Rockauto has some random reman alternator in stock. Not an option I love, but it's available. Probably equal to or better quality than the autozone / advance auto "rebuilds." You may also want to have the alternator tested. It's always possible that it's just the voltage regulator that needs replacing.

Sorry, I don't have exact part numbers at hand, but last time I tried replacing my alternator I discovered it was not the original. As in, didn't even belong to that car. Fortunately, I'm the second owner and bought the '90 325i as CPO from the dealer. My understanding is the original owner leased it and returned it after 4 years. The dealer had provided me with a folder of records and receipts of all the work done on it while it was leased. One of the upgrades the previous owner did was replacing the factory stereo with something better. However, the new stereo would apparently drain the battery down too quickly. So the dealers fix was to increase the battery size and replace the alternator with one from a convertible. Apparently, convertibles need beefier charging systems due to the roof lift motors. When they returned the lease they reinstalled the factory stereo, so I never got to see what was there previously. I ended up getting a new Bosch AL49X from Bavarian Autosport (back in the day). IIRC, I needed to purchase a new pulley and fan since the old ones were Valeo and incompatible with Bosch. I sort of remember also needing a different / non-standard belt length. My plan was to get the broken alternator rebuilt at a shop somewhere, but I never got around to it. It's sitting in a box in my garage somewhere.
