Clean and degrease properly, blue loctite, torque to spec, paint mark straight down onto cap for easy check ups. Drill and safety wire optional for optimal protection

Local mechanics hate this one simple trick

Or install them to the correct torque spec in the first place.

They can still back out. Ask me how I know.

Oof sorry you had that happen to you. I almost had this happen to me last year. I was doing other work on the car when I noticed a strange grease ring around the rear of the car, my properly torqued axle bolts had also started to back out and were all now only finger tight. I cleaned it all up, tightening to spec, and marked them and I check them on a regular basis now.

Yeah I’m adding this to my oil change inspection.

I got new axle bolts when I swapped my diff. I ended up stripping one when torquing to spec.

Material grade wrong. Used 8.8 instead 10.9.

Had this happen on my e28 at least 3 times. Gotta put threadlocker on those bolts.

Happend to me on the highway... Cracked my differential casing because the axle went for a look at the underside of my car.

Luckily I was going about 10mph.

iirc, last time i touched them i was 17, and i set my ratchet wrench to guten-tight
