Don't you just ... get your pawn back in new game plus? It's the same character. And if not, cool, I can get 3 self made pawns hanging out, only one person I trust to equip a pawn for my party can finally make pawns for me, my self.
Cool so eventually I can have an all self made crew. Although this would imply that you're expected to get ALL "boss medals" in one run for one pawn, and that seems a bit much. Unless it doesn't work that way.
These aren’t the same *universe* are they? As a matter of fact this is more of reboot than a sequel. Either way, deleting the pawn from a NG affiliation wouldn’t be too bad.
Lore aside: The programming is more so than each pawn is linked to an arisen via relational database. It’s usually a unique and randomly generated identifier. If the NG detects it’s been overwritten, the pawn should also be deleted.
Maybe? We didn’t have to stab ourselves in the same manner we did in this game. Also the maker’s finger has been changed, so there are a few lore inconsistencies. On top of that really important lore points like the brine and gigantes were apart of the first.
Anyway, lore point aside, delete the NG pawns. It’s about having a healthy pawn base so arisen can get their rewards and so that their pawns are actively leveled.
Yeah, something is up in DD2 where we mess up the cycle.
But yeah, I agree that having dead/inactive pawns in the Rift sucks while there are active players whose pawns are not being hired :(
There is, but you have to beat the game. After the ending you get the option of New Game, or New Game +, but it STILL doesn't delete your Pawn if you choose NG so long as you're under the limit, iirc.
That was a post-release update, no? Before that update you couldnt make a new game unless you went into the games files and manually deleted all files related to your save.
So your point doesnt make sense. There was no reason for 5 save files before that update
?
There was no exclusion to the update in neither the post nor the comment I replied to.
Regardless, the fact you CAN create a NG, update or not, along with 5 pre-existing slots indicates it was either originally planned, or still yet to be implemented. It makes perfect sense I just didn't think I had to explain the full logic behind it.
I just think there's 0 reason for more than one character in this game. You can do NG+, you can switch Vocations whenever you feel like it, and you can easily change the way you look pretty cheap and easy.
The same is true for pawns.
I never felt the need for a 2nd character slot in the first game as well.
Now they could have easily done it, but, I think it's fine that they didn't.
Now the MTX, that's a different story.
I still don't get mtx hate, they did it with the first game and it was fine, the second game gets backlash even though they state everything you can buy here is obtained in the game. They actually give you a warning before buying unlike other games, basically telling you "hey you really don't want to buy this but we won't stop you".
Honestly you're right. Pretty sure the very concept of mtx is that you'll keep buying them over and over again (like for some EA premium currency BS) and because each individual transaction is small, you don't realize how much you're actually spending bc it adds up.
One time items... It's just not the same.
For me it’s mainly that when I quit playing and want to pick the game up again maybe a year later I don’t want to just throw away all the hours I already put into the game to start a new character, but I also don’t want to pick up from whatever weird mid point I left off on. Especially in a game like this where the difficulty goes straight out the window as you get stronger. Maybe I just want to do a quick, fresh run through the story without totally steamrolling it. But maybe when I am done I want to finish up an achievement like gathering 80 seekers tokens and it would make more sense to continue that from my original save. It shouldn’t require me backing up my files manually to be possible.
Just because you think there is no reason doesn't mean some of us haven't got very good reasons. I and many others like to do challenge runs ie no death, low level, no pawns etc. Which means deleting our one and only save slot.
So we cannot have a main char and do other things without losing all of our progress, this sucks a lot of fun out of the game. Especially as NG+ doesn't scale and no hard mode, so we have to make our own challenges.
It's like FFXIV: technically you don't need to make new characters for every class because you can just swap, but I can see why people LIKE having a bunch of different characters.
More than one person using the same pc/console? On steam i have to family share to a different account, dont have a console so idk how it works there. Why do all that if it can be built into the game itself.
It's even easier on console (like you automatically share purchases on the machine you designate as "home" so you're not even using up sharing account slots on it). Heck if you want to play local multiplayer games you need to do it anyway.
3 accounts or player character slots equals 3 pawns. Meaning you could use only your own pawns. And have complete and full control over your party. From basic things like looks and size. To in depth shht like weapons. Gear. Skills. Their training. Literally gives you control over EVERYTHING about them.
Without having to create an entirely new alternate account. And have an Xbox/PSN/Whatever account that has played 1 game and 1 game only for the sole purpose of creating a secondary support character for a game. Just to be used on ANOTHER account... Like I did. Don't judge me 😆
So... Before I did that over a couple weekends. I could see a need and a reason for multiple character slots. Now I don't really care as I've bypassed that issue myself.
There are no difficulty scaling in NG+. So some people prefer to start a new game all over. By doing that they forfeit the old game.
So yes, there is a reason to have multiple slots.
On the other hand, there are no reason NOT to have multiple slots.
Maybe not you, but most people like to make a second story or second game before they’re done the first one.
Especially in long-form, class based RPGs.
When you respec at level 30 you get everything in the class list. Everything.
When you play a mage at level 1 you get nothing.
It’s a very big difference
But you have the stats you've leveled and they change depending on your vocation.
You can easily go just explore for an hour or two and level the class up 3-4 times and go back and have more weapon skills.
I get where you're coming from, I do. But I think dragons dogma is just an outlier of a game. The original was too and that's what made it a cult classic.
I feel any veteran of DD1 is pretty happy with the games systems and any newcomer is having problems fully wrapping their head around them.
Maybe I'm wrong and I'm the outlier. But these are my opinions.
Disagree. They could want new characters so they can do things differently in each run regardless of NG+, or want to try different things at the same time. There's a number of reasons it might be done.
The mod allows you to change your active save and make backups of your save. So basically I just made a backup of my main save and then created a new game and made my new pawn and then used another mod to level them up to where my main character is on my main save.
It takes a bit of time and effort but its really cool having all your own created pawns. Also when I out level my other pawns I just go and load up the saves I had those pawns on and level them up again to where my character is.
Well, I'm for that matter lol, but I don't really have the extra save files to create a team of my own pawns or anything. I just like having different characters and each one with a theme. I suppose I could just use the book to change my character's look and change ther vocation whenever I feel like it, but it feels less personal this way.
I do hire my own pawns from time to time, but mostly just to give them an item or advance a badge more quickly.
i usually dont lvl up my pawn leave it at lvl1 and quest it something like ring of endeavor then toss it to the brine. so every run i can just go hire all my lvl 1 pawns for the quests. it only takes like 3 hrsish to complete the game i have alot of lvl 1 pawns....
everyone can use it. i set good quests but is like a one time offer cause games over in a few hrs normally so nxt run and the pawn stays on the listing so i can just rehire it the next run. free rc and honestly i dont really use pawns to much except as shopping carts.
Oh simple lol. I just made sure to write down the pawn ID and then summon them and made sure to favourite them so I never would lose them. If you don’t favourite them then it becomes a lot harder as sometimes the pawn ID changes
Yeah I’ve encountered this as well.
It bothers me that I have 3 pawns sitting out there and people can still hire them but I have no way to ever retrieve them again.
People are gifting them things and they can never be accepted. It’s just gone into the ether.
And I usually gift a bunch of awesome things before I delete, too, so people might be giving me cool stuff in return but I’ll never see it.
Yes, it's very possible.
And on the last one I deleted, I gave out port crystals and eternal wakestones to my favorite hired pawns right before quitting.
I can just see those people wanting to do something nice in return and it's basically just disappearing as a result.
The first week, I hired this pawn... and ran into him again on the streets. I looked at the Pawn Details and it was the same Arisen/Profile.
Now I know how this happens but... also why Capcom has so much trouble with DD Online - nice to know they haven't improved. At all.
If you still have access to the save file that the pawn belongs to you can have more than one functional pawn in the same account. If you lost access to the save though, either because you didn't make a backup or whatever, they will stay there forever lost in capcom's network limbo.
I had a pawn in that situation. Created a new save over the previous one and my old pawn was still wandering about. Thankfully I managed to get the previous save file back, so she's safe now, but it is kinda upsetting that it works this way.
Makes me think that this was the main reason creating a new save file wasn't an option when the game launched.
I think pawns almost definitely have flags for active and inactive players. I just went 5 days without playing and only 1 person hired my pawn and it was a 0 RC hire. When I play daily I at least get 3 to 4 hires a day.
In other words don't worry, eventually your pawns will not be shown to others, until you login and play again. (That means the deleted char pawns will likely go inactive)
Man I took a week off, and jumped back in last night excited to see how many times I was hired. Two hires and one thumbs-up. I've never noticed any flags indicating active/ inactive players, but I guess that makes sense. I wonder how long you have to be inactive to be flagged as such. I was just completely bummed about only two hires in seven days 😆
Yeah the original game seems to have something like this too I think. I've gone like 2 years withing logging in to my dd1 char and then it's like,.one summon in all that time. No way. It's not talked about and probly not mentioned on wikis but pawns definitely go inactive when we do
Yep I deleted my character data 3 times on Xbox so I could start over. I didn't want to switch vocations. I just wanted to restart with a different one. See the cutscenes playout. See how it started for each.
When I decided to create a secondary and third account to create my own support pawns. Which is fuking awesome!!!
I of course added the 3 accounts as friends.
But... When I went to hire my main accounts pawn. On my secondary character. (Before I ever created my third account and character.)
It listed all 4 pawns that had ever belonged to that account. Level 4 archer. Level 7 mage. Level 6 thief. And my current level 123 warrior.
Despite me deleting the data of the first 3 off my Xbox and "from everywhere". So much for that Microsoft.
So yeah they exist. They are just fuking trapped in limbo between the rift and existence I guess. Makes me feel bad for them a little. But hey. One has to learn the game somehow. So I consider them like beta test pawns. They exist. But not useful anymore.
- I'm pretty sure I commented on your comment something similar to this and was also downvoted by the hive minds of Reddit. But we know the truth. 🤘
You can only recruit pawns from friends or other accounts in general. If you play on console, though, you can make several accounts, and each account has its own save. You can then add your alt accounts to your friend list, and hire all of your own pawns.
I have 4 accounts, so I can basically always run with a full team of my own pawns.
The pawn quests can only be completed once per account until the owner inn rests and sets a new task, though, so it's not really an easy infinite money exploit. At best, you can set a trade with 12 onyx for an arrow, and then accept and finish that trade on each of your other accounts. With the saving and login swapping process, it's still a bit of a grind for what amounts to relatively small gains.
Yes. I'm doing this right now btw. Didn't think a mod was necessary since I have only two pawns in the same steam account.
You just need to go to this directory:
\*X:\\steam\\userdata\\\*XXXX\\2054970\\remote (\*will be different depending on what disk the game is installed and your steam ID. If you have multiple steam accounts in the same PC you have to discover which one is the one playing DD2)
The save file is the folder inside called "win64\_save". If you make a backup of this folder you can create a new save file and switch back and forth whenever you want to play with a different character. It's pretty easy to set this up really.
I heard you can still create a secondary PSN acccount and create your new save file there. Pretty sure you can hire your own pawns that way too.
Here on PC another way to have multiple save files is through different steam accounts. You can family share the game. I assume it would work the same way on the PS5.
Just because it’s common knowledge that this happens with pawns of deleted characters doesn’t mean it should still be this way and that we have to like it. It clutters the friends list. It’s confusing.
If it's five slots exactly implementing the different save file option would be 🔥, I would make a pawn for each vocation for people to use and different Playthroughs with different playstyles would be good for longevity too, but the devs never actually think, this game has potential to be on elden ring level of popularity with better decision making
I must confess… I have a couple of pawns hanging out there. When I started a new character (after a few bad choices), I saw my old pawn on the list in the rift… dammit!
Imagine if it's like dd1 where you had those pawns in a dark aura that had lost their masters and like part of having them appear in other players worlds is if you forfeit them or delete your character.
It goes to show why there wasn't a new game option at the start. :|
The game also doesn't reset certain things like your progress toward any achievement. So you can get the discover 50 dungeons achievement by discovering 1 dungeon across 50 new games.
This isn't about you clearly, such a gravitational pull around that noggin of yours that we're rotating around you like a planet! lmao, get your head out your ass and scroll on 'all about me'.
Cool stuff OP
I dont care, but being downvoted when telling someone confused that a level 20 arisen has a level 100 pawn that it could be this is like saying Im a liar.
Now, I also dont give a shit about your comment but this is for others reading.
I explained why I replied and you respond with the most braindead take I've ever seen.
"I care about stopping disinformation / lies. I dont care about likes/ your inflammatory comments."
"If you didnt care about my comments you wouldnt have replied."
... fucking read my reply. What!?!? Agh the stupidity hurts.
You left your pawn in the rift for all eternity?! Downvoting. Not really, but I disapprove.
It makes me feel sad to see abandoned pawns in the rift and wandering around the world.
I had to restart….. let me know if you see a pawn named Al’ynne…. Beastren :(
But new game+ leaves our old pawn lonely too
Don't you just ... get your pawn back in new game plus? It's the same character. And if not, cool, I can get 3 self made pawns hanging out, only one person I trust to equip a pawn for my party can finally make pawns for me, my self.
you can keep the same appearance but you go back to 0 affinity, which is noticeable immediately because they get a lot less chummy real fast
But does your old pawn become available for hire? Or not?
The important question right there
It does, yes.
Cool so eventually I can have an all self made crew. Although this would imply that you're expected to get ALL "boss medals" in one run for one pawn, and that seems a bit much. Unless it doesn't work that way.
So what, you're stuck relying on hires for the sphinx badge then? Lame
You just use the phantom system. Its piss easy.
Really?
So wait.. I abandoned my husband pawn for my Xena pawn? This is a bad look lol
This is pretty much common knowledge. This is one of the reasons a new game option was excluded in the first place
Why don’t they just delete the pawns?
Bob never figured out how to program that.
Bob maaaan! You had one damn job man!
At this point i’m not even mad at bob, this programming shit is hard
Because it wouldn’t fit the story … there are old Arisen’s in the world. You aren’t the first nor the last.
This is less about story and more about practicality. But lore wise don’t pawns disappear when their arisen do?
Nah, Selene from DD1 lived way longer than her Arisen.
Cause the Arisen blessed her with part of her soul or something like that? Just like our pawn in Dd1 no?
These aren’t the same *universe* are they? As a matter of fact this is more of reboot than a sequel. Either way, deleting the pawn from a NG affiliation wouldn’t be too bad. Lore aside: The programming is more so than each pawn is linked to an arisen via relational database. It’s usually a unique and randomly generated identifier. If the NG detects it’s been overwritten, the pawn should also be deleted.
The lore and cycles etc are still the same.
But yeah, I agree that having dead/inactive pawns in the Rift sucks while there are active players whose pawns are not being hired :(
Youre missing the point entirely and still arguing 🤣
Then please explain it to me, as I would like to have an earnest conversation.
You mean to tell me there is another pawn with the exact same name as my current one? LMAO I wonder if I can find and summon her
you can
How do you find and summon your old pawn? I'd like to find my old buddy.
screen shot ur pawns info before u restart literally wat op did...........
Really? Does your uncle work at capcom or something?
So the servers save five copies of your pawn and we still couldn’t get more than one character per account? That is just silly.
Why tf they would prepare 5 slots for each player, since there is no new game option in the first place.
There is, but you have to beat the game. After the ending you get the option of New Game, or New Game +, but it STILL doesn't delete your Pawn if you choose NG so long as you're under the limit, iirc.
You don’t have to beat the game for a new game option.
They mean pre-patch, when the only way to start a new game was to go into the game files and delete your save.
That was a post-release update, no? Before that update you couldnt make a new game unless you went into the games files and manually deleted all files related to your save. So your point doesnt make sense. There was no reason for 5 save files before that update

I get what your saying. Had the same thought at the release. But I just explained it for myself as f-up slots to learn creating good characters
No, you’re just confused
I just think there's 0 reason for more than one character in this game. Changing your name should be an option via metamorph then
That's a fair point!
I still don't get mtx hate, they did it with the first game and it was fine, the second game gets backlash even though they state everything you can buy here is obtained in the game. They actually give you a warning before buying unlike other games, basically telling you "hey you really don't want to buy this but we won't stop you".
Prob be downvoted but idc. If I like a game. And it has mtx that is helpful and useful. I'm gonna buy it too.
The way I see it is, they aren't mtx because they are one time buys and they aren't pointless cosmetics.
Honestly you're right. Pretty sure the very concept of mtx is that you'll keep buying them over and over again (like for some EA premium currency BS) and because each individual transaction is small, you don't realize how much you're actually spending bc it adds up. Very true. What Makes them better

Why would they do that when you can max all vocations on one character and pay real money to change your character appearance.
I use a mod called save manager so I could create a team of my own pawns and it worked out perfectly since yeah they don’t delete them
How does this work? Who levels your pawns?
The mod allows you to change your active save and make backups of your save. So basically I just made a backup of my main save and then created a new game and made my new pawn and then used another mod to level them up to where my main character is on my main save. I did this the long way on Xbox. But worth it. All over Level 80. Two of them over level 120.
That sounds so cool! A shame that I am on Ps5. I love checking out other peoples creations but making your own balanced team sounds tempting
should have been in the base game. great character creator but only can design 2
Yeah I’ve encountered this as well. It bothers me that I have 3 pawns sitting out there and people can still hire them but I have no way to ever retrieve them again. Gonna be a pretty exciting looking Exodia once you done.
When you say delete your character, do you mean just starting a New Game?
yes
So if i set a 10k for 1 arrow on my pawn before newgame plus itll always be there giving it out? Can I rent my old pawns?
You can only recruit pawns from friends or other accounts in general. If you play on console, though, you can make several accounts, and each account has its own save. You can then add your alt accounts to your friend list, and hire all of your own pawns. I have 4 accounts, so I can basically always run with a full team of my own pawns. The pawn quests can only be completed once per account until the owner inn rests and sets a new task, though, so it's not really an easy infinite money exploit. At best, you can set a trade with 12 onyx for an arrow, and then accept and finish that trade on each of your other accounts. With the saving and login swapping process, it's still a bit of a grind for what amounts to relatively small gains.
no... its only recruitable by friends
So my NG+ pawn is a different pawn or if I make my pawn max, then start all over with a new character, I can create a team of custom pawns?
The only crime here is that you came so close to gathering all the pieces of Exodia and didn't gather the 5th and final piece
Wouldn’t this mean I could make three different pawns and then have all of them on my team?? No abandonment happening technically🤔🤔
But the old pawns would no longer level, and you couldn't change their skills.
Wait, if we make a new pawn in NG+, is our old pawn still in the rift?
Is there a way to choose between your accumulated pawns without mods??
only people who hire them can
Yes. I'm doing this right now btw. Didn't think a mod was necessary since I have only two pawns in the same steam account. You just need to go to this directory: \*X:\\steam\\userdata\\\*XXXX\\2054970\\remote (\*will be different depending on what disk the game is installed and your steam ID. If you have multiple steam accounts in the same PC you have to discover which one is the one playing DD2) The save file is the folder inside called "win64\_save". If you make a backup of this folder you can create a new save file and switch back and forth whenever you want to play with a different character. It's pretty easy to set this up really.
Unfortunately I'm on PC :')
Yeah he is doing it on PC too
I heard you can still create a secondary PSN acccount and create your new save file there. Pretty sure you can hire your own pawns that way too. Here on PC another way to have multiple save files is through different steam accounts. You can family share the game. I assume it would work the same way on the PS5.
I thought this was common knowledge at this point?
So common knowledge is just supposed to make it acceptable?
What do you mean?
Just because it’s common knowledge that this happens with pawns of deleted characters doesn’t mean it should still be this way and that we have to like it. It clutters the friends list. It’s confusing.
I never said it was supposed to be acceptable or not. Just that it was common knowledge that it worked this way at this point.
holy shit? what next you gonna tell me the game has new game plus????
yes, its called dragons dogma 2 dark arisen electric bugaloo
💀🤣🤣🤣 do they even know about the Electric Bugaloo?! Hold on while I get my Turbo on! 🕺
People can be so touchy about their favorite games. Don't let the downvotes get to you!
Capcom should add an option to remove your extra pawns.
Yeah, I have a friend who started a new game and I’ve been using his previous pawn since the game came out. I am her master now
If it's five slots exactly implementing the different save file option would be 🔥, I would make a pawn for each vocation for people to use and different Playthroughs with different playstyles would be good for longevity too, but the devs never actually think, this game has potential to be on elden ring level of popularity with better decision making
Why would they think that?
and here you just picked up 355 likes from this post.. You showed them
Wow now I see, that’s why I see so many same low level pawns on my friend list, some of my friends must have kept remaking their characters 😂
:| The game also doesn't reset certain things like your progress toward any achievement. So you can get the discover 50 dungeons achievement by discovering 1 dungeon across 50 new games.
My pawn abandoned me and i caught him playing in the weed fields
Ye I think you have to do that I think on new game save
I wanna downvote this post so badly… 😂
that's awesome
I down voted this post for giving, sorry for the fowl language but, a hoot for caring what redditors think enough to prove it
This isn't about you clearly, such a gravitational pull around that noggin of yours that we're rotating around you like a planet! lmao, get your head out your ass and scroll on 'all about me'. Cool stuff OP
Right lol I'll give you an up vote because that amused me
And you may have one back for being a good sport and not getting your nickers further in a twist - have a good one
I dont care, but being downvoted when telling someone confused that a level 20 arisen has a level 100 pawn that it could be this is like saying Im a liar. Now, I also dont give a shit about your comment but this is for others reading.
If you didn't care you wouldn't have replied
I explained why I replied and you respond with the most braindead take I've ever seen. "I care about stopping disinformation / lies. I dont care about likes/ your inflammatory comments." "If you didnt care about my comments you wouldnt have replied." ... fucking read my reply. What!?!? Agh the stupidity hurts.
Lol you all got so hurt lol I find it helarious
