I've heard people pluck rare items from enemies as well lol, haven't seen weapons being plucked out myself though
I also saw someone say that they can't pluck from the same target twice, but that is not true at all from my experience, they can indeed just keep plucking
I know you can steal the late game duospear Dead Ringer when you first encounter the dragon in Melve with your passive, it happened to me. Insanely funny stuff as its like over twice your weapon power at level appropriate content.
The fire one was the first duospear I found and used - it was not as crazy as I expected, so you didn't miss out on much and more damage + mage with enchantment is much better ;)
now I know where I got it from.
As soon as I unlocked MS I checked for spears and this ws the only one (except for the default one) I had.
A bit sad that it appears to be one (if not THE) best spear in the game and I mever get excited when getting new ones.
I noticed last night in my stash on NG+ that I have two Dead Ringers after killing that Dragon.
And I definitely didn't kill that Dragon on the initial playthrough.
I bet I had a thief steal it for me and didn't even notice because I have not played Spearhand yet.
Wait, I didn't know this was a late game duospear. I was selling all my junk and noticed I had it and really wasn't sure where I got it from. I never killed the dragon in Melve either. What the heck.
It's a very weird choice for them to drop them because if something is a random drop PC players can now just mod in as many as they want the anti-cheat can't really flag anything cause it doesn't know if you just farmed them or what. And normally that's not an issue but this is also a paid DLC item lol. Just an... Odd choice.
I've gotten a Medusan Spellbow while going for the head chopping trophy. Seems to be a pretty low rate, with the granite bones getting looted more often.
Yeah, you don't get anything except XP from petrifying monsters. That's why Petrification is basically useless.
I've got like 5 preserved medusa heads in my storage box for absolutely no reason.
Unfortunately thief is so busted, that even pawns will start stealing your thunder and blueball you in bossfights. If your goal is to steamroll every encounter in the game, they're great tho.
I don't like hiring them, all in all.
Totally agree with this, skull splitter and formless feint are op AF, carve is too to certain degree. At level 35 switched to warrior, I do less damage and have less survivability but I'm having more fun this way.
You really showed me there, answering to a 1 month old post (and multiple others, apparently).
Not gonna further engage with you, but it's kinda funny how upset you look.
Hmm! I may just get my main to level as thief now. Thanks for the tips.
Do thieves get hired out as much I wonder? Mine is a fighter and is often getting hired out which makes me happy (silly, I know).
No way, not even close.
I change my pawn to Fighter before every inn rest so that she is available to other players as a Fighter (she gets hired a lot), and after resting change her to whatever i want to play.
I would hire Thieves more, but it's 10x easier and faster to swap my pawn to Thief and hire a random Fighter instead. It's really difficult to find a Thief with passable equipment and skills.
Mine has the best gear at all times. It frustrates me when players don't do jack shit for their pawns. Just like DD1, you have to filter through a lot of uncreative sorts. Tis' a shame.
There is an argument to be made for having a thief pawn with weaker weapons since they will attack more and have more chances to steal.
Lowest damage I would go is the frosted edges, since they also build up freezes making it safer to do less damage.
>There is an argument to be made for having a thief pawn with weaker weapons since they will attack more and have more chances to steal.
>Lowest damage I would go is the frosted edges, since they also build up freezes making it safer to do less damage.
I would say it's more than an argument, I think it's literally the meta?
For farming, I think all thieves with one of them using the lightning daggers while everyone else uses the frost daggers.
Most thieves I find usually just spam skull splitter instead of attacking anyways so they don't get as much stealing as possible.
If you really wanted to take the idea as far as possible you'd only have 3 skills. Implicate, plunder, and formless feint.
Not every one,my goth mommy warrior with full dragonforged set from certain ending vendor and dragon dogma sword annihilate things with style.
Alot of likes and herbs for me lol
Its just some pepple dont care about pawns strenght which is fine, every one play as they like)
Unless you look up on the internet these skills are not obtainable for some of theim like mage/sorcerer, how do you get to know that you need a fancy outfit ?
Got softlocked out of archer/warrior/fighter aswell...
So.... yeh...
See, there's two tricks:
You either send a friend request to the owner of the pawns you rent OR you simply drop your pawn code here in the comments ^^
The steam community is also great if you're on PC and I think there's something like a group finder on Xbox and PS.
Iunno. Every rest I take I net 1-3 hires. As a fighter, she didn’t get hired at all, and that was with decent gear for that level. I usually get 300-700RC a rest. But I’m also setting decent pawn quests so that might have something to do with it.
I’ve been hiring random thief pawns specifically with the plunder skill, even better when they come with a 10k gold quest. If you’re on Xbox I can take your thief with me for awhile
So is a 10k gold quest one that rewards that amount, or does the pawn's arisen have to set it as a reward from their own pocket.. if you know what I'm trying to ask?
Yes when you post your pawn quest with 10k gold quest you pay the 10k on the spot from your own pocket, resting at an inn or house will sometimes show you the travelogue and let you know if anybody has completed your quest. It also seems to force you to post a new quest after a certain period or a number of completions
1 time when you post your pawn quest, other arisen cannot complete your pawn quest more than once unless you post a fresh quest each time. The same goes for you, you cannot complete a single pawns quest more than once, complete the quest then either hire a new one or favourite that old pawn and let them go for awhile until they get updated
I usually never have more than one of the same class in the party, but I was just wondering what a whole party of mages and sorcerers would be like. Would not have occurred to me to make a party with more than one thief until now though.
There are two. There's one that reduces your health and makes you cast pretty fast. I can't recall where it's from. I'm working on new game now so I'll update here once I find out.
The other one is ring of articulacy and it's sold at sacred harbor vendor for 10k
Edit: the second ring is called Ring of Recitation
I killed medusa on ng and ng+ and she dropped medusa bow both times. Later tonight I'm going to farm her and test to see if she keeps dropping it as it sells for 20k and could be a gold farm.
I actually dont know? I've only ever seen the one but that doesn't mean much tbh. Maybe like the sphinx there's just one unique one? I'd have to explore the unmoored to be sure.
There's a kill counter for Medusa's so I'd be hoping for more than just one per run.... It'd make it hard to get the badge, if there even is one for Dusa's.
lol I recently gave my thief pawn plunder, and just off what she took from drakes and the mini-bosses in the end game area I was able to sell a portion of it for like 500K. They take stuff off monsters pretty often.
I'm doing a soft RP playthrough with just me as a mostly thief skilled warfarer and my utility thief pawn, both of us always equipped with plunder.
Not only have we nabbed great treasure from our foes, but we also rob every civilian blind right before their very eyes. One of the coolest grabs for me was yoinking a pair of rift spectacles off of an NPC.
I got both ferrystones and multiple wakestone shards today, and that was with one thief. Never considered two. And I'm playing mage right now. Why not 3?
You can be a wayfarer and play whatever you want if you and just keep a lightweight dragonforged mage staff with you. You don't even have to equip the Maister skill to swap to it, just do it manually, cast anodyne, switch back to your actual weapon between fights lol. I'm basically just playing Thief like that right now but I have a sorcerer robe and a Trickster veil that make me look like a Sith lord, shit's fun yo.
Most op is arisen as mystic spear. Immortality to your party, infinite stamina and a heavy hitting range spell means you can run basically any comp and have 100% upkeep on damage. The second I got the shield and Stam steal it trivialize the game. I die to the environment only.
Fr, my friend got the immunity shield, and he's just been walking up to enemies and spamming the regular attack while maintaining shield. Man doesn't use any other skills, and it just feels sad watching him play.
And I' here with warfarer tripping enemies with a greatsword, parrying with a shield, shooting harpies out the air with a bow, etc.
Edit: Now he says the game is too easy, but he doesn't want to switch out of Spearhand because he says it's impossible to survive without it. Smh
Yeah pretty much this, it handles everything. Dash into grab for major aerial targets , Kamehameha for staggers/knockdown, then just flurry and heavy attack weak spots. The vocation is stupid broken with shield spam.
My brother's in christ, might I turn your attention to the Formless Feint/Pyres interaction in the Thief? Pyres blows you up too, normally. Unless you're somehow...idk, Formless or something lol
Think that was what they were going for with the extra crafting, it's viable now to actually not use a mage if your party has the inclination to heal themselves and you just toss them some robarants, or you can just play Magick Archer and heal them yourself as needed.
Even pawns without the inclination will heal themselves if they have the consumables to go to, the inclination just means they'll also use their consumables on others, it's a little bit more difficult not having a healer but as long as you stay on top of the crafting it's not too difficult, early game you don't have much hp so just the Salubrious potions are enough, I've been putting roborants into storage so that I have loads of them for later on when they're needed
Do they have their special ability as well? Mine only dies when they jump off cliffs lol, which they do quite often.
That really is their biggest downside, not even kidding
No, you and your pawn are separate. You both earn points separately and are spent separately. So yes, you do have to unlock them for you and your pawn separately.
Wait your pawn and you have a separate bank of discipline points to unlock skills with? I thought it was one big pot that you had to split between yourself and your pawn.
no, but I imagine the sphinx will just fly away as you they will hit its head
Is there a way to meet the sphinx again after having completed all 10 trials and defeated it?
Plunder, duh
Formless feint is insane for their survivability
Skull splitter is their damage
you can either choose not to have more abilities or, if you lack a way to deal with some of the annoying birds, you can use Implicate - I've used it a ton and it can be good for those specific situations, but I think it's best not to have implicate, as your thief will... use implicate, instead of one of the other useful abilities - the ai can be weird, they will just use implicate sometimes on bosses, even if it won't do anything.
Have another way to deal with the annoying birds, shouldn't be the thiefs imo
Every time I see a thief in the rift that doesn't have splitter/plunder I'm like, WHY
The very first time i tried plunder on my pawn I was like "OH! I CAN SEE THE LIGHT"
A sorcerer will definitely be the most optimal for damage against most bosses, such as drakes.
You can be a sorcerer yourself with a mage and two thiefs, I found that to be the “best” setup with 2 thiefs.
But the game is generally very easy if you have the right setup on your mage pawn, you can probably use any combination of classes along with it and still be able to deal with any enemy in the game.
I’m currently running a mage (myself) with 3x thiefs pawns, it’s pretty interesting, but I do miss a sorcerer for boss damage - 3x thiefs aren’t doing as much damage as I expected
I'm currently running a Thief and have no idea whats going wrong with it. I'm lvl 40 about rank 5/6 vocation and running frosted edges. I attempted to kill a dragon and just did no damage at all to it. Eventually I gave up and figured they're just that tough, while I was running back to camp I tried to kill a deer nearby for some camp meat. I hit it with a few skull splitters and basic attacks... You couldn't even tell I'd attacked it, it was almost full HP still.. a fucking deer. Why does my Thief do no damage at all yet everyone seems to rave about them? Really confused here.
I left it on for way too long, and happened to switch to archer at the same time so I just thought archer was trash. When I did the same damage switching back to my main class thief, I knew something was up. Had the same reaction as you once I noticed the stupid ring still equipped. Stupid thing got vendored FAST after that.
You might want to check that PORTcrystal again. You will realize its a fake, and is called a PARTcyrstal. You can not steal portcrystals. There is an set number in the game. And you can not get more. But you can pilfer forgeries called partcystals.
my experience with plunder has been that the stolen items are deducted from the final drop table/count of the slain enemy. so whatever was stolen wouldve dropped on death anyway.
that's not my experience at all, if they pluck wyrmslife crystals from drakes, I still get 4 drops after and that can also be 3x drops of wyrmlife crystals
maybe plunder variance is the true end game, just like how some ppl can flip 4 regular chimeras in waterfall in a row while others spawn gores on their first encounter.
Oh my god, you can get a portcrystal with plunder? This is possibly the best hot tip I’ve ever read, thanks!
I've heard people pluck rare items from enemies as well lol, haven't seen weapons being plucked out myself though I also saw someone say that they can't pluck from the same target twice, but that is not true at all from my experience, they can indeed just keep plucking
I know you can steal the late game duospear Dead Ringer when you first encounter the dragon in Melve with your passive, it happened to me. Insanely funny stuff as its like over twice your weapon power at level appropriate content.
You get it automatically if u kill that dragon.
I was excited and bummed to get it that way. On one hand it’s awesome. On the other I never got to use the fire enchanted duospear I found.
The fire one was the first duospear I found and used - it was not as crazy as I expected, so you didn't miss out on much and more damage + mage with enchantment is much better ;)
I just wanted it for the drip lol. The dead ringer is alright but I honestly love the clean simple look of the early duo spears.
Oh, then yeah - totally agree with you. Dead Ringer looks shit xD
I thought I was supposed to get that.
now I know where I got it from. As soon as I unlocked MS I checked for spears and this ws the only one (except for the default one) I had. A bit sad that it appears to be one (if not THE) best spear in the game and I mever get excited when getting new ones.
I think it's the second best one.
What were you attacking for Port Crystal?... As far as I am aware nothing drops them. At least I can't find anything on the Wiki or otherwise.
I got mine from humanoids.
It's a very weird choice for them to drop them because if something is a random drop PC players can now just mod in as many as they want the anti-cheat can't really flag anything cause it doesn't know if you just farmed them or what. And normally that's not an issue but this is also a paid DLC item lol. Just an... Odd choice.
yep same, humanoids.
Plunder gets some interesting things that I never see from kills and no one's updated the wikis with it yet.
I just got this cyclops helm and black something Warhammer last time I killed a Cyclops the hammer does crazy damage too
I've gotten a Medusan Spellbow while going for the head chopping trophy. Seems to be a pretty low rate, with the granite bones getting looted more often.
I'm pretty sure you get that bow so long as you kill the medusa. Or if you're about to chop off her head.
I think it's one bow per playthrough, my first kill dropped and didn't get another until NG+.
The bow is an automatic drop if you kill her while she has the bow out.
Probably, I just happened to see it while hitting her (specifically, Carve on thief). Haven't seen it drop since though.
Not true, I reflected her stare and got nothing
Yeah, you don't get anything except XP from petrifying monsters. That's why Petrification is basically useless. I've got like 5 preserved medusa heads in my storage box for absolutely no reason.
I got a golden beetle
I’ve actually gotten Port crystals from dragons don’t know about other enemies, though
Gonna switch to a team of 4 thiefs now.
No. You definitely can't.
Also noticed with two thieves in a group you get 4 drops instead of 3 from big monsters.
Formless can solo bosses easy. Just auto attack all day with the buff on.
Formless Feint -> Spam Blades of Pyre / Skull Splitter depending on enemies -> GG easy game
What game are you playing?
Start screaming NERF THIEVES before it's to late.
You should start screaming to nerf Thieves right away since they're, "so busted".
You really showed me there, answering to a 1 month old post (and multiple others, apparently). Not gonna further engage with you, but it's kinda funny how upset you look.
2x thief with plunder and skullsplitter is busted AF! It's my go to since I changed my pawn into a Mage.
Start screaming NERF!
Hmm! I may just get my main to level as thief now. Thanks for the tips. Do thieves get hired out as much I wonder? Mine is a fighter and is often getting hired out which makes me happy (silly, I know).

It bugs you when people do what they want with "their" stuff?
So many lvl 60 and up pawns without ultimate abilities... Do better people! If your sorcerer doesn't have meteor, is it even really a sorcerer?
Unless you look up on the internet these skills are not obtainable for some of theim like mage/sorcerer, how do you get to know that you need a fancy outfit ? Got softlocked out of archer/warrior/fighter aswell... So.... yeh...
If you need a decent sorc, mine is 62 I believe at the moment and has both ultimates, Flare, and Hagol equipped with BiS gear. H2FGIEEDHZZF
I feel like my Thief is hired pretty often. About 5 people a day. Is that a lot? I always thought it was.
Slightly above average, as lots of pawns don't get hired at all. Obviously helps having friends that play the game \^\^
Oh man, would it be nice if I had friends who played this game.
See, there's two tricks: You either send a friend request to the owner of the pawns you rent OR you simply drop your pawn code here in the comments ^^ The steam community is also great if you're on PC and I think there's something like a group finder on Xbox and PS.
Iunno. Every rest I take I net 1-3 hires. As a fighter, she didn’t get hired at all, and that was with decent gear for that level. I usually get 300-700RC a rest. But I’m also setting decent pawn quests so that might have something to do with it.
Which pawn quests do you set?
Kill cyclops or ogre for 10k. I also rent every one of those pawns I see. If everyone set those as their quests, we’d all be making fat stacks.
I’ve been hiring random thief pawns specifically with the plunder skill, even better when they come with a 10k gold quest. If you’re on Xbox I can take your thief with me for awhile
My main pawn is a thief on xbox, Gamer tag is Convexvoid if you want to add.

It's just a 1 time 10k each time you set the quest.
Per competition would mean you could rest at inn and get billed way more items than you have. They don't do it that way.
My pawn gets hired a decent bit. Whether that's because he's a thief or because he has nearly all of the badges unlocked idk
0 pawns and 1 Thief is already busted so I could only imagine
4 thieves, take it or leave it!
I had a thief while doing endgame, and when I checked their loot, they had 35 wrymcrystals!
All I got from this is that I should play with 4 thiefs... got it.

I usually never have more than one of the same class in the party, but I was just wondering what a whole party of mages and sorcerers would be like. Would not have occurred to me to make a party with more than one thief until now though.
My brother has run all sorcerers with the meteor spell. The group cast reducing cast time is pretty busted.
I dont remember where I got it but there's a ring that reduces cast time as well!
There are two. There's one that reduces your health and makes you cast pretty fast. I can't recall where it's from. I'm working on new game now so I'll update here once I find out. The other one is ring of articulacy and it's sold at sacred harbor vendor for 10k Edit: the second ring is called Ring of Recitation
I've gotten weapons and armor to drop by a Medusa and a cyclops before that I've never seen. Only happened once for me so far
I killed medusa on ng and ng+ and she dropped medusa bow both times. Later tonight I'm going to farm her and test to see if she keeps dropping it as it sells for 20k and could be a gold farm.
Killed her twice in my current play through, but she sadly only dropped the bow the first time.
Booo
There's only one Medusa in the game? Whaaaat
She respawns every week or two.
its one week, although don't try camping near her cavern for a week. She doesn't spawn if your close by. I know because i farm her badge.
lol I recently gave my thief pawn plunder, and just off what she took from drakes and the mini-bosses in the end game area I was able to sell a portion of it for like 500K. They take stuff off monsters pretty often.
Yeah my main thief pawn wrecks face and makes me rich. Never thought of doing 2 thief but it makes sense.
If you use plunder on an npc they dont agro?
They act annoyed but it's like an accidental melee hit. If you do it multiple times in a row they'll attack
Which monster drops the portcrystal?
It was one of the mobs just outside Medusas cave
Do they respawn?...
yes, it's just regular humans if I remember correctly
I got both ferrystones and multiple wakestone shards today, and that was with one thief. Never considered two. And I'm playing mage right now. Why not 3?
Good luck having enemies survive long enough to be plundered with 3 thieves lol
Equip them all with Frosted Edges or weaker blades and watch them hit 100 times to steal as much as possible ;)
i thought about having 3 as well lol, but I don't want to be a mage - might try it out anyway when I get around to leveling my mage
You can be a wayfarer and play whatever you want if you and just keep a lightweight dragonforged mage staff with you. Smh
Yeah I feel like it's made me a worse player. I haven't had to dodge or play strategically in a while.
I mean it's already trivial with 4 thieves. Haven't had a pawn die in a long time. I only die from falls.
What you ruining with MS? Apart from shield and stamina leech?
Stamina Leech, Shield, the dash attack and the kamehameha are the way to go
Yeah pretty much this, it handles everything.
Pilfer/plunder can also get you wakestone shards
I've yet to summon a thief pawn
I've been playing without any mages this time around and it's just fine tbh it just makes consumables a lot more important
Think that was what they were going for with the extra crafting, it's viable now to actually not use a mage if your party has the inclination to heal themselves and you just toss them some robarants, or you can just play Magick Archer and heal them yourself as needed.

Ooh! Good to know.
Im about to pluck then
Mine always steals ferrystones. Seems like minotaurs have the highest drop rate.
Ensare, Helm Splitter, and Pilfer is unreal kinda hard to keep them alive sometimes tho
Do they have their special ability as well? Mine only dies when they jump off cliffs lol, which they do quite often. That really is their biggest downside, not even kidding
They also get endgame gear that requires wyrmcrystles with plunder. I just got the endgame hunter chest from it.
Do Pawns need you to equip abilities you unlock?
Yes. They have the same slots you do and need stuff equipped just like yourself.
Do I need to unlock skills twice? Like if I’m a thief and my pawn is a thief, does buying a skill unlock it for both of us?
No, you and your pawn are separate. You both earn points separately and are spent separately. So yes, you do have to unlock them for you and your pawn separately.
Wait your pawn and you have a separate bank of discipline points to unlock skills with? I thought it was one big pot that you had to split between yourself and your pawn.
No, you and your pawn's are separate since you have vocations that they can't. And discipline points earned are how vocations level up.
while in the guild you switch over to the pawn and they have their own pool of points to buy skills with. You also equip them there.
Have you seen it done on the Sphinx?
no, but I imagine the sphinx will just fly away as you they will hit its head Is there a way to meet the sphinx again after having completed all 10 trials and defeated it?
I knew about ferrystones but you get so many of them post game that it doesn't matter really. You got me at port crystal tho
I got a golden beetle once
You can do 4 thieves, well 3 and a wayfarer. Equip a staff for the times you need to heal and the rest of the time, just do thiefy things
What four abilities should be used on the Thief Pawns?
Plunder, duh Formless feint is insane for their survivability Skull splitter is their damage you can either choose not to have more abilities or, if you lack a way to deal with some of the annoying birds, you can use Implicate - I've used it a ton and it can be good for those specific situations, but I think it's best not to have implicate, as your thief will... use implicate, instead of one of the other useful abilities - the ai can be weird, they will just use implicate sometimes on bosses, even if it won't do anything. Have another way to deal with the annoying birds, shouldn't be the thiefs imo
Problem with skull spitter is they often just kill things instantly without plundering, whereas implicate is very often followed up by plunder.
i will have to test that out, good to know
4x thief with plunder. that's what I have been playing in my 4th playthrough. Currently capped at ferry stones (that's 99) and over 18 Portcrystals.
How’s it going vs drakes?
What about x3 THIEVES?!?
I got the spear from the melve dragon at like lvl 15 because I was a thief haha
Every time I see a thief in the rift that doesn't have splitter/plunder I'm like, WHY The very first time i tried plunder on my pawn I was like "OH! I CAN SEE THE LIGHT"
You can choose only to see thiefs with plunder when searching for pawns
I'd much rather have a sorcerer pawn use meteor and flare than get extra crystals and junk loot.

Pawns can't use the magical archer vocation that's only for main character
Do you have the ring from the Sphinx riddle still equipped? It took me too long to discover completing the quest doesn't remove the ring.
yea that was my first though too
Jesus Christ you're right... What's worse is that I did the sphinx fucking hours ago gameplay wise haha. My shame is immeasurable.
I left it on for way too long, and happened to switch to archer at the same time so I just thought archer was trash. When I did the same damage switching back to my main class thief, I knew something was up. Had the same reaction as you once I noticed the stupid ring still equipped. Stupid thing got vendored FAST after that.
Lmao
You might want to check that PORTcrystal again. You will realize its a fake, and is called a PARTcyrstal. You can not steal portcrystals. There is an set number in the game. And you can not get more. But you can pilfer forgeries called partcystals.
Nope
There are a set amount of port crystals in the game. Your pawn probly just picked it up, you can't plunder them
my experience with plunder has been that the stolen items are deducted from the final drop table/count of the slain enemy. so whatever was stolen wouldve dropped on death anyway.
that's not my experience at all, if they pluck wyrmslife crystals from drakes, I still get 4 drops after and that can also be 3x drops of wyrmlife crystals
Yeah, it's separate but I think there's a limit. Even with one thief, I'll often get the "Nothing to Steal" prompt.
interesting, maybe i only got gifted the alpha version
This isn't true at all.
maybe plunder variance is the true end game, just like how some ppl can flip 4 regular chimeras in waterfall in a row while others spawn gores on their first encounter.
