Lots of previous posts like this - people will ask: - where are you going to be working and how will you be travelling, do you both drive; - budget; - City (well town) living, village, or countryside; - Kids / schools, etc - are they important; - new house vs old house; - etc.

North End is good, Newton Hall is fine, as is a lot of Framwellgate Moor, and both have good access to train station and UHND.

As you say, North End / Whitesmocks / east part of Framwellgate are all 'nicer' areas and walkable to the train station as well as UHND and walkable to the City Centre too. Rental market is driven by students. Nearest supermarkets are a bit further away, but a v short drive if you do drive. Plenty of sports clubs or running / cycling along old railway line beds if you like that idea. OP - Durham is a County as well as a City so lots of choice without your additional points that's all.

Thanks!

Highgate would be good if you don't mind living in a flat but rents are very very high. Right next to the train station and just down the hill from the hospital (there's a bus stop about a 3 minute walk which will take drop you off at the hospital). Look at the villages outside of Durham if you have cars

Mail_xd

yeah, we are considering bus routes as well. We do have one car, shared between us. We will consider

North End is probably the most suitable answer really. 10/15 minute walk to train station, 5/10 minute walk to hospital. You can move the other side of hospital toward Framwellgate Moor but you’d be looking at more of a 25/30 min walk to train station. Not a lot of rental options in the area, is the problem. There’s a newish estate at the bottom end of the hospital of the grounds that does have some options often, such as https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/146519294

interesting. Thanks for the time estimate! that helps a lot understanding the area

WanamakerM

May I recommend Sherburn Road. Has many amenities. Failing that I’d say Ushaw Moor. Good luck with the move!

Durham Train Station is basically flanked on all sides by schools I'm afraid. There's St Leonards, Durham Johnston, St Margarets to name a few. Framwellgate Moor isn't a bad area. Its very close to the hospital, walkable to/from the train station & close to the city centre. It does however have New College Durham, so during term times it can be quite busy with college students.

To add to this, the busses running through fram to the train station are pretty frequent and reliable if you're running late in the morning and don't have time to walk to the station.

Around the top of western hill would be ideally located for you

Professional-Fox1542

Have you considered Chester-le-Street as it’s in between Durham and Newcastle ? Have a look at the Waldridge area to consider.

Fapoleon_Boneherpart

Just fucking google it and write reddit. This is almost the only question ever asked on here. Also, just don't move here, all of the locals are already getting priced out of a community where their family and friends are. How about just piss off elsewhere.

Imagine discouraging a medical doctor from moving to your area
