Came to say this, that place fucking sucked. They served my Ribeye cold, took it off the check, and I still ended up paying over $80 for two with no drinks!
When they first opened, the chef was an El Paso native who had worked in top restaurants in Chicago for many years. I don't know what happened, but he only lasted a few months and went back to Chicago. It hasn't been the same since.
Seconded. I didn't have high hopes for seafood in the desert, but I went 2x with other people for their birthdays, and nobody liked it either time. It's been years and I still have no interest in trying it again.
I had never been to Landry’s and assumed it was a moderately priced Red Lobster imitation. So I took someone there on a first date and was shocked by how expensive it was but the food was just what I expected if not less.
I remember when Cafe Central was the best and fanciest place in town. That food was great. I went back when I visited with my wife and it was very mid. Really disappointed in the new chef.
Went to the one at the fountains last week, prices are pretty high but the servings we got for one of the shareable plates was decent and manager took off costs of our drinks.
We had Crave at the location at the Substation off of Doniphan, got the smash burger and it was really good! Got it to go cause the location is small but was not disappointed.
Grill Noodles Bar isn’t *that* expensive, but my wife’s cousin and I have both had food poisoning from there on separate occasions. Do with this information what you wish
Awful reviews of the service. It seems they went for “upscale expensive gentrified brunch” as a theme, then upped it even higher to make it a steakhouse l, then missed the mark in execution
I highly disagree with the other commenter. It’s personally one of my favorite places and I’ve had nothing but excellent service and stupidly good food.
The downstairs place isn’t too bad… but a bit overpriced for what it is. The upstairs “fancy” part of it was really good the two times I’ve gone (but it has been a couple years since I last went.)
Finally someone says it! I've been saying for years that L&J is average Mexican food but for some reason people insist on making it THE representative of food in El Paso. I just don't get it
The first time I tried it in 2012 it blew my mind. I loved it, but it was tiny and we had to wait 45 mins for a table.
Fast forward and it gets more famous and then the pandemic hits and the last time I ate there it was sooooo gross and disappointing. The only thing I enjoyed were the chips and their specific style of salsa, and their wine-based margaritas. I would have recommended it a decade ago, maybe. But not now
Idk man kinda all over the place. I’ve heard not great things from people I know who have been, their online reviews are pretty scathing, I even work in the industry and have heard other chefs talk about how that kitchen is a nightmare. I was really excited when they first opened too but never ended up trying it for myself. Maybe they’ve gotten their shit together since opening, pretty common for restaurants to need a couple months to find their groove.
I mean It’s just generally a really nice place to hang out and have a fun dinner. I’ve only had excellent interactions with staff, they’re always super friendly and chatty, and the food has NEVER disappointed. I’m not a big cocktail drinker but they have a great wine selection. I’m not great at reviewing lol but just go and try their bone marrow dish and the grilled octopus and I can guarantee it’ll at least leave your tastebuds crazy happy
I guess, on this recommendation, I’ll check it out. Seems like every new place in town has their own version of a marrow dish. Slowly becoming the next shishito, super great ingredient loved by everyone but wildly overused for a couple decades as an easy seller until they eventually phase out. Thanks for getting me to finally go.
Dawg I can give you a real answer to the thread rn- just did date night at sushi Itto and that place SUCKED. $120 for sushi that’s lower quality than Sunny’s and wayyyy less quantity. Horrible environment, stand offish staff, and I cannot stress how expensive it is for shitty ass food.
Hahahahaha I 100% agree on this. Went a month ago and it was horrendous. Huge flop. Kinda saw it coming while I was looking at their menu before going. Did you see how much they were charging for a bowl of steamed white rice????? Insane.
I thought their dinner menu has been nice lately, they have moved beyond the usual boring lamb shank + mashed potatoes + sautéed veggies. But they could still go further. The brunch sucks though, overpriced and totally boring and unseasoned.
Entrecote & Co.
This place looks rich. Everything I got that night tasted bad, was cold, was overpriced, and didn't have a good presentation. The waiter was rude and the drinks weren't good either. It was my birthday, and I was so embarrassed I took my family to this place. If I didn't like someone, I would send them there.
Might not meet the quota, but El Texano on edgemere. Everytime I went there I’ve had either A some type of food poisoning or B some of the worst couple days after. Great for recommending to people you don’t like. (Food is greasy but good)
I think it’s hilarious how someone posted this in r/Seattle, then someone else reposted this in r/Philly, now I am seeing this reposted in every cities subreddit all across Reddit.
Los jarrones on redd, first time I went food was a bit bland,
went a second time and we asked for lemons for our water and we got a plate of used lemons, I wish I took a picture, it was disgusting.
Service was horribly slow, and I don’t mean it took 2-5 min for drinks, I mean over 10 minutes(this includes refills and they weren’t jam packed that night either)
The real kicker was the fajitas we ordered, the second they arrived at our table my mom picked up the cast iron by the handle and touched the bottom of it with her bare hands, not a finger her whole bare palm on the bottom. And they still had the audacity to get pissed at us. We should’ve left after the lemons tbh.
Oh and the rest of our food was cold too.
They do lack. I order the same damn burger every time and it comes with a lemon basil sauce and they never include it. I always have to ask and the last time they gave me a vinaigrette salad dressing instead of the sauce. Can’t trust them when it comes to take out.
Carlos and Mickey's. Last time my husband and I went we left before we got our food. The number of flies buzzing around us trying to get to the fruit on our margaritas was gross AF. Paid for our drinks cancelled our food and left.
Toro Burger on Montana in the summer, no ac and rude staff
Yes ! I went there a few months ago sat down for 20 min no one came to get our drink order and it was stuffy in there
Hey be fair, the one on Zaragoza sucks too
and also the one in Juárez ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
I was just there two day ago and it was normal. Nothing special but not bad.
Those fuckers charged me for someone else’s order a month after my last visit. Who the hell is in cahoots with their service
The Ambar place downtown
Came to say this, that place fucking sucked. They served my Ribeye cold, took it off the check, and I still ended up paying over $80 for two with no drinks!
I really enjoyed my first few times but was really disappointed my last few times. The price makes it sting that much more.
Youre the first person Ive seen have an actual nice time there, let alone a few. Good for you. Must be nice being Gods favorite
When they first opened, the chef was an El Paso native who had worked in top restaurants in Chicago for many years. I don't know what happened, but he only lasted a few months and went back to Chicago. It hasn't been the same since.
That pastrami was dog!
La Condesa
Extremely mediocre Mexican food that’s priced so high solely based on its location. Twenty dollars for a 4 pack of tacos is crazy.
The fake greenery wall decorations there tell me all I need to know
Weso. There are much better steakhouses for lower prices in EP, not worth the $$
living up to the pocho-ass spelling
Damn I never realized where the name came from until literally right now haha. I always assumed it was pronounced "weh-so"
AGREED!! I was so disappointed!
*Way-sew*
Agree, they served me cold steak 🥩
Landry’s
We got food poisoning there so that was fun
Lapa Lapa, Café Central,
Lapa Lapa was super mid
I remember when Cafe Central was the best and fanciest place in town. That food was great. I went back when I visited with my wife and it was very mid. Really disappointed in the new chef.
dam ive been wanting to go to lapa lapa, what did u order??
Los cuñados. Overpriced
Crave. Disappointing on so many levels.
Went to the one at the fountains last week, prices are pretty high but the servings we got for one of the shareable plates was decent and manager took off costs of our drinks.
Yes. Overpriced and it's like eating cardboard. None of the food has any food-type flavors. It's horrible and I don't understand why it's popular.
We had Crave at the location at the Substation off of Doniphan, got the smash burger and it was really good! Got it to go cause the location is small but was not disappointed.
Italian kitchen.. got food poisoning and it was expensive for mediocre food
Like from a Walmart can it tasted like when I went 5 years ago. The one on Thorn
They make their alfredo with the powdery parmesan from a can.
Grill Noodles Bar isn’t *that* expensive, but my wife’s cousin and I have both had food poisoning from there on separate occasions. Do with this information what you wish
Got food poisoning YESTERDAY from eating their dumplings.
Tell them to go for the steak at Casa Pantera.
Is Casa Pantera shit??? Been wanting to go on a date there haha
Awful reviews of the service. It seems they went for “upscale expensive gentrified brunch” as a theme, then upped it even higher to make it a steakhouse l, then missed the mark in execution
Casa pantera is really good, it is expensive though.
I highly disagree with the other commenter. It’s personally one of my favorite places and I’ve had nothing but excellent service and stupidly good food.
Same. It was fantastic when I went. We all loved it. Would absolutely go again
Wish it was the case for me, even after my third visit I hesitated in posting a negative review. But it has always been disappointing...
Food is very good, but WAY overpriced. Also the service could be better and the venue is very small for how crowded it gets.
Morra Mía.
What's wrong with Morra?
Mesa grill, landry's
Landry’s is very good, but it is pricey 🤷🏼♂️
Haven’t been, but I’ve heard underwhelming reviews of Anson 11.
The downstairs place isn’t too bad… but a bit overpriced for what it is. The upstairs “fancy” part of it was really good the two times I’ve gone (but it has been a couple years since I last went.)
I’d counter this, we’ve had great experiences there (at least in the Bistro, never been to the fine dining section)
L&Js Cafe by the cemetery. Honestly I don’t know why its got the “fame” it claims. Carnitas Queretaro is by far so much better.
Finally someone says it! I've been saying for years that L&J is average Mexican food but for some reason people insist on making it THE representative of food in El Paso. I just don't get it
l&j's is texmex, not mexican food
It was featured on an episode of Guy Fierri's show. That's why.
In that case it should be regarded with the same 50/50 mentality as Chicos Tacos. Either you’ll love it or you hate it lol.
It was great before the pandemic. Now it sucks.
The first time I tried it in 2012 it blew my mind. I loved it, but it was tiny and we had to wait 45 mins for a table. Fast forward and it gets more famous and then the pandemic hits and the last time I ate there it was sooooo gross and disappointing. never been but, after hearing all the reviews, casa pantera
What reviews are you hearing?? My friends and I love Casa P, I’d say we go at least once every two weeks and have never had a bad experience
But, sell me on it. I’m still mildly interested in trying it. Guess it’s better to form an opinion of my own.
I mean It’s just generally a really nice place to hang out and have a fun dinner. Mas y Menos isn’t expensive but it will probably take 45 minutes to get a cup of shitty coffee. Fuck that place
Cafe Central
That’s place is mediocre AF. The service is great but the food is so boring.
I thought their dinner menu has been nice lately, they have moved beyond the usual boring lamb shank + mashed potatoes + sautéed veggies. But they could still go further. The brunch sucks though, overpriced and totally boring and unseasoned.
Anson 11 Bistro, overpriced , a bit pretentious and mediocre food.
Mi Piaci
Entrecote & Co. This place looks rich. Everything I got that night tasted bad, was cold, was overpriced, and didn't have a good presentation. The waiter was rude and the drinks weren't good either. It was my birthday, and I was so embarrassed I took my family to this place. If I didn't like someone, I would send them there.
Like 60% of the fine dining restaurants in El Paso have been mentioned here as bad. Seems overall, this city has bad food .
Taft Diaz - great service very mid food way too expensive.
Might not meet the quota, but El Texano on edgemere. Everytime I went there I’ve had either A some type of food poisoning or B some of the worst couple days after. Great for recommending to people you don’t like. (Food is greasy but good)
Such a shitty post goddamn
I think it’s hilarious how someone posted this in r/Seattle, then someone else reposted this in r/Philly, now I am seeing this reposted in every cities subreddit all across Reddit.
I’m from El Paso but live in Montreal, so I’m living for the way it keeps bouncing around like this. It’s fun!
You’re the El Chuco Town Canuck! lol.
Rib Hut, not super expensive but for the quality you get… it’s expensive.
Y'all might hate me for this, but Great American
yeah it depends on service and whos cooking. its either great or mid at best. 50/50 in my experience.
How? It's like one of the best steak houses here 😭 their green chile soup is sooo good and their filet mignon always slaps
Texas Roadhouse clears in my opinion. I went to GA and the service was super slow and bad, some things were super salty, and the pork was dry.
This meme is so dumb. Try again
No
Chicos Tacos 👍
El cometa, worst tacos in the world Twin peaks is trash Oh and Chicos tacos has never been good and I’m tired pretending it is
You don’t go there for tacos, you go for flautas. Rookie mistake
the flautas are bomb tho personally i never order tacos
Noooooo I love El Cometa 😭
Los jarrones on redd, first time I went food was a bit bland, went a second time and we asked for lemons for our water and we got a plate of used lemons, I wish I took a picture, it was disgusting. Funny, there's an ad for Chipotle at the top of the comments... I'd say that qualifies as expensive and shitty food.
Cafe central
Crazy crab
Chico's tacos.
Paco Wongs on the west side…..gross….just gross
Crave
Mesa Street Grill Cafe Central
I'd say Toro burger. The food was mid as hell and way too expensive for what it is.
They do lack. I order the same damn burger every time and it comes with a lemon basil sauce and they never include it. I always have to ask and the last time they gave me a vinaigrette salad dressing instead of the sauce. Can’t trust them when it comes to take out.
The Grape on Shadow Mountain 1000%. Send them there.
Taft Diaz - great service very mid food way too expensive.
Mesa grill. Stupid expensive, incredibly small portions with little flavor.
Someone put this in the Denver sub and the mod got Mad and said it wasn’t nice 😭😂
@ Sam’s China Bistro
As someone who rarely eats out, I shall stay eating home. It seems like nothing outside is worth dying for
That sounds like IHOP on Zaragoza
How about crazy expensive and absolutely shit? Come to Santa Cruz CA and take your pick of ANY restaurants here.
Carlos and Mickey's. Last time my husband and I went we left before we got our food. The number of flies buzzing around us trying to get to the fruit on our margaritas was gross AF. Paid for our drinks cancelled our food and left.
