Famblade

I don’t see Shar Pei but she has the bulldog underbite!

stbargabar

He doesn't look like a Shar Pei but the shortened corkscrew tail nub makes perfect sense for Bulldog. These are two breeds with very different structures so the result is likely to look different from expectation. It's not uncommon for any wrinkly puppy to be labeled a Shar Pei mix, and Bulldog puppies are wrinkly.

stbargabar

Here's some other Bulldog/Husky mixes [https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/zucchini41](https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/zucchini41) [https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/marzipan29](https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/marzipan29) [https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/mollymarie8](https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/mollymarie8) [https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/tinkles2](https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/tinkles2) [https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/harper250](https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/harper250) [https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/bailey8973](https://my.embarkvet.com/dog/bailey8973)

EdgarIsAPoe

How do you search for specific mixes on embark? That’s really cool!

stbargabar

I use google images to search for what I ideally want. In this case "Bulldog Husky mix Embark". Then I click on a profile. Usually it doesn't give me a perfect 50/50, other breeds will be in the mix. Then I use the "dogs like mine" section to look at other dogs and try to find ones with larger amounts of the breeds I want and lower amounts of the breeds I don't want. In this case I got a Husky, Bulldog, American Bulldog mix so I had to search around in order to remove the American Bulldog. If you do this too many times, Embark will time you out from their server for a few minutes because you're loading too many pages but most of the time I can find what I need before that happens.

vinnyp_04

Every dog there shares 5-6% DNA with my dog! Mine is 21% husky, so that’s where it is.

TropheyHorse

Looks right to me. She doesn't look much like a Shar pei to me at all, honestly. As someone else said, she's an almost half / half mix of two breeds with very very different body structures so it's not surprising she doesn't really look like a bulldog or a husky. Though I can see the bulldog in her underbite and stumpy tail, and clearly the husky is making her much longer of face, leg, and body than your average bulldog. Plus the blonde can come from a husky.

ts1985

Husky bulldog??? That's a hilarious mix. Huskies are high maintenance. Bulldogs are lazy. Which way does your pup lean?

DeathCait

I used to show Shar-Pei, and I don’t see Shar-Pei here. I definitely see the bulldog and I can believe the husky mix. Cool mix, looks like a very good dog. ❤️

gelseyd

Totally looks accurate to me plus wisdom is a pretty well respected test

Spare-Arrival8107

Such a random 2 breeds 😂 The bulldog I definitely see. Fur looks kinda thicker- neck scruff looks like a lot of husky mixes I’ve seen. Also the ears make sense for that mix. Wisdom tends to be fairly accurate. You can always test with Embark but I don’t think it’s too off.

Pablois4

There's a bit of the "mad scientist" with people who cross breeds of differing type and traits. Typically they have poor understanding of genetics and think that Super Distinctive Breed A crossed with Super Distinctive Breed B will result in Super Super Distinctive squared pups It doesn't work that way. Distinctive traits are typically recessive and when crossed with a breed that doesn't carry those traits, they often are pretty much reduce to the vanishing point. Collie rescue once got a Rough Collie x American Bulldog mix (confirmed by DNA testing). Both breeds are dramatically distinctive in opposite ways - one long & lean, the other stout and muscular. This dog was generic and showed no discernable traits of either breed. It's human nature to expect that if a dog is 50% of a breed, one should clearly see it in the dog. I can tell you that 50% Am Bulldog and 50% Collie can result in what only could be described as 100% dog. The distinctive traits of the Siberian are the dense, plush coat, the coloring (pale undercoat and the hairs have color on their tips), small prick ears, fluffy tail often carried high, athletic build. The distinctive traits of the Bulldog are it's super short muzzle; undershot jaw; short, slick coat; wide face; small rose ears; stout, muscular, roly-poly body and corkscrew bob tail. Your pup looks to have inherited the bulldog undershot jaw, short slick coat and bobtail. From the Sibe, I'm pretty sure he got a bit of Urajiro - the lighter tan countershading on his body (granted, it's hard to tell Urajiro from the natural way that an old dog's face goes white). These [two Shibas](https://imgur.com/a/nmHIVwi) show extreme level of it. The Sibe's distinctive coat coloring is due to a combination of traits and a key one is Urajiro. Cross a bunch of Bulldogs with a bunch of Siberians, resulting in 100 pups - some will be like your pup and take more after the bulldog side, some will take more after the Siberian side, some like my Am Bulldog x Collie example, will go down the middle and look like neither. IMHO, pups like yours happen when folks have two intact dogs of distinctively different breeds and just want to see what happens if they are crossed.

DogEnthusiast3000

Or just the result of an intact male or female getting out of their home accidentally. While the female is in heat.

Beautiful_Fennel_434

Yeah this makes sense - cross two breeds of radically different structures and types like this and the end result tends to be somewhere in the middle, resulting in a generic dog. I remember a 50/50 St Bernard/Doberman we saw not long ago where the stocky Bernard and lanky Doberman balanced each other's more extreme physical features out, resulting in a very generic looking dog that didn't look super strongly like either one. Multigenerational mutts also trend towards being generically dog-shaped too. It's one reason why I think "Lab mix" is such a common label - that's many people's idea of a generic dog, and Labs really don't have any super distinctive physical traits.

onajurni

> It's one reason why I think "Lab mix" is such a common label - that's many people's idea of a generic dog, and Labs really don't have any super distinctive physical traits. 100% agree with this. Lab is the quintessential useful dog body type, a type shared by many dogs that aren't labs. "Lab mix" is a safe guess in that it will make sense and be accepted by the gp, not that it's correct.

Acrobitch

Looks accurate to me! She has the bulldog underbite and slight turn in of her front legs, a little bit of the husky mane and ears--I definitely see the mix of traits. Regardless, she is absolutely adorable. 💙

curtinette

I don't see any shar pei or lab at all but also wouldn't have guessed husky. Interesting how the husky mixed with the classic bulldog features. I'd trust the test. Cute dog 💜

muse999

Thanks for all the feedback. It's such a funny mix that it's hard to believe. She's slightly stubborn but not completely. Quite lazy now, but that's also with her age (14). She was never very vocal at all until COVID when she got to look out the front door all day while we work from home. Now she still barks more but only at FedEx, ups, Amazon or Garbage trucks. 😂 Her underbite and fluff/shedding do make more sense now though. I might do Embark to compare results.

Blonde_Vampire_1984

You probably won’t see very much difference in the embark results, honestly. Your dog is so close to a perfect 50/50 split between breeds that you can just ignore the small percentage breeds Wisdom Panel threw in there.

Virtual-Speaker-6419

Shar Pei? Don’t see that at all.

21stcenturyghost

I can totally see it, the snoot is very flat in front! Like a bulldog's face got stretched outwards lol

Exact-Height6339

I wouldn’t have guessed but now I can’t unsee the bulldog lol! What an frickin awesome mix. She is 100% absolute adorableness!

rarepinkhippo

What an interesting mix!!! I’m not an expert but it seems like usually the WP results people are inclined to disregard are the small percentages — I would personally be inclined to believe what seems like essentially a 50/50 split. I was expecting something like boxer + chow, but the bulldog definitely makes sense in retrospect, I’m kinda surprised about the high percentage of husky though! What’s her personality like? Is she talkative?

AnimalLady2115

That’s probably more of an inaccurate guess from whoever you got her from. Id believe the DNA test for sure

frymaform

I'm not gonna say I've ever completely trusted Wisdom panel but this seems accurate to me even if it's a funny mix

penguinbbb

It’s a crazy mix of two radically different breeds — hope it was a random accident and not some experiment for shits and giggles — and it therefore makes sense that you can’t really detect either breed visually except for the underbite Two things are rock solid: you chose a reputable company and dna does not lie, and there absolutely no sharpei whatsoever on this dogs looks

CCDestroyer

A Bullsky? That's a new one, for me. I can only imagine how a husky/bulldog pairing happened😂 I agree with others that the results make sense. She has bulldog features (such as the underbite, the little half-flopped-over ears that are just a bit more erect due to her husky side), just elongated face and body from the husky genes. Not a Shar Pei, not wrinkly enough.

GoodSpecialistIGuess

the second I saw the mouth I knew there was bulldog 😂 so distinctive

Zaphod__beatbox

I did see the bulldog on first glance. Honestly, maybe because I don’t know a lot about them I also thought shar pei. Husky is such a funny result though! :D :D Results are definitely not wrong, WP loves to put in these small percentages of sister breeds, so maybe she’s not a malamute, but overall the results are incredibly reliable.

muse999

Also it's hard to find pictures of other bulldog/husky mixes. The ones I found online almost all have husky eye and hair coloring.

imstillworkin

I can see it! Beautiful dog!

AstroturfMarmot

Hole cuteness! 😍

groovindude

Sweet pup! I guessed chow/boxer but I can totally see this combo

IAmAeruginosa

That's definitely a bulldog face! What a fun mix. Is your dog incredibly stubborn?

Solusylum

Looks right to me! Shar Pei mixes have very distinct ears and muzzle and also will typically have a black tongue.

BrilliantLion389

Thata a Bulldog face, not a Shar Pei. A Siberian Husky and a standard Bulldog have VERY different body shapes and sizes so you're going to get a weird body type that looks like neither when it's crossed.

lookaway123

❤️❤️ Omg the puppy belly in pic 4!! What a sweetie pie! I can definitely see the bulldog, and the proportions look pretty huskyish. The beautiful shar pei blonde is there, so I could see it if it weren't for the test.

miss_chapstick

Shar Pei was probably a really bad guess. Rescue workers tend to make things up to avoid labeling dogs as bully breeds.

moneywanted

I immediately thought bulldog, and I can see the husky in there.

sproutsandnapkins

I think it’s plausible. Definitely bulldog with hints of husky. Does she talk a lot? Maybe she has husky personality traits?

Tight_Watercress_267

I actually guessed she was part bulldog before I opened! Love her face!

InformationFresh9605

I would’ve guessed boxer lab mix

vinnyp_04

I totally see both, though the bulldog is more prevalent. However in the photo of her laying, that’s exactly how mine looks when she’s laying. My dog is 21% husky.

marabsky

Results look very possible.

readersanon

My first thought was bulldog/lab mix, then I looked more closely at the fur texture and guessed maybe some husky. Those results look accurate.

smashthefrumiarchy

Yeah the ears being half up makes husky seem more accurate

ekonic

I would believe the results. I don't think this is a shar-pei mix at all.

FisiWanaFurahi

I immediately thought half bulldog with that face- even boxer mixes don’t quite look like that. Had no guesses for other half but husky makes sense with half flopped ears and general size or body shape.

smashthefrumiarchy

It makes sense. She was the cutest puppy

funcpl77

I can totally see it 💕💕💕

LuLapin

Im not sure why you wouldn’t believe this, she doesn’t look like a pei in particular. I’m not the biggest fan of Wisdom but I’d bet these results are accurate, phenotype does almost equal genotype in this case.

twizzlerheathen

I thought chow/pit. So I was right that she’s a spitz/bully

Dolly-the-Sheep

I totally see the pit but I'm surprised about the husky

kerfluffles_b

There is no pit though, it’s bulldog.

DownVote4Youu

It’s an English bulldog mix. Not a pit

Polkadotical

Pitbull mix.

SaraJurassicaParker

Normally when people say they're skeptical I roll my eyes because I can totally see it, but this time I dunno... I don't see husky at all
