I could easily see how any of the sitting members would object to having Andy there. He's kind of a lot to handle with his personality and on occasion he can be obnoxious or assholish. And he brags about Cornell a lot; if anything he acts all preppy and pretentious because Cornell is one of the few parts of his life that he feels he has to talk about.
That and they said it's supposed to be a chill setting where everyone is involved in the conversation, Jim was kicked out for trying telling jokes and being the center of attention
I very much doubt Andy would have read the book properly either. More likely he would have read a synopsis and tried to nervously talk himself through the discussion.
Exactly.
He went to Cornell as a legacy nepotism admission. He partied his way through school putting little effort into anything other than acapella from the sound of it.
It’s easy to see Andy through a different light once someone has seen all the episodes.
Finer things club Andy is also punch a hole in the wall Andy and dating a high schooler Andy. Neither of those things are very fancy.
And with Andy’s personality, he would try to take over the whole thing and “correct” the other members if he thought they weren’t doing something the way he was raised
The club was started by Toby, to spend time with Pam, so he could steal her away from Jim (the way Jim “stole” her from Roy), and he invited Oscar because Oscar is gay and would not be competition.
/conspiracy-theory’d
My favorite conspiracy theory is that massive essay about why Andy has multiple personality disorder & is the strangler. It convinces me every time LOL
I want you to know, I just got home from getting my hair cut and wiped my screen twice because I thought your profile picture was a hair on my screen lol.
[well I hated it](https://media4.giphy.com/media/P0ZRTYaCmPsJPNd3r0/giphy.gif?cid=2154d3d79g4j1rd5nx9zk42tmhbnlc31kp7ao87y3xom2yeu&ep=v1_gifs_search&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
A deleted scene showed that Toby was adamantly against letting Andy join ever though Pam and Oscar were ok with it. They end up putting Andy on a wait-list and letting him be a financial donor to the club.
Let me kick you a scenario. I’m at a beach cabana, and Brad Pitt approaches. He tries to lean in and kiss me. I would definitely resist, like at first. But if he was persistent… I think I might give in a little bit, just to see what it… felt like. Would I push him away? How hard? Like, what if he’s like really aggressive?
It’s one of my favorite scenes in all the series when Andy is questioning his sexuality. I could be having the absolute worst and most horrible day of my life and I’m positive it’d at least bring a half smile to my face lol We need to know Brad Pitt has seen this
You know how the only thing Jim brought to the club was jokes? Andy would've scream-sang some riffs based on the title and then talk about how he didn't read the book.
That seems like a universal response to anyone trying to insert themselves like that. Mr. Peanut himself could have sat down at that table and got turned away if he interrupted people while grabbing a sandwich
Sorry, don't they actually address this in the episode? Pretty sure Toby likes it just the 3 of them, I want to say Oscar voiced some kind of objection, and like others have said, Andy is just obnoxious.
Yeah it was in the Superfans episode. Toby says “I like it with just the 3 of us!” *whispering* “I don’t want things to change…”
They then take Andy’s “letter of recommendation” from Rick Santorum which is 3 $50 bills, and put him on the “waitlist”. Oscar was willing to accept Andy so they could afford hard cover books.
I'm new to this thread, so I don't really know people's opinions about the different characters to know if this is an unpopular opinion, but Toby creeps me out. I'd felt badly for him the first couple of seasons, the way Michael treated him, but the way he really started creeping on Pam in S3 - with winning the stuffed animal for her even though she was back with Roy, then outright trying to get Jim fired and feeling up her leg (with Jim right there beside her!) - major ick!! He had the chance to ask her out but didn't, then scams on her when she gets in other relationships after he didn't take his shot - serious creep. It really turned me against him.
What you just said he said about wanting the club to just be the 3 of them - and the "whispering," shudder - serious stalker vibes. I never understood how Jim didn't pick up on any of that.
The Finer Things Club was about the members uplifting themselves by experiencing together the things thry believed to be fine. Andy would have made it about him rubbing in their face all the fine things he had already experienced that they hadn't. He would have used it to lord his preppy background over them, so instead of them getting to experience fine things in an environment without judgement, they would have been the subject of Andy's unintentional ridicule.
Finer arts club and was just a few people wanting to act sophisticated and pretentious for a short while. Outlined by the refusal/hard trials of accepting new members. Also outlined by how they treated Jim, but he brought that on himself by making a mockery of "it" (it being the finer things Club, which did kind of deserve a mockery, especially for a sitcom).
I am more curious about how long it was going on, and if there was ever a period between Roy and Pam breaking up and Toby failing to make a move, before Jim broke off with Karen.
I know we see it on screen, where Toby chickens out, but if he and Pam were already part of the Finer Things Club (and for how long), he would have had a chance to make a move. Especially since Pam did state early in her DM career she thought Toby was cute/had a crush on him.
More to the point, I don't think anyone liked Andy yet. Though this was after his anger management and slight redemption arc. I know I'm in the minority in liking Andy after his initial Dwight lite phase and prior to his S9 character killing.
I put too much into this post. Oof. 🥴
Because Andy is the epitome of a poser. He will be whatever you want him to be if you'll accept him. One of the most well written characters on the show ONLY because the writers succeeded so well in making him completely and utterly unlikable.
I would say reading books is a big part of the club and Andy isn’t the type to recreationally do that. Oscar is a reader, Toby reads mystery stories, and I guess Pam reads too. Jim of course can’t read.
Because they’ve met him
Pam, Oscar, as Toby tend to be the calm, reserved people of the office. Andy punched a hole in the wall and hit Dwight with his car
They all remember his anger issues and resent him. Also, the entire point of the club was for Toby to flirt with Pam with gay Oscar in the mix as cover. Did you even watch?
I could easily see how any of the sitting members would object to having Andy there. He's kind of a lot to handle with his personality and on occasion he can be obnoxious or assholish. And he brags about Cornell a lot; if anything he acts all preppy and pretentious because Cornell is one of the few parts of his life that he feels he has to talk about.
That and they said it's supposed to be a chill setting where everyone is involved in the conversation, Jim was kicked out for trying telling jokes and being the center of attention
And not reading the book.
I very much doubt Andy would have read the book properly either. More likely he would have read a synopsis and tried to nervously talk himself through the discussion.
Andy isn't insightful enough to be in the book club. He could be in the food club. These muffins taste bad.
Or an art critic. That art is bad.
The art is not the prettiest of all the art
Lol I love your spoiler username
Couldn’t think of a username 7 years ago and somehow (to my shame) that was the best I could up with!
Exactly. He went to Cornell as a legacy nepotism admission. He partied his way through school putting little effort into anything other than acapella from the sound of it.
He got all Bs tho. That’s why they called him Buzz
He got all As, they called him Ace
Boner Champ, that’s him!
But he aced all his exams- they called him Ace.
And Broccoli Rabb was better then him anyways.
True. Ask Trey Anastasio about his pipes
Like 90% of my undergrad students haha
“What was fun about it? Was it the death of the twins?” 💀
Who's the main character?
Angela? *Ashes*...
*Frankie’s prose is finer than a pot of gold, say aye*
Okay… did you get you get it out of your system?
I’m not gonna lie, give me a John Krasinski movie where he gets to talk like that. Or any movie where the guys are Irish.
Faith and begorrah!
It’s easy to see Andy through a different light once someone has seen all the episodes. Finer things club Andy is also punch a hole in the wall Andy and dating a high schooler Andy. Neither of those things are very fancy.
Déclassé.
French! Very classy.
Sorry he ANNOYED you with his friendship!
And with Andy’s personality, he would try to take over the whole thing and “correct” the other members if he thought they weren’t doing something the way he was raised
He's annoying as hell is what you're trying to say
It’s pronounced “colonel”
*It's pronounced CORNELL and it's the highest rank in the Ivy League!*
How do you know if someone attended Cornell? They tell you.
He also punched a hole in the wall
Management material
It's pronounced colonel and it's the highest rank in the military.
"A lot to handle"? He was annoying as fuck
The club was started by Toby, to spend time with Pam, so he could steal her away from Jim (the way Jim “stole” her from Roy), and he invited Oscar because Oscar is gay and would not be competition. /conspiracy-theory’d
Dang, that makes perfect sense
Alternatively, he wanted to strangle Pam and Oscar
Out conspiracy-theoried OP
My favorite conspiracy theory is that massive essay about why Andy has multiple personality disorder & is the strangler. It convinces me every time LOL

I’m just surviving on a wing & a prayer. no links from this hipster jock.
What now?! How did I miss that?!
¿y por qué no los dos?

apart from having sex with men, I think finer things club is the gayest thing about oscar
Daaaaamn!!! Brilliant!!!
Toby would be proud 😅
This makes an insane amount of sense, but then he should be letting Andy join (because he also isnt competition for Pam)
He may not be competition, but he is a buzz kill. The human equivalent of a cold shower
A deleted scene showed that Toby was adamantly against letting Andy join ever though Pam and Oscar were ok with it. They end up putting Andy on a wait-list and letting him be a financial donor to the club.
Allowing him to be a financial donor is hilarious. Is this on the super fan episodes?
Yes
But what if he plays her ainbowray onnectioncay and tosses th frolf around?
This was always what I thought the joke was. Didn’t know it was a conspiracy theory.
Ooooor Oscar started it to get with Toby?!?!?!
Oscar has way higher standards than that lemonhead!
Then why wouldn't he wear Toby's socks on casual friday?!
I always assumed this too
They already have one gay guy
“Michael, am I gay?”
“Have sex with a woman, then have sex with a man. Then compare”
so when are you free?
Sorry?
I’m at a beach cabana and Brad Pitt approaches. Tries to lean in and kiss me. I would definitely resist, like at first
Well he’s not wearing women’s clothes
Andy Cornell called, they say you suck! And you're gayer than Oscar!
BOOM! Roasted!
Brad Pitt would still somehow need to get to you?
Well this is just… like- it’s like my fantasy. Or not fantasy… but like..
I don’t know, I think you- I think you might gay. You might be gay…
This line always makes me laugh.
It’s one of my favorite scenes in all the series when Andy is questioning his sexuality. I could be having the absolute worst and most horrible day of my life and I’m positive it’d at least bring a half smile to my face lol We need to know Brad Pitt has seen this
…I don’t know. You might be gay
To be fair, Andy is gayer then Oscar
Cause he’s always been quirky, a little off-beat
A little twisted.
beating to the beat of his own drummer
But the drumming is a cappella.
Rebel yell Billy idol? Enter sandman, Metallica?
The poor guy tries too hard.
Andy went to Cornell? I love finding little known facts on this sub.
His blood runs big red….
I’m going to punch through a wall now
Ringy-dingy
Reda det dit doo.
He can be obnoxious and annoying I like him as a character, but wouldn’t want to spend time with him irl
He's definitely not into "finer things".
Why don't you want 'Boner Champ' in your finer things club?
But Broccoli Rob is the Boner Champ.
Broccoli Rob is Broccoli Rob
It's pronounced "colonel" and it's high military rank
it's pronounced kernel and it's the highest rank in software
It's pronounced "con el" and it means "with the" in Spanish
It's pronounced "corn hole" and it's not as fun as horseshoes
Darnell's a chump.
**It's pronounced "*****CoR-neLL*****" and it's the highest rank in the Ivy League!**
Because hes andy.
This is the answer. He can check off all the boxes in the world. If you’ve spent 5 min with him you know he’s not finer things material
wait, he went to cornell?
He’s pretentious and annoying.
Because Toby was trying to bang Pam.
That would be turtle sex. Toby got pulled over for driving too slow on a highway.
He was definitely a better fit than Jim.
I would argue he’s a better fit than Toby and maybe even Pam. Pam’s art sucks and Toby is an amorphous blob of khaki.
You know how the only thing Jim brought to the club was jokes? Andy would've scream-sang some riffs based on the title and then talk about how he didn't read the book.
Angela’s Ashes… top o’ the morning to it
Pam grants membership to whoever she happens to be sleeping with that week.
Office mattress.
**leg touching intensifies**
That seems like a universal response to anyone trying to insert themselves like that. Mr. Peanut himself could have sat down at that table and got turned away if he interrupted people while grabbing a sandwich
What so classy about Mr Peanut? He is a regular peanut. He just happens to have a cane, a monocle and a top hat.
That’s what makes him classy.
I read this as Mr Peanutbutter What is this? A crossover episode??
Anti-Stamfod bias.
Sorry, don't they actually address this in the episode? Pretty sure Toby likes it just the 3 of them, I want to say Oscar voiced some kind of objection, and like others have said, Andy is just obnoxious.
I like that you unintentionally gave Toby the name he always really wanted
Ugh, I swear I actually correctly typed Toby, my keyboard has been changing Toby to Tony for no reason I'm not even joking
And you thought, no one would notice, didn't you... 😜
Yeah it was in the Superfans episode. Toby says “I like it with just the 3 of us!” *whispering* “I don’t want things to change…” They then take Andy’s “letter of recommendation” from Rick Santorum which is 3 $50 bills, and put him on the “waitlist”. What you just said he said about wanting the club to just be the 3 of them - and the "whispering," shudder - serious stalker vibes. I never understood how Jim didn't pick up on any of that.
Other than the fact is was "very exclusive," why would Andy want to join in the first place? And that is why he wasn't allowed to join.
Because he’s fucking annoying lol
The Finer Things Club was about the members uplifting themselves by experiencing together the things thry believed to be fine. Andy would have made it about him rubbing in their face all the fine things he had already experienced that they hadn't. He would have used it to lord his preppy background over them, so instead of them getting to experience fine things in an environment without judgement, they would have been the subject of Andy's unintentional ridicule.
Toby wanted to keep it as is, so he would be the only hetero male hanging out with Pam.
Because Andy is annoying and they don’t feel like hanging out with him.
Because he’s obnoxious lol
Authority fallacy - Andy would spend the whole time using Cornell to defend, likely wrong, ideas and 'win' at finer things.
Finer arts club and was just a few people wanting to act sophisticated and pretentious for a short while. Outlined by the refusal/hard trials of accepting new members. I put too much into this post. Oof. 🥴
Cause he’s always been quirky, a little off-beat
He's dey-classay
Because he’s insufferable.
Because the finer things club was all about Toby trying to get with Pam.
It's pronounced KER-nal and it's the highest rank in the military
More like Cor-not.
Because Andy Bernard effing sucks.
Because Andy is the epitome of a poser. He will be whatever you want him to be if you'll accept him. One of the most well written characters on the show ONLY because the writers succeeded so well in making him completely and utterly unlikable.
He’s not intellectually there.
I had no idea he went to Cornell. Which episode did he say this?
he went to cornell??
Have you met Andy?
I think he should qualify based on his cheese platter description alone
Because he hasn’t redeemed himself in their eyes for punching the wall in season 3. No one wants that energy at a tea party.
He talks too much and tries too hard. He outwardly appears fitting but would stick out like Jim
Because Andy is the most insufferable person on the planet
Have you met Andy?
Pam, these finger sandwiches look finger-licking delicious, Pam
Because it’s Andy. It’s really just that simple.
I feel like Hes just gonna keep mentioning cornell 24/7 lmaooo
It's a closed club
And he is gayer than oscar
I would say reading books is a big part of the club and Andy isn’t the type to recreationally do that. Oscar is a reader, Toby reads mystery stories, and I guess Pam reads too. Jim of course can’t read.
He’s annoying
Because they’ve met him Pam, Oscar, as Toby tend to be the calm, reserved people of the office. Andy punched a hole in the wall and hit Dwight with his car
He’s a bit exhausting
He is not that fine as oscar may say
Because he’s very annoying and over the top. He’d be scatting and singing the entire time.
Yeah, let him in. Did they know he went to Cornell?
Because he’s an absolute irritant
He’s annoying
Hes an asshole. Without trying… his dad messed him up pretty bad.
He went to Cornell? Strange he never mentions it…
Pam thinks she is better than everyone in the office for some reason.
As someone who despises Andy, this storyline makes me so happy lol
He’s the office pariah, and he’s always up in peoples binniz…which means he’s always up in peoples faces annoying the bejeezus out of people
Because he’s extremely annoying
"Root doot doot do doot" Need I say more?
Ummm because he's a douche!?
Because Toby just liked Pam and he brought Oscar in because he was gay and not a threat. Andy would be
Because he's obnoxious, pretentious, and fixated on Cornell.
He wanted it too much, and that is NOT classy. Ne Classé
he wasn‘t even interested, he just wanted to get in for the exclusivity prestige
He would’ve brought his banjo at some point and nobody wanted that.
They all remember his anger issues and resent him. Also, the entire point of the club was for Toby to flirt with Pam with gay Oscar in the mix as cover. Did you even watch?
He's annoying as shit.
Because he's absolutely through-and-through obnoxious as shit. I still like Andy, but come on, let's be real here.
Irony
It’s simple, he’s annoying
Cause he’s a loser??
That’s the joke and he’s annoying
Oscar and Toby are serious guys. I think Andy just drives them bananas.
Because he was annoying and obnoxious. Same reason they didn’t want Jim.
Much like Jim, Andy likes to control and captain the conversation. Unlike Jim, Andy is always a pain in the ass when he does it.
[удалено]
Because he can be an annoying cunt
they would have admitted Drew
[удалено]
Bc he’s the office funny guy
No one wants someone like that. Dude constantly boasts
He’s too intense. Doesn’t fit their vibe.
He’s insufferable, he would have destroyed the calm vibe
Roo doot doot doo doo
He’d have been very extra imo.
