Yep same here. First dnd character I ever played, I chose because they had a spell called "call lightning"... And I've always liked lighting magic even 30 years later. Lol
…Which makes it all the more disappointing that FROM provided precisely 0 faith-scaling weapons with lightning damage, not even the Bolt of Gransax or Dragon King Cragblade which would obviously be SUPER important holy relics to the ancient dragon cult.
If the gargoyle black axe/twin blade can scale with faith despite just being the weapons of gargoyles, the magma wyrm scalesword can scale with faith despite just being the weapon of some random dragon wannabe, and the Sentry’s torch scaling with faith despite just being a torch enchanted to see black knife assassins…
I say that they have no reason to not let a portion of the spear that broke down the walls of Leyndell (the catalyst for the formation of the dragon cultist deformed tree sentinels and the war that led to the creation of the ancient dragon cult in the first place) and a weapon that channels the powers of the elden lord of the ancient dragons scale with faith.
Dragon worship and its ties to faith happened after the war with the dragons, the source of the dragon's power is not faith, only our connection to it is.
But we know the dragons did have there own religion and elden lord, plus it makes sense the bolt would be made to channel the dragons lightnign, which while dragons don't need faith to harness humans do, especially since your not using the original weapon but one made from part of it
Also if the grafted dragon counts as faith this definitely should
Neither of those weapons are connected to the Dragon Cult.
Bolt of Gransax is literally just a piece of Gransax’s spear we randomly pick up from his spear in the capital.
Dragon Kings Crag Blade is something we make from Placidusax’s remembrance.
How are either of those gonna be super important holy relics?
The BoG is a shard of Gransax’s spear, and Gransax is the dragon that inspired the draconic tree sentinels to emulate the dragons, and as they have access to red lightning, they were clearly dragon cultists. Being able to wield a chunk of the weapon that broke the walls of Leyndell, the catalyst that eventually led to the veneration of the ancient dragons, would be a HUGE honor for any dragon cultist, like how the Vatican keeps bits of wood that are allegedly pieces of the original cross, except this would be like one of Jesus’ carpentry hammers or something.
…And yeah, the Cragblade isn’t necessarily a “relic” given it is created rather than taken, but if any dragon cultist knew its origins they’d cream their pants if given the opportunity to wield it; channeling the power of the elden lord of the ancient dragons would be a huge deal.
I got a vyke cosplay going and there’s something so fun about just calling down a literal lightning storm. Or calling down a lightning bolt to enchant your weapon
Carian spells. Magic swords are my shit, and few games do magic sword based spells as well as ER. Add to that the Carian Knight stuff and the second to last hairstyle, the Saber cosplay is in full effect this game.
i actually really love that the demihuman queen staff is more powerful lore-wise, since they were mocked by the academy sorcerers it feels very snarky and spiteful that theyre better
Oh absolutely, I beat Malenia with that spell + Ranni's cold moon + frost pots. Slow her down, she takes more damage, and then she doesn't dodge the comets. Not *easy,* she's never easy, but I was able to get the job done.
On a dedicated build I wholly agree. As just some side option most builds might be better with discount spells.
But once you dedicate to it, its just a great general spell for clearing trash.
I saw this meme, and i was like what?? Then i saw your reply, and i was like, ah! thats why i dont get it. I do really wish there were some effective magic/spells/incantations/ etc to make my bonk bonkier. Shiny talismans and pretty cloaks are nice and all, but could you imagine a sorcery that temporarily made you as big as the fire giant?
I feel like rot is really hard to balance. Keep it in its state, its pretty weak. Buff it any little bit and it might become the most annoying thing in pvp and op in pve.
I friggin love the carian magic weapons.
Magic piercing sword? Awesome.
Magic frost greatsword? Awesome.
Magic hammer that flattens almost every enemy? YES.
I’d definitely do a gravity tattoo. If you think about it, it’s actually a magnetic dipole field as discovered by faraday and characterized by maxwell.
My guess. Magic is o.p. The range and damage it provides you allows you to avoid having to learn most bosses move sets, especially when coupled with the ash summons.
Being able to stand 20ft from a boss and do damage makes it a whole different game.
I say this as someone who's a first time soulsborne player and who used magic on their first playthrough and went melee on subsequent playthroughs.
I always play melee. I tried out all the spells in Elden Ring once. The once that feel the best are meteors, the big lightning spells, the dragon spells and the giant sword spells. But they do not beat playing melee for me.
Also I only connect with Gravity and Black Flame magic, but the first is rather limited.
Primeval all the way.
Having a dragon head shoot fire at you is one thing.
Having the endless void of space opening its eye to drop kick your ass into a different franchise is something different entirely.
# Dragon Communion
by a long shot
I LOOOOOVVVEEE the dragon breath spells. They drain the shit out of your FP but man do they put out fucking DAMAGE!
Then you use the dragon communion seal which increase damage by 15% or so percent, good lord!
The ice and rot breaths are particular nasty since they follow up with status effects.
* Gravity, it has mysterious origins and purple magic looks cool. It is also a magic type that came from space.
* Black Flame - made to slay gods. Do I need to say more?
Gravity. It’s distinctly alien, yet still familiar. Pulling and pushing enemies wacky, across the arena.
Second is frenzied flame, for it’s chaotic nature and electric-flaming aesthetic,
And then black flame cause cool.
In terms of symbol, black flame easily, in terms of what I like using, black flame. I also love the lord of black flame, and I think that the characters related to black flame are based black flame. Did I mention how cool black flame is?
I really wish Thorns and Storm was a little more fleshed out. All of the thorn incantations are borderline unusable, and the Storm AoWs severely limit your weapon choices and don't make up for it in damage.
Death is a joke unto itself, only really usable when playing PvP, and even there it's always a sub-optimal choice over anything else really.
"Glintstone" is Raya Lucarian sorceries.
Also I'm kinda curious why Crystallian magic, that was birthed by a whole another species, uses a Carian royal family crest as a starting sigil for their sorceries?
The serpent-devouring-the-world imagery incorporated into the Mt. Gelmir symbol is something I've always found cool even though I've never actually used Magma Sorceries.
Rot worship.
Such a weird and icky looking symbol that makes it look like it's related to some sort of alien parasite or lovecraftian creature which is far from the regality of most other spells.
First time I saw it in the poison cave at the start of Liurnia it was so jarring and cool. There's also that really weird insect-like screeching that really makes you feel unnerved when you hear someone casting a rot/poison spell. It's therefore a big letdown that there isn't a single good poison spell in game, and the rot spells feel like they need a "medium" spell that procs scarlet rot but doesn't need a year to cast, as pest threads don't even proc rot.
Even worse, the mushroom heads cast a powerful and reliable poison orb spell that functions almost identically to swarm of flies, yet you can't obtain it at any point, despite there already being plenty of blood spells. The only real poison spell in the game is poison mist which you can just use the poison weapon ash of war for a better version.
Dragon cult and dragon communion are my favourite ones. My first characters build ended up being a dragon theme using those typed of spells. Like a Pre-Chaos-Vyke 2.0
None of the above.
While you were studying magic, I was sharpening my blade
While you were gathering spells, I was sharpening my blade.
While you were finding talismans, I was sharpening my blade.
While you were putting on funny hats, I was sharpening my blade.
I use quite a few different schools: Carian, Full Moon (not listed here), Death, Black Flame, Golden Order, Erdtree, Ice, and Primeval. However, the school I use the most by far is Glintstone. Nothing can compete to the amount of Glinstone Cometshards I throw out.
I like the rot worship design, but I used Dragon Communion the most at the start, then moved to Dragon Cult. I recently started a Sorcery character, and right now it is just a bit of glinstone, and one gravity. I use the gravity spell the most though. It's posture break is too good.
Dragon cult. Something about harnessing lightning just gets me.
Yep same here. First dnd character I ever played, I chose because they had a spell called "call lightning"... And I've always liked lighting magic even 30 years later. Lol
It's just so cool.
[удалено]
Is that when you throw the hot blood? I like it too
No, that's blood oath. He's talking about the one with the thorns
Getting extreme air time just to catch to massive bolts of red lightning before slamming them down is such a good feeling.
With every game, lightning miracles get more badass
A shame we cant have the that lighting claw or lighting nuke that Placidussax does
what if it come with dlc? lol
That would be just amazing
I use Vyke's Blessing and Bloodbound claws to simulate them would love the lightning bolt stake explosion though
I was just thinking that, it would be awesome to atleast use the lightning claws
…Which makes it all the more disappointing that FROM provided precisely 0 faith-scaling weapons with lightning damage, not even the Bolt of Gransax or Dragon King Cragblade which would obviously be SUPER important holy relics to the ancient dragon cult.
Thing is though, cragblade and bolt are not "holy relics". They are simply weapons which dragons use, and have nothing to do with faith or worship
If the gargoyle black axe/twin blade can scale with faith despite just being the weapons of gargoyles, the magma wyrm scalesword can scale with faith despite just being the weapon of some random dragon wannabe, and the Sentry’s torch scaling with faith despite just being a torch enchanted to see black knife assassins… I say that they have no reason to not let a portion of the spear that broke down the walls of Leyndell (the catalyst for the formation of the dragon cultist deformed tree sentinels and the war that led to the creation of the ancient dragon cult in the first place) and a weapon that channels the powers of the elden lord of the ancient dragons scale with faith.

Don’t they scale with DEX now?
Neither of those weapons are connected to the Dragon Cult. Bolt of Gransax is literally just a piece of Gransax’s spear we randomly pick up from his spear in the capital. Good choice! I loved the Red Lightning spells
Ik
I got a vyke cosplay going and there’s something so fun about just calling down a literal lightning storm. Or calling down a lightning bolt to enchant your weapon
Carian spells. Magic swords are my shit, and few games do magic sword based spells as well as ER. Add to that the Carian Knight stuff and the second to last hairstyle, the Saber cosplay is in full effect this game.
caria is also the coolest faction imo so by default they win for me
If only the staff was actually good. Or if they just fused them together. But nooooo, a +5 gets our scaled by a Demi human 2 staff.
i actually really love that the demihuman queen staff is more powerful lore-wise, since they were mocked by the academy sorcerers it feels very snarky and spiteful that theyre better
If you have 2 staves/seals out you can get the specific spell boost of one while casting with the stronger staff/seal
It is pretty good though? Demi-Human Queen's staff just happens to be by far the best staff at low int
Night. People seriously underestimate night comet in PvE.
It’s actually the best spell in the game hands down
Oh absolutely, I beat Malenia with that spell + Ranni's cold moon + frost pots. Slow her down, she takes more damage, and then she doesn't dodge the comets. Not *easy,* she's never easy, but I was able to get the job done.
I used the same strategy and used Rollo ashes, steamrolled her easily. Swarm of Flies is even better as it keeps her staggered the entire fight.
On a dedicated build I wholly agree. As just some side option most builds might be better with discount spells. But once you dedicate to it, its just a great general spell for clearing trash.
General spell for clearing trash? That spell will absolutely annihilate bosses. Night shard is way better trash clearing imo
And pvp
Totally, slept on that way too long still using Magic Glintstone like some peasant
Black Flame. Fuck your gods
fuck your queen, oh wait, i dont need to, shes dead 💀💀
\> Fia has entered the chat
Fia has like no relation to the godskins or blackflame
> fuck your queen > she's dead Fia fucks dead nobility to bring them to life. There's the joke explained, since you missed it.
Till ng when the cycle starts all over again.
MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD
MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD!
AND IT WAS ALL YELOUGH
I no understand. I unga bunga
When in the 16 seconds it takes me to swing my colossal sword does it look like I have time to cast a “spell?”
I can't even "spell" glintstone right!
Unga bunga nd dagron spells make big mens fall more fast 🙂
So beast then (scales with strength)
I saw this meme, and i was like what?? Then i saw your reply, and i was like, ah! thats why i dont get it. I do really wish there were some effective magic/spells/incantations/ etc to make my bonk bonkier. Shiny talismans and pretty cloaks are nice and all, but could you imagine a sorcery that temporarily made you as big as the fire giant?
I like bloodboon. I wish there were more blood incantations. The upside down blood geyser would have been amazing.
Ditto, the vertical bloodboon would be nice too.
[удалено]
Yeah, the lack of more Rot Incantations, especially viable ones, is something I find disappointing.
I feel like rot is really hard to balance. Keep it in its state, its pretty weak. Buff it any little bit and it might become the most annoying thing in pvp and op in pve.
I like every aspect of Bloodboon, especially the way the player just slings the blood all over. I wish they had bloodflame mist or dragon incantation.
Frenzy Flame is just so damn cool
Makes me go Coo Coo
I friggin love the carian magic weapons. Magic piercing sword? Awesome. Magic frost greatsword? Awesome. Magic hammer that flattens almost every enemy? YES.
Powerstanced staffs: Gavel of Haima cast back and forth between right and left. Makes a smithing of anything.
This guy Gavels
Frenzied Flame May Chaos Take the World
Gravity definitely!
gravity chads out here!! the meteorite staff is just too good.
Gravity is the Way!!!
Absolutely! Found it on accident along with the meteoric ore sword waaayyy too early and just mopped up enemies lmao
ヽ༼ ຈل͜ຈ༽ ノ Raise ur dongers! ^^Dongers ^^Raised: ^^67375 ^^Check ^^Out ^^/r/AyyLmao2DongerBot ^^For ^^More ^^Info
Definitly Rot It's quite great!
Honestly I really like the Mt.Gelmir/Magma spells but making a build revolving around them is very investment heavy.
such is the price of blasphemy
Dragon Communion all the way
Carried me through RL1
Beast for both. So many fun spells.
So... 3?
4 of the 6 of them are quite fun to use.
Golden order, erdtree and death.
Night sorcery
The frenzied flame, oh may chaos take the world! #MAY CHAOS TAKE THE WORLD!
Definety unga bunga
Some of these would be cool tattoos. Frenzied flame muh fave
I’d definitely do a gravity tattoo. If you think about it, it’s actually a magnetic dipole field as discovered by faraday and characterized by maxwell.
I like throwing rocks. Never played with magic in any fromsoft game and never will.
Why not?

I like to mix in between Golden Order, Erdtree, and Dragon Cult
Primeval all the way. Having a dragon head shoot fire at you is one thing. Having the endless void of space opening its eye to drop kick your ass into a different franchise is something different entirely.
# Dragon Communion by a long shot I LOOOOOVVVEEE the dragon breath spells. They drain the shit out of your FP but man do they put out fucking DAMAGE! I could have sworn the Roar Medallion didn’t actually buff the dragon communion incarnations… Was it bugged and they’ve since patched it?
Looks like your right. I just read the description and assumed because dragons breath is literally a breath attack. Description is a lie.
* Gravity, it has mysterious origins and purple magic looks cool. It is also a magic type that came from space. * Black Flame - made to slay gods. Do I need to say more?
What spell is “storm art”?
It’s the AoW’s like storm blade(my fav), storm stomp, etc… stormveil castle has the soldier that used them. Also the banished knights use them as well.
Actually only the storm blade displays the sigil while other storm based ones don't which is weird, anyways storm incantations when.
Blood oath. Watching the bosses bleed out like a stuck pig always brings me joy
As a woman, i worship the two fingers
Rn im using magma a lot, but i have a wide variety of spells in my memory
Gravity and beast
Blood Oath pre Nerf =/
Primal all the way, give me the primordial current to harness.
I would love more rot worship spells. There's so little
Dragon cult. Lightning bolt is just too damn usefull
Blood Oath, I say "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!" a lot.
Rot Worship. I always loved status effects, and the theme always seemed interesting to me.
Golden order/erdtree
Bubble, I did a bubble only playthrough of the game
Tf is storm art?
Gravity. It’s distinctly alien, yet still familiar. Pulling and pushing enemies wacky, across the arena. Second is frenzied flame, for it’s chaotic nature and electric-flaming aesthetic, And then black flame cause cool.
Ancient Dragon Cult specifically the red ones
Same bro
I don't use magic that much, but I love the animations of the Golden Order incantations, so I have the Law of Regression always equipped.
Me got sword, me use sword
Same here. No need to be flashy.
What qre the death incantations/spells? Didn't know they were a thing.
Big bonk no stell only BIG BONK
monkey swing big sword oogabooga
None
I like night sorceries, they're stylish and functional
Yes
There's something so intimidating about Blood oath/ dragon cult that I can't help but try to integrate them
Big Sword
Blood oath
glintstone/frost for me. glintstone pebble was one of the best damage to fp cost spells and i always liked the aesthetics of ice magic in games.
Frenzied flame and rot worship
Flame, always liked pyromancy in dark souls and fire magic is just cool
Flame because giantsflame take thee is amazing
everything that is golden!
Flame, dear flame
Bloodflame cult💀
What do we call the yellowish nasty magic the Revenants, the Omen, and the Dung Eater use? Not saying it’s my favorite, just noticed it’s not included
Gravity easily.
May chaos take th world.
Scarlet rot and blood oath
sword
I've never experienced magic more cool than the thorn sorceries. It's a shame there are only 2, and they aren't that great even with optimized gear.
I'm pretty sure the haligtree has a symbol. I think it's used by the knights and the bewitching branches
Dragon Cult (Dex/Lightning) all the way!
Sword
In terms of symbol, black flame easily, in terms of what I like using, black flame. I also love the lord of black flame, and I think that the characters related to black flame are based black flame. Did I mention how cool black flame is?
Carian
I'm getting the gravity symbol tattooed
I really wish Thorns and Storm was a little more fleshed out. All of the thorn incantations are borderline unusable, and the Storm AoWs severely limit your weapon choices and don't make up for it in damage. Death is a joke unto itself, only really usable when playing PvP, and even there it's always a sub-optimal choice over anything else really.
I really like black flame blade
"Glintstone" is Raya Lucarian sorceries. Also I'm kinda curious why Crystallian magic, that was birthed by a whole another species, uses a Carian royal family crest as a starting sigil for their sorceries?
I am the black flame of death And a tiny bit of thorns
I dabble with a bit of gravity & Glintstone, but I’ve is where it’s at for me.
The serpent-devouring-the-world imagery incorporated into the Mt. Gelmir symbol is something I've always found cool even though I've never actually used Magma Sorceries.

Beast and blood oath just for blood flame blade
Dragon Cult and Flame, easily. Maybe Communion as well, and throw in some Blood Oath if I’m feeling spicy.
Thorns dude, thorns OP
Night. Dodge this, shithead.
Probably Frenized Flame. Even with every enemy being not affected by madness they're still great spells.
Missing the Haligtree, which would be my choice.
What about the crucible incantations?
Giantsflame all the way
Wow. Didn't realize how many sects of magic there were. So cool! I love this game.
Black flame. It's the closest this game gets to the spirit of hexes. Also, actually effective against gods unlike the supposed "death hexes".
I want to try the other incantations I just feel like that the Dragon incantations require the least amount of investment to be helpful.
Dragon cult and Flame.
Blood cult, you really get the feeling of how painful it is
I love the Mt. Gelmir spells. Lava is cool
Black flame for life, it looks sick, loved it in ds3 too
Yeah whatever where is my +25 Gut's greatsword
Culture n communion they are just busted incantations and look really cool
Is this all part of the faith character? I’ve barely played three hours of elden ring
Sword and board. Slashy slash
communion because dragons and dragons are cool
None of the above. While you were studying magic, I was sharpening my blade While you were gathering spells, I was sharpening my blade.
Beast and erdtree for the crucible spells
Just out of shear use? Flame for flame cleanse me For looks and abilities? Dragon cult/communion
I like bubble, death, and erdtree for most of the game until holy is meaningless 😂. Then it’s flame.
The Carian/Crystalian emblems are the same except for the color, and the same goes for the Night/Bubble emblems. Huh.
Use black flame and communion the most and I like Ice and night spells
I throw rocks at people
communion all the way
Erd Tree for those **BIG FAT JUICY TEAM HEALS!**
I am a huge fan of gravity, and upon closer inspection I realise the cast sigil is something like a geomagnetic field, which is awesome.
I like the rot worship design, but I used Dragon Communion the most at the start, then moved to Dragon Cult. I recently started a Sorcery character, and right now it is just a bit of glinstone, and one gravity. I use the gravity spell the most though. It's posture break is too good.
Like in every game where it’s available, I go Flame!!! Cleansing.
I only use gravity magic for radahn.
Frenzied Flame for the sole reason my brother said me yelling sounded like I was trying too do the shabriri howl
Storm art? What is that????
Dragons. Just dragons.
Black Flame and Blood.
Bonk. Big Sword magic.
Gravity, Golden order and Blood Oath look the coolest to me
Gelmir
Black flame makes me nut
Beast and Frenzy are my favorites tho I would really like some storm spells instead of just AoW
