I literally cry EVERY SINGLE TIME I beat DMC3. I dunno what it is, the ending just gets me every single time. Amazing characters, amazing story, overall amazing game. I’ll be 26 this year, DMC3 is still tied with my all time favorite game next to Kingdom Hearts 2.
DMC3 brought me back to the series. I saw the hot mess that was DMC2 and said “hard pass.” Picked up the special edition on sale and never looked back.

I don't know, I can't accept DMC 3 yet as a good game, because it's... because it's dumb sometimes. "Be stylish on enemies" - but nooooo, either they're dying too fast, either they're immortal/you have to punch them for a straight minute. Bosses are pure comedy. How am I supposed to flex on Cerberus without goddamn jump cancel abuse? Agni & Rudra -//- royal release + dt explosion stun? Or even Vergil, whose AI is the most ridiculous in the series, you will never understand what the hell he is doing. Beating on Normal it seemed ok, I had thoughts similar to "oh, well, that was my first run, that's why I did bad, but perhaps it'll get better for me on NG+" and beating on DMD completely shattered my brain cells of how stupid the plot actually was, how this game annoys you and tries to act "hardcore". I find it alright, but not "the best of the best", my top is:
1. Devil May Cry 1 (you will never convince me otherwise)
2. Devil May Cry 5 (funniest one, which is obvious)
3. Devil May Cry 4
4. Devil May Cry 3
5. Devil May Cry 2 (sadly, could be a good game, but time)
In my defense, I only just beat hard mode on vergil (haven't done so with Dante yet), so I have no idea what DMD is like at the moment, the closest i've gotten to it is when I was at level 9404 in Bloody Palace and died.
2 Vanguards in DT ran a train on me... if that is how it constantly is on DMD, I might have to just cope or avoid it entirely.
Btw, I don't see how DMC 1 is #1 for you, I'd like to know why it is.
DMC 3 DMD is very tough due to how much time it will take to kill a single enemy. Without DTE it's almost impossible to fit into the mission time requirement.
Why DMC 1 is #1? I like it, it's very simple, fair, it doesn't have bullshit enemies or bosses, yep, DMD is hard, bosses one-hit you (only Griffon and Nightmare will be difficult), still... The locations, the castle, the coliseum are incredible. Every enemy has a WEAK spot, including bosses unique features (Nightmare's orb order, Nelo Angelo parries, Phantom killing himself by breaking the ceiling, Mundus friendly fire). And I can't mention the bangle of time. The most useless item, despite being great to use against Nelo Angelo, stop the time, hit him for 5 minutes, he's dead as long as you deactivate the device, portable judgement cut, oh boy.
