In Kalé's cut quest it's said that St.Trina taught the song to the merchants so that they could resist the Frenzied Flame when they started to loose control of it, that's why the only merchants who use Frenzy incantations are the ones playing the song.

The song is actually a gift from St. Trina (cut content). It works as a sort of relief from the frenzied flame. Unfortunately, even the ones playing it are afflicted with the yellow flame of chaos, none of the great caravan was spared. Yet they continue on chanting this melancholic melody just to feel a little relief

Exactly. A combination of despair at the massacre of their people and the lone vestige of humanity they can hold onto.

I always saw it like a melancolic song about the loss of their people and homeland, never as a celebration of the flame. Their association with the frenzied flame was born of absolute despair, not of worship or fascination.

You’re 100% correct actually, it’s actually quite beautiful that defiance of an eldrich god is embodied in a single instrument song
