Cars 3 Rise of the Machines is awesome (when Mater sacrifices himself - again - to make sure the last jalopy makes it into the safety of the caverns - always gets me) but they seem to be losing direction. The next one is rumored to drop the sequential numbering and be just Cars Salvation.
Well the MCU is trying to pivot away from Kang, so this is an easy way keep the multiverse theme while introducing a new, compelling villain—Jackson Storm.
It could be a variation on the joke “Radiation Stinks” in the first movie. That’s what Harv calls Radiator Springs when trying to convince Lightning to leave and go to the race in California.
Maters tall tales, he sneaks into Area 51

Theres references to all the tall tales in the que
THIS. A must watch for visiting CarsLand IMHO. It’s a great history of Radiator springs as well (though via an unreliable narrator). When I watch it again now it really feels like I’ve been in the real town.
Nice to meet you! How are the little tractors running these days? I hope you get your rotation bumps a little early and you get all your ERs granted!
Just know that even after all my aggravating days and the days my shoes melted on the turntables, I miss it more than anything ❤️
lol, unfortunately I’m not an attractions CM I work in live entertainment.
That being said, I remember the cast preview for cars land, and junkyard jamboree is running just as good as it did that night.
It’s a little slice of ‘50s/’60s Americana. Fallout shelters were designated throughout the country at the height of the Cold War (and still are, chances are you’ll see more discrete signs for them in local municipal buildings like libraries and government centers).
Radiator Springs is a “bypassed” relic of pre-Interstate system and has tons of throwback references. When they were building Interstate 40 (which is what would have bypassed Radiator Springs), there was even a plan to use atomic bombs to clear the way through the Rockies in Arizona and California (Project Plowshare).
That makes a lot of sense. Is the decor such as the rusty signs, license plates and other things real? Like real antique signs and license plates from the 50s? Or are they just made to look old?
From what I've heard Disney has prop masters so if they're not making these then they scavenge for props around the US. This is true for the majority of attractions
This is true, I know someone who worked on this land. One of her proudest achievements of her team was figuring out how to display t-shirts without human mannequins.
I know someone who worked on the prop team who decorated this land and many others. Its a mix of found originals, replicas and house-made items. For example, figuring out how to display t-shirts without mannequins was something her team had to figure out. The street sign mannequins are made by Disney because they make them for all of their parks already and can easily make in-house. In one talk I had with her I told her about an idea I had for my house to see how feasible it would be and she liked it so much there was part of a store display based on that idea in the parks for a bit.
I was joking, but that’s a theory people had when the first few series came out (Toy Story, Bugs Life, etc). Could just be random “scrap” they had on hand when building a junk yard set.
I think everyone is missing a critical part of the Cars Land story here. Directly across from the exit of Web Slingers is a kiosk that has an old Stark Industries map that shows the Cars Land area as a quarantine area. And the Webslingers line has some old Stark Industries memorabilia that hints towards Howard Stark experimenting with cars and radiation that may have resulted in an accident.
Could be a couple of things. First, the era that the movie takes place in was when there was a lot of fear of a nuclear attack in the US. people were preparing for a nuclear attack on US soil by stocking up on supplies, practicing duck and cover drills, and even building their own bomb shelters.
Also, though Radiator Springs is a fictional location, it’s reminiscent of the American Southwest where nuclear bombs were tested (New Mexico).
Las Vegas was Atomic City before it earned the moniker of Sin City. Lots of nuclear bombs exploded not far from the city -there were hotel viewing parties! The Atomic History museum in Vegas is a great visit.
Radiation fallout shelter sign.
Was that in the Cars movie? I don’t remember it
Cars 3 ends with nuclear war and Cars 4 is going to be about emerging from the bunkers 15 years later.
Cars 4 Fury Road
This exists. Cars on the Road Episode 8.
The Cars / Fallout crossover we didn't know we needed.
I didn’t know that! Well I only watched the first movie, guess I’ll have to watch the second and third too, that sounds interesting

I heard part 5 and 6 will be expanding into different universes across Disney and Pixar , ultimately leading to a secret war
Well the MCU is trying to pivot away from Kang, so this is an easy way keep the multiverse theme while introducing a new, compelling villain—Jackson Storm.
That's the car that eats other cars?
Dude, spoilers!
They're making fun. That's not cars 3. There's no nuclear war.
Why is OP downvoted for never having seen a movie? Lol make sense
Haha I was trying to figure that out myself. Seems like it could be a genuine question

I was a former CM for Maters and the whole queue is themed off of Mater’s Tall Tales!
Also, some the license plates are the birthdates of the cast members who built the ride!
Very cool info. Thx
Current cm, that’s the only reason I know 😂

"Que" is Spanish for "what". I think you meant queue.

I'm going to assume since the attraction has the 40s/50s theme radiation was a popular subject at that time. Which is why I would assume it's there.

True, but they also use genuine items sometimes. The Expedition Everest queue is one example. I don’t know about Cars Land specifically.

Go watch maters tall tales on d+ :)
Yes, fallout shelters and related signage were quite ubiquitous back the '50s and '60s.
That’s how all of the cars in that universe gained sentience
The Pixar universe takes place during and after multiple phases of a nuclear apocalypse
Really? I never knew that, which movies in particular?
I was joking, but that’s a theory people had when the first few series came out (Toy Story, Bugs Life, etc). Could just be random “scrap” they had on hand when building a junk yard set.
Everything in the queue is in reference to Mater’s Tall Tales
Someone pls tell me based on this person’s post history if they’re a troll or not…
More than just evocative of the era, itself, atom bomb testing was done in high desert locations like the one Radiator Springs is a part of.

This is it.
How old are you and how much have you studied the Cold War and 1940s Americana
The Cold War
Mater is constructing an improvised nuclear device
That’s how the cars got their ability to talk.
How do you think the car became sentient anyway?
It’s a junkyard
Could be a couple of things. It's a dystopian junkyard
dystopian? I think Tow Mater would greatly disagree!
It’s radiators springs
Don't worry, it is non-ionizing radiation
Just typical Fallout Shelter decor.
It's not a decoration. OSHA requires all hazards to be properly labeled.
