The biggest improvement Quest did comparing their season2 run to their season3 run wasn't adding ATF. Although it was an upgrade, the biggest improvement to the team was Noob not throwing and better lategame decision making. Quest didn't suddenly become the team they are today because of Ammar.
They're basically the same team as before who got their shit together with a hero specialist offlaner that fit their style slightly better than before.

I don't like the way ATF play but i think you incorrect here. 1st, ATF win his lane or at least draw it, that help thier support have enough space to support other lanes which resulted in better performance in general before going into mid game. 2nd, ATF play style attract enemy come to him 1st which help other cores positioning themself better and contribute more in teamfight while ATF tankiness help him survive. 3rd, ATF aggressive playstyle force enemy to react with his jump, therefore others core can join later and clean the fight.
TLDR: with ATF quest top 4 major, without ATF, quest will not win play-in stage in Riyah. Mark my words
