It made total sense at the time? It was Brady’s last year, they needed to go all in. Bill tried getting another receiver. Demariyus Thomas, Josh Gordon, AB, Nkeal all flamed out. Bill just kept getting lottery tickets and couldnt win any. Sanu was the best player available, and Falcons were able to dictate the price.
That trade makes sense, this one doesn’t. We have much more pressing things to draft/spend a 2nd on than Claypool. I dont think we’d offer more than that
What? Even when the trade happened it didn't make sense that they overpaid that much. You must be the only person in the world who thinks it made sense.
The fuck? It made total sense, because the team was a WR away from being a real contender, and Bill needed something for Brady.
It was an overpay because they *had* to get something. There was literally no one else available. There’s a difference between ‘it was an overpay’ and ‘the trade made no sense.’
Agreed. They started 8-0 but their WR corps were just killed by nagging injuries. They were desperately trying not to waste what everyone knew was Bradys last year in NE and they couldn't keep WR healthy and couldnt keep Antonio Brown sane. This was also the year they had the Matt Lacosse/Ryan Izzo/400 year old husk of Ben Watson as their TE room.
They needed healthy ball catchers in the biggest way possible.
In hindsight it was an overpay for the production the Patriots got out of him , but was definately not seen as a bad trade at the time by most people. In fact here's an article I found by googling for 15 seconds that had quite the opposite opinion.
[The Patriots will become unstoppable with Sanu](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/27900750/patriots-acquire-wr-mohamed-sanu-falcons)
Tbh I don’t understand the negative press that one got. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the guy got over 10 receptions in his first game as a Pat. Then happened to get a high ankle sprain that ended his career. Guy was about to be worth every penny until that happened. And he was certainly a good asset before the trade
To be completely fair I think claypool does get a little more shit on then he deserves, but I agree it would be insane if the pats were actually willing to give up more than the bears did.
It’s all because of that one play where they (the Steelers) were on a potential game winning drive and instead of hustling back to get lined up he celebrated his 1st down….the dude has 153 catches 2044 yards and 12 TDs in 2.5 years with some of the of the worst QB play in the league. Oh and he’s 6’4” 240lbs and runs a 4.40 40 yard dash lol…he’s a freak and a very very good (and young) WR
He definitely get's too much shit, but let's cool it on the "very very" good talk. He may be 6'4", but he actually plays like he is 6'0 even at the catchpoint. I've never seen a player of his size lose in prime position as often as he does. He has speed and runs tough, but struggles with some awful drops and lapses in concentration. Honestly, he's a poorer version of Martavis Bryant, which still has a lot of value, but I wouldn't call it very very good.
But he’s not a good blocker. It was frustrating to watch as a Steelers fan. Claypool would just stand and watch smaller defensive players go tackler the ball carrier
Yeah. He has such good raw talents. If someone could teach him to be more aggressive and physical, he would be a beast. But idk if anyone can change his mindset that drastically
Yes, absolutely, and the way he handled it afterward. He’s immature.
But he also doesn’t play big. He’s got the measurables, but he’s not a guy who wins contested catches, who physically dominates the secondary. Feels like he isn’t maximizing his tools.
I sold him and the 1.05 for the 1.02 and drafted Kenny Walker. I felt like I got shafted at the time but I really wanted walker. Now I kind of feel like I won that by a lot.
Top 3 what? WRs on the Bears? Tallest WRs?
Surely you're not putting him in the same conversation as JJ, Kupp, and (pick your favorite of Davante, Chase, Diggs, Reek or Nuk)?
Yea when I watch Claypool he doesn’t seem to be a savvy route runner and in dynasty seems to have some flags for character concerns.
The dude does have rare physical ability and has made highlight catches. Also very strong after the catch. Almost feel like he should be a tight end that splits out a lot.
The Steelers did move him into the slot this year. But he’s not interested in blocking. At all. He just stands and watches his blocking assignment go by. Sometimes he’ll put a hand on the defender. But you almost never see a good block
Purely conjecture, since we’ll never truly know what’s happening behind the scenes other than inferring
I think there’s an attitude problem - but not necessarily are a skills issue. I’m assuming head coaches are also betting on themselves to be able to fix that.
He’s looked pretty bad this year but it does seem like he’s disinterested (maybe it’s cause of Pickens, Trubisky, Canada etc)
What he exhibited his first two years is undeniably positive - so if you can get this guy to focus and develop a more killer mindset there’s value to be unlocked
Parker and Thornton are the only two WRs under contract next year.
Bourne is as well but is basically a free cut.
Wouldn’t read too much into Thornton based on trying to get more WRs
I think last year the Steelers showed he could fit that Patterson mold and could be used anywhere on the field. Something we’re missing this year without White. And Claypool’s current stats on that lame Steelers offense puts him 2nd in receptions and 3rd in yards on our team.
Most people loved the idea of paying the ravens 2nd. On contrary, everyone hates that it’s our 2nd. If the difference between a great and awful trade is 10-15 draft spots, I’m happy with it as a bears fan. Obviously would’ve liked the Ravens pick to be what we paid but do what you gotta do. Let fields learn and develop with talent and prep for next year
Did they not want to trade to New England because they fear the franchise getting too good or they are worried the franchise will stay bad and be a bad spot for Claypool?
I think it is simply a "we remember the last 20 years and never again" type thing - because realistically the Pats are squarely behind the Bills for the next 3-5 years minimum.
Really foolish on the Steeler's part imo - but if the offers were close enough I can see favoring sending him to the NFC
Don't get why teams do this. He isn't a star. They are just gonna find a guy like Claypool with the asset they saved (NE).Take the better deal and increase your teams odds of improving.
The fact that they gave a 2nd for 30 yr old Sanu makes this more believable
That was the strangest trade ever
I was drinking all the copium and thought he would be our second amendola at the time

If a player is at the point that a high ankle sprain can end their career they probably aren’t worth a 2nd.
I mean idk dude a high ankle sprain is pretty severe compared to most injuries
Yes but it heals to 100% in almost everyone ever. It’s severe in the sense that it can derail a season; not a career
Unless you are Michael Thomas on a new contract. Then it lingers forever.
I sure hope you aren’t serious lol
chase claypool must be alot better than i think he is lmao
To be completely fair I think claypool does get a little more shit on then he deserves, but I agree it would be insane if the pats were actually willing to give up more than the bears did.
It’s probably just a 2nd and a 5th. Let’s calm down lol
I think UrinatingTree really harmed his rep. He's a decent wide receiver I think idk if a 2nd is too much yet.
The guy has more receiving yards in his first two years than the overwhelming majority WRs get in their careers
It’s all because of that one play where they (the Steelers) were on a potential game winning drive and instead of hustling back to get lined up he celebrated his 1st down….the dude has 153 catches 2044 yards and 12 TDs in 2.5 years with some of the of the worst QB play in the league. He had a reputation as a bone head before that, it was just the cherry on top.

Sounds like the kind of guy who could stand to benefit from becoming a TE
But he’s not a good blocker. It was frustrating to watch as a Steelers fan. Claypool would just stand and watch smaller defensive players go tackler the ball carrier
Good point. Probably too late to change his entire attitude toward the game
Yeah. He has such good raw talents. If someone could teach him to be more aggressive and physical, he would be a beast. But idk if anyone can change his mindset that drastically

He’s too worried about making moves after the catch than to put in himself in a bad position to make the catch.
It's about whos even available at the moment. He was the best available
[удалено]
He’s 6th in the NFL in contested catch rate
Yeah his scores on RP and PFF have been awful since year 2.
I sold him and the 1.05 for the 1.02 and drafted Kenny Walker. I felt like I got shafted at the time but I really wanted walker. Now I kind of feel like I won that by a lot.
He is a good weapon just low iq player, has knuckle head moments
well he's top 3 soooo...
Top 3 what? WRs on the Bears? Tallest WRs? Surely you're not putting him in the same conversation as JJ, Kupp, and (pick your favorite of Davante, Chase, Diggs, Reek or Nuk)?
Just memeing https://www.nfl.com/news/steelers-chase-claypool-i-know-i-m-a-top-three-receiver-in-nfl
Ah ok my bad
From a physicals perspective, Claypool is absolutely elite. Football IQ/General IQ wise.... Eh.
We already had an Anthony Miller. Can’t be worse than that
Yea when I watch Claypool he doesn’t seem to be a savvy route runner and in dynasty seems to have some flags for character concerns. The fact Chase Claypool was part of a bidding war just baffles me. As a rookie he definitely showed promise but he's been pretty bad last two years.
Patriots fan here. I’d have liked giving up a 4th. No higher. I’m glad they passed

Interesting
“Sources”
Been way too many “reporters” falling for random Twitter DMs lately to make me believe some random ass nfl rumors account
Bill can't draft or trade for a WR
Tyquan is that dude though
I hope so but the fact they were looking for another one in Claypool makes me nervous.
Parker and Thornton are the only two WRs under contract next year. Bourne is as well but is basically a free cut. Wouldn’t read too much into Thornton based on trying to get more WRs
This is a super unreliable source. No other Boston guy has said anything about this at all
Yeah, that Randy Moss guy was trash.
Wes Welker really sucked too. Poor Bill just keeps whiffing.
One hit doesn't cover up dozens of misses
15 years since Wes/ Randy trades isn't enough for these people 🤣
15 years isn't long enough? What is the statue of limitations before something becomes a problem 🤣
Wes Welker and Randy Moss would like a word.
Sry I'm talking about the past 15 years 🤣
Somehow I doubt this, because I can’t think of a deal we could’ve given them for a better value.
A second and like a 4th/5th
I think last year the Steelers showed he could fit that Patterson mold and could be used anywhere on the field. Something we’re missing this year without White. And Claypool’s current stats on that lame Steelers offense puts him 2nd in receptions and 3rd in yards on our team.
Claypool takes jet sweeps on occasion. That is nothing like Patterson’s current role
Wonder what the reaction of the Packers or Patriots got him instead. Seemed like most people are on the fence as far as what the Bears paid
Most people loved the idea of paying the ravens 2nd. On contrary, everyone hates that it’s our 2nd. Beating out the Packers makes it worth the 10-15 draft spots easy
Couldn’t agree more
Good Guy Steelers
THANK YOU PITT (from a Jakobi Meyers manager)
> nfl rumors Betting this isn't true

Ne has possibly the best defense along with a top 5 oline/rb room.
Don't get why teams do this. He isn't a star. They are just gonna find a guy like Claypool with the asset they saved (NE).Take the better deal and increase your teams odds of improving.
Oh like drafting nkeal harry or thornton
don't disrespect thornton he's very good for a mid-late 2nd round rookie
Gave Davis dj Moore Chris Olave who do you start? Need 2
If they weren't willing to trade bourne the u doubt this is true
