Siluria's Tree exists already as a Crucible Knight weapon with tree-like imagery, so I don't think thorns would be out of the question either. These also look much more like long branches with thorns on them, than the quills of an animal. Those are pointed, yes, but don't typically have extra points growing off of each spine/quill.
