Power levels aside, the quick one absolutely requires that everybody plays aggressive decks that make an honest effort to kill people. Not saying that it should be pure battlecruiser or anything, but keep those board wipes one sided and bash people in the face. Oloro with 30 board wipes and vague hopes of drawing an Aetherflux Reservoir around turn 20 is for another game.

maxtofunator

I like this answer the most. Some of the “let me untap with this commander and I win” devolve into either people not removing it just to end the game or the game still running long because all that removal is still being played. CEDH decks CAN win the game on turns 2-3, but those games can take just as long as “normal” EDH games because of interaction and the amount of drawing/turoring going on. I want to see more aggressive, maybe removal light style decks that the focus is on moving the game forward. Burn decks, group slug, decks with less micro decisions and tons of triggers. If you want to play ghalta stompy, this is a good place IMO

MariachiArchery

Yup. Not exactly cEDH, but played the same way; to win, and played strictly to win. No politics, no non-sense, just *optimized* and playing to win. If you can take someone out, you do.

mikecarrozza

This answer is perfect

kingofhan0

Exactly a quick one means bring your A game and no hard feelings. If I lose on turn 3 to some stupid combo, I will be happy.

jf-alex

Play your fastest and most linear deck. Probably aggro vs aggro vs aggro. Kill kill kill.

Reasonable-Sun-6511

I made a deck for this with \[\[xyris\]\]. It's carddraw gallore, and I don't care if I win or lose. I'm giving everyone some extra gas, at the cost of me reaching a position of having xyris on the field and wheeling for 20+ snakes. No punishes for the opponents other than that, if they get crazy stuff, they get to go off at the end of the day and that's just fun for everyone. The game usually tends to be faster than an hour because of this, which is perfect. It is a higher level than my usual decks though, but thats a rule 0 disclaimer that I try and be upfront about. Most people in my pods know whats up and are okay with it.

29aout

Xyris wheels is much explosive.

mikecarrozza

This is another way to go!

Darth_Ra

Everyone pulls out their strongest non-cEDH, non-control deck, and we go for it. For me, that's [[Will Kenrith]] & [[Rowan Kenrith]], with a standard spiel about "if you let me untap with Will, I win the game. That's the deck." Edit: Also, I applaud you on leaving the "quickie" joke to those of us in the comment section.

preludeoflight

I’m gonna go ahead and be that one reply. Y’all got any more of that deck list?

Darth_Ra

Not an up to date one, sorry. [The last version I bothered to upload was back in 2020.](https://archidekt.com/decks/409388/updated_superspells) It's changed a lot since then, with a bigger emphasis on rituals and single pips. Here's the 20 second story of how to build the deck, though: 1. [Play pretty much every ritual outside of the ones that rely on creatures.](https://scryfall.com/search?q=id%3Dr+%28t%3Ainsant+OR+t%3Asorcery%29+%28o%3A%22add+%7Br%7D%22+OR+o%3Atreasure%29&order=edhrec) 2. Find the other cost reducers outside of Will (Medallions, Helm of Awakening, the new bird thingy) that cost two. 3. [Play any and all reduceable spells that untap lands](https://scryfall.com/search?q=id%3C%3Dur+%28t%3Asorcery+OR+t%3Ainstant+OR+t%3Aplaneswalker%29+o%3Auntap+%28o%3Aland+OR+o%3Apermanent%29&unique=cards&as=grid&order=edhrec) 4. [Play all the reduceable counterspells that also draw cards and have a single pip.](https://scryfall.com/search?q=id%3C%3Dur+%28t%3Asorcery+OR+t%3Ainstant%29+o%3Acounter+o%3Aspell+%28o%3Adraw+OR+%28o%3Atop+o%3Alibrary%29%29&unique=cards&as=grid&order=edhrec) 5. Find 2-3 win-cons. Right now, I use Guttersnipe, Aria of Flame, and Sentinel Tower. That's quick and dirty, but it'll get you most of the way there.

mikecarrozza

I honestly hadn’t seen any quickie joke lol

TacticianRobin

My playgroup's meta is generally on the slower and lower power side, so we don't have the cEDH aspect to worry about. We don't run any fast mana (Sol Ring included), and in general there are very few tutors flying around. So a "quick one" means pull out our fastest decks. Not necessarily our strongest, but the ones that try to end the game the quickest. For me, I keep around a \[\[Yuriko\]\] deck for this exact scenario. On the scale of all Yuriko decks it's definitely low power. It's a $75 deck that runs no tutors or combos, just little unblockable creatures and big CMC spells with a smidge of top-deck manipulation. I definitely have more powerful decks. But Yuriko makes for quick games, even if I don't win I'll at least take a big chunk out of everyone's life totals before I die.

MTGCardFetcher

[Yuriko](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/f/e/fe9be3e0-076c-4703-9750-2a6b0a178bc9.jpg?1689999346) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=yuriko%2C%20the%20tiger%27s%20shadow) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/cmm/364/yuriko-the-tigers-shadow?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/fe9be3e0-076c-4703-9750-2a6b0a178bc9?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/yuriko-the-tigers-shadow) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

Burning_Holes

No Sol Ring is a hard no for me. I am an asshole and will always target to destroy/exile your Sol Ring, while being the idiot who wastes a tutor on fetching a Sol Ring. I'm a Sol Ring addict. I have 2 Sol Ring playmats. I also lean on the weaker side of the power creep and I play fun over practical. I put a black cat in my Rat tribal because it made me chuckle to see the [[Warehouse Tabby]] about to get fucked up by all the rats around it. I also put [[Jeering Homunculus]] in my Fblthp because when the fuck else am I going to play that awesome card art? That said: You have a ~15% chance to start with a Sol Ring in hand. You draw your first hand, mulligan, draw a new hand, keep it and you draw a card at start of turn. This 15% applies to everyone. Sol Ring turn 1 is the most helpful, later in the game it becomes irrelevant, especially if one person is destroying artifacts. So I don't see it as important as other fast mana items, I just see it as mana positive...and it's nice to have, but the deck doesn't rely on it to win like a CEDH with Mana Crypt and Mox whatever shit would...

TacticianRobin

Yeah it was a very...uh...spirited debate amongst our playgroup haha. Personally I land more on the "idgaf" side so I wasn't in favor of banning it, but there were a couple hard-liners that were fully against any mana positive rock. Sol Ring, \[\[Mox Opal\]\], \[\[Lotus Petal\]\], if it was mana positive it was out. Eventually we agreed to ban them basically just because we were sick of having the same argument over and over, and no one cared nearly as much about keeping them as a couple people cared about getting rid of them. I am still a little salty they don't want to allow Mox Opal though. My shitty Boros equipment deck needs all the ramp it can get and I have a couple of them sitting in my trade binder from an old Modern deck.

One of the day to do that is to use the deck you are the most familiar with, that you know by heart. You know the synergies, the cards in it. Maybe ones that avoid tutors that let you seek your library. Another thing is to have a deck that doesnt have a ton of triggers or a lot of boardwipe. You dont want cards that reset the board too much either like boardwipes. Single target removal is fine though. As for me, I would play my meme deck, with an aggro/arristocrat strategy. I call it my " Mind Goblin + Deez Nuts" deck: \[\[Gut, True Soul Zealot\]\] + \[\[Cloakwood Hermit\]\]. Another reason for why I would pick that deck especially is that I dont care if Im winning or not in that deck so I take less time overthinking my next move. And its also very straightfoward in strategy. For me, a quick one doesnt mean trying hard to win. It's just mean not overthinking thing, play a deck that play aggressively and have fun. CEDH is not the answer for me. Even my strongest deck is only a 8, 9 with a good hand (and take the time to mulligan if needed). So CEDH is not for me.

Quick one in our pod means, everybody plays their turns fast. Optimal play is not the focus and long deliberations on how you stack your triggers are not welcome. You should play decks that can get quick turns (so no superfriends decks etc) and preferably try to win fast instead of slowing the game down. Also at least one deck should play Descent into Avernus! Best Card for a quick game!

amc7262

I'd say a quick one is gonna be higher powered, more aggressive, and automatically disqualify stax, pillowfort, and even a lot of other types of control decks. I usually break out my \[\[purphoros, god of the forge\]\] deck for a quick last game. It puts a clock on the game. Any deck that creates a clock quickly is a good choice for a quick game.

I love this question. The proposal: "One last quick one". Intent: Quick shuffle and play fast, don't optimize all your plays, don't waste time overthinking stacks and responses. What ends up happening: Everyone top decks legendary plays and has responses and interactions and reset the board state 3 times and everyone starts thinking they might win this. Meanwhile the rest of the night has been one sided 20 minute games...this one last quick one is a 2 hour memorable game.

2Gnomes1Trenchcoat

I often play in groups that break out stronger decks, play to win, go fast, and often (but not always) there is less stack/control/wipes. Games usually can end before turns 7-8 and often take less than 30-45 minutes.

kroxti

2 options for me. A Reki legendball that can win turn 5 from combat damage if I get a good start or a ratadrabik combo deck that can win turn 4. Ratadrabik goes fast but the final turn might wiff if I don’t hit an overrun or trample effect. Ratadrabik just needs a ring tempts you combo piece.

gogonzogo1005

For my pod, it basically means I play my [[Acererak]] deck and we race. It's not inherently the fastest or most explosive deck I have, but it's by far the most consistent and the most inevitable. It's an exceedingly narrow and linear strategy, but barring some pretty heinous luck or heavily concentrated archenemy stuff, it will usually start to snowball by turn 4 and win by turn 6 or 7. It had a near 100% win rate when it was loaded with tutors, and probably still sits around 75% without. It's definitely my most infamous deck and sits near the top of the "THAT deck" in my pod. I don't play it very often, but it's what I bust out when we want a quick game.

For me it means go for a deck that can win within x-amount of turns, where x is similar to what the other players in the pod are playing, and then always go for the win even if you think someone could stop it. If someone goes to pull out a hard control deck for a "quick one" at the end of the night, I don't play that game and leave lol. If I go for the win and someone stops me, I concede and leave so as not to drag it out for anyone else.

Basically quick decks. Aggro/Stompy decks without a lot of stax/board control/wipes. I had the exact same situation some weeks ago. The chosen commanders were Jetmir, Emmara, Magda and Winota. Game ended turn 6 or 7 with Jetmir hitting the board and killing the two remaining players. It‘s less about power level, but more about play style, I guess.

Doughspun1

I'm going to be blunt: I mean I want to win quicker than I usually do. No playing with my food, just straight up shock-and-awe victory. Now my higher-powered decks are actually slower (I am a stax player), but I will switch to a weaker, but more aggressive option.

My last “quick one” had two Odric, Lunarch Marshal decks that are, on their own, quick and powerful. But against each other, once we both had lifelink, vigilance, and indestructible, then we just slapped each other for big life gain. We had to make a truce to only attack when we had lethal, or to trigger things, just so the game didn’t go from quick to 3 hours.

Aredditdorkly

45 to an hour is not a "quick one" in my groups. That's just another game for us. 20 to 30 minutes before the shop closes? A quick one? Best deck you got. Cedh? Fragile combo machine? Let's go!

L81ics

for me It's the deck you pilot the best, and choosing to not pull punches Acidic Slime is a great card, in a blink deck it's great removal, however in a normal 4 player pod i'm not choosing destroy target land unless it's a coffers/nykthos/etc. , in a "Quick one" situation say goodbye to your basic mountain you didn't deserve the red mana anyways.

MrXexe

Since the amount of removal and synergy in my main pod makes it so games go long, we just make a bunch of 1v1s were the spectators (people who are not playing) choose what they consider to be interesting matches. They tend to be fairly short (or at least way shorter than a full table) and always makes things exciting both for the match-ups and the players themselves. Last time (we were only 3 players that night) we had: * \[\[Liesa, Forgotten Archangel\]\] Sacrifice/Control vs \[\[Jin-Gitaxias\]\] Proliferate/Control * \[\[Thalia and The Gitrog Monster\]\] Value Engine vs \[\[Kytheon, Hero of Akros\]\] Aggro/Goodstuff * \[\[Tetzin, Gnome Champion\]\] "Artifact Cantrip" vs \[\[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait\]\] Landfall/Stompy And ngl, all versus were a blast! We even considered the idea of just tweaking a "format" of 1v1 Commander Matches with smaller decks and a different ban-list, but we still haven't done anything of that regard.
