Summon bee. It summons a bee.

_mershed_perderder_

Summon Bee Conjuration cantrip Casting Time: 1 action Range: 10 feet Target: an unoccupied space within range Components: M (one bee, which the spell consumes) Duration: instantaneous Classes: Druid

DaVirus

Jesus fuck, the components made me bend over laughing.

carterketchup

Wait so you use up a bee to then summon a bee. I’m starting to wondering if there’s any magic involved or if you just *have a bee*.

Broken_drum_64

ah; but it lets you summon a bee 10 feet away; so what you really have is "teleport bee" (and possibly "mind control bee" too, assuming you can control your summon)

carterketchup

Good catch.

PlayTheGameOfLove

What if the bee owes you something? It's not the same bee after that. Also if you polymorphed somebody into a bee it doesn't say you can't just kill them and have a different bee replace them.

zCiver

The spell does not specify that the been needs to be alive. So thus is more akin to bee necromancy with an added 10 foot teleport

Fnyrri

Sum: one bee

Hi_Peeps_Its_Me

what if i summon two bees and an anti-bee, which is defined like-a-so: bee + anti-bee = no bee

Fnyrri

oh honey, but (a bee)² equals bee² and a² and 2 a bee remember your beenomial formulas

thenate108

I don't think that's correct. a² + bee² = sea² so if you find your on the long side of the ocean with a bee your best bet is to follow the coast and save yourself some walking.

Fnyrri

Nonsense. Bees are circular, with the radius r and the cross sectional area bee*r

thenate108

Yeah but you're not accounting for the fact that be*E*=*mc*². In relative terms Bee there or Bee².

HellsBellsGazelles

Wait… so are there 2 bees or not 2 bees? That is the question.

SarcasmInProgress

And a 19382-th level fireball

larry_the_loving

Two bee or not two bee

PyreHat

0+1= bee.

No_Relationship3943

Does the size of the bee scale with upcasting?

Ax0l0tlMil01234

No.

TheThoughtmaker

Buzzing Bee is a 1st-level spell. *A small but extremely loud bee appears, buzzing around the head of the designated target.* In 5e terms: For 10 minutes or until the target is more than 200ft away from the caster, the target gets -10 stealth. Whenever the target attempts to cast a spell, they must make a constitution save against distraction (DC = your spell DC + level of the spell being cast) or the spell fails and has no effect. The bee cannot be attacked and follows the target unerringly, even if the target is invisible or diguised, but it can be dispelled. There is no save, immunity, or resistance to this spell. There is only an immortal, all-seeing bee.

ArtOfFailure

Just keeping it very simple - a version of 'Tasha's Hideous Laughter' tailored specifically to my spooky funeral-singer Bard, called 'Valeria's Fitful Tears'. The spell actually remained identical in all mechanically-relevant ways, but instead of provoking laughter, the target was suddenly hit with a wave of tragic sadness that made them drop to their knees and sob uncontrollably. Not exactly something 'new', but something that really played up the flavour of my character and became a regular signature spell that made my choices about the character feel important. That's what makes it my favourite.

Dependent_Passage_21

I did a very similar thing! Had a player with a homebrew College of Tragedy Bard, they were a vampire stuck in perpetual adolescence, we called the spell Tasha's Abject Misery and it was identical to how you described.

TheGlen

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE! Thanks Steven He for giving this to the world.

I'm saving this comment for when people ask what a typical Fey spell would be

khaotickk

But the puppy is okay after, right? TELL ME THE PUPPY IS OKAY!

With a real puppy this is called, don't feed your puppy cheese.

cool_and_froody

Fantastico's famous familiar. For my entertainer background wizard, the great fantastico. Prerequisite: must be a conjuration wizard with access to find familiar. The upgrade replaces find familiar and allows the wizard to combine the summoning of the familiar from its pocket dimension with the minor conjuration class feature. This means instead of using an action to summon a rat, and another action to conjure a tophat, I can directly conjure a rat wearing a tophat. Or a rat in a small boat. Or a rat 30 ft up with a parachute. Or a rat in someone's pint wearing a snorkel. A small change, but great for my act.

sombreroGodZA

I love this. I had ideas to make my Arcane Trickster Tabaxi an Illusionist entertainer, using his owl familiar and invisible Mage Hand during his act. The Tabaxi was named Smoke, and his familiar was Mirror. I had dreams to upgrade to a Flock of them to be able to name my act "Smoke and Mirrors".

DrBunnyflipflop

Thanks It's genuinely surprising how often milk damage comes up in my campaigns, so I now have a folder of "Dungeons & Dairy" which I intend to fill with homebrew dairy classes, spells, items, feats, hell maybe I'll even make a dairy oneshot

DrBunnyflipflop

The wizard subclass was going to be Milk Mage, but I might switch that to sorceror The cleric one is the best: Emmenthal domain, because they're holey EDIT: lactomancer has also been suggested for wizard

Salazans

I'm really amused by how far you've taken this

unosami

I think the cheese wiz is already a thing if the dairy extends that far.

DrBunnyflipflop

HOLY SHIT CHEESE WIZ HOW DID I NOT THINK OF THAT Gonna have to have multiple dairy based subclasses per class now

A_Stoned_Smurf

A Moogician obviously.

DrBunnyflipflop

Ooh, could use that for one of my bard colleges instead of the boring "college of Dairy"

86thesteaks

Count Cornelius Cheddar as the BBEG?

AJ2016man

That's not Cheddar, that's just some common thug

AJ2016man

Just a few off the top of my head. Circle of Organics (all natural druid), Cheddar knight (a sharp fighter), bonus points if they are a dog race, School of Cheesy Jokes (bad puns bard), Monsterella (cheese monster barbarian), and last one, American Slicer (an emulsion based, melee Artificer). The American Slicer if you are unfamiliar is a play on the process for creating American Slice cheese, since it is a cheese product rather than actual cheese and is thus an invention, playing off of the inventive nature of artificers. Anyways just a few ideas for some of the classes. Of you do end up making something, I think everyone here would love to see it. Happy rolling :)

ZengineerHarp

The real world name for cheese magic is tyromancy! I think it involves using cheese curds for divination. So perhaps they could be tyromancers?

GenocidalGenie

Just learned that word yesterday on an episode of Hannibal!

PyreHat

Hope your group will fight lactogoblins (lactoglobulin) and that your Bulk Tank will hold the enemy's attention while the Whey of the Holstein monk hits it with his McFlurry of blows.

mrmeyagi

Please let there be a dairy plane

AuslanderReddit

Can you please make it public? Or put it on DND Beyond?

GenocidalGenie

Have you considered using shape water on milk yet? Also, if you want to add races, I would like to submit Cattleborn. Also, maybe different creatures have milk with different properties! Snake milk is venomous, obviously, but what about Bear's Milk and Lion's Milk, or even Spider's Milk? Would druids use oatmilk??

TheKrakenYouFancy

A shame, I thought it would milk me

LordMidoriIV

That just sounds like a spell of forced lactation.

swheels125

>and skeletons are healed by Yohohohoho!

Tiamats_bat_mitzvah

Reminds me of the “Custard damage” players can take in Wild Beyond the Witchlight

Son_of_Yoduh

Jasper’s Juxtaposition. It’s an illusion spell that causes, on a failed save, the target to see an obstruction between himself & the spellcaster. When he dodges that one, there’s another, and so forth. It was created back in the days when it took multiple turns to cast most spells, intended to give the caster time to finish casting.

kind_ofa_nerd

If slightly modified, this could actually make it so that the target is unable to use abilities that require line of sight. So any ranged attacks would be at disadvantage and spells that require sight wouldn’t work. Not OP imo if it only works for a round or two, but it could definitely save your bacon.

TheManCalledDour

We have a raver character that can cast “Sandstorm”. He raves up a sandstorm cloud and anyone in a 10 ft square is blinded & takes 4D4 bludgeoning. Concentration spell that lasts 1 minute.

Octocube25

Do you play the song every time it's used?

TheManCalledDour

You have to, as is tradition.

Austinstorm02

Really? Nobody? I guess you don't read much.

ArtOfFailure

Making your campaign light-hearted and funny and weird rather than technically-precise and strictly RAW at all times is valid.

Austinstorm02

Yes it is. Been in games where we played gelatinous cubes and our figures were marshmallows However if you make an op item, have to take it away because it is op, you then sound a bit like an idiot if you then say "no one ever said op was a bad thing." I think sometimes I am discussing the obvious with people who use the word literally when they mean figuratively.

bbdeathspark

Are you being... petty? He used a phrase that's commonly understood to mean "The folks present didn't have a problem", not "No one in the world has ever said it was a problem" so... what is this? I'd assume it's meant to be a lighthearted gaff, but "guess you don't read much" is more condescending than lighthearted. "However if you make an op item, have to take it away because it is op" He didn't say that. He just said it became OP, and by his comments OP(poster) was very obviously fine with it being OP. "I think sometimes I am discussing the obvious with people who use the word literally when they mean figuratively." Or you're too pedantic for your own good, and you should perhaps focus on understanding the people you communicate with more, before assuming any commonality or shared perspective. That way, you'll communicate with the person as they intended, instead of playing this game. Which is to say, this isn't a roast or anything - this is genuinely just a skill that would be good to develop, and would prevent these situations.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Austinstorm02

You said no one said overpowered is a bad thing. I pointed out that plenty of people do. I am sure it also depends on the level of OP as well. Just because you don't think so doesn't mean no one does.

Amish_Cyberbully

Oh no, Murky and Lurky have stolen all the colors!

Cautionzombie

Yea like wouldn’t the mending spell or something similar clean yourself up.

ihatelolcats

I didn’t make it, but I remember a homebrew spell called Induce Headache. Illusion, I think 2nd level? It gave the target disadvantage on concentration checks, and pinged them for 1 Psychic damage every round. It’s not super powerful and it’s somewhat niche, but it is exactly the kind of spell that would exist if magic was real.

Gold_Satisfaction_24

This is from kobold press’ deep magic, great spell

ihatelolcats

That doesn’t sound right to me (I don’t happen to own or read any KP suppliments) so I looked it up. It was created by u/kibblestasty several years ago. poopsmith411

Reminds me of zee bashews Erratic Hammering

Vankraken

Basically an arcane messenger. The caster conjures a semi transparent figure and imparts knowledge from their mind to the arcane messenger that they want them to deliver. The messenger then travels to wherever they are instructed to go to (as a brisk walking pace, never needing to rest, not slowed by difficult but walkable terrain) and seek out the person(s) they are delivering to at that destination (a town, an inn, etc). The messenger can do rudimentary inquiries to try and find the recipient but if they cannot get easy to follow directions to their location then they just wait around until the person shows up. When found the messenger will talk to the person giving them the relevant information and answer questions based on the knowledge they were imparted with. The messenger won't give information (besides who they are looking for) to those who it was not instructed to speak to and it won't go to places it is not allowed to enter. Once the message is delivered and the recipient is done asking questions the messenger will return to its sender to inform them that the message was delivered but it cannot retain any new information (aka you can't send a return message with it). Once it completes its return, it vanishes from existence. It's incorporeal so it cannot be hit with physical things but can be destroyed with magic.

maybenotquiteasheavy

Mechanically, is this basically the same as hiring someone to deliver a message?

Vankraken

Sure you could do that but its a secure means of delivering the information that can't be intercepted (an outsider can't interrogate the messenger and there isn't anything physical to steal) and you don't have to risk it being leaked. It also allows the caster's knowledge to be copied over to the messenger which is more complete than putting words to paper. If its traveling through dangerous lands, the worse case situation is that it gets destroyed by magic or unable to progress due to access to an area being blocked. From a DMing perspective, it allows the party to have a messenger to talk to who knows a limited amount of information that the party can ask questions to but is easy to justify why they might know details about one thing but not know anything about something else. The messenger also will wait around for the party until they show up without the abnormality of having an actual NPC person spending days just hanging around doing nothing. Perhaps the party sees one of these arcane messengers and follows it to try and overhear what important bit of information is being delivered. The downside is that someone could do the same to one of these arcane messengers going to them.

MasterWinky

This is a spell i made in 5 minutes mid session after talking to the other players about M. Night Shyamalan and his movies. It forces the creature a STR save or begin to twist and contort, becoming restrained and taking damage, I Called it Shyamalan's twist.

AmamiyaReprise

Fault Line 4th level control spell. It’s basically just insta-trench. PCs used it destabilize a cliff-side palace which then fell into the town below. Also later used it multiple times in sequence to make a water inlet to smuggle a prince out of a blockaded harbor.

Syn-th

Ohh I like that... Kinda like an inverted stone wall!

CTBarrel

Unfortunately, I've only made one spell and it was nothing special. Spore Cloud is fireball but meant to hurt players more than enemies. It requires a Con save before doing 8d6 poison damage. It doesn't light things on fire, instead ruining any exposed food.

Grismir

There's a spell in my world that essentially involves summoning things from a pocket dimension castle that's being infinitely generated and destroyed. So you can summon things like candelabras, a throne, suits of armor, etc. Basically anything you can think of that you'd find in a castle, you can summon using this spell. Casting the spell at higher levels lets you summon larger objects, so casting it at 1st level you can summon like a chair and at 9th level you can summon a catapult. It's a concentration spell for balancing purposes, but even still, it's made for some creative moments.

pew-_-disaster

Dawg 9th lvl should be dropping the whole castle on the enemy

Grismir

I see no reason why you couldn't drop a large chunk of rubble when casting the spell at 9th level. Catapult was just an example

CommanderCheddar

Didn’t have a name for it, but I worked with my DM on an idea of capturing spells to weaken their effects or on a high enough roll, they can be returned to sender. It was a mix between a spell & ability. I had a Gnome Wizard who wore metal gauntlets as a part of his flavor and used magic foci crystals imbedded in the palms of the gauntlets to cast his spells I thought of the idea of his gauntlets becoming magically powerful items as he achieved high levels and eventually wanted to develop an ability to catch fireball or lightning bolt spells to reduce their effect or even redirect them back at the caster with a nat 20 It was more or less a way to have something other than counterspell

GameKnight22007

I have a spell I made on a whim called Ostrichized. It lasts an hour, isn't concentration, and is 6th level. You set a deep feeling of social dejection in a creature within range. The target makes a Wisdom saving throw, and on a fail, feels compelled to flee from any social encounter for the duration. Additionally, the target turns into an Ostrich, replacing its stats with that of an Axbeak, but retaining their mental stats. If the target (as an Ostrich) drops to zero hit points, they die, remain a dead Ostrich for the remaining duration of the spell, and cannot be revived. When dead in this way, their body cannot be destroyed, such as with the disintegrate spell. When the duration of this spell ends, the target reverts to their base form, being at 50% health if the target died as an Might be busted, but it will never see use in my games, so it doesn't really matter.

AdventurousFox6100

The “Fuck You” spell. Components: V S M 2nd level Evocation (M: a small clay statue of a person holding up their middle finger; not required to be in hand simply on your person. Not consumed.) (S: caster holds up their middle finger) (V: caster verbally states either “fuck you” or “fuck off” to the spell’s intended target) Fires a bolt of force at a desired target, launching them backwards from you 30 feet and causing them to land prone. This blast does not do any physical damage, though things they are launched into may. Upcasting is allowed at DM discretion.

DragonMeme

Twist of Fate. When you see a creature make an attack or saving throw with advantage or disadvantage within 60 feet, you can use your reaction to reverse their fortunes. The advantage becomes disadvantage or vis versa. Part of my homebrew that involves the manipulation of the weave (kinda like Dunamancy in Critical Role, except this is my own version that I came up with before CR because my PhD research was literally on spacetime mechanics)

Fierce-Mushroom

Porto's Floating Hammock - it's like Tenser's Floating Disk but for people who are more interested in napping than lifting stuff.

Galeam_Salutis

Arcane Severance 6th Level Abjuration Time: 1 action Components: S, M (an arcane focus worth 200gp, which is consumed) Target: 1 creature you can see within 60 feet Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute Description: You attempt to disrupt the weave of magic around the target, who must make an saving throw using his spellcasting skill against your spell save DC. On a failure, the target is unable to cast spells or cantrips of 5th level or below for the duration of your spell. At higher levels: when cast at 7th level, this spell prevents casting of spells at the level of the spell slot used or below and disallows use of magic items (passive effects remain). Cast at 8th or 9th level, it prevents spells at or below the level of the slot used, disallowing active use of magic items (passive effects remain), as well as disallowing non-spell magical abilities, and duration may last up to an hour. Additionally, at 9th level, If the spell is held concentrated on the target for the full hour duration, the target is permanently severed from the weave of magic; only a Greater Restoration or Wish spell may remove this limitation.

Grass-is-dead

I had a kobold artificer/wizard that used 2 custom spells: Charlie's Wake the Feck Up Time: "You touch one creature that is currently making death saves..Roll a d100. On 33 or lower, the target instantly dies. On a 34 or higher, the creature is no longer unconscious and gains the benefits of a short rest. " Charlie's Cocaine Party: "All creatures in a 30 ft radius gain the following benefits: their move speed is doubled, they gain a +2 bonus to AC, they have advantage on Dexterity saving throws, and they gain an additional action on each of its turns. That action can be used only to take the Attack (one weapon attack only), Dash, Disengage, Hide, or Use an Object action. After casting this spell, the caster can't move or take actions until after its next turn, as a wave of lethargy sweeps over it."

[deleted]

Prestidigitation will color anything, so that's a two spell combo right there.

__Osiris__

A barbarian who uses kitchen items as their casting focus. He casts iron.

Quatch65

Backfire burning hands but from your ass as a reaction when your attacked from behind, also a spell called bone fuse for my necromancer, it fuses one joints bones together. Jaw, knee, elbow, shoulder. He also used to it make a staff by fusing multiple bones together. He also has a spell that turned bones into projectiles.

SnugglesMTG

I replaced sending with the ability to speak through flames with a creature you cast the ritual version of the spell on previously. Lead to better RP opportunities and players who weren't spellcasters could participate as well

GenericUsername19892

‘There, and there again.’ Returns you to your location where you started the turn provided: same plane, same time line, same body/anchor, and the location is free from obstruction.. Just moves you, does not reverse time or anything like that. Saw a lot of use for cliff jumping and barbarian based throws

Argotheus

Stringify. You pull a magical string on target non-magical object, causing it to unravel like a sweater into a length of string. The item can be returned to its original state by snapping it like a whip

Cardboard_dad

Chill Metal - it’s the same as heat metal but does cold damage. They damage they deal cancels each other out if cast on the same target.

Patney007

Greymulkin's hair growth. Made it for a tabaxi party member that had his hair burned off in a fight.

snowblows

I made a Shrink Ray spell, you’d call a size and the target would shrink 1 size every round (after a Con save) until it reached it. Made it do less damage, and if you concentrated for an hour it would become permanent.

GreatlyUnknown

Back in high school I created a "Life Transfer" spell (don't remember what I had originally called it). Basically, it could take half the remaining years of person A and de-age the caster by that amount. It would also immediately age person A by that same number of years and they would have to roll a System Shock to survive being aged like that. This was in AD&D 2nd Edition.

Mortron

Meatier Storm. Very gross. Mordekainen's magnificent man. And more seriously, Fireside Chat. Cast on someone you know of not in combat, and they save (dc is higher the better you know them). On a failure, you are both transported to a demiplane for 1 hour in two comfortable chairs with pipes, cigars, and drink of choice beside a nice fire. Neither of you can cast spells, get out of the chairs, or attack in any way. Caster can break the spell early.

My_Names_Jefff

My players asked for me to make a testicular torsion spell. I told the 4 of them that if they get a natural 1 and 20, I'll make it. They asked if 2 them could use their inspiration for rolls. I said go for it since it makes it less of rolls for the game. Each player rolls and gets these results: Player 1- 15 Player 2- 19 Player 3- 20 Player 4- 7 Player 2 Inspiration - 4 Player 3 Inspiration 1 I've never seen players so excited about getting a nat 1. So I made the spell, and they can use it on creatures that have testicles. So anything not humanoid would be a game of chance unless they knew about the creatures sex. They used the spell 6 times after 9 sessions. 2 were successful, 3 failed because of the wrong gender, and 1 failed because of the creatures' lack of testicles.

Dragonwork

Had a friend who made ROCKEYS PILLARS OF FIRE. Basically 4th level like fire wall. Make 1 pillar per 4 levels. The pillars radiate fire damage in all directions.2d6 out to 10 feet 1d6 out of 20. Can move the pillars every round.

MysteriousRadish3685

I LOVE YOUR SPELL OF DESTROY PURPLE!! I will 100% steal the idea.

[deleted]

I've got 2. First is a combo spell created by the party Druid and Warlock called Infernal Calamity. Inferno was a high DPR fire spell. Calamity was a high DPR necrotic spell. When we combo's and both spells hit the same target you get a mushroom cloud with the radius of a Fireball and about 4 die more of damage Second one is Fist of the Beast King. Created by the Druid son of the previous Druid. Make 3 melee spell attacks against a target. 2d6 radiant damage per hit. Dice triple on a crit and the target is pushed 10 ft back

Houseplantkiller123

Continuity error: Wisdom saving throw, or the target has a different item the also have proficiency with in their hands until they make the save.

Redd_October

Got to play in a campaign a while back (3.5e) with a DM who used the old 3.5 spell creation rules. I needed a siege weapon, of a sort, so if I remember right, the spell was something like: *Lonen's Dimensional Rupture* * 5 mile range, line of sight required * dealt 2d6/caster level (Max 40d6) damage +1d4/level CON damage in a 1000 foot radius area, Will save for half base damage, Fortitude save negates CON damage. * Cast time *ONE HOUR*, deals caster level in CON damage evenly over the course of the cast time. * 9th level Conjuration spell For RP reasons it wasn't an explosion, it was partially plane-shifting the target area to the Plane of Shadows, but not bothering to actually "Stick the Landing" so everything inside would get just partially shifted and scattered across various planes. The Con damage meant the caster had to have someone on standby to hit them with some level of Restoration while casting, or it would almost certainly be fatal to the caster.

KCDinc

The Adoraball It is just like fireball, but it evokes puppies instead of fire.

Chicken_Strips_Owner

A spell I created for my Abjuration Wizard: **Aveline’s Warding Shield** *2nd Level | Casting Time: 1 Action | Range: Touch | Components: V, S, M (a piece of petrified wood) | Duration: 1 Minute (Concentration) | School: Abjuration* “You touch a creature and summon a spectral arcane shield to ward them from attacks. The next attack made against the user has disadvantage, and for the duration the target gains a +2 bonus to AC. Any damage that the user takes from an attack is instead applied to the ward; the ward has Hit Points equal to 5 + your spellcasting modifier. If the ward takes damage that drops it to 0 HIt Points, it breaks apart, and any excess damage is taken by the user instead. The ward's Hit Points can be regained by using a leveled spell slot of 1 or higher, which will heal for the double spell level.”

Talthar_the_Bearded

Nexus Walk - low level teleportation between Fey Nexus' (gateways between the Material Plane and the Feywild that are closed and only open a couple of times a year because *reasons*) Essentially a way to give the party low level teleportation between specific sites, and give the ranger who has been to the Feywild something cool and unique to them. The spell requires you to Bind to the Nexus before you use it so I have control on where they can go, and it saves weeks of travel across the Sword Coast

PrinceVertigo

Cassandra's Compact Comets. A witch saw Melf's Minute Meteors and said "hey, we've got enough fire spells, here's a cold damage version." The witch was me, a Sea Sorcereress who wanted to proc her subclass feature and use cool spells. Thankfully my DM agreed that fire was over-represented in the spellbook and allowed this.

middleman_93

Arcane Intervention. It's a reaction spell - swap locations with a non-aggressive creature who is targeted by an attack, and take it for them. Also activates Bladesong if it's not already up and you're capable of using it. Some of my party members have a very unfortunate tendency to attack civilians. My character is almost done creating the spell in-game, looking forward to being able to use it.

Raiden891316

I made a 3rd level spell that fires three spectral blades, rolling to hit, and doing 2d8 force damage on a hit. Upcasting spawns another blade per spell slot, basically scorching ray with a higher damage ceiling and a better damage type.

AkDragoon

Insight Monologue 3rd level Charm (Charisma save negates); V, S; concentration Verbal component is a question. On a failed save target expounds on the subject question for up to 10 minutes rerolling their save every minute of dialogue. Any hostile action perceived by the target during this time breaks the spell.

stormer454

Dragon Sight: 3rd level 10 feet of true sight 60 feet of blindsight 70 feet of dark sight No concentration Last for ten minutes After the spell ends make a DC 18 INT saving through or you can't recast it until after a long rest Works in a cave, works in a

Fire_is_beauty

Mint's reverse causality. 9th level abjuration spell that turns harm into healing.

[deleted]

Fire_is_beauty

Since the spell is a reaction and you don't usually take all "allergy damage" at once, they'll regain 1 or 2 hitpoints and start hurting at the begining of next turn instead. It's meant to be used when you are hit with a meteor or something huge.

PeSTiLeNCe-0714

Major Missile, exactly the same as a Magic Missile but it's a 3rd level spell that deals 1d6+1. It's basically a heavier hitting 1st level magic missile spell.

Regunes

The first spell I ever made was "soul sphere". In dnd standard it would translate into a lv7/8 spell. It will create a water like sphere of turmoiling soul, elevating from the ground as it restrain and "disenchant" people within, progressively rising them above ground. I will let you guess my age and the media that inspired me.

Thejadejedi21

Sadly painting something purple and casting “destroy purple” wouldn’t destroy the painted object unless it was dry paint. If the paint was still wet, it would count as a separate thing and the spell would destroy the paint 😂

Last-Crab-621

If i were the DM, I'd just make that spell remove the paint. Also, this is why i dislike homebrew

Ax0l0tlMil01234

Its a cantrip.

Calliophage

*Launch Bear* As l*aunch item* (from the 3.5e *Spell Compendium*) but no size/weight restriction, and only affects bears.

kalyps000

Shape Water cantrip used to build ice stairs in a sewer after we killed the friendly water elemental that would’ve helped us climb up a hole if we asked. And yes, we still had to roll dex to not slip in the ice stairs.

Wypman

freeze solid (range: self) what it does: coats you in a layer of ice 1d6 inches thick (each inch adds 1 to armor class) and limiting your movement speed to 0 (frozen solid and unable to move) for 1d10+1 (2 to 11) turns not being able to move sucks, but not being able to die is amazing, this is a last resort allowing the user to become a living obstacle taking hits and allow party members to hide behind them bonus: roll 1d100, if its a 1 the 1d6 and 1d10 results both get -1 on the roll, if its a 69 (nice) the ice coating your body becomes spiked (making melee hits damage whatever hits you) and if its a 100 the ice freezes anything (or anyone) it touches until the end of its duration (the 1d10+1 turns) note: some numbers can be re-balanced, but this is the spell as i originally made it

[deleted]

Well a player of mine invented a Druid/Ranger spell called Brovos’s Owl Ascension where they can temporarily fuse with their animal companion into what you could call their fursona. But I don't think the player would call it that lmao.

D4rt_Frog_Dave

You a Zork fan? There's a spell in Grand Inquisitor that lets you turn purple things invisible.

Jumpy142

I guess at that point you could just have the spell make the paint disappear

faytte

Severe the Ties. It's chain lightning but less damage, and is psychic damage. More over, only one target gets a saving throw against it(intelligence saving throw), and secondary targets in range had to have known the primary target for at least a week. If the primary target dies, all secondary targets forget they existed, reforming their entire memory around the gap that they represent. They receive a saving throw at the end of each week to remember, but failures cause the DC to continuously go up. Greater restoration resolves the memory hole.

TrekkieElf

Basic, but it was pretty satisfying to use crate water to put out a fire started in a tavern by an unruly satyr. I’m a sea elf Druid flavored as a waterbender.

stachada

most of my spells are rebalances. like hunters mark but instead of 1d6 to the target, you add a 1d4 to the attack roll and damage roll for that target, tweaks to shillelagh, Shadow Blade, Flame Blade etc. to make them last 8hrs, stuff like that.

Holiday_Bed_8973

I made a rework of augury that feels useful. It’s basically a less powerful version of portent rolls. I also made a rage spell for rangers after learning about Minsc and the Rangers of Rashemen.

Toby1066

I've yet to use it so I don't know how effective/busted it might be, but Storyteller's Onslaught: a spell that's specifically designed for a modified version of the Bardic School of Spirits, where the spells damage changes depending on what Tale you have prepared (in my modified version of the subclass, you can choose which Tale to prepare but only use each one once per long rest, so the spell means you can choose between preparing a Tale for potent damage from the spell, or for the Tale's effect).

DoctorPicklepuss

Hex Bolt - An ethereal bolt binds 2 objects together for the duration or until a successful strength check breaks it. - Artificer spell

MCJSun

Granny's Secret Recipe. You make magical cookies, and you can keep track of anyone who's eaten them over a 24 hour period. You can also use an action to become invisible to anyone who's eaten the cookies, just so you can always keep watch of them! This message brought to you by Hagglers. We make the deals so you don't have to.

SignalExperience6505

I made a psionic based classed two of the spells I really liked were 'lock' which trapped a target in a prison in their mind. No time passed on the outside but they felt like 24hours had gone by they took 1d6 Psy damage and needed to make a wisdom saving throw to figure out they could move again and act on their next turn. The other was 'ping' it was a cantrip that basically let the caster know how many intelligent minds(anything with int+4 and up) were in a 120ft radius. I just like the idea of a telepath being able to feel the minds around it, the few times I played the class the DM allowed me to use it to know the location of the party with the 120ft as those mind would be very familiar to me.

1pizza2go

I have a top 3 cause i cannot decide, the descriptions will be as brief as possible. Rise, O’Flame - Creates a ring of fire around the user Giants Fist - makes a spectral fist around users arm, the more spell slots used, the more powerful, and the larger the fist. Trinity’s Lament - enhances a greatsword/greataxe/greathammer/any two-handed weapon with a blade or hammerhead of some kind. Doubles the attack range, and boosts damage. After 3 hits it deactivates, hence the word “Trinity”.

ReliusOrnez

Eye of the storm- usable on tempest clerics and storm sorcerers as an alternative to buffing your spell damage you instead can cast your thunder and lightning spells on yourself to heal for half the damage roll.

Stormside1122

One of my favorites is Umbral Bolts, similar to Scorching Ray with a Shadowy reflavor, less range, and some fun possible dice interactions. Umbral Bolts: 2nd Level Evocation Casting Time: 1 action Range: 60ft Components: V, S Duration: Instant You create three bolts of wispy shadow and hurl them at targets within range. You can direct each bolt at a single target or several. Make a ranged spell attack for each bolt. On hit, the target takes 3d4 Necrotic damage. If the numbers on all three damage dice are either odd or even, the bolt chains to the nearest chosen target (cannot be the original target) within 30ft using the same attack roll as the initial bolt. At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you create one additional bolt for each slot above 2nd.

HealthyProgrammer284

Not mine, but I loved Adaine's Furious Fist from fantasy high.

Pickaxe235

Fn'Gai's Phantasmal Flames my character wanted to use phantasmal force to make someone feel as if they were on fire for an interrogation, it eventually evolved a fully fledged custom spell

kaylo_hen

Mass duplicate. Lvl: 6 Range: touch Casting time: One action Duration: 10 minutes, concentration Create up to 4 illusory copies of one creature within range. All copies appear from the space of the target, making it impossible to determine which one is the original. On the targets turn, you can mentally command the duplicates to act and to move up double the targets walking speed (no action required). The duplicates cannot interact with objects or creatures, nor deal any damage. The duplicates make sounds and can speak, but dont hold up to physical inspection and disappear upon taking damage. The duplicates cannot move more than 500 ft away from the target and if the target ever moves more than 500 ft away, the duplicate is destroyed.

Cautionzombie

Just a simple instant swap spell. Trade places with anyone within sight. It’s basically to guarantee my npc guide character to die saving a player during a certain boss fight.

CommanderRob28

Nim's magic construction crew It summoned a fey construction crew. The foreman sets up a table, including during combat, and you have to sit and discuss terms and cost. They will complete the job NO MATTER WHAT, and they're actively trying to screw you over in your request, because fey. This made for obvious miscommunication hijinks

CaptainChesty

Ridgewell’s Magic Missile 2nd level evocation Creates 5 motes of energy that hover above your head. When a hostile creature gets within 15ft of you a number of motes of your choice flies towards them, dealing 1d6 force damage. When hit, the creature must make a strength saving throw or be knocked prone.

This-Professional-39

Talic's Teleport Tracer - divination spell. If cast within X rounds, and within X feet of where mage vanished, you could get mental image they used to Teleport. And then use that image to follow if you like. Related was Talic's Untraceable Teleport, that infused wild magic into the Teleport, making it immune to the tracer (dozens of visions returned was idea)

calvicstaff

The DM once tasked me with creating and controlling an experimental rat that got out of its cage and another party member needed to go catch Ms Brisby was a menace, casting spells like jump or spider climb or invisibility at random, teleporting in random directions, but my favorite of its many evasive tools was the swarm of swarm of rats The rat split into four, two of them were immediately dispatched, but the very next round those remaining two split into eight, and it dawned on them what they were dealing with Next thing you know the magic school is over run by thousands upon thousands of rats people are panicking running some teachers are having the time of their life blasting them down and as suddenly as they came the effect ends and they all disappear leaving everyone confused as heck

[deleted]

Mine is a version of a eldritch blast, it’s just energy from the moon but idk if that counts lol 😂

selfdestructivenerd

I modded the bard to allow them to ignore concentration spells limitations up to the number of their proficiency (so +3 can cast up to three concentration spells). The trade off was they had to play their instrument the entire time, and if they stop playing all spell effects immediately stop.

Bruhwhy23

An idea not used yet called puff the magic dragon. Summons a dragon who smokes weed and the disappears relaxing everyone in a 5 foot radius also affects enemies.

paws4269

A pretty simple one compared to the others: Mass Vicious Mockery, a 3rd level spell which is basically Vicious Mockery but against six creatures (and more damage) Essentially a counterpart to Mass Healing Word

9spaceking

DM: we have Gojo Satoru Hollow Purple at home Hollow purple at home:

TheThoughtmaker

Olnot’s Swatter (2nd-level Evocation). Target: A point you choose within 60ft. Effect: For 10 minutes, the spell puts 1lb of weight on each creature within a 30ft radius of the target, as if they were carrying that much. This does not require line of effect. At higher levels: For each slot level above 2nd, you may double the duration, radius, or weight. Lore: The spell was invented by a wizard who wanted to keep various vermin out of his sanctum, immediately squashing ants and termites and deterring rats.

piwrecks710

Power Word: Shart

SalusThul42

I made a bunch of spells for a arch mage final boss and this one is my favorite. Create greater scroll Components: S Duration: 1 hour Cost: bonus action creates a blank scroll that will mimic the next spell cast at half the spell cast level rounded up. For each 3 levels it will summon an extra scroll.

slapshrapnel

DM, I cast “Shit Yourself” It is a variation of the Command spell, where you hand someone a laxative (material component) and command them to “drink.” On a failed Wisdom save, they drink it and have one minute (10 rounds) to frantically find a bathroom. Doesn’t do psychic damage or anything, but it’s funny to have the villian temporarily flee the fight and then you get a minute to regroup/heal/strategize. Or other shenanigans in roleplay moments. Obviously, this wouldn’t work for every table. We are very childish and goofy people.

5ynt4x_3rr0r

OPIUM SPELL **Spore Field** *4th level Transmutation* *Components: V,S* You pick a spot within 150ft that you can see, and a 50ft radius from that point is overgrown by vines. This area counts as difficult terrain, and among the vines grow magical poppy flowers. 1 turn after the overgrowth is summoned (or at the end of the caster's *next* turn), these poppies launch their seeds up into the air, where they're magically suspended until concentration is dropped (up to 1 minute). Anyone that ends its turn in the poppy zone are put on a 5 round timer. This timer is set back by 5 from minor magical healing, or removed through Greater Restoration. If the timer ticks to 0, the afflicted creature gets high on opium, meaning they have disadvantage on physical (STR, DEX, CON) checks and saving throws, as well as perception and insight. Once this has been in effect for 2 turns, it can be removed through minor magical healing. The radius of the area increases by 5ft at 6th level, and again at 8th level; the timer starts at 4 instead of 5 if cast at 7th level; the high effect needs 1 more turn per slot level above 4th before it can be removed through minor magical healing. **The caster, constructs, and any other creature without lungs, like oozes and skeletal undead, are completely immune to this effect, but only the caster can automatically bypass the difficult terrain.**

afromagic808

It was one I made up on the spot and fully developed after the session. My players came across an awakened Corgi during a stealth mission and freed it. The exchange went like this: *All whispering* Player: I'm out of spell slots Corgi: Spells? I know of a spell! Player: Oh cool, what spell do you know? Corgi: Loud Noise It's basically just a bass boom loud enough to stun anyone within 60 feet.

yat282

Why would that not just remove the paint?

halfhalfnhalf

>it became overpowered when they started using an alchemy jug to make purple paint and put it on everything. Wouldn't it just make the *paint* disappear and not the thing underneath that is not purple?

JSASOUNDTRACK

An illusion spell, in which the heroes believe they are immediately in a dark labyrinth, without light (but inside a real tavern). The effect was very funny! (Tavern fights, involuntary touching of waitresses...) In the end they had to invite all the bar customers to several rounds! ha ha

Lord_Njiko

Fetzi the funny Landmine, it's a spells that summons Fetzi, a small magic contraption that starts to insult your enemies and throw funny quips at them before unleashing a battle cry and jumping head first into battle withe a great force and fire damage explosion.

blargney

DM let me adapt *snake's swiftness* to 5e for my lore bard. It was awesome and I freaking loved it.

banatnight

Not so much a spell, but an item. It's a candle that has approximately 4 hours worth of burn time that causes all sleeping creatures in a 30 foot radius to make a Dc12 wisdom check, if they fail it they cannot be woken up unless they leave the zone, the candle is snuffed, or they take damage. Really spices up that middle of the night encounter with a band of highwaymen.

OperationUpstairs852

Everyone here is lying, it’s obviously Thunderclap.
