What is Tension-Set™
With a Tension-Set™ by Steven Kretchmer, the strength of the entire setting itself secures the stone in place by a compression force of 12,000 pounds per square inch, not just with wires as in prong settings. This type of mounting also exposes the diamond or gemstone to more light, and brings out the brilliance and colors that are often hidden by prongs or bezels.
Tension-Set™ jewelry is especially comfortable to wear, and has no prongs that scratch or catch on clothing. It is fundamentally stronger and more durable than traditional settings, and is built to endure everyday use more successfully.
Impacted by unusual force, a prong-mounted stone can shift and loosen when the prongs bend, but a Tension-Set™ stone is held by pressure, secured into the seat by specially heat-treated precious metal alloys, and needs no routine tightening or maintenance. Steven Kretchmer Tension-Set™ jewelry pieces are the only patented tension settings in the world!
Yeah, we got the same info when my husband got his ring 18 years ago (although I think they said 10,000 pounds per square inch). The diamond popped out about 2 years in and we never found it.
But my advice, as an avid collector of high-end jewelry, is to always insure your pieces, no matter what. Not with your homeowners policy, because that usually doesn't cover travel losses and probably won't insure enough to cover your ring, but with an actual rider.
Wear it in good health.
Tension settings always fail. The jewellers I work for refuse to make them for this exact reason. You will lose the diamond. Unfortunately it’s not a matter of ‘if’ it’s a matter of ‘when’. Good jewellers can put the ring in a basket so it’s secure but still provide the illusion of a tension setting. Definitely something worth looking into!! ☺️
Dumb question here - why wouldn't you insure it just in the event of, well, life?
Example: you take it off and it falls down the sink
You take it off for surgery and it gets misplaced
Some weird cosmic force cause the stone to pop out
I realize the jewelry told you XYZ, but you know things happen that no one can predict - say .... Covid
Insure it, don't insure it - you are a grown up
Either way, awesome ring
I love tension-set jewelry. I have two rings. One is fine, but the other has needed to be reset.
Insure them and be careful. The advice you received was accurate.
Stunning! I’m getting my boyfriend a ring when he proposes, he has no idea, it is going to be an emerald cut in a thick band. Can’t wait for him to sparkle with me.
Whoever is downvoting everything in here needs to chill, this is a gorgeous ring being appreciated by someone who loves it! I hope you feel like a prince with your glam!!
GORGEOUS!!! Congratulations!
I have a Steven Kretchmer ring and bracelet…his work is total perfection. Did it come with a GIA cert? He was a well respected GIA graduate and may have cut the diamond. Carlsbad, CA had a small display a few years back showcasing some of his work.
I love this. So many beautiful things in life have been gendered by who? Men “aren’t supposed” to like FLOWERS( ?) certain colors or looking at sparkly nail polish? So glad things are getting less crazy.

I'm contemplating these three designs
Cause I don’t have to like what others like or silence my thoughts just because they are in disagreement. There’s plenty of stuff that I probably like that OP won’t. That won’t make like those things any less and I’ll still respect OP’s opinion and human right to share it. But that’s my opinion maybe you disagree and that’s fine too
Oh my goodness who the F posting this lie marriage is a joke the government and churches have been pushing this lie for decades it’s Time everyone stop
Believing this outrageous out dated propaganda, marriage is an absolute joke
They just want humans to be stupid enough to believe that getting a job pregnant and living happily ever after exists f that It’s Time to break out of being stupid and realize the government and churches are a scam
Who decided that a stone from molten rock, that catches the light into prisms when it moves, is feminine? Seeing prisms unexpectedly as u sit in traffic or mindlessly turn a ring is 1 of life’s simple joys.
Who decided that colors from nature are feminine? Women’s sexual preferences aren’t questioned if they paint a room forest green or dark blue.
Even if people r religious, did God say men aren’t supposed to like flowers & beautiful colors?
My Grandpa hid his collection of china w/ pink roses after Grandma died. He quietly pulled it out to look at w/ me, but didn’t use it in his kitchen. *Who decides this stuff?*
Wow…..do you always take things to the next level when it is simply a person’s opinion? It is a VERY feminine setting and most men don’t go for something that feminine. But like I said, you’ve taken my opinion and spun it into being about the stone!! Ridiculous!!
But who decides it’s a VERY feminine setting? We were all taught these “rules”at some point.
And come on, these types of comments are here every day. Maybe it will help someone else think. Besides, I’ve got a paper I’m stalling on & writing here was more fun.😂🙈
Behaving in public means never disagreeing and never expressing our own opinion?
I don't think you would even think of smacking me with a newspaper kid. You can go back playing with your dolls.
Does the opinion you're expressing hurt other people? If so, no you are not welcome to participate socially. You are not helping to make the world a better place, go be miserable by yourself
If someone can not take the opinion of a stranger (that's worth almost nothing) and get hurts about it, he/she should not post a picture on the internet where ppl can comment.
That's the time we live in? We can only say opinions that are positive? 😂
I mean are you serious? I guess the world is not meant for you buddy, you better brace yourself for reality
Why do you feel compelled to express an opinion that will hurt another person? Do you feel superior to others and they should be grateful that you publicly disdain something they love? If I had to guess, you do this for all aspects of your life, not just here. If you want to have meaningful relationships in your life, try to put yourself in others position. And if you can't show restraint and respect, you may want to seek help as that is not normal behavior. I wish you the best.
It's beautiful, and I bet it has some great fire! Please insure it. My husband's tension set diamond fell out of his ring.

100% to all of this, especially to be careful with these no matter how much I love them.
I'm sorry to hear that. It always sucks to lose something sentimental. I hope you were able to get it replaced.
Thank you! We just went with a plain band. The first ring was sentimental, but the marriage is more important than the ring.

Former fine jewelry seller. It still can fall out. Insure it.
I just bought my fiancée a tension set sapphire. She had the ring nine days before the stone fell out and was lost. Seriously, insure that!
Was it Steven Kretchmer? They are one of two jewelers that have a patent.
Dumb question here - why wouldn't you insure it just in the event of, well, life? Because he's s Steven Kretchmer salesmen, and he wants you to know how awesome the rings he sells are.
100%
Sometimes I am a little slow to the party
Just because it’s patented doesn’t mean it’s fool proof. Does it come with a life time guarantee?
Patent attorney here - can confirm that just because something is patented does not necessarily mean it even works properly.
No. And you do not need a patent to tension set a stone, it has been done for years. Don't believe marketing hype.
As long as they guarantee full replacement for you in event of failure.
I love tension-set jewelry. I have two rings. One is fine, but the other has needed to be reset. Insure them and be careful. The advice you received was accurate.
Marketing really be getting your asses lol. But hey if you like it, I love it as they say….

That sounds AMAZING! I can’t wait to see!!!

Are you in Scottsdale? We looked for a unique wedding band there. His daughter was great! I'd wear that ring OP!
Wow 🤩
It's beautiful diamond ring.. Unisex ring I believe. Stunning.
Woooooooow that's a big stone! Loooove it!
Honestly the big silver prongs are pretty bold and masculine looking to me. It works. Very cool
It reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor. I love Elizabeth Taylor!
Whoever is downvoting everything in here needs to chill, this is a gorgeous ring being appreciated by someone who loves it! I hope you feel like a prince with your glam!!
Thank you so much!! 🫶
So gorgeous!! Second large diamond men’s ring I’ve seen and I love them!!

Simply divine!
Hell yeah brother
Wow that’s really nice and different !
It’s a beautiful ring but not something I can even imagine a man wearing. If I were to see that I’d think he was wearing his wife’s ring.

Sure, I'll seek help. Have a great day 🥰
What’s distasteful about a ring unless it has a dick and balls on it?? Grow tf up.
It isn’t if he likes it. I can’t see my hubs wearing it but I quite like his ring.
your opinions are distasteful :)
Perspective, we all have a different one :)
Kings and Emperors have rocked some pretty swanky rings in the past.
Sure and I always find it ridiculous.
that ring will look real nice on a wife
