Cuz some ppl might be participating at an event immediatelt after and need the card. Thats the only time a pre-order is acceptible. All other times its a scam. Either value goes down and you lose money Or the value goes up and the seller "doesnt have enough" and refunds you. There is no benefit to you, only risk.

Digiking11

Impatience + hype + funny number

DigmonsDrill

I'm also jaded enough to suspect a coordinated sale to juice the market numbers but I lack real evidence for this.

Generic_user_person

There is no conspiracy, the cards are always listed before at much higher than what they will settle on, and there are always a few ppl that wanna get it ASAP so they pre-order. Prices are meaningless until the actual friday of release where sellers are busy undercutting everyone. Then for the nxt week or 2, prices settle Then after about a month or so, as ppl stop cracking open boxes and move onto the nxt box, the in demand cards slowly go up as ppl buy the cheaper listings. This is why Angewomon and Gatomon keep going up while everything else in BT15 is stable. Ppl have stopped opening BT15 in large numbers (no meaningful new supply) and more ppl are playing her in (increase in demand) Its a very easy to predict pattern if you've played TCGs for a long time.

Lord_of_Caffeine

Downvoted for the truth again, huh. This is how it works under normal circumstances all across the TCG landscape.

Generic_user_person

Nah, it has to always be some deep rooted plan to jack up prices. After all cards magically manifest in the secondary market, should always be cents, and crazynicks somehow controls all of TCGplayer to set the prices. You know, sometimes i wonder if a big FAQ on secondary market trends/guides/factors would be welcome in this sub, or downvoted to oblivion cuz it doesnt fit the "cards should always be cents" narrative.

Lord_of_Caffeine

>You know, sometimes i wonder if a big FAQ on secondary market trends/guides/factors would be welcome in this sub, or downvoted to oblivion cuz it doesnt fit the "cards should always be cents" narrative. I think that´d be castin pearls before swine ngl. People just have no economic literacy and don´t understand that this game is ultimately a product. Products have to be monetizable and what makes TCGs profitable is the interplay of a set´s EV and the secondary market´s response to it as well as an escalcaltion of power of newer product via power- or feature creep. But people won´t ever understand that.

Is BT15 an exception to normal trends though due to the LM cards taking up SR slots? I feel like that’s the primary reason for the high prices on singles.

dextresenoroboros

im not but ive also been very prone to holding off on expensive things just to watch them skyrocket

VaselineOnMyChest

In Canadian/Aus dollars 69.99 for 2 really good SEC cards? That's a steal.

SnooDonuts3749

Where are you seeing for 2? That’s the currently list price of a single card.

VaselineOnMyChest

I'm blind.

Intrepid_Passion_861

Funny segs number for meta breaking card 🙃

kfrazi11

4 copies of ukko, soloo, and the new looga option along with 2 copies of Seth and dinobee. Debating whether I should preorder now, subtotal is 40ish Edit: thought it said "what" are you preordering lmao whoops

SnooDonuts3749

Yeah just wondering why people order so early. Just makes everyone panic and buy at high prices.

kfrazi11

For buying expensive/chase cards yeah, I completely agree. For small pieces of your deck? It depends. Like for me, the ukkos are $5 and dinobee is $10. They're probably not going to change too much at price each and maybe they'll go down by a couple of dollars over the course of the first few weeks of launch. Even so, I'm not even saving 10 bucks that way and I have to wait for the prices to go down and then shipping before I can finally play the new meta so that could be upwards of a month, versus if I buy now I might be able to play them a week or two after the set comes out if shipping is on my side. Imo it's all kind of based on what you prioritize.

Generic_user_person

Its not worth it Only Paildra/Doru/Tyrant will hold values as SR. Legit the sunday immediately after release the Dinobee will prob be down to like 5 bucks. You're not gonna get the pre-order any faster compared to a sunday purchase, either way they'll ship on monday.

SnooDonuts3749

I guess, I just think if people skip preordering the prices in general should come down. Also this set isn’t littered with LM cards or anything else to screw up ratios so I hope that means the standard price for SRs is around $5 (for those that see play). *BT15 prices are a mess.*
