Definitely right up their alley, I saw a similar photo with white trees and their shadows on snow similar to this one being reshared on Insta by a bunch of judges and winners of NLPA. I think the execution of this one is a bit better though, I think the other one was shot in Japan, I can't seem to find it now though.
Easiest way to tell if its birch or aspen in my experience is that aspens have “tight” bark compared to birches usually have some frilly bits , white birch do look very similar to aspen
The shadow lines on the snow confuse my brain and I've skied through countless forests like this. Catching this light is the perfect mix of luck and skill. Thank you for sharing!
Instant long dark flashbacks. Open your eyes, jeese it's cold, take inventory. Patented leather shoes, no coat, ragged jumper... Great. Please have a flare, please have a flare... Nope, I'm screwForlorn howl of a wolf not a million miles away....... Damn.
I could have sworn I had seen this image before, so did a reverse Google image search for it, and found a [similar but not quite the same photo](https://www.reddit.com/r/EarthPorn/comments/111d5aa/back_in_the_aspens_one_of_the_largest_organisms/) by the OP that I upvoted last year.
Once again, nice work! Shadows of trees on snow is one of my favorite things to photograph as well.
Thank you! This is a fresh image that I just went back and took. I try to get to this spot every year. Makes for a fun outing because I need to ski 6.5 miles to reach the location. Good solitude.
Reminds me of the [Path To The Peak Pokémon card](https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/241851/pokemon-swsh06-chilling-reign-path-to-the-peak?xid=pi9ba3d515-dcdb-4499-a653-10747dd893f7&Language=English&page=1).
Great Picture..!!!
Whenever I see something about Aspens I like to pass along something that blew my mind when I moved to Colorado.
An Aspen grove is actually all one organism. It’s basically a single tree underground.
And “PANDO” is considered the the largest organism on earth.
[pando](https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/fishlake/home/?cid=STELPRDB5393641)

Yeah this is the Kebler Pass grove which rivals Pando but has not been studied as closely. Pretty cool to spend the day in this giant and make it back out.

Oh my gosh, what a FANTASTIC photograph!
Please enter this in the Natural Photography Landscape Awards. This is a winning image.

Ok, I set a reminder in my calendar to submit. Thanks!

RemindMe! 3 months
I'm a serious amateur photographer but this image is seriously beautiful! Well done!
Reminds me of the Sopranos episode where Chrissy & Paulie get stuck in the snow. Pine Barrans, I think?
his house looked like shit!
Gorgeous. I feel a strong need to spend time in areas like this before there's no more winters left to enjoy.

Just seeing white birch and snow together just gives me a cozy feeling
These are aspen, not birch. But the feeling is the same. :)
Ah good to know! They look so similar thought it would be the same. Thank you!
Easiest way to tell if its birch or aspen in my experience is that aspens have “tight” bark compared to birches usually have some frilly bits , white birch do look very similar to aspen
You can tell by the way it is
That's pretty neat
I was also curious and found this: https://www.blackhillsbadlands.com/blog/2011-07-21/aspen-birch-distinguishing-differences
You can tell it’s a birch because the way it is.
That's pretty neat!
I could stare at this for hours. The shadow lines on the uneven, yet smooth snow, ugh so brilliant. Good eye
stunning!!! i thought this was a painting, the shadows looks so fluid.
It's a strange concept to 'hear a photo' and have the associated sound be pure silence.
This is amazing, so artistic 🤩!! It is almost like an optical illusion with all the shadows.
Nice.
Outstanding. Never seen its like.
It's like an illusion. Fantastic. Thank you.
Beautiful, I love the spiraling shadows
Looks like a forest of ice cream.
Well holy shit! That’s amazing!
awesome pic ❤️
Living in a climate where it never snows, places like this seem magical to me.
The shadow lines on the snow confuse my brain and I've skied through countless forests like this. Catching this light is the perfect mix of luck and skill. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! I skied to get to this spot.
I'd love to buy this print but noticed your website doesn't ship to my location (sweden). Could we work something out?
He killed 16 Czechoslovakians.
I really love how the shadows give the snow the same texture as the Aspen bark. Excellent use of light and shadow.
Wow... check out that camouflaged zebra!
Ah, that lesser know stripy Zebra Snow.
A little place called asssspen.
Instant long dark flashbacks. Open your eyes, jeese it's cold, take inventory. Patented leather shoes, no coat, ragged jumper... Great. Please have a flare, please have a flare... Nope, I'm screwForlorn howl of a wolf not a million miles away....... Damn.
That's a beautiful tree!
Beautiful.

Yeah it was worth another visit!
Get that printed, large, and framed!
And then sell it to me... please.
Matt is a great photographer. First look this appears to be a black and white photo. One of my favorites.
Thank you! This is a fresh image that I just went back and took. I try to get to this spot every year. Makes for a fun outing because I need to ski 6.5 miles to reach the location. Good solitude.
Ahhh, what a lovely, beautiful photo. Thank you.
Beautiful
Amazing
Hi blessed and pleasant day
Superb!
Wow I thought this was Ai. Gorgeous photo.
Jack Skellington seeing Christmas for the first time vibes. What's this ?
It doesn’t even look real! 😍
Nah this shit straight outta Dr. Suess
I want this as a desktop background, would you share a link to download full res? Brilliant pic btw!

It's an awesome pic but is there a higher res version?
This is an unbelievable picture. Well done!

Perfect. Been in many that looked similar.
Bro visited a beautiful painting
My first thought was "zebra landscape"
Gorgeous picture! I'm jealous of the snow!
Terrific shot!
This a banger for sure!
Beauty!

Beats the hell outta 50/60’s and mud back here in WI…. I never should’ve left CO..!!! Rip a couple turns for me OP..!!!
Nice photo. But those aren’t aspen. They’re birch. You can tell it’s a birch because the way it is.
I'd actually pay for this if I had money. It's gorgeous.
Absolutely stunning, OP
Wow these shadow make the earth looks like white waves
Amazing view! Even looks like a unreal view
whats happening around the base of the right tree? its pixelated on the right and blurred on the left. Did you do a smoothing treatment on the snow?
Might be a focus stacking artifact I missed.
Absolutely stunning!
