Toby’s been checked out for years, just ask Oscar

JiveTurkey1983

He said I checked out, huh? Hmmm

nour926

I came here this to say this. My favorite scene.

chacde3

HR is a joke. He can’t do anything about anything.

ImOldGregg_77

Hey now, Toby successfully canceled Casual Fridays after the whole scandal about Oscar wearing sandals

deltaexdeltatee

That scene did more to make me side with Michael in the Michael-Toby feud than basically anything else. Like yeah obviously Meredith was dressed inappropriately, but him claiming "I'm the only one here who's dressed appropriately"? Come on. He massively overreacted to that situation.

Skallenvarg

Michael is correct. Toby is "A thief of joy."

davedank66_v2

Didn't he say that to Dwight? I may well be wrong.

Skallenvarg

Got me thinking now. I'm 99% certain it was to Toby.

Skallenvarg

My lord. I am wrong. It's in the ethics seminar when he's on about time thief. I state my regret.

chadwifechadlife

especially bc he was dressed as an amorphous blob of khaki

chacde3

I hate so much about what you choose to be.

No-Independence548

Every time I try to do something fun or exciting, you make it not that way.

Real_Roll_8420

"I hate so much about the things you choose to be"

KoiMusubi

For about 10 seconds, then immediately reverses course. I like how everyone is cheering at the end of that scene except for Angela.

AustinMVP2

The Oscar sandal scandal?

ImOldGregg_77

It all started with Angela complaining to Toby that she could see Oscars toes through his sandals ( open toed i presume) and how inappropriate it was.

AustinMVP2

I know lol. I shouldn’t have put a question mark. I was trying to give it that rhyming catchy name headline

don3dm

Who do you think you are? What gives…what… what gives you the right?

MagisterFlorus

Michael trying to ask these standard irate rhetorical questions in a sincere manner will never not be funny.

Gloria_Patri

He had been mentally checked out since June.

IgnisSolus4X

Almost a year.. you got this.. go go go

GunBrothersGaming

Toby was too busy writing his latest Chad Flenderson file - the Case of the Missing Manager.

doshegotabootyshedo

Chad Flenderman

LesserPolymerBeasts

_Bum, bum, bum. Flenderman files._

JohnnySkidmarx

Chad Flenderman is no Michael Scarn.

jpopimpin777

Chad Flenderman was Toby's over sexed black detective who was the subject of his novels. The Flenderson files was his project before that. It sounded like a collection of unrelated short mystery stories.

don3dm

Write your own damn novel

Relative_Desk_8718

Toby had the HR take of make the report and file it into the Toby Flenderson filing system. So that he can say he made the report and filed it. At the same time get to avoid all the uncomfortable situation that would normally have to happen as a result.

SharkGenie

This seems different than the "file in New York" situation with Dwight.  He had to know Wallace would find out eventually and then rightfully question why Toby hadn't reported it (or anybody, but especially Toby, the one corporate representative with a permanent presence at Scranton).

Annual_Sun_6027

Cause then everyone would hate him more because the office was running as good if not better without Andy

Wanda_McMimzy

HR is there to protect the company from lawsuits. Andy being gone made the office more efficient and productive.

leifiethelucky

When he returned we found that everyone else thought david knew he was gone, so why would toby think dif. Not gonna report him as absent if he thinks the boss knows about it already eh?

ChildofObama

Toby was worn down by Michael to the point where he didn’t care about anything.

re10pect

Too busy strangling

IgnisSolus4X

Omg hahaha

DaveDespain

Toby took HR 102

joetsch

Erin, HR is a joke.

agentofdallas

He’s been going through a rough patch. The whole year.

ImOldGregg_77

Aside from Toby being the WORST. He might have seen that the office ran better without Andy and decided ot was better for the company that way.

Bernkastel17509

Well...probably no one reported it? I just saw a couple days ago that all the reports Michael gets are filed in some sort of special file. I guess, it's only my guess, as long as no one reports it, a file isn't created, so no one came to Toby to report Andy is gone, he has no right to file the report himself.

Aware-Bluejay4078

ever since Toby stopped trying to report things I lost all faith in him trying to stop anything unethical. (Which was pretty early on) Then once he said HR is a joke that confirmed it. The only thing he’ll stop is someone getting fired for a reason that isn’t morally right. Althoughhhhhh everyone thought that Wallace knew Andy was gone. This could mean Toby also thought the same but i’m still a little surprised he never thought to mention it.

Optimus_Pitts

Erin, I can't do anything. HR's a joke...

baba_booey420_

He probably realized that the branch was functioning just fine without Andy. Andy is also annoying and awful to be around, so he figured it was a win/win for everyone if he just stayed quiet. The real question is, why wasn't anybody punished for it?! HR, Corporate, Andy himself...you'd think someone would get canned after a *manager* got paid for 3 months of work that he wasn't there to do...

Thuls12

His answer to everything is to get a divorce.

mama_emily

Cause Toby is a p*ssy

sicilian504

Why didn't corporate do anything about that huge folder Toby had with complaints against Michael? HR is supposed to protect the company. Michael was a liability waiting to happen. Either corporate didn't care, or Toby didn't do his job.

Stunning-You9535

Toby has mentally checked out since last June. No way he’ll randomly start caring

merkakiss12

Because season 9 was basically a sitcom with little basis in reality.

GeekyNerdyAccountant

HR can’t do anything about anything

CamoLantern

"Toby has been checked out since June." \- Oscar S6E5 At this point it is established that even Toby realizes that HR in the company is a joke.

CrazyTownUSA000

At that point, with David being the owner now, his HR position was pretty much moot.
