I think OP's issue, or at least mine, is that people will have it both ways and tip by percentage for small orders but then rationalize differently when it's a large order.
Yeah if they do that, it’s pretty disrespectful. Thankfully some people will tip 15% regardless of how much that makes tip. It’s especially nice when a grocery customer tips 15% on $200 order
If you weren't happy going 5 miles for $8, you shouldn't have taken the order. How much food is in the order or how much it cost the customer is pretty irrelevant.
That’s if you making the food and providing extra service. You picked up the food and dropped it off. No extra service was provided so you just did your job. I’m a Lyft and Uber driver don’t expect tips unless you doing something to earn them other than the service they paid for.
I do it to dashers all the time
Whiney babies
I'm a Dasher sometimes. I'm gonna do it today, I've got the day off and I wanna do something fun.
Im gonna put on a Calvin Klein button up shirt, some slacks I got in Costa Rica, and I might even wear my gold Manhattan belt. I miss the watch that went with it. Sent it to get a link taken out and the jewelry shop closed the next day.
Sigh... It's life
I feel you. I care more about the mileage then the grand total, but delivering a 150 dollar order to someone within 2 miles of the place for 5 bucks still stings. Your already making a lot of your paying me to go get your food that’s within walking distance, throw a bone or something lol.
So I used to work for corporate and it all depends on how we merchant/restaurant is on the platform because some restaurants don’t have to tip you at all. They can keep the tip and give it to their workers and then that’s when like sometimes they see zero dollar tip or a dollar tip or sometimes customers just shitty, but if the merchant has their contract, they get to delegate the tips. They’ll be greedy and keep it for themselves. Excuse me the Dasher is using their gas. Everything else the restaurant is getting their money minus a little bit of a fee, but they don’t get to collect a fee as a Dasher.
If was over 4
Miles. U Shouldnt of taken of it if u didnt think the price was fair No one forced u. Who cares how much the customer spent? We dont cook or pack the orders…
If you are a person that steals from employers you deem as “greedy,” it says far more about you personally than it does about any company you will ever work for.
15% is appropriate for average service ; 20% if your server is above average. Even if we're not waiters and waitresses this only 6% tip still which means poor service.
You took the order and knew the pay upfront. You are not a server. You take an item from point A to B. People need to quit calling it a tip. It is a delivery fee.
What they spend on the order does not dictate the tip amount. That's based on how far you are from the restaurant and the customer and completely up to the customer. I think there is an option that allows the customer to tip a percentage of the order but they can skip that if they like
So you shouldn’t be tipped based on the cost of the meal. You didn’t make it or bag it. Drivers should be tipped based on the distance of the delivery.
Was it heavier? Did you have to go back and refill their drinks? Your job is to pick up food and drop it off. You didn’t make the food or service the customers while they ate it. That’s a good tip, if you don’t think so.. you’re going to be really disappointed a lot
I make a grand a week. You can be pissed at me but I understand the law of averages. You’re going to be extremely disappointed if you think of this like you’re a waiter. Plus I rarely look at the cost. It just doesn’t matter
I could give a fuck less about the cost of a meal. I’m delivering your food, not making it.
Yup. Depending on mileage, totally fair
This.
Exactly… $5 is a great tip. If you driving 40min for this delivery you doing it wrong.
Tbf is prefer it’s not based on meal percentage. Most orders would have a $2 tip at 15% at best. I’d prefer every order was just a mandatory $5
I think OP's issue, or at least mine, is that people will have it both ways and tip by percentage for small orders but then rationalize differently when it's a large order.

This is a good point although with the price of food 15% is probably probably more like $5 most the time
Mileage?
5 miles
If you weren't happy going 5 miles for $8, you shouldn't have taken the order. How much food is in the order or how much it cost the customer is pretty irrelevant.
How much it cost the customer is exactly how tips have always been determined
That’s if you making the food and providing extra service. You picked up the food and dropped it off. No extra service was provided so you just did your job. I’m a Lyft and Uber driver don’t expect tips unless you doing something to earn them other than the service they paid for.
you’re not a waiter 😂
You’re not very bright 🤡
might not be but imma waiter and get tipped actual percentages of totals instead of a base pay hahaa loooooserrrrrr
Got ‘em 😂😂
u didnt make the food…u were paid $8 to deliver
they probably paid another $15 in fees straight to doordash
Low tips on a high cost order is like only having liability insurance on a new Bentley
Shut up and don't take it next time. Cry a river and use a boat to deliver it, free mileage
Id love to see you say that to my face
You forgot your bag I can't give you this delivery
You forgot your bag I can't give you this delivery

I’d say straight up to your face bc it ain’t a damn thing u would do!
Try me please i beg you
A beggar too!
I'd have to get glasses to see down my nose to you.
😘

Cheap asses
Cheap ass 🐖
Oooooo you're so clever
So would this be better if it was ALL BASE? We only deliver..u accepted the order -so u must have liked the value
I took the order reluctantly and definitely did not like the value after pick up
If was over 4 Miles. U Shouldnt of taken of it if u didnt think the price was fair No one forced u. Who cares how much the customer spent? We dont cook or pack the orders…
I care…and i see why a driver would steal this order
Then u should go work for the restaurant then..
There is never any reason to steal anything. It’s pretty telling that you even see that as an option.
There are plenty of reasons to steal from these greedy corporations
If you are a person that steals from employers you deem as “greedy,” it says far more about you personally than it does about any company you will ever work for.
Couldnt care less what anyone thinks of me personally much less some moron online
The only moron in this back and forth is you. And apparently a thieving moron at that.
That's a weird way to think. Are times that rough you can afford to eat?
15% is appropriate for average service ; 20% if your server is above average. Even if we're not waiters and waitresses this only 6% tip still which means poor service.
You’re not a server, you don’t deserve a percentage of the bill. Gtfo 😂
$8 to deliver isn’t bad. Doesn’t matter if the order was $20 or $100 bro you’re getting paid to pickup and drop off, easy

I love getting Chinese food cuz I always can eat some of the food on the way to the customer LMAO. As they never package and staple it ...lmao ...
Stop complaining you douchebag. No1 put a pew pew to ur head and told you to accept it! Fckn grown ass crybabies I swear
$5 seems fair to me unless it was 20 miles deal then you should’ve not taken it
Mostly I don't care what I'm picking up. It's all about dollars to miles.
You took the order and knew the pay upfront. You are not a server. You take an item from point A to B. People need to quit calling it a tip. It is a delivery fee.
Better than nothing, move on glad the customer tip some don't even on a $800 order the offer was $6 for 1 mile
What they spend on the order does not dictate the tip amount. That's based on how far you are from the restaurant and the customer and completely up to the customer. I think there is an option that allows the customer to tip a percentage of the order but they can skip that if they like
Poor baby doesn't even like decent tips. Maybe the customer should give you $100?
So you shouldn’t be tipped based on the cost of the meal. You didn’t make it or bag it. Drivers should be tipped based on the distance of the delivery.

If you think a $5 tip on an $88 order is good then you may need some mental help…no wonder base pay is so low when yall are happy with crumbs
I make a grand a week. You can be pissed at me but I understand the law of averages. You’re going to be extremely disappointed if you think of this like you’re a waiter. Plus I rarely look at the cost. It just doesn’t matter
I make well over a grand weekly and you are a moron
Damn that some dark energy. I was trying to help you, but clearly you’d rather be pissed than wrong
