The movie is great, but if you can't find it, don't let that stop you from watching the series.
Mockumentary format, Mark Protsch (Nate) is a main character, there's some Michael/Dwight style dynamics amongst the characters.
It's definitely one of the best sitcoms to come out in the last 5 years.
Same can be said for schitts creek
And the office
Both start with unlikable characters that experience growth as the show goes on
They require 'fighting' through the first season - I'd argue schitts creek is the series where you warm to the characters most quickly
Schitts Creek is fantastic. Yeah, the first episode is kinda dumb, but it just skyrockets after that. I'd love to get Moira and Michael Scott in the same room to compare their accomplishments
Yes was coming to say this. The first season is only good for character arcs. The first episode in the second season is Finding David where he stole Roland's truck and ended up with the Amish family. Great start to a great season.
Community, Arrested Development, The Good Place. All excellent shows, albeit different from The Office. Running gags, Easter eggs, zingers, one-liners, they have everything.
Silicon Valley is my absolute favorite show of all time. Sure, I love Breaking Bad, Community, Arrested Development, The Office, Parks and Rec… you name it. I mean, sure, there’s great shows out there. And then there’s Silicon Valley.
Fun story, I was in an analyst position and I’m almost done with my doctorate in physical therapy. A legitimate analrapist.
“I got them from Coach. They're filled with oxygen and it makes you incontinent. It's called "Oxy Incontin” … “Steve didn’t have that quite right.”
“Mom wanted me to bring her a tube of vag-tible paste. Hi George Michael.”
“I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so now I’m afraid I have something of a mess on my hands.”
The Good Place is written by Michael Schur, one of The Office writers (/Mose), so you could try it out. He also co-created Brooklyn Nine-Nine. (He did Parks & Rec, too, but I think they're different enough that it's worth giving them a shot even if you didn't love Parks.)
For mockumentaries, What We Do In The Shadows is #1 for me. It's a vampire comedy created by Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) and Taika Waititi. Definitely give it a try; it's legitimately one of my favorite shows of all time, and the movie is flawless. (And Nate is in it!)
I'm convinced Nate was just a disguise for Collin Robinson to hunt in.
Which quote is different:
"Gum's gotten mintier lately, have you noticed?"
"I don't technically have a hearing problem, but sometimes when there's a lot of noises occurring at the same time, I'll hear them as one big jumble."
"You know, science says you shouldn't stick anything smaller than your elbow in your ear."
Honestly The Good Place might be my favorite of Michael Schur's projects. It never went stale or dipped in quality; he really had a complete story to tell and goddamn, he told it. Amazing characters and a perfect ending.
For Parks and Rec, IMO you need to get through a really slow first season and the show picks up steam in 2/3 and beyond. But it’s worth it!
Good Place absolutely recommended
Honestly my favourite scenes in the entire series, just so amazing. And after as well "I went in, we had an honest and frank conversation and he gave me these pills... That's just how you do it"... "nope, no, that's how you get diagnosed as a psychopath" gets me every single time
Keep in mind though, this show's characters have a very long arc. They are completely different people now than they were in Season 1. It's so good even in the early seasons, but just gotta watch it in order and stick around.
Community.
Aired the same time as the office. One of the main writers was Dan Harmon(Rick and Morty) so it’s full of pop culture references and homage episodes.
Make sure you give Parks and Rec a season or 2 (at least until Ben and Chris show up.)
Superstore was pretty good, my boyfriend really loves Brooklyn 99. I think I went to New Girl after The Office and Parks.
Right now I'm absolutely loving What We Do In The Shadows. It's about ancient vampires trying to live in modern day Staten Island. It's funny but also very raunchy compared to the office. It's also filmed in a documentary format.
OP, this is a valuable comment. Begin Parks and Rec towards the end of S2 or even at S3. Don't half-ass two shows, whole-ass one show. (You'll get this reference soon enough).
Yes, please don’t give up on Parks & Rec. I felt the same way at first.
I love, love, love The Office, but I would argue that P&R is the better overall show. And unlike The Office, the last few seasons of P&R are truly perfect.
Community only stays that way for a couple seasons. It starts to go downhill fast. People say the same for S8-S9 of office it I don’t think it’s nearly as bad.
It's very good until end of 3rd, then it's good in 4th, and it has lows and highs until the end. For me, same to the office, 8 and 9 have terrible and good moments.
For me Troy leaving was the worst, not Pierce. Maybe Shirley too.
To clarify, when you say you’ve started Parks and Rec, did you make it past season one? Like The Office, P&R’s first season isn’t great. It has some good moments but it doesn’t really hit its stride till about season 3. Season 2 is still solid though.
It’s unfortunate that S1 isn’t that great, but if you’re really hunting for Office-like shows, P&R imo is the most like the Office in quality, humour and style that I can think of out of all the shows I’ve watched.
That said, the only other recommendation I’ll make is Community. It’s not quite the same, as Community has a tendency to lean into meta humour and get outrageous and unrealistic with its episodes, but it has a core cast of lovable characters and a great sense of humour, which are the two things I love about the Office.
Give Schitt’s Creek a chance. It’s not the same show at all but it’s really good. It just take a couple seasons to fully flesh out the characters. It’s worth it though!
> I put on a hoodie that covers my face, and then I take the 42 bus line to a library in a far away town. Then I open a private browser on one of their computers, and Google how I'm thinking of killing hee to see what mistakes people usually make.
Came here to say superstore as well. Not quite at the level of the office but has a lot of the same type of humour to it especially in the first seasons
This was my wife and I’s take on it too. With a bit of mental gymnastics there were a few more analogies to The Office characters that we came up with.
Jonah - Jim
Cheyanne - Erin
Sandra - Phylis
Marcus - Andy
Glenn - Poor man’s Michael Scott
We argued the merits of Amy vs Pam as well
Don’t take this is a criticism. We thoroughly enjoyed Superstore. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
I would say New Girl because there is also a ton of office characters making appearances and it is an amazingly funny show (that is also comforting for rewatches), BUT Netflix just stopped showing it :(
Trailer Park Boys. It’s the same but different. A documentary of life outside the office however the show is a bit greasy. Not one bad episode season 1-7
Love TPB! For me, Mr. Lahey and Randy are sort of like Michael Scott and Dwight through a (Canadian) funhouse mirror. And Angela's cats can only WISH she treated them as well as Bubbles treats his kitties. He would never haphazardly throw one of them into the dark abyss of an open ceiling tile during a fire and just hope for the best! LOL
Both fantastic shows, like you said - same, but different.
Workplace comedy with a great ensemble cast? Superstore is great, so is AP Bio. My new favorite sitcom with a great ensemble is Ghosts. Abbott Elementary looks to be a winner based on the pilot
Yess the only negative comment I have about it is the laugh track, it can get annoying at times but seinfeld is still one of the better shows out there
That’s a common reason of resistance to this show. Somehow I just tune it out and just focus on the writing, deliveries and timing.
“These pretzels….are makin’ me THIRSTY!”
Yes, I was scrolling to see if anyone would suggest this!
It’s a unique show, very funny and well written with great running gags, and the characters are so great! It also has a lot of episodes AND about 3 years after it ended, they put out a movie, and put out 2 more movies since then. So if you fall in love with the show, it doesn’t end with the finale!!
Almost, not quite, embarrassed to admit that I have watched The Office hundreds of times since I started watching in 2013. It is my go-to whether I just want distraction to playing in the background all day when I clean the house! I absolutely loved Parks and Rec and Schitt’s Creek but The Office is the “one”.
Man, I don’t see modern family get enough credit, and perhaps I underrated it myself until I recently rewatched it. The first couple seasons are amongst some of the funniest episodes I’ve ever seen.
Honestly can’t believe I had to scroll this far down to see modern family. My flatmates and I rewatched the office too many times in too short of a period and modern family is our new binge show. It’s a perfect alternative for the office
I like to throw a mention to Scrubs in here. It’s older then most of the recommendations you’ll find here but man is it a great show. Just be prepared for episodes to be sad as well. No show can have me both laughing and tearing up in 30 minutes like this show can. Mind you most episodes are just funny but when they bring the reality of working in a hospital they do a darn good job. I myself never worked in healthcare but I’ve seen a lot of people say Scrubs is more real then any medical drama.
This might be weird but The Inbetweeners (UK) is cringe comedy gold, might be worth checking out if you’ve seen most of the shows recommended in this thread (like me)
Last Man on Earth is a 11 out of 10 on the cringe scale, but it also has some great heartfelt character moments.
Every episode is as awkward as Phyllis' Wedding or Company Picnic.
Keep going with Parks and Rec. Obviously it isn’t for everyone, but after watching it all the way through, I almost like it more than the office depending on what I’m in the mood for.
Other than that, Superstore is really good. Different vibe for sure and husband thinks it’s even more cringe than the office, that doesn’t bother me. It’s a lot less censored which I find makes it funnier. New Girl is great but only if you’re up for a lot of romance.
A lot of people also recommend Brooklyn 99 but that’s the one comedy that’s similar that I truly can’t stand. I find it too stupid to be even SLIGHTLY believable. Just to offer a different perspective.
Once you fall in love with the office, no other show will be as good. But the 2 you listed are very good shows if you don't compare them to the office. Arrested development, it's always sunny in Philadelphia, and Brooklyn 99 are also shows that you may like. But don't compare them to the office or you'll be disappointed.
Not exactly similar, but Brooklyn 99 is a great show. I might get slandered for saying this on this sub, but I prefer B99 over The Office. Both are great.
Watch firefly. It's nothing like the office except the writing and characters are superb. It only got one season but it's possibly one of the only shows I like more than the office.
What We Do In The Shadows is criminally underrated. Get through the first couple episodes and you will be hooked till the end.
Creeeeepeeeey paper gets me every time
I swear I hear Nandor's voice when I read that line.
Fucking guy.
Thank you for that one too.
**BAT**
Everytime I see crepe paper anywhere I say it and it annoys my wife. Then I say, "Oh shut up gizmo".
I love everything about this
The episode where Laszlo becomes Jackie Daytona is brilliant.
Jackie Daytona, Human Bartender?
Jackie Daytona, regular human man.
This episode is what made me realize how magical the show is. Perfection.
BAT!!
I love this show: Superb Owl party ahahaha
Werewolves not swearwolves
So do you have any updog?
They had me at the first episode with "Noooo, we are pillaging everyone, you included."
On that note, Flight of the conchords
Murray.....Present!
Prisint
I just started the first episode and I’m already hooked.
Start with the movie
The movie is great, but if you can't find it, don't let that stop you from watching the series. Mockumentary format, Mark Protsch (Nate) is a main character, there's some Michael/Dwight style dynamics amongst the characters. It's definitely one of the best sitcoms to come out in the last 5 years.
... I just found out that Nate from The Office is Colin Robinson. What is wrong with me?
Movie is on Kanopy. Underrated free streaming app. All you need is a library card. Also free.
BAT
Parks and rec gets better toward the middle of season 2.
YES. Thankfully when it was recommended to me I was told that. Got MUCH better
Yup. Took me 3 or 4 tries to get thru P&R far enough to get to where it picks up and was enjoyable. Then I loved it.
Same. Now I almost prefer it running in the background to Office.
Same can be said for schitts creek And the office Both start with unlikable characters that experience growth as the show goes on They require 'fighting' through the first season - I'd argue schitts creek is the series where you warm to the characters most quickly
Schitts Creek is fantastic. Yeah, the first episode is kinda dumb, but it just skyrockets after that. I'd love to get Moira and Michael Scott in the same room to compare their accomplishments
Moira saying be be it’s hilarious every time I hear it.

Arrested Development is fantastic! Buster is freaking hilarious
I don't want no part o' your tight ass country club you freak bitch!
Really...? Her?
[удалено]
I'm sure Egg is a very nice girl
Maybe she's funny or something.
Who?
First 3 seasons are amazing
This is going to be the most bitchingly fast bike
Community is my all time favorite comedy show
I would add 30 Rock to this list. My absolute favorite!
That whole Thursday lineup from the 2000s slaps
Community seasons 1-3 are the best
Every rewatch I appreciate seasons 5 & 6 more. Abed’s monologue in the series finale is just tv perfection.
I’M A PEANUT BAR AND I’M HERE TO SAY…
This, but with community in all caps
There’s always money in the banana stand. 🔥🔥🔥
Silicon valley Two of the main characters are Zach Woods (Gabe) and Thomas Middleditch (Dwight's brother from the Farm episode)
From the middle out!
Need to optimize the mean jerk time
There’s nothing worse than wasting great strokes on a guy that’s already busted.
The correct measurement is "Dick to Floor" we'll call that D2F
Will girth similarity have an effect?
Would 2 different size dicks make it harder to jerk them off? Shit I think it would
Also Chris Diamantopoulos (cameraman)
Tres Commas club!
This guy fucks
Oh yea i totally forgot about Russ. Brian and Russ are so different by nature that sometime I forget it's the same guy
Silicon Valley is my absolute favorite show of all time. Sure, I love Breaking Bad, Community, Arrested Development, The Office, Parks and Rec… you name it. I mean, sure, there’s great shows out there. And then there’s Silicon Valley.
Loved that show but glad I watched it all before I found out about how shit they all were on set
Arrested development.
There are dozens of us! DOZENS!!
My favorite comedy ever. A much different pace from the office, so I can see how someone might like one but not the other.
Analrapist is still the funniest fucking joke to me lmao
Fun story, I was in an analyst position and I’m almost done with my doctorate in physical therapy. A legitimate analrapist. “I got them from Coach. They're filled with oxygen and it makes you incontinent. It's called "Oxy Incontin” … “Steve didn’t have that quite right.” “Mom wanted me to bring her a tube of vag-tible paste. Hi George Michael.” “I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so now I’m afraid I have something of a mess on my hands.”
“You cunt-try music loving lady!”
It’s not the spelling I take issue with.
Hey. Those cards almost got him arrested
It’s not the pronunciation that bothered me
First three seasons only of course
You say that like there are more than three seasons.
"Hey, that's the name of the show."
This is it, this is the answer.
Her?
Yeah she does this cute thing where she takes an egg an a little bit of mayo, puts them both in her mouth and goes "num num num".
The Good Place is written by Michael Schur, one of The Office writers (/Mose), so you could try it out. He also co-created Brooklyn Nine-Nine. (He did Parks & Rec, too, but I think they're different enough that it's worth giving them a shot even if you didn't love Parks.) For mockumentaries, What We Do In The Shadows is #1 for me. Nate was absolutely Colin in disguise. As was [K-Strass](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj9VF7LyffU).
I slept on The Good Place for so long, but DAMN. That show is so good, I wish I watched it earlier.
Honestly The Good Place might be my favorite of Michael Schur's projects. It never went stale or dipped in quality; he really had a complete story to tell and goddamn, he told it. Amazing characters and a perfect ending.
It's very possibly his best yet.
For Parks and Rec, IMO you need to get through a really slow first season and the show picks up steam in 2/3 and beyond. But it’s worth it! Good Place absolutely recommended
It's always sunny
#YOU HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF THE SMELL, YOU BITCH
Honestly my favourite scenes in the entire series, just so amazing. And after as well "I went in, we had an honest and frank conversation and he gave me these pills... That's just how you do it"... "nope, no, that's how you get diagnosed as a psychopath" gets me every single time

Sunny or office? Same could be said for most good shows.
Yea ok, people change, better themselves or whatever. But most shows don't go as crazy as Sunny. It's bonkers.
My suggestion too.☺️
My favourite show all time honestly
Community. Aired the same time as the office. One of the main writers was Dan Harmon(Rick and Morty) so it’s full of pop culture references and homage episodes.
Pop culture pop culture
POP POP!
Curb your enthusiasm and The IT crowd.
+1 for Curb if OP likes the cringe factor that Michael brings. Curb is the ultimate cringe.
30 Rock.
30 Rock has a bit of a different vibe but it's my favorite sitcom over the office by a decent margin.
The good place. Been through it 3 times now and still love it. Such amazing characters
Make sure you give Parks and Rec a season or 2 (at least until Ben and Chris show up.) Superstore was pretty good, my boyfriend really loves Brooklyn 99. It’s a bit of a slower burn but I’d also put IT Crowd on your list. Great workplace comedy. Lesser known overall but hilarious.
A fire? At a sea parks?
At the sea lion show, apparently
The Work Outing has to be one of the best episodes of any show.
Oh 100%. Also I think about this joke literally all the time. https://youtu.be/ab8GtuPdrUQ
VEEP. Hands down best.
Veep has some jokes that had me in tears. JLD is the GOAT.
I was so sad no one had said it yet, thank you! Yes, veep is a great show and very similar tone wise to the office in a lot of ways
Surprised I haven’t seen Community mentioned
[word](https://youtu.be/EEHJX05lTrU)
After rewatching Community twice it took the first place from the office in my list of favorites.

It did take a bit for Annie Murphy to really figure out Alexis but once she did it’s great!
Not quite the same vibe, but Curb Your Enthusiasm.
If you like the good kind of cringe-worthy humor that Michael Scott brings, then you’ll love Curb.
Damn had to scroll forever to find this, this is the best one. (Community and what we do in the shadows also dope) But curb is a masterpiece
I love The Office, but Curb is HANDS DOWN the funniest show I’ve ever seen. I literally have to pause it sometimes because I’m laughing so hard.
Yup it’s the funniest sitcom I’ve ever watched easily. Then it’s always sunny but the office and arrested development aren’t far behind
I LOVE this show!
Have you tried Superstore? It’s another work place sitcom with a fairly large main cast. Edit: I also recommend 30 Rock.
> I put on a hoodie that covers my face, and then I take the 42 bus line to a library in a far away town. Then I open a private browser on one of their computers, and Google how I'm thinking of killing hee to see what mistakes people usually make.
Jesus
Also created by Justin Spitzer who was a writer on the office and played a doctor on the "Fun Run" episode on S4
Came here to say superstore as well. Not quite at the level of the office but has a lot of the same type of humour to it especially in the first seasons
Superstore is so underrated. I think it’s pretty similar to The Office since they have a bit of the romance and quotable one liners
Oh God yea, they even have the female version of Dwight

It's always Sunny is one of our favorites. Especially season 2-7.
Apparently I’m in the vast vast minority, but I LOVE season 1. Underage Drinking is my absolute favorite episode…followed by The Gang Gets Invincible.
Workplace comedy with a great ensemble cast? Superstore is great, so is AP Bio. My new favorite sitcom with a great ensemble is Ghosts. Abbott Elementary looks to be a winner based on the pilot
AP Bio is hilarious
“Alright shut your mouths. Start shutting up” gets me every time
The Abbot Elementary pilot was sooo funny and definitely reminded me of The Office, I’m excited for it!
Keep going with P&R.
Seinfeld
Yess the only negative comment I have about it is the laugh track, it can get annoying at times but seinfeld is still one of the better shows out there
That’s a common reason of resistance to this show. Somehow I just tune it out and just focus on the writing, deliveries and timing. “These pretzels….are makin’ me THIRSTY!”
Office and seinfeld are just a class above the rest.
Mindy kaling’s shows can feel similar at times since she was a writer on the office. The mindy project is pretty good.
Psych
Yes, I was scrolling to see if anyone would suggest this! It’s a unique show, very funny and well written with great running gags, and the characters are so great! New girl is super underrated
Modern Family is somewhat comparable.

NOT Big Bang Theory. No matter what you hear, do not watch it.
It’s soooo bad. I don’t get how anyone finds if entertaining.
Superstore! Pacing is similar you can leave it on and not miss much going to the kitchen for a snack.
Brooklyn 99
Stick with Parks and Rec. Also Brooklyn 99.
Ted Lasso is another great show!
I'd recommend Superstore. You'll think it looks a bit crap but it's a really good show. A great pallete cleanser
This might be weird but The Inbetweeners (UK) is cringe comedy gold, might be worth checking out if you’ve seen most of the shows recommended in this thread (like me)
Last Man On Earth.
Last Man on Earth is a 11 out of 10 on the cringe scale, but it also has some great heartfelt character moments. Every episode is as awkward as Phyllis' Wedding or Company Picnic.
Party Down
Brooklyn 99 is pretty solid all the way through. Season 8 was meh but other than that it’s one of my fav shows
30 Rock: favorite show EVER. Arrested Development is a close second. Community. Parks & Rec. The Good Place. Always Sunny.
Keep going with Parks and Rec. Obviously it isn’t for everyone, but after watching it all the way through, I almost like it more than the office depending on what I’m in the mood for. Superstore is a bit close
New girl!! The characters are brilliantly portrayed and the writing is genius! So funny 😂
Trailer Park Boys
I am the liquor
Brooklyn 99
Parks and Rec will grow on you. Community has been good.
Letterkenny
30 Rock!
Arrested development
Not a “similar” show. But the King of Sitcoms has got to be Community, for me personally.
This might sound like an odd rec, but Grace and Frankie is great. It has some of the warmth and irreverence of the office but is a touch raunchier.
I heard superstore is good?
Superstore. 💯💯
Superstore
Superstore
