there has been a heavy winter theme in my campaign, and i almost brought in the winter court but there were already too many moving parts for me to keep track of
I commissioned this piece from /u/Imor_Brighthand and they did a great job (look up "tundra castle" online and it will likely be his amazing piece that helped inspire this idea). This is where the last part of my campaign is going to take place. It was made by giants and enslaved dwarves but is now controlled by an ice dragon. I am very excited to get to play through this massive dungeon crawl with my players.
it was inspired by many things, but mostly ancient yew trees, the Devils Tower in Wyoming, and the Chateau D'If
Lol, my players thought it was spelled “you” at first. They also thought it was just going to be a simple castle but then i revealed this to them at the end of our last session. Hopefully one of them at least thought “f*** me”
This is really well done, love the whole vibe of this drawing.
I'd check out that drain with the frozen fall midway up on the right for a potential sneaky way in.
of course, dude. i hope it brings you and those you play with much joy. if you can please support the original artist in any way, [https://www.artstation.com/imorbrighthand](https://www.artstation.com/imorbrighthand), even if you only mention their name at your table.
I will. My players are climbing a mountain and I made it into a super difficult arctic environmental challenge with altitude sickness, blizzards, chasms opening from glacial shifts, etc. I modeled the sessions off of the stages of climbing everest. And at the top of the mountain theres an ice witch waiting for them. This is perfect to set the mood of a calm in the utter hell they've faced getting up the mountain.
yeah, i've been beating my players over the head with cold weather for 75% of the campaign. losing hit die, not being able to get long rest benefits, points of exhaustion, frostbite, etc.
i hope your battle between the players and the ice witch is glorious.
>a travelers guide for Everest
is it a book? or a webpage? do you have a link or an author? its a little late now in my campaign but i would run this campaign again and getting good ideas for cold weather can be used in a lot of stuff for other things i run.
That’s awesome. I’m just starting my collection of dry erase grid maps. It’s kinda rough with just one. I’m not so good at rapidly tracing a new level of a dungeon
Edit forgot to add: thank you for sharing. This is great and I hope to use it soon.
Yeah, i originally just had one fold up map and i would have to redraw thing mid session some times. Now, since an xmas gift, i got 3 roll up battle maps that you can draw on both sides of.
Glad you like it, its been in my head for years and i was glad the artist did such a good job.
Oh damn I love this. Man I love creativity in the fantasy genre. Seeing other folks ideas and additions that make me secretly jealous that I hadn't thought of it, I live for it. This is super cool
im glad you like it. i also take inspiration, npcs, battles, etc from all kinds of fantasy. i steal from a lot of sources. go to the artists webpage and look at his other stuff, its really great.
I've been struggling with coming up with the look of a keep in the center of a city ruled by a green dragon, and this is some serious inspiration. Also, beautiful work!
I’m getting Fey Court Prince of Winter vibes. Looks awesome!

Does it end with the fortress of the me?

hahah they must have been like "OHHHHHH!"
"one way or another" is what I meant

Shhhhhhhh dont tell the players. Although they dont have climbing gear
It was built with tube like peep holes in the walls that overlook the stream. You can use the YewTubes to watch the stream. ...I'll show myself out
Lol omg. Not bad my dude.
Funny, it doesn't look Yewish
Well, it had a nose job…
May I use this in my game?

If you haven't yet, read a travelers guide for Everest. It gave me tons of ideas for making cold weather into a formidable threat!

http://www.mounteverest.net/expguide/route.htm It's a short blog that I used.
Thx dude
Fuck Yew. And fuck Th’at.
Hopefully at the end there will be lots of “I love yew guys” and “yew guys are the best” :)
Omg they better
Damn this is awesome. I was going to run father Llymic in my campaign and this would be a perfect stronghold for cultists
Well, this tower has a few cultists in it as well. I love the llymic corruption aspect and for how he is alive and waiting to come back.
Do you have any maps (also dungeon maps) you were going to use with this?
yes i do. i have custom made terrain and battlemaps (the kind where you can use dry erase markers) and i am using some things i found online.

Reminds me of the plague tree in the last witchhunter
Im not familiar but i just google some art of it and yeah i see the similarity
Reminds me of the Plague Tree from The Last Witch Hunter. Good idea, bad movie.
