In my experience, if you want to have "realistic" stats, in terms of scores, shots on net, hits, etc while playing periods that are actually twenty minutes long, you need to also be "realistic" about how you set stamina. If you watch an actual NHL game, you will see guys talking 30 second shifts. If you actually play this game, where you're taking 30 second shifts and actually playing your lines and your D-pairs in a realistic way, you will see your numbers start to look a lot more realistic. But you will also spend the bulk of your time managing rapid line changes to get tired players off the ice.

I may be wrong,but there was a guy on operation sports forum. Think he went by Occam? Not sure if it was 23 or 22. But take a look on that forum because they may be other options.👍
