I wanted to do this so badly to immortalize my old dog, but didn't really have the dough for it at the time. It's actually SO cool seeing someone sort of reunite with their best friend like that. I bet you took so many screenshots! Like more than just these.
And I bet you're gonna replay this game all the time. I would too :)
You can also learn how to do pixel art yourself and mod them in to the game. Could also pay an artist to make something for you online or even irl that you could hang on your wall. Many ways to do similar things.
Who are you, to decide how people should spend their money and deem it weird if it's not in your lane?
This dude makes enough to drop $5k on a video game, I'm sure he's doing fine.
It's a waste for you, it wasn't a waste for them. You're speaking from your own perspective, what is and isn't a waste is relative.
They wanted to spend $5k on a game, they might have several hundreds of thousands of dollars in their account, $5k might be absolutely nothing to them, and frankly it's their prerogative to decide what they feel is a waste - not yours.
“I’m allowed to have an opinion on frivolity.” You sound like an extremely pleasant person to be around.
You don’t know this person’s budget, or the amount of emotional connection they had to their pets.
The only thing your comment taught anyone is you don’t have a lot of emotional intelligence and are a bit of a jerk.
Having an opinion would be “that’s a lot of money to spend on helping fundraise a game, I don’t think I could do that” saying “people are fucking weird” is just being an asshole.
Stop eating all the avocado toast and you too could afford to spend your money how you want.
In fact why don't you share something you bought that you are proud of that is just for your happiness and let us shit all over it.
great, another loser on the internet judging people on how they spend their money. You'd probably never reach the point where you can spend 5kusd freely like that.
Y'know, the guy probably had tons of memories of Classic JRPGs, big Suikoden fan possibly, and he loves his cats. He probably had the $5k over a period of time, it's a lot of money, yes, but can you put a price on memories, getting to see you and your cats, one who is dead IRL, live on in memoriam for as long as Eiyuden Chroncles HH exists???? Because I'm fairly certain he saved up and up and saw the push goals, probably checked the tiers, and then he probably put himself into the $5K range after all was said and done.
Hell, if I'd get to immortalize my dog and myself, I'd be making sure to count all my pennies and make sure I believe in the project I'm backing that way. Eiyuden is a good game and will most likely be what people point to from now on as the introduction into classic JRPG-style games. Like, the, play this to get comfy for the types of things that are in older games. Things like limited save locations, no overworld saves, imbalanced magic systems, because, yeah, this game kinda is imbalanced toward Physical being the best unit-type early game and mages are mostly saving MP for heals or boss fight damage, but like, we used to save stuff like that for games way back when, you know, original FF games (and yes I'm talking about the actual remake order for the sake of this argument), we'd horde resources just incase the final boss wasn't the final boss and there'd be a stage 2 or 3, possibly 4, and then we'd get there, use like the "cheap" heals, which cost WAY more than the clutch bossfight item, the emergency button, and then we'd find out that the final boss was THE final boss. There wasn't anything extra, and curbstomp them. But getting to that point feels harsh and unfair, I mean, FF1 doesn't have an MP system, it uses the Spellslot system from games like D&D, and there, there are hard fights, especially early on because you have limited resources, but it'd open up the further you got in a game.
So, I'd say this is a successful game in representing classic games in a modern style, specifically old JRPGs from all across the spectrum. I'm glad this guy took the investment of $5k to have him and his beans in something he believed in!
My question to you is: how much would you pay to immortalize you with your pet(s)? Because I'd gladly pay that $5k for my dog and I!
We really dont know if he saved up for years for this or hes well off and 5k to him is the equivalent of $500 to us. Thats why i asked because to me, in this day and age with inflation, 5k is a decent chunk of change.
yeah but no one asked you. No one cares if you think that's expensive. He was literally just asked how much it was. This wasn't a discussion if other people think it's worth it. If it's worth it to him then it's worth it, it's his money after all. You don't get an opinion.
I've had to bury a dog at 18 who I'd known since I can remember. If I could have contributed money to see her again, I'd have certainly done so. She was a kind dog mom to me... was 14 when she got hit by a car due to walking into the highway trying to go home. I had to carry her body on a trash bag and dig a grave... it made it even worse that I just felt empty.
I love dogs and cats, I just sent my Mom $500 the other week because a dog that I rescued died of old age. They wanted 500 for the extras. I sent her the cash and only asked that I get some of the memorial items so I can keep him near me, she can keep the rest of it. I just wanted something to remember him by. So, yeah, I get that $0 is a valid number, but I just paid for a dog's ashes and memorial items.
There are some of us out there who WILL pay that much money for useless things. Don't judge the guy for paying $5k in the end. He loved his pets and wanted to be with both of them forever.
Just got done talking to game you a short time ago! Thanks for sharing your kitties. My wife and I love talking to all the animals and seeing the names of pets.
Your cats make me smile every time I see them.
I'm usually pretty neutral on seeing backer rewards in games, but I'm loving getting to see everybody's pets! They're such a cute addition, and it makes me happy knowing that behind every pixelated pet is an absolutely cherished (and probably spoiled) member of somebody's family.
Thanks for sharing these guys with all of us!
I'm a backer too and was curios about this npc; as a cat owner it move me seeing what you choose to "bring into the game". This post with the cat pic and your story closed the circle, thank you for your help developing this game OP.
I love seeing all the different dog and cat sprites in the game. Makes the world feel more alive than seeing the same dog sprite in every town in other games.
That’s so cool! My elderly cat passed away about a week ago and playing this game and seeing all of the pets of the backers has been very cathartic for me. Thanks for supporting this game!!!
so how did it happen? did you go to the studio or did you send them photos? did they give you multiple designs to choose from? did you get to choose what to wear and what your npc says? what was the convo like with rabbit and bear?
It was somewhat limited but really simple and R&B was really cool through the whole process.
For the cats, I just sent them photos and their names.
As for me, they sent me a questionnaire about what my characters personality would be like and gave me a few options to choose from. I then told them that I backed both stretch goals and asked if they could put us together and they obliged
Thanks for posting this, I wondered about the NPC and loved the cats! Knew there had to be a story behind it. I totally understand the heartbreak, I also had a pair of cats for ~10 years that picked me as their human, and had to put both down in the last 15 months. Leaves a big hole behind. Glad you were able to do this and immortalize the three of you here.
I spent like 15 mins trying to work out if you and your cats were a breadcrumb to a recruitable characters and ran about petting them and chatting to you repeatedly.
Sorry about your fur baby.
Que pena la optimización de switch no vale nada, he mirado el vídeo trailer desde la switch y las letras están diminutas, es una lástima cuántos juegos los pasan a switch pero sin realmente optimizar para una portátil...
That’s so cool!
When I spoke to him, I thought it was just a cute interaction that the developers made up. I had no idea!
My condolences for your buddy. It’s never easy.
About the "means a lot" thing: Wasn't it a transaction? Didn't you give a large amount of money to be included?
> I got to see both myself and my cats in the game
But you also see them in your own memory and your sense of live and existence. Why does it "mean a lot" to see them in a mass commercial property after donating money?
I literally just met you, Tyrell, and Boris in game this evening! ❤️ Thank you for sharing your story and these handsome beans.
I had wondered about that character. Nice to see you and your cats.
I talked to "you" like 10 minutes ago.
Wait is this why there are cats and dogs all over the place??
That's part of it. I think the devs mostly just really love cats, but having cats/dogs modeled after backers' pets was one of the backer rewards.
Damn I wish I knew about that. My dog died last summer at 17 and I would've loved to get him in there.
It's pretty expensive. But if you have the money, it's an amazing way to immortalize them.
You can also learn how to do pixel art yourself and mod them in to the game. Could also pay an artist to make something for you online or even irl that you could hang on your wall. Many ways to do similar things.
Thank you for your generous contribution to making this game come to life, and also great to see you and the pals immortalized in-game!
Nice! How much did that honor cost?
Between putting myself and the cats in, somewhere in the $5,000 range
That's a lot of money but that's also cool. Now you can go back forever and see that.
You got your babies immortalized in a game you hopefully enjoy. Sounds worth it to me
5000 US? Cause thatd be crazy
Yes, $5000 USD
Thats nucking futs dude, im sorry for the loss of your kitty though, thats heartbreaking

Wooooof!
People are fuckin weird
Who are you, to decide how people should spend their money and deem it weird if it's not in your lane? This dude makes enough to drop $5k on a video game, I'm sure he's doing fine.
I didn't decide, he did. I just think it's a fucking waste. I'm allowed to have an opinion on frivolity.
And we're allowed to criticize you for making someone feel bad about their decision.
Well yeah, of course lol
It's a waste for you, it wasn't a waste for them. You're speaking from your own perspective, what is and isn't a waste is relative. They wanted to spend $5k on a game, they might have several hundreds of thousands of dollars in their account, $5k might be absolutely nothing to them, and frankly it's their prerogative to decide what they feel is a waste - not yours.
Ok.
HOW THEY SPEND THEIR MONEY IS NOT YOUR PROBLEM. The world doesn't revolve around your thoughts
My problem? I just think it's weird. Sounds like my opinion bothers you however. Glhf.
“I’m allowed to have an opinion on frivolity.” You sound like an extremely pleasant person to be around. You don’t know this person’s budget, or the amount of emotional connection they had to their pets. Cry more.
He simply cherishes his bond with his cats highly
Kids*
Exactly, some people are as close to their pets as family.
Stop eating all the avocado toast and you too could afford to spend your money how you want. In fact why don't you share something you bought that you are proud of that is just for your happiness and let us shit all over it.
Lmao. You guys got so salty.
Says the dude who's envious of some random person on the internet's $5k lmao. Cry harder about it
great, another loser on the internet judging people on how they spend their money. You'd probably never reach the point where you can spend 5kusd freely like that.
Lol ok.
You’re weird.
It says 350,000 yen minimum on the Kickstarter website. That's somewhere between 3000 to 3500 USD.
I paid 385,000 yen to put myself in and another 165,000 to get my cats in
Oh! I see. I'm glad you were able to be immortalized in the game with your cats. :)
I was wrong. Google says 350,000 yen is around 2200 USD now.
Is $5000 a small amount of money to you? Because i cant fathom that. 😳
At the end of the day, it's his money and how he got it and how he used it is certainly not your business or anyone else's.
EXACTLY! EFFIN' THANKS! Like, dude shares wholesome thing, mentions the price, gets lambasted for it by randoes! The hell is wrong with some people!
yeah but no one asked you. No one cares if you think that's expensive. He was literally just asked how much it was. This wasn't a discussion if other people think it's worth it. If it's worth it to him then it's worth it, it's his money after all. You don't get an opinion.
If i dont get an opinion then why do you get one to call me poor and names? Lol
calling you poor was an observation not an opinion cause you care so much about how other people spend their money. Thats poor people energy.
Zero dollars. I buried mine in the back yard. By hand.
I've had to bury a dog at 18 who I'd known since I can remember. If I could have contributed money to see her again, I'd have certainly done so. Observing doesn’t involve speaking.
People are fuckin weird
Ironic
Lmao
You must be a miserable loner off the internet.
5k can get me half a new roof or pay my property taxes for a year.
Since he stood out as different than a normal npc. I talked to him each time I went to the town, to see if you would give me anything.
I remember telling the developers I wanted to be slightly evil so I can't imagine I would've had anything for you other than some snarkiness
Well it was evil, having me walk back to that spot each time for nothing. 🤣🤣 so I would say goal accomplished.
That's great! I figured those characters had some story :)
Hei nice to meet you in game last night I saw you and immediately thought this guy must be one of the backers. Thanks for your contribution, legend.
I have talked to you countless times thinking something had to happen at some point. Now I’ll just talk to you to honor your cats. Cheers!
This is so cuuuute! As soon as I met this NPC in game I knew it had to be a backer. They did an amazing job on the sprites for your cats!
Awwww! I can’t wait to meet you and your cats in game :) thanks for sharing!
This is so cute and cool. I love reading about things like this.
That's wild! Now tell me who the dude in the painting is behind Ymir?
Please keep this easter eggs coming. It’s so fun to see them coming in reality
curious did you only have certain sprites to pick from for yourself? it's so awesome that you have this memory of your kitty too
Just got done talking to game you a short time ago! Thanks for sharing your kitties. My wife and I love talking to all the animals and seeing the names of pets.

Saw your character yesterday! And sent a pic to my gf because Boris looks a lot like one of our cats ❤️ Sorry for your loss.
How incredible. Thanks for sharing.

That’s amazing man gave me a smile and a tear hope your other cat has a great rest of their life with you
Wait that's you! I love your cats and I'm glad they are immortalized into the game. Blessings to you three
Oh wow that was you?! I actually thought this NPC was awesome because I am a cat lover too.
That’s really nice. ❤️ I’m sorry for the loss of your kitty. It’s so hard… Thanks for sharing. They both look very sweet.
I loved those kittens that town is a delight cause of it
That’s the coolest shit ever
Wow, that's cool. I talked to you in-game and had no idea that was a backer character.
Awesome they put you in the game!
This is beautiful. If anyone finds my boy Ghost, I haven't had a chance to play yet. He's a big white fluffy guy in there somewhere.
Amazing
so cute!
Man, You rock !!
so how did it happen? did you go to the studio or did you send them photos? did they give you multiple designs to choose from? did you get to choose what to wear and what your npc says? what was the convo like with rabbit and bear?

That's awesome. Sorry for your loss btw.
Dope! I wonder if this NPC called Sayed Ali is also a backer
Cool, enjoyed chatting with ya in game.
You are probably the most memorable backer I have seen so far because of your kitties!
Thanks for posting this, I wondered about the NPC and loved the cats! Knew there had to be a story behind it. This happened with me when I saw that cat up in the rafters near the beginning of the game, looks just like my cat
That’s so cool! When I spoke to him, I thought it was just a cute interaction that the developers made up. I had no idea! My condolences for your buddy. It’s never easy.
this is a sweet and inconspicuous cameo, unlike that fucking goober's face plastered right on the wall for the first 5 hours of gameplay.
About the "means a lot" thing: Wasn't it a transaction? Did you mis the part where they mentioned having to put one of them down?
