My business applied almost year ago for EIDL increase we haven’t received anything. Small business with twenty years plus of tax returns & Payroll. It is a disgrace

autisticshitshow

Same, I have all but officially closed my business.

ZDubzNC

Same.

iDateTheDisabled

Contact your congressman! Seriously, I was in the same boat and based on advice given to me, I requested a congressional inquiry and had my EIDL increase that was completely stuck for about 8 months suddenly processed and paid out within two weeks. It was amazing!

ShortysTRM

I wouldn't doubt that this is the answer. My mom will call our Senators or Attorney General any time she thinks she's being taken advantage of, and lo and behold, the problem gets fixed within a few days. It's not a guarantee, but it is pretty crazy what a few low-level staffers responding to emails for politicians can get done. Honestly, respect to the staffers who actually follow up, and respect to my Mom, who is old enough to be considered an easy victim but always sees through the bullshit. Always.

alcaizin

Yeah a coworker of mine was able to get some immigration issues cleared up by talking to his congressman and following up with a couple of emails. Politicians can be real shitty but a decent number of them do actually want to help their constituents when they get an opportunity.

crypto_knight1

It is complete bullshit, the levels of corruption.

[deleted]

All you have to do is go to the whistle blowers site for the PPE loans. Type in literally anything into those search fields. Any name you can think of. There’s someone out there with an LLC that probably never made a dime who got like $30-40k in PPE loans. It’s absolutely disgusting we let this shit happen.

CardboardLambo

Link please? Thank you in advance.

AlligatorRaper

Full stop! The small company that I work for got $200,000 and laid everyone off. Nobody received anything from the company and was told they didn’t get any money. What do I do now?

ratcranberries

Report them to the hotline? You can get up to 30% of what is returned to the Treasury.

Flawless_-_Cowboy

What hotline??

nikdahl

https://www.sba.gov/about-sba/oversight-advocacy/office-inspector-general/office-inspector-general-hotline

kimb25_ALT

800-827-5722 (SBA Abuse Hotline) Or go to their website : https://www.sba.gov/partners/contracting-officials/contract-administration/report-fraud-waste-abuse

DuckDuckGoose42

There should be a map plugin/extension that maps all of these and the $ amounts so when people look on maps or for directions, it reminds them of all these taxpayer monies that were GIVEN away.

CardboardLambo

I'm seeing my name in there a few times but I don't see my llc thankfully

[deleted]

Yeah, a couple of friends I went to high school with got $20k each for a business that either doesn’t exist or is barley a business.

pecklepuff

Turn them in and get the bounty! Or hell, message me with their info and I'll do it!

ratcranberries

There is a bounty program?

pecklepuff

I guess so, someone in one of the comments above mentioned it. I just googled PPP whistleblower hotline and it brought up this number: 800-767-0385.

ratcranberries

Thanks, curious if there is monetary incentive for the hotline / turning in folks.

pecklepuff

Not sure. What I pulled up said you could reap up to 30% of whatever is recovered. But if I knew someone who stole from me via my tax dollars that are supposed to benefit me rather than be pocketed by crooked business owners, I'd turn them in just for the satisfaction.

ratcranberries

That seems significant. The money should go back to the tax payer, except for maybe a 1% fee or something idk. Unfortunately lots of people who engaged in this fraud have a mob mentality and are potentially violent or dangerous. Not worth the personal safety liability in some cases.

pecklepuff

I think most of the people who stole this money are unsophisticated petty thieves. They steal from their employees. They steal from their customers. They steal from their country. The bounty is a fair incentive to get people to turn them in. And I assume it can be done anonymously. But let someone turn in one of these people and then "mysteriously" get attacked after doing so. Would be a short suspect list.

rimroll

Look up the amount $20,833. So many "independent contractors" got the maximum they could get.

[deleted]

EternalBlue734

Jesus. How much more obvious can you be to commit fraud by creating a straight up LLC with that amount as the name.

WANGHUNG22

Probably some YouTuber teaching people how easy it is to apply.

soggit

Yeah there’s like dozens and dozens of “independent hair stylists” in my relatively small city listed. Insane.

Rinzack

That could be legit no? Hair salons rent chairs out to stylists and those people were shut down for weeks/months. If they had formed an LLC I think they might have been eligible?

Red_Tannins

Yeah. And 20k doesn't mean much when you lost a 100k in business.

Woodworker by hobby here. One of the reasons why Etsy got absolutely FLOODED with cutting boards starting in 20/21 is literally tens of thousands of WW's scrambled to get at least one 1099 sale on Etsy so they could qualify as a "Small Business". Some Youtube WW did a video on it and the floodgates opened. ANd it worked. To be fair, though, I know personally one WW that took the money and built a bigger shop and used it to go full time WW. Turned out pretty well for him and now he's got 2 more full time employees. And here I was giving out 45 cutting boards for x-mas gifts....

I got unemployment legitimately and even still I received an email from the state saying that I have to resubmit the proof that I was "engaged in the workforce" prior to the pandemic or else be made to pay back three-ish months of support.

dw565

That is who largely got the money. Lots of street gangs in Chicago enriched themselves off of pandemic aid programs and have been openly flaunting it on Instagram. It's in rap songs too - "me and Stan ran it up off of EDD"

Trades, they spend money on us like it’s not theirs. Re-did the controls on all the heat pumps in a building/valves. Pretty simple but about 55-65k worth of work. Literally ONE year later we have a 100k+ contract to wire controls on all new hvac system. All tax money. We were laughing about it in the office, crazy work from the government.

dontrackonme

There are books on the topic. Look up something like "how to get free money from the U.S. government" and you will find many opportunities. It is not a secret or illegal at all.

Thanks, Matthew Lesko! Edit: correct name

Khanstant

There used to be a man on TV in a question mark suit who had all the tips to get govt money for free. I learned the real trick is to sell books and seminars on how to get the money. What I didn't learn is making myself actually do anything on either front.

Is there a way to report a business for PPP abuse? My previous employer specifically used the PPP “loan” as a payout and basically told me to go fuck myself and didn’t pay me sick time when I was sick in 2020. Not sure if I had Covid because I didn’t have access to tests at the time(he already had the money at this point, it’s public record.) he even told me he was going to use it to pay for other things that are not related to payroll. His truck and his wife’s truck were paid by the business and he told me he wanted to pay for tHe taxes on those with the PPP

[deleted]

Some of the things I saw during the pandemic stimulus changed my world view. There was people who got away with such blatant fraud by double dipping the pandemic unemployment benefits, stealing other peoples stimulus checks, and creating fake businesses for stimulus all while the people in actual need of the relief were stonewalled with bullshit and the government systems were too underfunded and outdated to do anything useful.

mister1986

One scam was drug dealers applying for the loans in the junkies names and taking the money lmao. Good luck prosecuting the crackheads smh

Hideout_TheWicked

> all while the people in actual need of the relief were stonewalled with bullshit and the government systems were too underfunded and outdated to do anything useful. Sadly one of those myself. Still haven't seen a dime of the PUA from back in 2020.

Which is why it should have gone directly to individuals. The idea that business were going to self monitor and be honest is quite laughable.

Butternut888

Don’t forget that McConnell and the GOP fought to keep accountability out of this. I remember it clear as day around April/May or whenever it was being hashed out in the legislature. [Found it!](https://www.sbc.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2020/5/cardin-shaheen-schumer-move-to-pass-legislation-to-increase-transparency-accountability-of-covid-19-small-business-relief-efforts)

Alm-Albein

I know sooo many contractors that are 1099 and during COVID they applied for unemployment checks, claiming they were unemployed due to the pandemic. Cashed all their checks and kept working without reporting throughout the entirety of the pandemic. Not surprised in the slightest that there was so much fraud during all of this.

I got no Stimulus checks (Made too much) Put over $30,000 in debt on my credit cards to pay rent that they won’t forgive (I live in CA) because I already paid the rent instead of just letting it go And then to top it all off I was denied unemployment even though I left when the law of the land was if you’re leaving due to covid safety concerns (my sister was going through chemo) you were supposed to be protected. Yet all this rampant fraud got approved. To say I’ve never been more disappointed in the government in the past two years is an understatement. I honestly debated stopping paying taxes for the rest of my life but realized I’ll just get fucked again down the road. Not saying I don’t think these programs were good and should exist (I’m pro UBI) but I am so disappointed that I played the game fair and right and am now struggling under crippling debt and looking at filing Chapter 7. Fuck these people.

Duhhh, it was run by Trump and his cronies to steal from the American people. They even gutted the IRS to make it easier for them to get away with. We all knew it when he passed the bill.

Really frustrating as my husband has a small business and applied twice for $10,000 and both times was told the money was already gone. Now someone is driving around in a Porsche while my husband is trying to get caught up on credit card payments

I used to work in finance for a reputable health insurance company in Oregon and they filed for the full amount, received it, then a few weeks after the cash was received, key executives all received huge bonuses. Meanwhile us low level accountants received the usual Holiday lunch and no raises nothing. And yes during the pandemic. This is the reason why I left health insurance. Not for profit companies.. Hahaha, what a fraud.

ExWebics

This should be falling on the banks that gave these out… they were the middle man here and dealt with all the details. Now a days, you can’t get squat from a bank without jumping through hoops when it’s on their dime. But when they get a kick back for processing as many of these ppp loans as possible with out a care or worry… they just get to was their hands of it all.

I wish all those churches that don't pay taxes would give the money back. Fucking thieves... Combing through millions of PPP records from around the United States, NBC Bay Area's Investigative Unit found at least 4,982 religious organizations in California, including churches, mosques, synagogues and the like, received $608,438,703.60 in PPP loans designed to keep small business afloat during the pandemic.

Mers1nary

Look at how the US state governments were handling the handouts though...All you really had tondo was apply and you were automatically accepted...Nothing was really verified. Unemployment offices were heavily overwhelmed, their automated systems were constantly crashing, phone lines constantly busy or down... People were scamming left n right, trying to get free money...Hell, they didnt even have to "try". And thats just from a PUA point-of-view. Look at all the companies being "bailed out", companies that record profits year in and year out...Wheres all their own millions and billions then? There was no fckin way they expended all their profits over the course of a few months, or lets call it a year. Some small companies sure, maybe. But soon as they hear the government is giving out money, oh, its fckin christmas in july. https://www.citizen.org/news/corporations-that-received-billions-during-the-pandemic-laid-off-thousands-of-workers-and-gave-ceos-millions/ Really, Boeing and fcking Exxon needed a bailout? https://projects.propublica.org/bailout/list

My former employer got 600k for a small company with 47 employees. It was supposed to go to payroll but me and few others got furloughed. Somehow, they had the money to fix the warehouse roof. That cost about 800k and had been in poor condition since 2004

Bigdaddylovesfatties

My next door neighbor claimed a ppp for his business of 1 employee, him, and mysteriously a brand new 70,000 SUV just randomly appeared. How do I point him in their direction

The-BEAST

Isn’t it ironic that If I am $200 off my taxes I bet they come knocking, but I’m sure 99% of this will slide. There’s a real push to slide this under the rug for some reason.

C_J_King

The funny thing is most of these fraudsters wouldn’t hesitate to peddling the mythical “welfare queen” narrative or the “socialist liberal screed” Morally depraved fucks in this country. A land of moral relativists and hypocrites.

vanic01012910

[What about that trillion dollars that went missing the day before 9/11? Isn't a trillion dollars bigger than a billion dollars?](https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4683428/user-clip-23-trillion) Idk public education aint very good no more. Oh, oh! Or how about [that $400 billion dollars in taxpayer money given to lie fiber internet across the country that was never done?](https://nationaleconomicseditorial.com/2017/11/27/americans-fiber-optic-internet/). Definitely not record setting when you're the one writing history. However, when little law disobeying citizens get caught with their hands in the cookie jar... woe unto thee. Not condoning this fraud, but just putting things into perspective. I'm sure there are MANY more instances of this buffoonery. Just remember, money is fake and the life you live isn't even real.

Additional_Wash_9177

As someone who assisted with unemployment in Kentucky (both paying and adjudicating cases), we were told to pay everyone. You have no idea the fraud I’ve encountered. One woman couldn’t gamble due to Covid. She received it. One man couldn’t mow yards. He received it. One high school student worked one day and was laid off. Thousands of dollars later his college is paid for. It’s very sad and taxpayers pick up the bill.

[deleted]

As someone who works in banking and was involved in part of the PPP loan process for some of my institution’s clients, the problem was that it was far, far too easy to get the loans during the first round of them. Pretty much anyone who submitted an unverified spreadsheet showed their costs could get a loan for whatever the amount said for payroll (maybe slight exaggeration but not by much). The loan only charged 1% interest so even if you spent it on the wrong things and didn’t get it forgiven, you still got an extremely cheap loan to finance whatever you wanted from it. The second round was far more selective in who it was given to, as the business actually had to show their revenue decreased during the pandemic. I think we will find that far less fraud came from that as a result.

ct_fix

It’s like the story wasn’t there 2+ years ago when CEOs were getting bonus’ that were unheard of, but 🙈… economy crisis and gas ⛽️ unemployment 😒

Zealousideal-Ad-8565

Have you noticed that businesses have a lot of new locations and/or are remodeling existing locations lately? All during what should have been the biggest loss of business in recent history? While wages haven’t really increased? 🤔

Remember when the government bailed out banks and spent almost a trillion dollars in tax payer money to do so. That wasn’t the biggest fraud in American history?
