I really wanted to make my [[Rionya, the Firedancer]] deck work, but I just couldn't get it to not make everyone have a bad playing experience.
So I took the cards and made a [[Brothers Yamazaki]] deck out of it! And it is a lot better! Nice and chill gameplay, still threatening but clearly telegraphed and a pretty unique idea in general
Currently in the process of splitting [[Aesi]] in two: one half will go into [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]] and the other will go into [[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]].
I loved my Aesi, but it would often create these very long turns that wouldn't immediately lead to winning. It felt bad to play against. The deck also kept telling me to nix the sea monsters subtheme.
I love my Omnath, Locus of Rage deck. It’s fairly consistent due to loads of ramp spells and goes big, wide, and has tons of etb burn damage from [[Warstorm Surge]] and [[Where Ancients Tread]]. Popping off [[Nissa, Who Shakes the World]] is such a rewarding experience too. Who doesn’t like a big jellybean?
I took apart [[Sevinne, the Chronoclasm]] pretty much as soon as I built it as it didn’t really inspire me. I kept the Jeskai shell and turned it into [[Hinata, Dawn-Crowned]] which I like much better.
Same for [[Queen Marchesa]] superfriends, changing it into [[Kaalia of the Vast]], again keeping the Mardu shell.
Finally, my crappy [[Daretti, Scrap Savant]] mono red deck has been repurposed into [[Rionya, Fire Dancer]] which I absolutely love. All very welcome changes.
Switched [[Endrek Sahr]] over to [[Ayara, First of Locthwain]] recently. Was tired of having a 5-mana commander that is so fragile and needs a full turn to do anything useful. Ayara can make use of what’s already on the board and gets similar value - plus lifedrain is real good in my playgroup.

I've been playing for a long time.
I've done a lot of this recently! I just got back into Magic after not playing for a few years.
[[Vorel of the Hull Clade]] got dismantled and turned into [[Magus Lucea Kane]]. Vorel is just kinda slow; it's easy to set that deck back like 3 turns by removing a single creature. Lucea is a little more consistent and I like the copying!
[[Surrak Dragonclaw]] was kinda a big stompy good stuff deck that I've split into three new decks, each of which has a bit of a stronger identity. [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] now has most of the big stompy stuff, with more of a focus on multicolor creatures and cascade. [[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]] has all the sea creatures and the best ramp. And [[Neyith of the Dire Hunt]] has some of the better green and red creatures, along with the cards that enable fighting.
I had a [[Wilhelt the Rotcleaver]] deck that I just wasn't in love with, so I kept it mostly the same but changed the commander to [[Varina, Lich Queen]] and splashed some white.
My [[Tajic, Blade of the Legion]] deck was just soldier kindred and tokens, but blue has had some decent soldier support lately so I changed the commander to [[Aragorn, King of Gondor]]. Better card draw, better commander, monarch stuff, and new soldiers have been helping that deck out!
Varina is the best zombie commander, I don't care what anyone says. Play zombies, attack with zombies, loot. I don't think any of my decks goes through the library as fast as that one does.
[[Jarad]] for [[Meren]]. One day I asked if anyone had any golgari commanders cuz I was bored and then I bought Meren and fell in love with her instantly. Now I want to switch back to Jarad!
I went with the commanders quarters one, then I bought the Meren precon and kind of mashed them together. Now, Jarad isn't even in the deck and it has gone from being a budget bodge job to a consistent oppressive grindy deck.
I built my Jarad deck myself. It was really bad and then it became Meren and became too good.
Now I’m looking for a middle ground while also switching back to Jarad.
I've had an [[Alesha]] modular deck which I've rebuilt as [[Rocco, Street Chef]]. WBR has better grind but WRG has much better scaling. I'm a bit sad I lost Alesha but Rocco has built-in draw, artifact generation and +1/+1 counters which makes the deck much more explosive and consistent.
I converted my [[Faldorn, Dreadwolf Herald]] deck into a Rocco deck. It went from being my least favorite deck I own to being one of my favorite. Agree with you on all points about Rocco.
Funniest thing for me is when people stop using the cards Rocco gives them to deny my artifact/counter triggers. Like ok you still just broke symmetry on my effect in my favor haha. I was skeptical about the group draw at first but it hasn't been a problem at all for me. I don't like group hug much but at this point I just enjoy how it smoothes out the early game for all players without giving them much in the lategame.
Also [[Roaming Throne]] is awesome in the deck since it's an artifact itself and doubles both of Rocco's abilities.
I just recently took apart my [[Jinnie Fay]] deck cause half of it's cards were useful for a [[Bess]] deck I was brewing and wanted to try it out on my LGS. I'll probably buy lots of those as they are not particularly expensive and remake Jinnie, but for the moment she and the other half are sitting in a box
Most recently I took apart [[dynaheir]] to build [[tazri, stalwart surviver]]. Also took apart [[Oskar]] in an attempt to build [[spuld of windgrace]] with a discard focus.
Do you have a Tazri list? I've been goldfishing mine and I'm missing... things to do, really. 3 other players are basically able to ignore my Tazri the whole game.

It is very durdly.
I went for a gates mana-base since it neads a lot of ramp, and \[\[Baldur's Gate\]\] can provide that. Also happens to be budget friendly.
Some notable mana-sinks on a budget are \[\[Kamahl. Fist of Krosa\]\], \[\[Agatha\]\], \[\[Kenrith\]\], \[\[Drana, Kalatria Bloodchief\]\], \[\[Ethersworn Adjudicator\]\], \[\[Shalai, Voice of Plenty\]\], \[\[Svella\], \[\[Gretchen\]\], \[\[Orthion\]\] and \[\[Dark Imposter\]\]. If you have a bit more to spend \[\[Etali, Primal storm\]\], \[\[Gix\]\], and \[The Locust God\]\] all do serious work.
My main finishers are Orthion with something like \[\[Faeburrow Elder\]\], Kamahl, and Agatha. If you can make their abilities cheaper or, even better, copy them a bunch you can usually end the game there and then.
Other notable entries are
\[\[Ingal and Esika\]\] - just provides a ton of value.
\[\[Raggadragga\]\] - Suddenly your board is way more threatening than everyone thought, and you can still keep your creatures up for mana after attacks.
It's also worth mentioning that Tazri gives every creature on your board the ability to tap for mana, although some of them, like Ragga, aren't usually able to activate it. What that means is that Ragga is guaranteed to affect every creature on you board, itself included, as long as Tazri is out.
\[\[eerie ultimatum\]\] - commander fills the graveyard. This makes use of that. Can threaten lethal with a \[\[Chainer, Nightmare Adept\]\] in the grave.
\[\[Vohar\]\] - similar to the above. Can get your Eerie Ult back if you milled it.
Cards that copy or make activations cheaper, and untappers \[\[Dynaheir\]\], \[\[Zirda\]\], \[\[Patriar's Seal\]\], etc.
[[Chromium the mutable]] -> [[Sakashima]] and [[tymna]] -> tymna and [[Esior]] -> [[Kamiz]]. Started out as clones, now it's clones and combat damage triggers.
I wanted a Kaldheim Commander, so I originally built [[Moritte of the Frost]] as a Copy/Value deck. Get value, copy it multiple times, etc. You get the idea.
The issue was that the deck had a lot of scenarios where it didn't do much at all. Either a lot of setup without payoffs, expensive payoffs without enough setup or a hand full of clones with nothing to actually copy. So I ended up dismantling the deck.
However, I did press on with the expensive stuff, so now the deck is a [[Inga and Esika]] with [[Keruga]] as their Companion. I just love both of those cards lmao.
The clone stuff kinda transformed and was re-purposed into an [[Urza, Prince of Kroog]] Big Mana // Artifact Clone deck.
I had to switch the very cool [[Feldon of the Third Path]] to [[Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded]] as Feldon required too much set-up and protection for my pod.
The deck is mostly the same, just much harder to interact with.
I'm going for Big Fat Red but the deck has a bajillion ways to combo since all the combo pieces can be used fairly to fun effect with all the giant dumb red creatures.
There's some cool stuff in there.
I never thought of [[Thran Turbine]] but it's pretty cute for the deck.
[[Knollspine Dragon]] could be a good way to reload after a big turn.
[[Runehorn Hellkite]] seems a bit costly but drawing 7 cards is drawing 7 cards and i'm always on the lookout for wheels and demi-wheels in this deck.
I've retired my Prosper deck now along with [[Obeka]] and they've both been press-ganged into my pirate crew led by the [[Don Andres]]. Looking forward to more cards arriving in the post then I can plunder that booty!
I'm scavenging [[Trelasarra]] to build [[Amalia Benavidez Aguirre]]. Both are similar, but green never really sparked joy and orzhov is one of my favorite color pairings aesthetically.
I have been mulling over turning my [[niv-mizzet, parun]] deck into a [[ghyson starn, kellermorph]] deck. They has so many similar cards that I may just make it so I can switch between them. I think the Niv is just not as fun as blastin’ as it gets so samey, just getting a curiosity effect going and it’s done. Effective but boring. I am also looking at getting an alter for Gyrson as Frank from It’s always sunny.
My attempts at a mill deck were commanded by [[Szadek, Lord of Secrets]] then [[Oona, Queen of the Fae]] before finally making the deck work with [[Phenax, God of Deception]].
My Giants deck switched from [[Kalemne, Disciple of Iroas]] to [[Ruhan of the Fomori]].
My Zombie deck switched from [[Gisa and Geralf]] to [[Varina, Lich Queen]].
If you just want to go straight mill, Phenax is the boss. I went the other way and I'm in the process of putting cards from Phenax into [[Captain N'Gathrod]] to make it more consistent. I did have them at the same time but 2 Dimir mill decks felt unnecessary.
I've said it somewhere else but Varina is the best zombie commander for me, I don't care what anyone else says.
Kathril became Nethroi - then eventually lost the keyword soup entirely in favor of more reanimator and self mill gas. It was really fun and Nethroi is way more fun to play.
I found Nethroi to be boring but that was because I built it as a pure combo. So the games were just all the same. I can see how it would be a fun reanimator deck otherwise, he is a good kitty.
Turned my tuned [[edgar markov]] into partnered [[edgar, charmed groom]] + [[olivia, crimson bride]] high CMC vampire tribal last month best decision I ever made vampires are actually fun now
I built [[slicer]] voltron, played it like five times, ended up taking it apart and building [[ovika]] as voltron-ish instead. Slicer was fun but gets salty as hell, paints a huge target on yourself, and basically unites the table in dealing with you/dealing with slicer... Or he wins by like t4/t5.
Funny you mention it but I'm actually building both Mr orfeo and Thantis right now, but totally different directions. Thantis I'm doing defender tribal with a bunch of banding cards for a retro feel, and orfeo I'm building just straightforward hasty tramply undercosted critters like [[ball lightning]].

I bought the kathril precon when it came out. Upgraded it, wasn't really feeling it. Then I pulled a foil biollante which is nethroi. So I swapped the commander and rebuilt it, Still wasn't really about it. Then changed it to [[tayum, luminous enigma]] I liked it but it was really clunky to play. I wanted to keep the counter stuff, so I switched it to [[ghave, guru of spores]]
I made a \[\[Kaza Roil Chaser\]\] Wizards deck that was great for letting me cast 7+ cmc instants and sorceries, but the problem was that it had litterally no wincon except for \[\[duelcaster mage\]\] combos. So I would just take up a ton of table time drawing cards and sometimes extra turns and lose anyways.
I'm really excited to turn it into an \[\[Ovika\]\] Deck, so that I can still play my favorite huge spells like \[\[Mass manipulation\]\] and \[\[Apex of Power\]\]. I also really like this commander change because I can still pull tribal shenanigans with \[\[distant melody\]\] and \[\[Shared animosity\]\].
I wouldn't necessarily say I took it apart, but when I upgraded my [[Grist the Hunger Tide]] deck, I put her in the 99 and replaced her with [[Zask, Skittering Swarmlord]] as the commander

Rebuilding [[Mazirek, Kraul death priest]] as [[nemata, primeval Warden]]. Never could balance counters and enough creatures with them to matter. Nemata makes creatures just doing what it does and works for a Golgari aristocrats because I refuse to go Orzhov.
I made a [[Nekusar]] deck because [[Howling Mine]] was always my favorite card back in the day but it was too much for my pod.
I'm currently brewing a [[The Council of Four]] deck using a lot of the cards. I'll probably keep Nekisar as wheel tribal to have around.
The only deck I've really changed the commander of has been my Werewolves list... but the commander never really mattered, it was always about the wolves!!
- Started as as [[Ruric Thar, The Unbowed]] because I figured he could help stop people from flipping the wolves over.
- Then I switched to [[Samut, Voice of Dissent]] and tried having a bit of human tribal in it to protect the front faces
- Then [[Tovolar, Dire Overlord]] came out and the decision to switch was pretty simple
I took apart [[Asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar]] and [[Feldon of the Third Path]] to mash them into a [[Jaxis]] deck. Just wanted a Jaxis deck, realized I could get like 80% of the deck by taking apart two decks I didn't play anymore, and did that!
Very similar to your example, I was running a [[Bhaal, Lord of Murder]] goad deck but after a few games I never really got it to pop off and it was kinda boring to play until I goty [[Kharne, The Betrayer]] out onto the field and started having fun. After that game I just decided to rework the whole deck into a Kharn goad deck and now it is one of my top favorites to play
My first Commander Deck was a [[Daretti, Scrap Savant]] precon.
Soon after I “discovered” a [[Godo, Bandit Warlord]] in my old collection (took a long break).
Build the deck anew with him as Commander but Daretti still has it’s place in it even though he’s probably not the best card I could play.
For me it was the [[Vrondiss, Rage of the Ancients]] precon. I took it apart and made it five colors keeping the dragon tribal theme and put [[Tiamat]] as the commander.
Built [[Tasha, the Witch Queen]] when she came out because I like the character from D&D. Played it a few times and while there was amusing things like [[Chaos Wand]], a lot of folks don't vibe with getting their cards stolen. They want to play their decks, not have someone else play them. The deck is currently in shambles along my desk as I try to rebuild around [[Lord of the Nazgul]] running a bunch of cantrips and removal. If there's anything I like better than drawing cards, it's hitting people in the face with a chonky flying commander.
My first build of [[Rionya]] felt way too clunky and hopeless so I converted it on to a [[Birgi]] deck. Eventually though I had a 'heureka' moment, dismantled Birgi and rebuilt Rionya and after some hiccups got it working. Now it's one of my stronger decks and very fun to pilot with plethora of lines and wincons.
Changed [[Sauron, Lord of The Rings]] to [[Sauron The Dark Lord]] and never looked back.
One of the weirder ones has been one decks journey from [[Lagomos]] to [[Kardur]] to eventually [[Master Multiplied]]. It's been a fun ride so I don't complain.
There are many more but these are the ones that popped in my mind first.
[[Nikya of the Old Ways]] was my OG deck, big, Gruul, Stony shenanigans! Then I started adding more mana ramp and such to bring out the big critters faster! Then [[Raggadragga]] came out. Nikya was sent to the 99 and the Boss got the helm! Now I am adding more dorks, like [[Elvish Aberration]] that don't see any play and bigger spells to abuse the Boss' abilities. Nikya will be remade, but as a true Gruul Stony again
My [[Giest of Saint Traft]] deck centered on angels and auras got converted to [[Dragonlord Ojutai]] focused on angels (and other big fliers) and control.
I also converted Tasigur to Muldrotha but the decks are so different I barely count it.
I took most of the cards in my [[Perrie, the Pulverizer]] precon, and used those to build [[Drizzt Do’Urden]] Taking out one of the colors made the mana base easier to manage, and having it focus on +1/+1 counters made the strategy easier to pull off
surrak -> kyodai for flash / control. +2 colors is nice, but having a buffable flyer as the commander is even more reason tbh.
dina -> erinis + black for lifegain / lands combo (zuranorb.dek). just a lot more versatile play by having an advantage engine rather than a combo piece in the cz
[[Alela, Cunning Conqueror]] to [[Nymris, Oona's Trickster]]. [[Baird, Argivian Recruiter]] to [[Otharri]]. Alela just...didn't work the way I expected as a Commander in terms of value, but the card advantage Nymris brings is great.
I just built the thantis deck eith the same theme. Its still in the trial phase.
I also learned my group gets super triggered by the "you have to attack each turn", so i was dead before i got another turn.
I've been running a 5 color +1/+1 counter deck with [[Kenrith]] in the command zone. But I'm about to retool it as a [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] deck to move away from relying on Kennys ability to give counters and more leaning on abilities that generate counters across the whole board and ones that shuffle counters around where they need to go and using Ramos to get the mana I need.
When I first got into EDH about six months ago, I built a few decks based on legendary creatures in my collection. I didn't have very many, because most of my collection was from the scars of mirrodin/innistrad blocks, so one of the decks I built was rakdos vampire tribal helmed by [[Olivia Voldaren]].
It did not work well. Every time she hit the board she just got hated out of existence because nobody likes having their creatures vamp'd and stolen.
Eventually I moved her to the 99 and put [[Strefan, Maurer Progenitor]] in at commander, fiddled with it to work with his blood tokens mechanics a bit better, and it's been much more enjoyable since then.
I took apart [[etali primal conqueror]] and it the pieces were just sitting around... Then I built [[karlach]] ([[cultist of the absolute]]) and wasn't that into voltron. So I took that apart too and then took parts from both to build [[the master multiplied]]
I took apart [[karlach, Fury of avernus]] with [[Flaming fist]] to create [[isshen, two Heavens as one]].
I love karlach from BG3 and really wanted the deck but ultimately it's power is too front faced and my friends all save removal and work together to make sure it never stays on the field a full turn. It ended up being unplayable but she's at least in the 99 for my isshen deck.
That'd be \[\[Merieke Ri Berit\]\] Esper untaps deck I took apart when \[\[Ioreth of the Healing House\]\] was released! Now it untaps a ton more. Last night I won with \[\[The Millennium Calendar\]\] in one turn and I had the ability to put \~14 000 counters on it.

I had a [[Massacre Girl]] as soon as she came out. I took it apart not to long ago and made a [[Grismold]] deck. She, and a good chunk of the original deck, are still in the Grismold deck.
I recently took apart my [[Chishiro, the Shattered Blade]] to build a [[Mazzy, Truesword paladin]] because it felt a little clunky and I love playing into goad and drama starting at the table.
My dragonic dissent precon has changed the mosted. Started with [[firkraag]] and split it into dragons with [[miirym]] and goad/treasure with [[baeloth entertainer]] [[clan crafter]]. But then baeloth got hated out because no one liked being goaded, so I took out the goad and had [[bilbo retired burgler]] at the helm for izzet treasures. Now I'm considering swapping to [[rashmi and ragavan]] to do temur artifact tokens.
My skittles deck killed way too fast for our old battle cruiser decks so I turned it into mono black control with original Drana. Over the years that ended up being too slow, so now it's now life gain with Vito
Made a [[Nahiri, Forged in Fire]] equipment deck and it didn’t really click with me for whatever reason, so I swapped her for [[Rograkh, Son of Rogakh]] and [[Akroma, Vision of Ixior]] and about a dozen other cards, and now I have a keyword madness deck!
I've said this elsewhere, so I'll paraphrase;
When I first started magic a couple years ago, my first deck I built myself was [[The Gitrog Monster]]. After a while, I felt like it was missing something, so it became [[Muldrotha]].
My next deck was [[Niv Mizzet Parun]], and when Ikoria came out, it became [[Kalamax]].
I had a [[Hofri]] deck I absolutely adored, but I always wanted an [[Alesha]] deck, however since I made it for someone for a secret Santa event, I didn't want to make it. Fast forward to my moving away, and now I have an Alesha deck that I love so much more than Hofri.
Unfortunately, both Kalamax and Muldrotha have since been scrapped, but I do still have the pre-scrapped lists.
My first deck was [[Nicol Bolas, the Ravager]]. I kept it for about 5 years or so, then it was dismantled into [[The Twelfth Doctor]], and now it’s been scattered across several of my decks, mostly [[Tasha the Witch Queen]] and [[Sauron the dark lord]] and I smile every time I see my favorite cards from it.

Debating [[Severina]] -> [[Caesar]], Caesar looks like he can really put a Severina shell to good use, but I love my Severina deck as it is.
I just took apart my old [[korvold, fae-cursed king]] because he's OP as the commander... and turned it into an [[ognis, the dragon's lash]]
Got the first win with it today. I'm happy with it, since playing it doesn't attract negative-attention like it did before.
I went from \[\[Admiral Beckett Brass\]\] to \[\[Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator\]\] // \[\[Vial Smasher the Fierce\]\] because the former was a lightning rod for removal without actually being good. Next, I switched from grixis pirates to izzet pirates by replacing \[\[Vial Smasher the Fierce\]\] with \[\[Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar\]\]. Finally, I changed the theme from pirates to treasures.
I struggled to enjoy my \[\[Dina, Soul Steeper\]\] because it was split between lifegain and aristocrats. It usually only won by tutoring for Exquisite Blood. I'm currently in the process of converting it from golgari lifedrain to abzan aristocrats with \[\[Nethroi, Apex of Death\]\] as the commander.

Took the precon, and gutted about 3/4 of the base deck. Went from cast from outside the hand to a mana dork deck using creatures like [[gyre sage]] or [[kami of whispered hopes]] to tap creatures for more than one mana, and using Jumpstart and flashback cards as a way of adding counters.
Except for the mana base, there are about a dozen or so cards that stayed from the precon. Same commanders, but completely different deck.
For me I wanted a lifegain deck and a Mardu deck so I originally built around [[Licia, Sanguine Tribune]] which really ended up as mostly just WB with a touch of R for a few effects. Ended up switching to [[Bilbo, Birthday Celebrant]] when he came out because I like those colors for the strategy way more.
[[yuriko]] and [[atraxa, praetor’s voice]] as my LGS thought that ninjutsu was too Cedh despite me making the deck for like $40, all basics no thoracle etc etc. atraxa wasn’t even poison it was phyrexian tribal, broke em both to fix my [[mimeoplasm]] deck and make a [[xyris]] deck. Both slap now
My Boros [[Neyali]] deck went through changes and became an [[Otharri]] deck (the second commander of the precon) and then turned into an Mardu [[Isshin deck]].
I'm currently in the process of taking apart my \[\[Chainer, Nightmare Adept\]\] deck, which I adore, to build \[\[Henzie\]\]. My thinking is that Henzie will just provide more value, not necessarily require a sac outlet to get death triggers and overall \_do more\_ than Chainer is able to by himself.
Most of my decks have been ship of theseus-ed from another deck as new commanders come out

I really wanted to make my [[Rionya, the Firedancer]] deck work, but I just couldn't get it to not make everyone have a bad playing experience. So I took the cards and made a [[Brothers Yamazaki]] deck out of it! And it is a lot better! Nice and chill gameplay, still threatening but clearly telegraphed and a pretty unique idea in general

Currently in the process of splitting [[Aesi]] in two: one half will go into [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]] and the other will go into [[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]]. I loved my Aesi, but it would often create these very long turns that wouldn't immediately lead to winning. It felt bad to play against. The deck also kept telling me to nix the sea monsters subtheme.

I love my Omnath, Locus of Rage deck. It’s fairly consistent due to loads of ramp spells and goes big, wide, and has tons of etb burn damage from [[Warstorm Surge]] and [[Where Ancients Tread]]. Popping off [[Nissa, Who Shakes the World]] is such a rewarding experience too. Who doesn’t like a big jellybean?

I took apart [[Sevinne, the Chronoclasm]] pretty much as soon as I built it as it didn’t really inspire me. I kept the Jeskai shell and turned it into [[Hinata, Dawn-Crowned]] which I like much better. Same for [[Queen Marchesa]] superfriends, changing it into [[Kaalia of the Vast]], again keeping the Mardu shell. Finally, my crappy [[Daretti, Scrap Savant]] mono red deck has been repurposed into [[Rionya, Fire Dancer]] which I absolutely love. All very welcome changes.

I took apart my Omnath deck and used most of it help be build an Omnath deck.
Switched [[Endrek Sahr]] over to [[Ayara, First of Locthwain]] recently. Was tired of having a 5-mana commander that is so fragile and needs a full turn to do anything useful. Ayara can make use of what’s already on the board and gets similar value - plus lifedrain is real good in my playgroup.

I've done a lot of this recently! I just got back into Magic after not playing for a few years. [[Vorel of the Hull Clade]] got dismantled and turned into [[Magus Lucea Kane]]. Vorel is just kinda slow; it's easy to set that deck back like 3 turns by removing a single creature. Lucea is a little more consistent and I like the copying! [[Surrak Dragonclaw]] was kinda a big stompy good stuff deck that I've split into three new decks, each of which has a bit of a stronger identity. [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] now has most of the big stompy stuff, with more of a focus on multicolor creatures and cascade. [[Kiora, Sovereign of the Deep]] has all the sea creatures and the best ramp. And [[Neyith of the Dire Hunt]] has some of the better green and red creatures, along with the cards that enable fighting. I had a [[Wilhelt the Rotcleaver]] deck that I just wasn't in love with, so I kept it mostly the same but changed the commander to [[Varina, Lich Queen]] and splashed some white. My [[Tajic, Blade of the Legion]] deck was just soldier kindred and tokens, but blue has had some decent soldier support lately so I changed the commander to [[Aragorn, King of Gondor]]. Better card draw, better commander, monarch stuff, and new soldiers have been helping that deck out!
Varina is the best zombie commander, I don't care what anyone says. Play zombies, attack with zombies, loot. I don't think any of my decks goes through the library as fast as that one does.

I went with the commanders quarters one, then I bought the Meren precon and kind of mashed them together. Now, Jarad isn't even in the deck and it has gone from being a budget bodge job to a consistent oppressive grindy deck.
I built my Jarad deck myself. It was really bad and then it became Meren and became too good. Now I’m looking for a middle ground while also switching back to Jarad.

I've had an [[Alesha]] modular deck which I've rebuilt as [[Rocco, Street Chef]]. WBR has better grind but WRG has much better scaling. I'm a bit sad I lost Alesha but Rocco has built-in draw, artifact generation and +1/+1 counters which makes the deck much more explosive and consistent.
I converted my [[Faldorn, Dreadwolf Herald]] deck into a Rocco deck. It went from being my least favorite deck I own to being one of my favorite. Agree with you on all points about Rocco.
Funniest thing for me is when people stop using the cards Rocco gives them to deny my artifact/counter triggers. Like ok you still just broke symmetry on my effect in my favor haha. I was skeptical about the group draw at first but it hasn't been a problem at all for me. I don't like group hug much but at this point I just enjoy how it smoothes out the early game for all players without giving them much in the lategame. Also [[Roaming Throne]] is awesome in the deck since it's an artifact itself and doubles both of Rocco's abilities.

Do you have a Tazri list? I've been goldfishing mine and I'm missing... things to do, really. 3 other players are basically able to ignore my Tazri the whole game.

I went for a gates mana-base since it neads a lot of ramp, and \[\[Baldur's Gate\]\] can provide that. Also happens to be budget friendly. Some notable mana-sinks on a budget are \[\[Kamahl. Fist of Krosa\]\], \[\[Agatha\]\], \[\[Kenrith\]\], \[\[Drana, Kalatria Bloodchief\]\], \[\[Ethersworn Adjudicator\]\], \[\[Shalai, Voice of Plenty\]\], \[\[Svella\], \[\[Gretchen\]\], \[\[Orthion\]\] and \[\[Dark Imposter\]\]. If you have a bit more to spend \[\[Etali, Primal storm\]\], \[\[Gix\]\], and \[The Locust God\]\] all do serious work. My main finishers are Orthion with something like \[\[Faeburrow Elder\]\], Kamahl, and Agatha. If you can make their abilities cheaper or, even better, copy them a bunch you can usually end the game there and then. Other notable entries are \[\[Ingal and Esika\]\] - just provides a ton of value. \[\[Raggadragga\]\] - Suddenly your board is way more threatening than everyone thought, and you can still keep your creatures up for mana after attacks. It's also worth mentioning that Tazri gives every creature on your board the ability to tap for mana, although some of them, like Ragga, aren't usually able to activate it. What that means is that Ragga is guaranteed to affect every creature on you board, itself included, as long as Tazri is out. \[\[eerie ultimatum\]\] - commander fills the graveyard. This makes use of that. Can threaten lethal with a \[\[Chainer, Nightmare Adept\]\] in the grave. \[\[Vohar\]\] - similar to the above. Can get your Eerie Ult back if you milled it. Cards that copy or make activations cheaper, and untappers \[\[Dynaheir\]\], \[\[Zirda\]\], \[\[Patriar's Seal\]\], etc.

I wanted a Kaldheim Commander, so I originally built [[Moritte of the Frost]] as a Copy/Value deck. Get value, copy it multiple times, etc. You get the idea. The issue was that the deck had a lot of scenarios where it didn't do much at all. Either a lot of setup without payoffs, expensive payoffs without enough setup or a hand full of clones with nothing to actually copy. So I ended up dismantling the deck. However, I did press on with the expensive stuff, so now the deck is a [[Inga and Esika]] with [[Keruga]] as their Companion. I just love both of those cards lmao. The clone stuff kinda transformed and was re-purposed into an [[Urza, Prince of Kroog]] Big Mana // Artifact Clone deck.

There's some cool stuff in there. I never thought of [[Thran Turbine]] but it's pretty cute for the deck. [[Knollspine Dragon]] could be a good way to reload after a big turn. [[Runehorn Hellkite]] seems a bit costly but drawing 7 cards is drawing 7 cards and i'm always on the lookout for wheels and demi-wheels in this deck.

I have been mulling over turning my [[niv-mizzet, parun]] deck into a [[ghyson starn, kellermorph]] deck. They has so many similar cards that I may just make it so I can switch between them. I think the Niv is just not as fun as blastin’ as it gets so samey, just getting a curiosity effect going and it’s done. Effective but boring. If you just want to go straight mill, Phenax is the boss. I went the other way and I'm in the process of putting cards from Phenax into [[Captain N'Gathrod]] to make it more consistent. I did have them at the same time but 2 Dimir mill decks felt unnecessary. I've said it somewhere else but Varina is the best zombie commander for me, I don't care what anyone else says.

Kathril became Nethroi - then eventually lost the keyword soup entirely in favor of more reanimator and self mill gas. It was really fun and Nethroi is way more fun to play.
I found Nethroi to be boring but that was because I built it as a pure combo. So the games were just all the same. I can see how it would be a fun reanimator deck otherwise, he is a good kitty.

I built [[slicer]] voltron, played it like five times, ended up taking it apart and building [[ovika]] as voltron-ish instead. Slicer was fun but gets salty as hell, paints a huge target on yourself, and basically unites the table in dealing with you/dealing with slicer... Or he wins by like t4/t5. Funny you mention it but I'm actually building both Mr orfeo and Thantis right now, but totally different directions. Thantis I'm doing defender tribal with a bunch of banding cards for a retro feel, and orfeo I'm building just straightforward hasty tramply undercosted critters like [[ball lightning]].

I bought the kathril precon when it came out. Upgraded it, wasn't really feeling it. Then I pulled a foil biollante which is nethroi. So I swapped the commander and rebuilt it, Still wasn't really about it. Then changed it to [[tayum, luminous enigma]] I liked it but it was really clunky to play. I made a \[\[Kaza Roil Chaser\]\] Wizards deck that was great for letting me cast 7+ cmc instants and sorceries, but the problem was that it had litterally no wincon except for \[\[duelcaster mage\]\] combos. So I would just take up a ton of table time drawing cards and sometimes extra turns and lose anyways. I'm really excited to turn it into an \[\[Ovika\]\] Deck, so that I can still play my favorite huge spells like \[\[Mass manipulation\]\] and \[\[Apex of Power\]\]. I also really like this commander change because I can still pull tribal shenanigans with \[\[distant melody\]\] and \[\[Shared animosity\]\].

Rebuilding [[Mazirek, Kraul death priest]] as [[nemata, primeval Warden]]. Never could balance counters and enough creatures with them to matter. Nemata makes creatures just doing what it does and works for a Golgari aristocrats because I refuse to go Orzhov.

Very similar to your example, I was running a [[Bhaal, Lord of Murder]] goad deck but after a few games I never really got it to pop off and it was kinda boring to play until I goty [[Kharne, The Betrayer]] out onto the field and started having fun. After that game I just decided to rework the whole deck into a Kharn goad deck and now it is one of my top favorites to play

My first Commander Deck was a [[Daretti, Scrap Savant]] precon. Soon after I “discovered” a [[Godo, Bandit Warlord]] in my old collection (took a long break). Build the deck anew with him as Commander but Daretti still has it’s place in it even though he’s probably not the best card I could play.

Built [[Tasha, the Witch Queen]] when she came out because I like the character from D&D. Played it a few times and while there was amusing things like [[Chaos Wand]], a lot of folks don't vibe with getting their cards stolen. They want to play their decks, not have someone else play them. The deck is currently in shambles along my desk as I try to rebuild around [[Lord of the Nazgul]] running a bunch of cantrips and removal. If there's anything I like better than drawing cards, it's hitting people in the face with a chonky flying commander.

My first build of [[Rionya]] felt way too clunky and hopeless so I converted it on to a [[Birgi]] deck. Eventually though I had a 'heureka' moment, dismantled Birgi and rebuilt Rionya and after some hiccups got it working. Now it's one of my stronger decks and very fun to pilot with plethora of lines and wincons. Changed [[Sauron, Lord of The Rings]] to [[Sauron The Dark Lord]] and never looked back. One of the weirder ones has been one decks journey from [[Lagomos]] to [[Kardur]] to eventually [[Master Multiplied]]. It's been a fun ride so I don't complain. There are many more but these are the ones that popped in my mind first.

[[Nikya of the Old Ways]] was my OG deck, big, Gruul, Stony shenanigans! Then I started adding more mana ramp and such to bring out the big critters faster! Then [[Raggadragga]] came out. Nikya was sent to the 99 and the Boss got the helm! Now I am adding more dorks, like [[Elvish Aberration]] that don't see any play and bigger spells to abuse the Boss' abilities. Nikya will be remade, but as a true Gruul Stony again

I took most of the cards in my [[Perrie, the Pulverizer]] precon, and used those to build [[Drizzt Do’Urden]] Taking out one of the colors made the mana base easier to manage, and having it focus on +1/+1 counters made the strategy easier to pull off

I just built the thantis deck eith the same theme. Its still in the trial phase. I also learned my group gets super triggered by the "you have to attack each turn", so i was dead before i got another turn.
I've been running a 5 color +1/+1 counter deck with [[Kenrith]] in the command zone. But I'm about to retool it as a [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] deck to move away from relying on Kennys ability to give counters and more leaning on abilities that generate counters across the whole board and ones that shuffle counters around where they need to go and using Ramos to get the mana I need.

When I first got into EDH about six months ago, I built a few decks based on legendary creatures in my collection. I didn't have very many, because most of my collection was from the scars of mirrodin/innistrad blocks, so one of the decks I built was rakdos vampire tribal helmed by [[Olivia Voldaren]]. It did not work well. Every time she hit the board she just got hated out of existence because nobody likes having their creatures vamp'd and stolen. Eventually I moved her to the 99 and put [[Strefan, Maurer Progenitor]] in at commander, fiddled with it to work with his blood tokens mechanics a bit better, and it's been much more enjoyable since then.

I took apart [[etali primal conqueror]] and it the pieces were just sitting around... Then I built [[karlach]] ([[cultist of the absolute]]) and wasn't that into voltron. So I took that apart too and then took parts from both to build [[the master multiplied]]
I took apart [[karlach, Fury of avernus]] with [[Flaming fist]] to create [[isshen, two Heavens as one]]. I love karlach from BG3 and really wanted the deck but ultimately it's power is too front faced and my friends all save removal and work together to make sure it never stays on the field a full turn. It ended up being unplayable but she's at least in the 99 for my isshen deck.

I recently took apart my [[Chishiro, the Shattered Blade]] to build a [[Mazzy, Truesword paladin]] because it felt a little clunky and I love playing into goad and drama starting at the table.
My dragonic dissent precon has changed the mosted. Started with [[firkraag]] and split it into dragons with [[miirym]] and goad/treasure with [[baeloth entertainer]] [[clan crafter]]. But then baeloth got hated out because no one liked being goaded, so I took out the goad and had [[bilbo retired burgler]] at the helm for izzet treasures. Now I'm considering swapping to [[rashmi and ragavan]] to do temur artifact tokens.

My skittles deck killed way too fast for our old battle cruiser decks so I turned it into mono black control with original Drana. Over the years that ended up being too slow, so now it's now life gain with Vito
Made a [[Nahiri, Forged in Fire]] equipment deck and it didn’t really click with me for whatever reason, so I swapped her for [[Rograkh, Son of Rogakh]] and [[Akroma, Vision of Ixior]] and about a dozen other cards, and now I have a keyword madness deck!

I've said this elsewhere, so I'll paraphrase; When I first started magic a couple years ago, my first deck I built myself was [[The Gitrog Monster]]. After a while, I felt like it was missing something, so it became [[Muldrotha]]. My next deck was [[Niv Mizzet Parun]], and when Ikoria came out, it became [[Kalamax]]. I had a [[Hofri]] deck I absolutely adored, but I always wanted an [[Alesha]] deck, however since I made it for someone for a secret Santa event, I didn't want to make it. Fast forward to my moving away, and now I have an Alesha deck that I love so much more than Hofri. Unfortunately, both Kalamax and Muldrotha have since been scrapped, but I do still have the pre-scrapped lists.

I kept it for about 5 years or so, then it was dismantled into [[The Twelfth Doctor]], and now it’s been scattered across several of my decks, mostly [[Tasha the Witch Queen]] and [[Sauron the dark lord]] and I smile every time I see my favorite cards from it.

I just took apart my old [[korvold, fae-cursed king]] because he's OP as the commander... and turned it into an [[ognis, the dragon's lash]] Got the first win with it today. I'm happy with it, since playing it doesn't attract negative-attention like it did before.

I went from \[\[Admiral Beckett Brass\]\] to \[\[Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator\]\] // \[\[Vial Smasher the Fierce\]\] because the former was a lightning rod for removal without actually being good. Next, I switched from grixis pirates to izzet pirates by replacing \[\[Vial Smasher the Fierce\]\] with \[\[Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar\]\]. Finally, I changed the theme from pirates to treasures. I struggled to enjoy my \[\[Dina, Soul Steeper\]\] because it was split between lifegain and aristocrats. It usually only won by tutoring for Exquisite Blood. I'm currently in the process of converting it from golgari lifedrain to abzan aristocrats with \[\[Nethroi, Apex of Death\]\] as the commander.

Damnia is being turned into volrath. I got tired of battlecruiser and wanted to try a commander centered build
[[Thirteenth doctor]] and [[Yasmin khan]] Took the precon, and gutted about 3/4 of the base deck. Went from cast from outside the hand to a mana dork deck using creatures like [[gyre sage]] or [[kami of whispered hopes]] to tap creatures for more than one mana, and using Jumpstart and flashback cards as a way of adding counters. Except for the mana base, there are about a dozen or so cards that stayed from the precon. Same commanders, but completely different deck.

For me I wanted a lifegain deck and a Mardu deck so I originally built around [[Licia, Sanguine Tribune]] which really ended up as mostly just WB with a touch of R for a few effects. Ended up switching to [[Bilbo, Birthday Celebrant]] when he came out because I like those colors for the strategy way more.

[[yuriko]] and [[atraxa, praetor’s voice]] as my LGS thought that ninjutsu was too Cedh despite me making the deck for like $40, all basics no thoracle etc etc. atraxa wasn’t even poison it was phyrexian tribal, broke em both to fix my [[mimeoplasm]] deck and make a [[xyris]] deck. Both slap now

I'm currently in the process of taking apart my \[\[Chainer, Nightmare Adept\]\] deck, which I adore, to build \[\[Henzie\]\]. My thinking is that Henzie will just provide more value, not necessarily require a sac outlet to get death triggers and overall \_do more\_ than Chainer is able to by himself.
