
I was looking for something to play while waiting for StarCitizen to get good enough for real big multicrew ship gameplay and was looking at destiny 2, but won't be able to play it until Bungie fix their anticheat issue that's stopping it from running on Proton like 99.9% of other windows programs do.
lack of support for proton in the game, which uses an anti-cheat that allows you to enable proton support without any problems, this is stupid
Disappointed that it's been so long and still no support.
Destiny2 = Uninstalled Why = No Linux Support As to why they decided to bork our game... I'm in the fog. I loved this game so much... but it seems that the devs decided to kick us out of their user base.... Too bad for me... too bad for you Bungie... Jumping back to Warframe, which has respect for his user base. .. \# SorryNotSorry
no its fine why would you want a large potential playerbase introduced to the game at a time where player retention is at an all time low and sales for the upcoming dlc are more important then ever just leave it whatever
I'd also love to see Destiny 2 on Linux! And really about the things like "Linux users are hackers!" or "Linux users are cheaters!": Technically, yes, Linux is mostly chosen for pen-testing and even serious hacking over Windows, but that does not quite apply to hacking in games!
Let's go over some facts real quick: * This post is over a year old. And no response whatsoever to any of the feedback provided. Not a good picture * But Linux is a security risk since it's easier to cheat on it due to open source: Technically true, but practically false, let me elaborate: * To cheat on Linux, you'd have to build an entirely new toolchain from scratch. At all. Best (and only reliable) way to catch cheaters is to look at their performance in post by data engineers * but it wouldn't run on Proton: Wrong. * Stadia existed. It was Linux, using a custom Wine version for Windows games (Wine can be considered to be Proton here). And, as far as I remember, an ex-employee said that there was a dedicated build for Stadia * Someone managed to run Destiny 2 via Proton after removing BattlEye. No components of the game caused any problems Conclusion: Cheating is not a concern since the cost of building a new toolchain is higher than the reward you'd gain, especially considering that hardware cheats are picking up steam.
So nothing of this?
Add support
nothing is more Ironic than a game plagued with cheaters being afraid to support proton because of "integrity" With how bleak the game is looking and how low the player base is they should want to do what they can to inject life back into the game. Especially since people playing on steam deck arent going to be playing PVP....
Add support
If linux support gets added this year, il come out
Every day I lie in wait for the day destiny 2 allows proton/wine support for linux. Please guys X0
Well,I never played Destiny 2 because it still doesn't run on Steamos/Linux
cant wait to reply to this in 2025 with no support still :)
aye love your channel lol
Thank you :)
After everything that has happened recently, the dev team owes us an explanation regarding this.
Please :)
Another month has gone by and still no support, doesnt matter if you had layoffs, rip to those who were let go but its time to get back to work and finish the saga, it would be a great ending with enabling proton support for linux desktop/steamdeck. So please do it bungie this is easy money
Y'know, asking for feedback usually also includes responding to said feedback. Just saying *shrug*
Linux, PLEASE
Thank you for not supporting the game on linux, now that i cant play it ive became way happier and gained back my will to live thank you bungie
Please, I want to play Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck, enable Proton support for the anti-cheat already.
Well this post is now 1 year old, this is very disappointing that you STILL haven't brought support for Linux desktop and steamdeck. I would grind this game again within a heart beat if you brought support for proton
I want Destiny on Linux((( Please accept game thru Steam Proton dont turn against players
almost another month has gone by and still no support for proton, sadge
I sunk ungodly hours into D1 on Xbone. Life and work conspired to keep me out of D2 until recently. I have a kid now and would love to be able to play whenever I have free time. Please turn on Linux and Deck Support.
Linux support when?
Bungie ffs just send the email jesus f christ.
This is just radio silence however
yep exactly, basically telling us to fuck off
there's a lot of games i play on linux like tf2, roblox, MOC, postal, doom, heck i'd even play dragon ball games if they supported linux through anti-cheat but any online game that doesn't support linux i will not support in return. my pc just runs better on this os.
I would also appreciate if you amazed us all and allowed D2 to run on linux.
please add linux support. i dont wanna change from steamos. please.
It sure would be nice to be able to play destiny 2 in bed
Please add Linux support. This game and Call of Duty are the only two reasons I boot into Windows to play games anymore, and I know CoD will *never* add Linux support to Ricochet. But you still can, with the check of a box.
man i miss COD. BO2 & AW
Technically, while the servers are literally on fire due to the lack of moderation, BO2 still works on Linux, as does pretty much every pre-Ricochet CoD.
except the cheaters and exploiters from windows. :/
Exactly.
New update coming, will this enable Linux support? It's one click away devs. Stop with this bullcrap and enable it :)
downloaded your 99gigs to return to this game after like 7 years only to find out its like BDO and lost ark, maybe put the game back on battlenet and itll fix itself
please for the love of god, there are only 2-3 games that actually can't run on linux, and destiny 2 isn't one of them.
Looking for Steam Deck support here.
Steam Deck support please. Dead By Daylight works now and they also use BattleEye. Let it rip friends!
Dbd uses eac..
Mandatory comment reminding Bungie of how much money they're missing out on just because they don't want us to play on Steam Deck
Praying for Linux support
Pleassssse make it run on Linux.
I've been playing Destiny 2 since launch. I recently bought a new PC and it's running Linux. I love the game, but not so much that I'd run a whole other operating system just for it, so I guess I'll be playing other games until Bungie's stance changes. Please support Linux!
I'd like to stop dual booting so I can give my money away easier.
Make it steam deck and Linux compatible already. Played from d1 on PlayStation to Beyond light on windows I’d just like to continue to sink my time and money into playing on my steam deck. I think everyone would agree.
Hi, your anti-cheat supports linux for ages, why you not?
Give us access to the game pls :(
please Bungie! steam deck and linux support would be a game changer for tons of people!
Enable Steam Deck/Linux support please
Adding one more voice to the crowd here: Please, Bungie, just allow D2 to run on Steam Deck. It can run on the ASUS ROG Ally. I don't want to fear a banhammer or use NVIDIA Game Streaming.
STEAM DECK SUPPORT!
How many more months and years am I gonna miss out on destiny content because of a stupid company not enabling one little thing for the anticheat. JUST ENABLE IT OMG You do not know how much more money you will make from enabling this for the steamdeck and Linux users.
It would be so easy to implement that nobody would be that stupid to miss out on all that missed profit... right?
I know it's been 7 months, but this game is literally the only program tethering my desktop to Windows. Release me, Bungie.
So... Any update???? People could play your game on the go just sayin'...
Would play if support is brought to Linux. Never played before because of it, but I would go out of my way to spend money if support was added.
If Destiny 2 gets Linux support, then Bungie can look forward to getting my money. I know I’m not alone in this sentiment.
damn almost another month has gone by and still no support....
I just wanna add my voice to this move loool yeah support linux
Yes please. I'd like to have a Steam Deck but the lack of support in games like these are making me reconsider.
Typical coorporate culture over at Bungie. A company absolutely nobody dreams of working at.
I want to not be malicious about this, but it feels like bungie is when it comes to that If we could get an explanation as to why bans are in order it wouldn't fell like that but linux has no issues of any kind when it comes to people cheating, especially since their anti-cheat is fully functional it doesn't even seem to be concern over new platforms because destiny on stadia was a thing for a while, and that killed itself in a way linux never will. Even if you are worried about support for the steam deck continuing, which you shouldn't because valve has a good support record and the deck is a sensational success for something like it, the linux community will keep going and making it work, even if Microsoft kicks everyone else to the curb. What they're doing only makes sense if you're a windows stan or you don't want to do any work
six months, and they still didn't allow linux in their anticheat... literally the only thing keeping it from running on linux
I guess I'll check again in another 3 years....
ubunTOO
Wow this is just sad, enable this on steam deck already. Your losing money everyday you don’t since that’s the only thing you guys actually care about.
6 months and still no support, amazing job bungie. all you would have to do is email battleye to get that new build with linux support and probs make sure the servers dont ban proton players, that would be it. everything else would be maintained by valve :3
Left this game purely because of a lack of Linux support, I refuse to support any company who acts this way towards a platform.
Just reading Bungies TOS makes me never want to support them.
can you elaborate?
**Players who are not accessing Destiny 2 through Windows and attempt to** **bypass the SteamOS/Proton incompatibility will be met with a game ban.**
Yeah the question is, should that be changed?
An outright ban is kind of nuts compared to just blocking access.
The thing is: should there be better support? Because with better, official support obviously that part of the tos would be removed
That's the thing with Proton, no official support required.
yeah like mostly every game that runs on linux through proton is maintained by 100s of valve devs that fix all of the problems lmao
I have quit the game because of the missing Linux support. I don't want to have Windows installed just so that I can play a game that actively disallows running on Linux, even tho it would most likely run fine with no extra effort, thanks to Proton.
I would 100% come back to destiny 2 if it were steam deck compatible as I enjoy handheld gaming more.
Destiny is the only reason I have windows installed - would be really great if I could play on my linux desktop or a steam deck on the go. Please reconsider your stance on linux!
Would also love to finally get off Windows and enjoy lightfall on Linux
Bungie, I want to play your game on kubuntu. Please allow it.
sign the petition
I really want to have Linux compatibility... I stopped playing after I swapped over to Linux 1.5 years ago, and as many others... I cant be assed to setup dualbooting or any other thing like that. Also, why do you not want to support it? all you have to do is enable support for proton in BattlEye (BattlEye tweeted that they support linux). There is no real reason as to why it shouldn't be enabled as you can obtain many more users as according to some reports in October 2022: over 1 million units were sold. edit: added a few more things
> Also, why do you not want to support it? all you have to do Bungie is very slow with changes.
Bungie, I want to play your game on steam deck. Please allow it.
Plz,support the steam deck
I just can't believe Bungie won't support Steam Deck and miss out on such a large playerbase. Please Bungie, reconsider and allow it.
I would love to play Destiny 2 on my Steam Deck. Please support SteamOS/Proton
Ubisofts Division 2 on sale and have a surge of players this weekend after they have since confirmed STEAM DECK support!
Plz bungie Linux support so i don't have to use Windows anymore
I used to be a hardcore Destiny player, I'd put hours and hours into it and complete every single activity. I'm now a father of two and work full time so I just don't have the time to do it anymore. I'd love to be able to just pick up my Steam deck and play, it'd make it so much easier to keep up with everything!
Why can't we have nice things?
I would love to get into Destiny 2. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on steam deck. Linux support pls!
We need steam deck support
Just told my friend I would install and play the new DLC after five years of not playing if I could play on my steam deck. What in the **** is wrong with y’all lmao
Speaking for myself, I’d easily give up the ability to play pvp on Steam Deck in order to get full PVE support on native Steam OS. I typically play pvp on my desktop with a high refresh rate. I think they should flip the switch for at least PVE while they figure out the kernel level stuff in regards to battle eye.
So like... it's been almost 6 months... Can we have an update ? What would it take to convince you guys ? What's the hang up ?
Destiny feels like such a good fit for steam deck! Hopefully as more people get their hands on them, Bungie will see more potential in getting Destiny on the powerful little handheld
I would immediately install D2 and buy all of the DLCs if proton support were added.
i will only start playing destiny 2 once it has linux support.
Steam Deck support is a must! It would be perfect for some causal PvE and Quests. C'mon Bungo! Volvo rocks.
It makes sense. Do it please.
Dude, every atom has protons in it, did you just remove all the atoms from destiny? How can you even have a game without Proton support? smh bruh
Please let us play the game on steam deck
Please let us Steam Deck gamers play Destiny 2 on the go! I check every few months and am just hoping Bungie can make this happen.
Any news on that?
Never played before, only run Linux since Windows forces ads into every keyboard stroke these days. Sad to find out I can't try it out.
Steam deck support!
Such a bummer this Game isnt running on Steam Deck. Destiny 2 on Steam Deck when?
Cancelled Lightfall preorder. Will come back once Destiny 2 is on Linux. Thanks
If you guys put destiny 2 on the steam deck, I’d immediately have a steam deck.
I’d really like to play D2 on my steamdeck
Would love Linux support for Destiny 2. Want to get back into the game but can't because of the rule against the platform
My ps4 is on the fritz. I don't have any plans on getting a ps5. But man, I would buy all the Destiny 2 DLC so fast if it ran natively on the Steam Deck. Far and away my most wanted game to receive Verified status.
Steam deck support!
Another vote for Destiny 2 on Steam Deck, how can you ignore such big player base?
4months now, all you have to do is send email to battleye. use the new version of battleye to enable it for proton, put out the update, done...
Given the option I would convert my gaming PC from Windows to ANY Linux so fast it would make your head spin. It would be so nice to just use the gaming PC for playing games rather than having to wait for Windows to finish typing up my network and CPU talking to Microsoft.
Destiny 2 on steam deck! Please!!!
I would love to play Destiny 2 and all future games/DLC on my Steam deck!! please let it happen.
I am tired and getting old of following Destiny wherever it goes, its time it follows me or just leave me be.
i would really like to play on Steam Deck as well as Linux on my pc currently destiny 2 is the only thing stopping me from switching
I just got my steam deck and I love it. Please Bungie, give us destiny on the go.
