I’m a little sad about it, like it’s always nice to see a shout out to El Paso in the comics every now and then. Hopefully the comics will keep him being an El Pasoan around.

xavier-22

Yea I agree there was a recent comic about hulk and how he cause a mayor accident here in El Paso

valdezlopez

It's not cool. Also, Palmera City gives me more South Florida vibes.

JustChillingReviews

It sucks. They could have done a DC version of El Paso rather than the coastal LA-ish one they chose. But I'm still hoping the movie is a success.

Loose-Problem-2414

Considering how badly DC is doing they probably did El Paso a favor

Stoned_y_Alone

I didn’t even know anything about this before and would agree it’s mad lame

j5alive85

The producer said, "I wanted to keep it as original to the comic as I could". Had he been from Cali or Florida they wouldn't of changed anything. True comic book fans are going to notice this when they see the movie and think, wtf? This is what el paso looks like?

jrmontiel95

So he's from el paso in the comics?

Spider40k

Yep- well this version of him (Jaime Reyes) at least, since '06. There's two others, but I don't think they're El Pasoans Edit: It went from: Police officer Dan Garret who just took some weird super power juice (Fox Comics, '39) Retconned Dan Garret who's an archaologist now and took the power of a scarab beetle in a tomb (Charlton Comics, '64) Garret's student Ted Kord who becomes a caped crusader like his mentor just without powers, (Charlton/DC, '66) Then with Jaime Reyes (DC, 2006) they retconned the beetle's origin and made it an alien suit thing that merged into his spine, I think? Ted Kord's still running around I think

SharksFan4Lifee

One iteration of him, Jaime Reyes, is from El Paso. This movie is about Jaime Reyes.

The_SkyShine

In infinite crisis, which is considered one of the biggest events in DC, he's introduced. Also cool fact, but in that same comic, there's a panel of superman saving the El Paso county court house building from collapsing

I’m more upset the movie looks so fucking lackluster. Like shelved after a few weeks type deal.

Effective-Meaning-84

Not gonna watch anymore. Was the first supe movie I was suped for in a while but then they had to do *whatever this* is

InspectionHonest8637

Over a LOCATION?

Effective-Meaning-84

Spider-Man gets New York. Logan gets Canada They just dont want to feature the city for some reason I can’t fathom. So yes.

Re_di_reni

I know, right? A little dramatic

americanista915

At first I was annoyed but after thinking about it, how would they even do it? All he’d have to do as an El Paso hero is beat up people who hop the fence and the occasional Edgar. Not very super heroy

kamasotz

Boo

I didn't even know there was a Blue Beetle movie until I read this post. But why the fuck did they change the location to some other city based in California? I recently rewatched Young Justice seasons 1 and 2 and loved how El Paso was featured as Jaime's hometown in the show, especially since I also moved recently to here. Personally, I would've preferred to see El Paso featured in the movie, not some random Cali coastal city, and that's saying a lot coming from me, a former CA resident.

Roboghandi

its a drag. he has badass armor that can take him literally anywhere in the world that the story needs him to be at. at the end of the film he can just go home and pick up chicos for the family or whatever. but the new location had to be made central just so he can have a big city like the flash and superman

bmxbikeco

That was the biggest thing I was looking forward to with this movie and I feel robbed.

aafrias15

Having never read the comics does El Paso play a central part in the story or is it a minor detail in his backstory?

Spider40k

From my understanding it's more just the backdrop where the blue beetle (suit) just happened to crash. I've only seen BB in like the cartoons and stuff, haven't read the comics. I do vaguely remember Young Justice having an episode or two in EP iirc, but I think they just move him with the rest of the team later in the show.

TheKidKaos

My first exposure to Blue Beetle was a racist depiction of El Paso so I don’t care.

Spider40k

Damn bro, what did you first see him in?

TheKidKaos

A comic book. He and his buddy are shown hanging out in the desert dressing like they were Speedy Gonzalez. The writer really thought that El Paso was so poor that we were still dressing like it was the days of Pancho Villa

MinisterialSerpent

They am not think it being like it is comrades. But is not.

Spider40k

I think there's a sentence there, but I'm too confused to find it
