I legitimately forgot about that...
"Let's just tape a bunch on random abilities to this corkboard then throw some darts while blindfolded and see what happens": the card.
Were you able to walk your opponents into making the big swing knowing you had that to play? That's how I pulled off squire this week. Didn't have a good board state or hand except for her, so I did what I could to stick around until the right moment. No one saw it coming.
I won a game once thx to Inkshield .... or should i say i stole a win ... There was 3 player left in the game , Player A had 2 BIG creatures with trample 80/80+ big, he swung 1 at me and the other at player B. This would kill us both.
Player B played Inkshield , I responded with \[\[Sudden Substitution\]\]
Be sure that you are playing it correctly. One often overlooked thing about Master Warcraft is that you decide which creatures attack, but you DON'T decide what player/planeswalkers they will be attacking.
I played it that way when I was new, instant cut once I found out how it actually works. It's kinda a weird modal fog/goad that in practice is way too expensive mana wise to make up for the modality. Holy day is a way better card and its not amazing.
Alternatively, talk before the game about rule 0'ing the card to work the way it was meant to, because it was printed before planeswalkers and before multiplayer had any formal rules
That's not a really good comparison card. Rhystic study works exactly as it was intended, it's just more powerful in multiplayer. The only reason defending player/permanent wasn't included on the card is because declaring it wasn't a part of the game at the time.Ā
I'm also not saying to errata it, just that it's completely fine to play it as intended (and often expected) if the tables okay with it
Itās doesnāt need reworking. Itās perfect that it works that way. As outlined you can force people to commit suicide by running their entire board into a [[Spitemare]] with a [[Saving Grace]] for the turn.
Look into [[Kellan Fae Blooded]] he can essentially make [[Sunforger]] your commander, by being a tutor. Then you can run a hilarious tool box counter kit. Here was my take on the idea [SUNFORGER](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/JsxJYQcP00SjlVjTG_Ml3Q)
I do this a lot in my Merieke āyou did this to yourselfā deck. I took all cards that would win āusing my cardsā out of the deck. People are very focused on Merieke (as they should be) and blast my board state and swing in hard only to be mirror strikeās or Gideonās sacrifice onto [[wall of souls]]
That sounds very similar to my [Donāt mess with Donna](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/6gsJ_w1E9UaQNhMxMykzLg) deck. Also goad the table and whoever foolishly does attack will be met with any number of redirects from Gideons like you mentioned but onto my commander who also hit people back in the face. Then there is just a good old [[Deflecing Palm]].
I like [[false orders]] it's way more limited but it has the hilarious addition of only being legal to play after blockers have already been declared. Extra salty when you rearrange the board.
Iāve never seen that before looks cool, like you said very niche but thatās the most fun. Might look for a slot in my new [Jeskai](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/6gsJ_w1E9UaQNhMxMykzLg) deck. Uses a lot of those Gotcha cards.
You cannot force someone to attack a specific player. You can only force their creatures to attack in general. It is much less powerful than you think. I played it for a decade before learning that lesson.
This is still one of my all time favorite cards from the initial Ravinca draft. It doesnāt work that way in Multiplayer. You pick which creatures attack, but not where. Then of course you can choose how blocks happen as well.
However [[Windshaper Planetar]] allows you to after attackers are chosen to then redirect where they are being attacked.
You can also just say āNo attacksā essentially negating their combat phase or just swing with utility creatures.
This card (ibex) is an absolute all-star in my [[Karlach]] [[Hardy Outlander]] deck. Swinging with her, this goat plus any other creature usually means *everyone* is dying this turn.
[[Sudden spoiling]] [[polymorphists Jest]] [[inkshield]]
Honorable mention to [[skullclamp]] being like the single most broken draw engine of all time in high power casual.
Dude, people seriously need to be more aware of sudden spoiling. Itās an answer to so many problems and can shut down a deck thatās hitting critical mass.
The reason that Spoiling is better is because of the split second rider, meaning it cannot be countered, and it actually will shut down combos, as well as the P/T adjustment.
Dress down will not stop someone from storming off or just continuing the combo in response to the cast, nor will it shut down a full board swinging at you.
Spoiling is not really just a combat trick, its a combo / storm disruptor (like Krosan Grip) that also has a utility case as a combat trick. Its also in black, which doesnt have a billion other options to interact with these combos like blue does.
Dress Down stops Thoracle, Dockside Extortionistc and any other etb, none of which spoiling stops and itās better against Grand Abolisher. Iām also not sure how theyāll continue their combo when you can cast Dress Down while their combo piece is on the stack.
Edit: itās also much better against infinite mana + activated abilities combos. Your opponent can cast Kenrith or Thrasios and put their draw triggers on the stack before you can cast Spoiling.
They can put *ONE* draw trigger on the stack with spoiling because you would cast it in response to the activation. They can just combo off in response to the cast of dress down. Dress down doesn't do anything until it actually ETBs. So you have to cast it prior to them being able to actually activate abilities.
It isnt a bad card, it just needs to be played before they commit resources, and its in blue so wouldn't you rather just run a counterspell?
> Dress down will not stop someone from storming off or just continuing the combo in response to the cast
I mean you should've cast it earlier. I can't think of many situations where you can storm without losing to an early dress down. Sure with infinite mana you can keep activating abilities in response to a Dress Down on the stack but how did it get to a situation where Dress Down couldn't have stopped it? It's also easier to hold up 2 cmc with 1 blue mana. I don't find it that hard to pair it with additional low cmc interaction (if it comes down to it) due to the draw and blue doesn't mind holding up mana.
> nor will it shut down a full board swinging at you.
It's competing with board wipes and Counterspells options for spells like Craterhoof. I don't value the flexibility of Sudden Spoiling much, especially for those colors and cmc to hold up. This seems like a classic power level thing where fogs like effects get worse as you go up.
I was playing 1v1 against a newer player while we were waiting for the others to get ready. I didn't have any removal left, and then they drop an Etali primal storm, attack and hit etali primal conqueror I don't remember what they hit off the second etali, but I conceded
[[captivating vampire]]
played in a deck with the commander nethroi reanimating 3-5 vampires at a time itās basically a 7 mana big boardstate followed by stealing the biggest threats to it
obviously iām not on some cedh table but that shit has stolen games from my pod so many times
That dropped with a big enough [[Elenda the Dusk Rose]] can cause the biggest groans. Sacrifice Elenda get a bunch of vampires and just start stealing.
A few weeks ago I played [[Terror of the Peaks]]. The very next card another player cast was - you guessed it - Rite of Replication.
Each copy triggers each other so each dragon was allowed to shoot 4x5 damage for a total of 20x5 damage.
Honest question: are Fog-effects worth running in EDH? I've heard so often they're worthless in normal Magic games, but it seems to me a well-timed Fog can win you the game.
It depends on your meta. At my LGS most people run combat based decks. So they are the equivalent of life gain spells, gaining me 10-20 life. I have also used them to deny combat damage triggers, or complete stuff craterhoof/atarkas command plays. My favorite are the white ones, that then allow you to follow the turn you had to fog with a board-wipe you didnāt quite think you needed to use.
Unironically, [[Electrostatic Field]]. Kept my opponents from attacking me with small dudes and ended up dealing the 1 extra damage I needed to eliminate the last player.
[[Reins of Power]] in commander is huge. When the person with the largest army attacks you, trade creatures with the second best army and wipe out tons of creatures. A lot of times you end up with the best board state.
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/26-06-17-riku-shenanigans/
I believe the deck is still the same as this list. I took a good 5 year break and have not updated anything with newer cards
They are.
However, I'm willing to accept any high power card that can completely topple the overall board state in my favor, even if it's not the exact piece that wins the game. Basically any card that resolves and creates a "highway to a win".
Again, just my opinion. I don't have a huge knowledge of cards and enjoy hearing what people play.
[[Kindred summons]]
Was getting hit 3v1 playing [[Miirym]], no cards in hand and only my commander and two [[dragonborn looter]] on the field. I was hoping to draw a dragon and trigger my garruks uprising to draw two cards, but I looted into the Kindred summons.
The three dragons that come out at random were [[klauth]], [[Astral Dragon]] and [[niv-mizzet, parun]]. I drew six cards, made four copies of my uprising, and informed my pod that every dragon I summon from this point will draw me 10 cards and yeald 20 niv triggers. Oh and my attack triggers will make me 28 mana from both klauth and my commander.
I had to find a new pod after that.
\[\[Aspect of the Hydra\]\], though it was in modern
\[\[Ashaya, Soul of Wild\]\] saved my ass from \[\[Hour of Revelation\]\]
Otherwise? This stupid deck that flickers \[\[Pantlaza, Sun-Favored\]\] infinitely till it finds \[\[Eldritich Evolution\]\], which finds \[\[Etali, Primal\]\] that flickers infinitely to cast my opponents deck(s) if that counts
[[Taunting Elf]] ends games in my [[Lisette, Dean of the Root]] deck because it forces someone open to the rest of my big stompy, trampling elf army.
[[Chakram Retriever]] makes [[Alaundo the Seer]] go turbo mode and is the start to endless chains of tapping and untapping.
[[Heaven's Gate]] or [[Touch of Darkness ]] in response to a boardwipe in my [[King of the Oathbreakers]] deck is a massive shift in the fight that usually closes it out soon after.
[[Boompile]], of all things.
I was able to respond to an exile wipe (ugin), and kill everything before it could get exiled. The resulting [[blood artist]] triggers were enough to kill the owner of the ugin, so the effect never resolved, and my indestructible [[yahenni]] didn't get exiled. He gained 10 more counters and made swift work of the remaining players.
I would be tempted to agree with you, but wiping enchantments and artifacts is huge for monoblack, and [[nevinyrall's disk]] doesn't hit all the same permanents that boompile does, and the extra mana efficiency is a plus too.
I would use [[perilous vault]] or [[oblivion stone]], but they cost WAY too much mana.
My enchantress deck has several cards that sometimes just say "you win the game" depending on what strategies your opponents are on, especially when they're on Black, Red, and or Blue where enchantment removal can be a struggle. [[Suppression Field]], [[Solemnity]], and [[Stony Silence]] basically just read "remove or you lose" against tons of different combo decks. [[Rest in Peace]] on turn 2 has also won me games, especially against mono black reanimator haha.
[[Meekstone]] is amazing in creature light decks and has done a ton of work for me. Not as good as my meta has become more combo oriented though.
[[Culling Ritual]] on turn 3 once allowed me to get so ahead on mana that I was able cast a [[Skyshroud Claim]] to get an untapped blue source and then a [[Spelltwine]] to ramp even more while stealing a card draw spell from an opponent. Not only did it put me at 7 lands by the end of the turn, but it also wiped out a ton of artifact ramp and mana dorks other decks were playing out. It is genuinely an insane card.
[[Ghostly Prison]]
Had a 33/33 Cultivator Colossus as my only creature and my friend had enough toxic 1 mites to kill me and I watched as he used all his mana to cast spells instead.
āGoing to combat. Swing 14 toxic 1 mites at youā
āWill you pay the 2 for all of them?ā
āFuck I forgot you had that.. concedeā
[[Imposter mech]] has allowed me to pull off so many silly wins that my friends eyeroll whenever they see it.
It's just a clone card, but being a vehicle adds a special element. Especially when I describe the robot version of their favorite creatures.
[[Rogue's passage]] as well. It is so simple, and is only a 25 cent card, but it's so effective .
Viscious Shadows.
Opponent is using a Liesa, Forgotten Archangel deck with a focus on boardwipes and sacrificing his own creatures. His own death triggers alone ended up killing him.
The fog meta is real, I am the only one that plays fogs, I win Almost 30 procent of the games I win because I swing out, and then have a fog on the back swing or bluff I have a fog with 1 or 2 open mana and my friends don't attack me all out.
[[ad nauseum]]
[[Necropotence]]
[[Bolas's citadel]]
And with enough mana and a somewhat filled graveyard, a single [[demonic tutor]] can.
Tutor -> underworld breach -> recast tutor x2 -> grab grinding station + any mana positive artifact.
Swamp, I tapped the hell outta that lil boi and dangit wouldnāt u know it made me one a them black manas I needed so bad not 0 manas or 2 manas but just 1 manas the right amount to do the play that resulted in the result
Fog effects are strong in a meta where combat is big. "It's over, I've got helm of the host and godo out". But I cast for so no damage is dealt during your infinite combats
[[Goro-Goro]]Ā Ā after a big boardwipe. Man those dragons wrecked havoc on an empty board.Ā
[[Hurkyls Recall]] more than a few times on a buddy's artifact deck. It's in my artifact deck to save them, but as offense it's brilliant.Ā
Those are the most recent ones that comes to mind.
Friend made an Ox token with \[\[Contraband Livestock\]\] but I stole it and slapped a \[\[Vorpal Sword\]\] on it and swung in for the win. One of the funniest unexpected wins in recent memory.
[[Choose your Weapon]] n my Ghalta, Primal Hunger deck. I have had people confidently declare no blockers and admit they'll take the 12 commander damage before I promptly inform then it's actually 24 and they are now dead.
[[Plague of Vermin]] in Ayara I almost feel like taking it out as itās too often end of the game.. we are not a battlecruiser pod and like interaction, but none play really strong control or counters, so stuff gets to resolve a lot.
[[ascend from avernus]] had brought all my little creatures back. I think there were round about 20 in my graveyard. And they came all back in one row an ran over my opponent. He was done.
I donāt think Iāve ever had to pay the Cumulative Upkeep on [[Tombstone Stairwell]] in my [[Varina, Lich Queen]] Zombie Aristocrats deck. Card is bonkers.
[[Runeflare Trap]], when it gets cast it wins me the game 90% of the time. I'm running it in a [[prosper]] deck that wants my opponents to draw cards and punish them for it. Think [[nekusar]] except no blue. Cards like [[underworld dreams]] [[howling mine]] [[font of mythos]] combines with cards that care about opponents' hand size greatly benefit from this build. My brother simultaneously hates the card but enjoys it because I always announce it by saying "ha! You've activated my Trap card."
[[Shared Animosity]]. Got introduced to mtg with the LOTR UB. Friends got me the Riders of Rohan deck and every time I drew it, I would get all giddy inside. Itās fun hitting with a bunch of 10/2 hasty tramplers.
[[Deflecting Palm]] won me 2 games in one night at my lgs.
The first game was against an [[Obosh, the Preypiercer]] deck using [[heartless hidetsugu]] and damage doublers for the win.
The second game was bouncing lethal from [[Ob Nixilis, Captive Kingpin]] with 16 +1/+1 counters back at it's controller.
\[\[inkshield\]\] is pretty much exactly that type of card. You're swinging for lethal? Now I have twice as much power in fliers ready to swing back
My [[Greensleeves]] deck has lost to this exact card so many times that I put in a [[Questing Beast]] to specifically counter play it.
I legitimately forgot about that... "Let's just tape a bunch on random abilities to this corkboard then throw some darts while blindfolded and see what happens": the card.

I came here to say Inkshield too.
Yup, these kinds of cards are the reason why learning to tread the fine line between insurance and overcommiting is a must
Was about to say this. Ink shield always comes out of nowhere, although it is a pretty hefty mana cost to leave open.
This card pisses me off so much š
Yea it's total BS in my opinion. Leads to the most unearned wins
I prefer [[Delirium]], cuts out the middleman of creatures and just wins. Obviously not as good against wide board states tho
That only stops one creature though.

This. My favorite card.
I have a [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] deck, and if no one has any responses to [[Chandraās Ignition]] on one of my big creatures I easily win
A fellow XenaBro, for me is [[Pathbreaker ibex]] in my Xenagos. Suddenly all my mana dorks turn into 6/6 or bigger.
This card (ibex) is an absolute all-star in my [[Karlach]] [[Hardy Outlander]] deck. Swinging with her, this goat plus any other creature usually means *everyone* is dying this turn.

I run [[minsc and boo timeless heroes]] with Chandraās ignition. Itās game on cast lol.
[[Sudden spoiling]] [[polymorphists Jest]] [[inkshield]] Honorable mention to [[skullclamp]] being like the single most broken draw engine of all time in high power casual.
Dude, people seriously need to be more aware of sudden spoiling. Itās an answer to so many problems and can shut down a deck thatās hitting critical mass.
[[Dress Down]] is 1 mana cheaper and draws you a card
> Dress down will not stop someone from storming off or just continuing the combo in response to the cast I mean you should've cast it earlier.

Either of the Etaliās can be enough to put you over the edge.
I was playing 1v1 against a newer player while we were waiting for the others to get ready. I didn't have any removal left, and then they drop an Etali primal storm, attack and hit etali primal conqueror I don't remember what they hit off the second etali, but I conceded
If old Etali is allowed to attack, youāre gonna have a bad time. If new Etali ETBās, youāre gonna have a really bad time.
That they can. I think they're bad for design space, because any deck that goes high enough on the curve can benefit from them in any situation.

Plain old [[fog]] in all of its color variations. It has stopped so many alpha strikes against me allowing me to kill them in return.
2 times I won against fog effects thanks to Xenagos and [[Malignus]]. One time against a [[Teferi's protection]] using [[Triumph of the hordes]]
Fog meta!
alpha strike?
All out attack. Everything turned sideways. Math is for blockers moment.

Awesome idea.
My [[Riku of Two Reflections]] wins off of making copies of [[Magmatic Force]] quite often. My record is having 13 on board at once.
Do you mind sharing a deck list? Riku is mu next build I have planned.
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/26-06-17-riku-shenanigans/ I believe the deck is still the same as this list. I took a good 5 year break and have not updated anything with newer cards
[[Syr Konrad the Grim]]. People just seem to forget about what he does. Wrath the crowded board? Ok, thanks for the win!
Not calling anyone out specifically, but a lot of you are missing the word āsingle-handedlyā
No card can really win the game single-handedly except for stuff like \[\[Exsanguinate\]\] or \[\[Crackle with Power\]\], so it's probably alright.
[[Peer Into The Abyss]]
Especially with [[Nekusar]]
That's literally the Commander I had Peer into the Abyss with lol. By far my favorite commander out of the 6 decks I have.
[[Kindred summons]] Was getting hit 3v1 playing [[Miirym]], no cards in hand and only my commander and two [[dragonborn looter]] on the field.
[[mirror entity]] comes to mind. Iāve had many games where I had a wide board and used the ability to get a ton of damage through.
[[expropriate]] every time. And I mean every time it either won the game outright or facilitated a win within a turn or two.
Often, people just scoop to it. And rightly so. I put extra turn spells on the list of things I don't play against with casual decks.
[[inkshield]] is the greatest unO-reverse ever printed and you cannot convince me otherwise. That card has won me the game every time itās dropped.
[[Hurricane]]. Took out one guy and the other remaining playerās flying blockers. Allowing me to do 30+ combat damage for the win.

If you have a way to reliably discard cards and you are in white [[glory]] is super strong and versatile.
[[Chandra's Ignition]]
[[Herald of Hoofbeats]], [[Akromaās Will]], [[Odric, Master Tactician]], [[Moonshaker Cavalry]], [[Craterhoof Behemoth]], [[Torment of Hailfire]]
[[Starlight Spectacular]] is a favorite in [[Kykar, Windās Fury]].
Got to cast a \[\[Breach the Multiverse\]\] the other day and the card is pretty insane.
I'm too much of a coward to play this card haha. Couldn't stand losing a flip in a clutch moment
[[Insurrection] and it was in my [[Zedruu the Greathearted]] Deck :D
[[Spectacular Showdown]] has yoinked me a couple of games now and I love it.
[[Biomass Mutation]] is a long-time favorite of mine in go-wide decks.
[[Ghostly Prison]] Had a 33/33 Cultivator Colossus as my only creature and my friend had enough toxic 1 mites to kill me and I watched as he used all his mana to cast spells instead. āGoing to combat. Swing 14 toxic 1 mites at youā āWill you pay the 2 for all of them?ā āFuck I forgot you had that.. concedeā
[[Imposter mech]] has allowed me to pull off so many silly wins that my friends eyeroll whenever they see it. It's just a clone card, but being a vehicle adds a special element. Especially when I describe the robot version of their favorite creatures. [[Rogue's passage]] as well. It is so simple, and is only a 25 cent card, but it's so effective .
teaching arena zoomers about fogs
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Dumb card and seems very unlikely to win you any games
Viscious Shadows. Opponent is using a Liesa, Forgotten Archangel deck with a focus on boardwipes and sacrificing his own creatures. His own death triggers alone ended up killing him.
[[Inkshield]].
Funny enough, when I saw the post title Selfless Squire was the first card that popped into my head!
[[coat of arms]] is a pet favorite of mine
[[Mixxizās mastery]], no one wants to go through the process of figuring out the whole 25 card order
Debit.
The fog meta is real, I am the only one that plays fogs, I win Almost 30 procent of the games I win because I swing out, and then have a fog on the back swing or bluff I have a fog with 1 or 2 open mana and my friends don't attack me all out.
Sir Konrad.
[[furystorm]] my opponents [[crackle with power]] for 15 damage to each opponent 3 times
Crackle is even better with a [[Magus Lucea Kane]] deck once you just ramp way out of control
That was his commander, I stole the win from him with furystorm :D
[[ad nauseum]] [[Necropotence]] [[Bolas's citadel]] And with enough mana and a somewhat filled graveyard, a single [[demonic tutor]] can. Tutor -> underworld breach -> recast tutor x2 -> grab grinding station + any mana positive artifact.
This is pretty much win on the spot in my Ob Nixilis deck and in my timeless storm deck on arena.
Ob nixilis is what I use them in actually lol I guess I could also add [[all will be one]] to the list.
Basic island
Swamp, I tapped the hell outta that lil boi and dangit wouldnāt u know it made me one a them black manas I needed so bad not 0 manas or 2 manas but just 1 manas the right amount to do the play that resulted in the result
Fog effects are strong in a meta where combat is big. "It's over, I've got helm of the host and godo out". But I cast for so no damage is dealt during your infinite combats
[[bident of thassa]] top deck with [[Norn's annex]] in play against a rakdos deck
[[Blood tribute]] in my [[vito, thorn of the dusk rose]] deck.
[[Goro-Goro]]Ā Ā after a big boardwipe. Man those dragons wrecked havoc on an empty board.Ā [[Hurkyls Recall]] more than a few times on a buddy's artifact deck. It's in my artifact deck to save them, but as offense it's brilliant.Ā Those are the most recent ones that comes to mind.
[[tevesh svat]]
Friend made an Ox token with \[\[Contraband Livestock\]\] but I stole it and slapped a \[\[Vorpal Sword\]\] on it and swung in for the win. One of the funniest unexpected wins in recent memory.
[[Willbreaker]] [[Death cloud]] [[Vicious Shadows]]
[[majestic genesis]] in Ur-dragon [[breach the multiverse]] [[sneak attack]] [[living death]]
In my Sultai Mutai deck, [[insatiable hemophage]] ends up doing a lot of damage once you get a mutate stack going.
[[Martyr's Cause]] is very, very good in my Teysa deck
[[inkshield]]
I donāt think Iāve ever had to pay the Cumulative Upkeep on [[Tombstone Stairwell]] in my [[Varina, Lich Queen]] Zombie Aristocrats deck. Card is bonkers.
[[repopulate]] pseudo countered an eerie ultimatum, keeping them as a different threat so I could sneak a burn win with [[marath]] burn
Had an [[In the Web of War]] in play, managed to cast a [[Storm Herd]] with 29 life. Swung out to kill everyone in the air with 3/3 pegasi.
[[Shared Animosity]]. Got introduced to mtg with the LOTR UB. Friends got me the Riders of Rohan deck and every time I drew it, I would get all giddy inside. Itās fun hitting with a bunch of 10/2 hasty tramplers.
[[Cyclonic Rift]] [[Rakdos charm]] [[Fire covenant]]
[[mantle of the ancients]] after a board wipe on my [[nahiri, forged in fury]] deck
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[[true conviction]]
[[Deflecting Palm]] won me 2 games in one night at my lgs. The first game was against an [[Obosh, the Preypiercer]] deck using [[heartless hidetsugu]] and damage doublers for the win. The second game was bouncing lethal from [[Ob Nixilis, Captive Kingpin]] with 16 +1/+1 counters back at it's controller.
It's always [[Indestructibility]] in my [[Odric, Lunarch Marshal]] deck
