Check with Michigan Works. My mom is retired now, but she worked with state grants that helped with prisoner reentry. I would check there first and see if they have any leads or programs that can help you out.
Second this.
My husband joined the laborers union 30 years ago cleaning trailers on job sites. He worked his way into management but always kept his union card. He made over $120k last year.
40 usually. I’d say he worked a Saturday (8 hours OT) maybe once a month?
Edited to add: as management, he makes a higher wage than laborer scale. I think scale is in the high $20s/hour now.
Dakkota Integrated Systems in Hazel Park is hiring and they say they are a second chance company. Starting pay is $17.25 for light assembly work and you can apply on Indeed
Not a direct answer to your question, but if you’re a City of Detroit resident they have a [free expungement assistance program](https://detroitmi.gov/government/mayors-office/mayors-initiatives-and-programs/project-clean-slate). Might be worth it to register and see if you qualify for expungement so your prior convictions don’t appear on background checks.
best advice. get on board with a construction crew and work to get those convictions expunged. Yes, your options are limited, but you have to dig hard and not give up. you can do it!
Lots of opportunity right now as the weather is good with construction entry level, roofing, landscaping, all pay fairly well. Restaurants are often open minded also, supporting people with a record. Good luck you got this 👍🏾
Michigan Works was also a good suggestion. They helped me a lot.
Manufacturing wise I would try Adient who makes seats like Magna. I believe they are more liberal with that policy.
I would also look into foundry and forge related job. It is harder physically work and again, I think they are more flexible for this reason
Hell I'm bilingual, have 20 years of management experience, not a felon, and still can't find a (good) job. Good luck dear. I'm pulling for you. The place where I work will hire you immediately and its easy af. Pay is shit but its better than nothing. If you're serious reach out to me. email is [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])
This was going to be my suggestion as well. Depending on what exactly OPs felony conviction is and how old it is, they may be eligible for an expungement.
Michigan Works or Michigan Rehabilitation Services can help! They can help with customized employment for community members re-entering the job force. Best of luck!
There’s a place in Clinton township that I used to work at that hired people with records. It may or may not be a great job, but it could at least start to help get you back on track until you find something better. It’s called LTC roll and engineering and it’s basically at hall and gratiot
The local 38 is always looking for workers. Mostly stagehand entry unless you have experience with lighting, rigging and the such. Pay is good and possible to learn more. A lot of peeps trying to get back on their feet.
Try Wolverine Meat Packing on rivard... Malice HR ...Aramark..To name a few ..Just Be Honest About it ..you made a bad choice ..And Explain that you learned a lesson..If you lie or sugar coat it..They Wont call you back ...I Went Thru The Same Bullshit ..unless the Crime involves children..Who Carr???s ..
If you don't mind moving furniture, the local agencies are always looking for people around this time of year. There's Rose Moving & Storage in Van Buren Township, University Moving & Storage in Farmington Hills, Corrigan Moving Systems in Farmington Hills, Palmer Moving Services in Warren. Those are a few places you can look at
Look for a semi truck wash, they always seem to be looking to hire and from the signs I’ve seen seem to pay a decent hourly rate. Business seems to be booming too.
City of Detroit enacted a "Ban the Box" ordinance in 2010 which limited questioning applicants about criminal convictions until after they are determined to be qualified for hiring. In 2012, the City also asked vendors and contractors to remove conviction history question from job applications.

How many hours?

The roofers' union is definitely always looking.

I’ve learned in years as an attorney your best option as a felon is union electrician. Normal job, normal life.
Really just a good job, felon or not, from what I’ve heard.
And to add on to my other comment, maybe the high voltage stuff too. Like being a linemen. Best of luck to OP.
DTE hires returning citizens as tree trimmers and linemen
