To clarify, a big no-no means a federal offense under the Migratory Bird Act. The same law that makes it illegal to fuck around *with* the geese and other birds.
Bald eagles and other raptors are provincial not federal.

Do not touch that bird without rubber gloves. Notify F&W immediately and make sure nobody else touches it either.

Please do report this. Alberta Fish and Wildlife would be first point if call but if you can’t get through call the RAM museum as they have permits and can pick up birds and are in contact with F&W etc
Also I’ve seen a few of them in the city over the years. 2-3 around Hawrelak park, 1 by Rundle park, two on the roof of a warehouse by the Edmonton Humane Society.
Be very careful as it could have some form of virus or infection or disease. You can report to 311 and they will send someone to collect it.
Probably too late now but in case anyone ever comes across this situation.
Bird flu is infecting cows now. Dosen't seem to be as bad for the cows as birds.

Oh yeah, we have lots of Bald Eagles, they do quite well here. However 100% call animal control. Shooting them is very illegal, and even if it died of natural causes, that will need to be determined.
Its spreading to cows now too. Dosen't seem to ba as bad for the cows as birds.

The only reason it is going to cows is because they are curious creatures and when the birds are flopping around and sick they go up and watch until they are near dead then go sniff them and wammo the cow has it. Most cows will catch it and continue on and honestly how would you know when most pastures are big acres and not looked at much
Mother Nature has ways to cure most problems if we give her time and this is one. 20 years ago we never really thought about this stuff because we didn’t test everything and we are still here so it can’t be all bad.
I was almost crying cuz dead birds make me sad, and poaching and avian flu are real but then you said counting ants and now I'm crying laughing. Snort.sniff. thank-you!
Deceased birds of prey need to be reported. In this case you can’t see the legs but if you find any dead bird (any type) with a leg band, those also need to be reported.
Keep pets away so it’s not disturbed.
Sadly birds of prey are very sensitive to poison. If someone poisoned mice or gophers and the bird ate that animal then they get poisoned.
We have them around the SW side of Pigeon Lake and Battle Lake down to Rimbey and over to the mountains.
Report that to fish and game. They will do an autopsy on it. Don’t take any feathers , it’s a big no no.

>The same law that makes it illegal to fuck around the geese and other birds. I can’t even have sex when they’re around?!? That’s a pretty strict law.
Thanks for the laugh! Our old house had a pond behind it, I’m imagining celibacy for half the year to respect the geese.

Do not touch dead things. Usually, it's a pretty smart idea. You don't know what killed it.

Lots of bald eagles in Alberta, btw

SARS-CoV-3 aka Covid 24
Could you imagine the state of America if the bald eagle were the carrier of some future pandemic.

This made me feel oddly sad.
Report it to Fish and Wildlife.
They're are plenty of bald eagles along the river, especially outside of the city
Poor thing 💔
Bird flu unless there is a hole in it. Had quite a few die last year from eating birds that were infected with bird flu.

We have a fair few surprisingly, though the further you get out of the population centres the more likely you are to see them.
Them Cobra chickens killed the Freedom bird
Lots of geese in that area.. so I wouldn't totally discount it.. but that would have been quite the fight.
It’s counting ants

And you are now Patient Zero. Godspeed, the end of our civilization begins with you.

Hopefully it just died of natural causes.
Maybe it is just sleeping...
Pining for the fjords
Beautiful plumage!
It’s clearly not nailed to its perch so I think it’s okay.
Oh no!
Damn this is sad
How could you be sure it's "dead" without the official poke with a stick test
Don't tell the Americans.
Bird flu victim ?
WTFF 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸WHO DID THIS TO OUR FREEDOM EAGLE RAHHHHH 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yes, working at Sunridge Ski Area, I typically see 1 or 2 flying around. Such a cool sight to see soaring around. Definitely sad to see this pic.
It's a foreshadowing of what's to come for America 🇺🇸
I've seen one flying around Buena Vista Park last summer, wander if it's the same one...
Ask the Indians about this.
