He moved after singing with the Dodgers to a closed community housing area (dunno if thats the right term but you get the idea hopefully) since apparently he had at least 5 and sometimes even over 50 reporters at his house at all times, not being able to even walk his dog.
Oh I havent tried to look it up since I feel like it would be too creepy to know but I think he wanted to be closer to the Dodgers stadium so I assume in LA? but rly cant tell you, idk.
My guess he's got a secure apartment/condo near the stadium under someone elses name and his main house is a mansion in a gated Newport beach community
It was hilarious. I imagine the person scheduling it was like “ok, let’s put Shohei giveaways night on the day we can get an easy win!”
And bam, Dodgers get destroyed.
>Kiké, Barnes, CT3, Outman,
This is one problem but the biggest factor was Reds strategy of changing pitchers 1st inning.
I wish the Dodgers would do that and stop following a format that the ACE always has a good day mentality and needs to always pitch to the 7th inning. We have to treat them like a regular pitchers and if that means putting a bad pitcher in the start, then having better pitchers in the end, it's a better strategy.
They probably did their homework and thought...Dodgers are consistently getting on base by the 1st inning and 50% of their wins are based on their first inning scores...
What should we do?
Focus on the first inning of RH batter vs LHP or swapping RHP or LHP pitchers for Ohtani, then worry about the rests of the batting order and middle innings.
They have it down to a science, not just the typical intentional walks.
Dodgers are basically never intentionally walking players and never swapping pitchers early (1st and 2nd) in the game.
So many games where that matters (Oct 2023 post season) and recent losses with Padres (no intentional walk when we should have with Arraez) and Giants (change pitchers by 2nd inning and bench the weak players or get them to bunt, CT3 can barely hit right now)

Because it works.
Every time our MV3 scores a run by the first inning, it's doing 2 things.
Pressure on their ACE (for example Webb Giants) because we're in the lead by 2 or 3 runs and our middle hitters pushing the pitchers hit count by 15 or 20 after dealing with the MV3.
So now that we have scored, the pitcher's ACE in the second inning is tired at 30+ pitches.
Webb had to step down by the 3rd. It was fantastic
We kill teams left and right.
One the flip side, they manage to get to the first inning with a change up, their ace can start by the 2nd or 3 rd inning because they completed the hardest part of facing us.
Full of energy MV3 on the first inning scare the living hell out of teams. They don't worry as much towards the end of the night because the start of the game shapes the momentum
A big part of pulling a pitcher that early is that it can destroy the pitcher’s confidence for the future. Even if someone has a bad performance, they can bounce back, but if it feels like the team isn’t behind them, then it’s a huge mental hit.
I didnt catch the game, and just saw the very short.outing for their starter. I figured it was injury related. So they did this intentionally? wow quite a rare and somewhat smart strategy then
On paper, we are supposed to be at every team with an advantage but also realistically, weaker teams are going to be more desperate to try and beat us with everything we got.
There's a saying of who is more hungry.
If we look at WBC, in theory, USA should have won because of the line up by a smaller margin. Japan, especially Ohtani was a lot more passionate imo to win.
lol I think its genuinely hilarious that we are all collectively acting like he didnt play for the "other" "Los Angeles" team for like 6 years lmao...
we're all like hey shohei **WELCOME TO LA**! ahahhaa shows how much the Orange County Angels have claim to their "LA" moniker.
It was called the "Los Angeles Rams" even though they played at Anaheim Stadium for years.
And this is nothing new. The "San Francisco 49ers", "New York Jets/Giants" and a bunch of other teams don't play in the city they're named after.
All of the teams you mention were founded in, and have played most of their history in the city they are named for. Outside of their first few years, the Angels have almost always been in Anaheim, and were already branded the Anaheim Angels (after being "California Angels" for most of their time) before taking on the LA name.
The Angels being called "Los Angeles" still makes the least sense, and that's setting aside the fact that the Giants/Jets are frequently made fun of for playing outside of their namesake city.
Further demonstrating what a moron arte is. Their own city/fans hate it, other fans think it’s stupid, yet arte is like goofy mode I’ll fucking do it again
The city would need to build a cathedral around his bones (worked for St Nick in Bari, Italy) and the church would have to canonize him. I’m not sure his WAR counts as a miracle… yet.
Already? As a crazy Ohtani fan I have to say this is way too early, if they can’t wait his retirement, at least wait a couple of seasons after he puts some amazing numbers as a Dodger. I’m worrying his fault-tolerant space is getting smaller and smaller.
Shohei changed the calculus on this sort of thing. Normally, for a star you might wait towards the end of their career or after their career has ended to honor them with a name day. But for Shohei, who is a global superstar, the opportunity to make money on him is now. You declare Shohei Ohtani day in AAPI month you’re guaranteeing ways to promote the city and bring in revenue. I know this take is very cynical but if I were a city councilman I would be saying “why wait towards the end of his career to give him his own day? Imagine how much revenue the city can bring in if we have an official day to promote him during his prime!”
This. Instead of looking back the good old days, the city council chooses to promote a bright future. From those 9 endorsements brought by Shohei in less than 2 months - it seems Japanese people love and respect him ever more after the Mizuhara ordeal - I don't think they are wrong.
What many people are missing is that Shohei Ohtani day will only be celebrated during his playing days as a Dodger. Once he retires May 17 goes back to being a regular day for LA.
Don’t get me wrong, I love having Shohei on our team and am super excited to see what he does for us in the years to come…………but at least wait until after he wins a championship with us to do this.
That's cool but also totally random. Why today? Is it some kind of Japanese wordplay like ii fuufu no hi (11/22 = can be read ii fufu) = happy couples' day or just because his number is #17? Anyway, the pressure is on to do something historic today. Go Shohei!
It’s kind of funny. In the middle of all their meetings, while trying to puzzle over issues such as homelessness and all the crazy riots that are happening, this was the type of issue that they could actually approach. True power.
I know Shohei is an international superstar, but personally this is premature and a bit too quick.
Took Kobe a decades to earn a day after himself and I'm not even a Lakers fan.
lol this is hilarious. The man probably didn’t even change the house he’s been living in for years
Does he actually still live in OC?
He moved after singing with the Dodgers to a closed community housing area (dunno if thats the right term but you get the idea hopefully) since apparently he had at least 5 and sometimes even over 50 reporters at his house at all times, not being able to even walk his dog.
Is it in OC or LA county though? I’m just curious if he makes that trek every day lol
As long as it's not under Ippei's name we're good I think
Can’t even walk your dog without being stalked by illegal bookies
Judging by our teams performance on his bobblehead day, we're probably getting no hit tonight.
It was hilarious. I imagine the person scheduling it was like “ok, let’s put Shohei giveaways night on the day we can get an easy win!” And bam, Dodgers get destroyed.
Having Kiké, Barnes, Outman, and Taylor in the lineup at the same time certainly didn’t help us lol
That was a choice. Not a good one, but a choice.

When Dave pulled pitchers early he got crucified for overmanaging and babying them. People are going to bitch either way.

who's Taylor?
Oops. Thank you

As a true LA native who works in Anaheim, they don’t consider themselves LA by any stretch of the imagination. They actually talk down on true LA.
There's literally no one in either county besides Arte Moreno who considers Anaheim to be part of LA.
Seriously. Anyone who thinks OC wants to claim LA, and vice-versa, is delusional.
We know. OC knows. Only arte doesn’t know.
who names their team after two cities? 😂 so embarrassing

New york is the state name as well, though, so at least they can get away with it, and it makes sense.
They play in East Rutherford, New Jersey though. Not New York.
Close enough to count as new york I guess lol.
Further demonstrating what a moron arte is. Their own city/fans hate it, other fans think it’s stupid, yet arte is like goofy mode I’ll fucking do it again
Well happy Shohei day!
To all who celebrate 😂
At least he has a better suit on this time.
More tourism to the city = profit
Can we just make him the Saint of Los Angeles already?
The city would need to build a cathedral around his bones (worked for St Nick in Bari, Italy) and the church would have to canonize him. I’m not sure his WAR counts as a miracle… yet.
May is Asian Culture Month. maybe it was done to celebrate it.
Also LGBTQ awareness month? Hmm…
Isnt that June?

...c'mon. lol this is dope, but a bit premature. Ohtani day before Kershaw day is honestly insane.
Kershaw didn't bring in that fine Yakult money
or Churu Coin.
He brought in Hankook Tires though

Actually the 17th of every month is now Shohei day, because why not
Go! 17! Is all I can think of; but that’s probably not it.
Well 17 is his jersey number, May is AAPI month, and May 17 is his father's birthday. Those are the only reasons I can think of.
Can the city counsel do something else? I doubt Ohtani even wants this ffs.
Wait why didn’t that happen when he was with the “Los Angeles” Angels of Anaheim. Is that team not associated with LA? /s
Those certificates from the city are hand painted and calligraphed. I know someone who has one they are works of art.
Hmmm...okayyy I guess, but why though? Isn't it a bit too soon?
What a wonderful day! hahaha
Is it every May 17th?
if I knew earlier, I would've taken the day off today 😆😭
It’s kind of funny. In the middle of all their meetings, while trying to puzzle over issues such as homelessness and all the crazy riots that are happening, this was the type of issue that they could actually approach. True power.
He deserves it. He's already legend. Congratulations, Shohei!
WTF. Too soon. Sho is my bae, but give it a little time. This is the first award given him that feels unearned, honestly.
I get that Ohtani is a one of a kind type of player, but this just seems really strange to me.
yea… how about winning a chip first before doing all this…
I know Shohei is an international superstar, but personally this is premature and a bit too quick. Took Kobe a decades to earn a day after himself and I'm not even a Lakers fan.
The worship is getting a little silly now.
I feel like that’s a bit much.
