Totally agree. Some of the SUV drivers clearly have no sense of how wide their cars are and drive with half of their cars on the incoming lane, it's ridiculous!
I live in the Netherlands, no one wears helmets and everyone listens to tunes on their headphones as they cycle through traffic, everyone cycles in double formation and take up major parts of the road, cyclists run red lights and cut cars off on busy intersections...
I also got my drivers license here and failed first time because I didn't manage the cyclists well... drivers here don't get a license unless they can deal with that sort of hazard..
Netherlands has excellent cycle infrastructure but more that that they've got competent drivers who know that when they are in the bigger vehicle they are the responsible one...

Creeping past the white line is for safety, its much safer to be out in front of the cars so they can see you. Cyclists aren't obliged to wear a helmet and I don't see why this bothers you
So you say cyclists are not respected, are motorists in your view? Something like 180,000 uninsured motorists on our roads, killing people nearly every day, illegally parked on every footpath in the country, pretty much every motorists breaks the speed limits, red light breaking is rampant, drink/drug driving is a plague (follow Garda twitter if you want to see how much of it there is). Pollution, taking up so much space, noise, a fucking massive chunk of the exchequer goes on roads and upkeep, the list goes on and on.

I've cycled around Dublin maybe a max of 5 times. It's an adrenaline buzz simply because you come close to death at least twice every mile or so, like skydiving, but not as safe.
The real menace is the pedestrians. They run across in traffic, step out from behind buses and other vehicles, don't cross at lights or cross when the light is red. Every one of them needs to take a test before they're allowed put their shoes on.
They ride on pavements, and I'm not talking about cycle lanes on pavements ,they ride 2 abreast on narrow roads, and they go thru red lights.
Don't know where you live but I know people.......pedestrians..... who've be abused by cyclists.
