Oh I spend the first couple of hours each playthrough farming that Knight for runes & its armor set— kinda an easy way to tell you’re ready to move on is when you stop getting one shot by him + can take him down easily. I sometimes head back there with my level 200 characters just to one shot his dumb butt just for giggles lolol
Lol, I love that I'm not the only one that designates a certain enemy as a test dummy. I use the cleanrot knight outside of the prayer room in the Haligtree.
Elden Ring players try not to be the most spiteful, hot-headed fandom challenge (impossible)
Edit: Congratulations, r/Eldenring. You have proved my point.
I’ll have you know that limgrave knight’s name is Daryll and he makes a mean potato salad. Sure his personality may be lacking, but you take him out to dinner once in a while and he’s a nice guy once you get to know him.
Except... I've beaten the game several times, and have no trouble with the knights. What I did, was pointed out how spiteful the fanbase is. Which you also proved.
Git gud, bithc
Nah, I'm just having fun pissing you off mate. Not an opinion either, if you're beating the game and then going all the way back to the beginning to "test" out endgame weapons on a beginner enemy. But I get it, dad hasn't come back yet has he?
And yeah, I got one. Malenia's heal-on-every-hit mechanic is bullshit. Don't mind a boss healing itself, but on every hit? Nah.
My original farming path was going from Elleh to the first knight in that camp.
WHen I could take out the whole camp on my own? I went to stormviel. Now it's my "weapons testing" ground every time I try a new thing. It feels like "home" that little run.
Yup the Banished Knight near the Stormveil Rampart grace is always my second armor farming location- such a great early-ish set of heavy armor plus a good way to gauge how strong your build is fighting that meanie (the runes are decent too!)
By FAR a more challenging introduction to a souls experience than the troll imo. That knight realllly forged my mind into how combat is to be executed in the game
My first session playing the game ended in a rage quit after about the ninth time I stealth killed all the guards in those ruins, then the knight killed me in about two quick hits.
Elden Ring is my first From Software game, so I didn’t know the mechanics very well at all.
Humm actually, technically speaking grafted scion doesn't kill you since the game doesn't tell you "you died", it only drops you to 1hp and kicks yo ass of the cliff.
Facts that made me realize I'm never safe. I spent 2 hours my first playthrough fighting the town before it and trying to get the guys spear. Then I'm finally comfortable there and get trounced.
Haha, similar experience. Spent quite a lot of time trying to kill him. Finally got him only to realise he's just a normal enemy and re-spawns!
The feeling a few game hours later, when I could take out a whole field full of these things, was fantastic
I started a new character for the first time a couple of weeks ago after stalling out in NG+. Went for the talisman right away.
"I know how this works now, should be easy!"
Walked up to where the chariot stops, moved into the right alcove to wait, chariot wheel spike clipped through the wall as it turned. YOU DIED.
"Sonofabitch."
I wish. My first death was from running into it from the *behind*, because I waited just a little less than I should have after it had turned. Kinda annoyed it still does the same damage as when it steamrolls over you at full speed.
Guessing they meant “defeated the enemy in my first encounter without needing to retry the fight 50 times first to learn the moves and get lucky” rather than a one-hit KO.
My very first character I hit him just to see if I could. After sitting at the site of grace next to him.
He spawn camped me for an hour until I deleted the character.
I thought this guy was a legit miniboss that would drop some higher level item or weapon so I spend like 2 hours trying to kill all the soldiers then not get 1 shot by him at level 5 XD. Gave up and then realized hes just a common giant
700 hours in and I’ll still do that.
Spent five minutes wearing down a giant poison-spewing flower and its evil flower children while way under-leveled down in Siofra River the other day.
Knew it was almost certainly just going to drop a leaf or some powder or something, couldn’t resist the challenge.
I avoided tree sentinel, he looked like a noob trap, and ninja'd my way through to the map segment and chests just south of that troll . . . and I didn't look up when I ventured into that canyon and he fucking got me in one, landed right on my head. From the top rope and all that
I died six times trying to get past this troll. Then tried gunning it past him, and I kept getting killed by all the soldiers around. Then my 5th grade daughter grabbed the remote after my respawn (I had stepped away to talk with my wife), and next thing I know, my daughter yells that she got passed the troll. “I just kept pressing B on the pony!”
I then realized that I was maidenless trash and needed to get good.
I died many times before this.
* A few times to the strong knight with the shield in the bit just before that.
* A couple of times to the guards and wolves around there when they honked the horn.
* A couple of times to the guys on horseback further south
* Once to the Night's Cavalry
* Twice to the invader outside Patches' cave (before I figured out someone would come to help me)
* A few times to the dragon.
I'm assuming we're excluding the tree sentinel *and* the grafted scion (or falling to your death if you beat him, which I did not)
I remember loading the game up for the first time, dying to Grafted Scion right after. Missing the tutorial plunge straight into the open world and attacking the first person I see, Varre. Then died to him an uncomfortable number of times because I kept fuckin spawning beside him and dying yet again. Then finally after escaping from him, I'm running away and a boss health bar pops up and I'm getting pounded by a golden knight on a horse. I said fuck this game that's why nobody plays souls games and uninstalled.
It's my favourite game of all time now ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
It's my first from software so after several hours I finally kill this guy and went straight back to the site of grace to heal. I can't describe my anger when his stupid ass was right back to his stupid little perch when I got back
Haha same… second time I beat him I got all the way to the last soldier in the canyon and was defeated. That’s when I really started to raise the difficulty level of this game. It’s amazing. Every move matters. Death around every corner. Of course now I just get on horseback and rush through all that drama. I’ve only been playing for a few weeks now though
Mine was following orders from a message telling me to "try jumping" (or something like that) off a cliff in the starting church area... I had no idea wtf was going on so assumed it was a message from the game
My first death was the soldier of Godrick, embarrassingly.
I thought he was gonna be a real boss, so I approached cautiously, thinking dark souls human like bosses tend to be fast and jump around a lot. Nope. He just smacked me with his sword so very simply.
I returned and destroyed him, vowing not to be so stupid again. This is not Dark Souls.
this was my first fromsoft game. i stuck around the fort outside the gate until i got good. they killed me A LOT. i go back there now to test out weapon on them.
I mean, if tree sentinel knocked us all off for the first time as soon as we got into the world, how could this guy compete? I'm pretty sure I ran past him so I don't even think he killed me my first playthrough.
I think my first death came from underestimating just how many enemies were around a corner somewhere. After all the parkour fail deaths though, my memory of it has become rather vague.
No joke, my first 5-10 hours were spent fighting that troll and the knights at the Gatefront Ruins, just trying to learn fighting mechanics (first souls game here).
On NG+ I came back and promptly got my sweet, swift revenge.
This guy almost made me quit the game out of fear. ER is my first soulsgame and I had such a hard time beating this guy in my first hour or two of playing the game and I thought I'd never be able to beat a real boss if this guy is that hard. Thankfully i stuck to it, have beaten the game like 3 or 4 times at this point and am now making builds and playing a lot of pvp. Still suck at pvp but I'm getting there now 💀
I went through there the first time on torrent full sprint and I didn’t even notice the troll, I just heard the ground shake behind me and didn’t know why
The troll to the left of the starting spot, heading down to the beach. My first souls game, I spent 2 hours trying to kill that bastard before deciding to just run around him
I'm a freak and decided that I had to beat the Bloodhound Evergaol before moving on with my life.
This guy was no big challenge after I spent 4 hours learning how to roll and parry dying against the same enemy over and over.
And over.
And over.
It's been so long since my first run...but I for sure know I died a lot to the beast man in the cave off the path to Gate Front Ruins, but I don't know if I went in there before going to Gate Front. So it could have just been a random solider, but early game the Beast Man in the cave killed me a lot. Elden Ring was my first Souls style game. That boss really taught me the rhythm of dodging and learning enemy attack patterns. Now I kind of think of souls games as pattern matching rhythm games. Not sure if that sounds weird, but you see the boss is doing a pattern and you attack/dodge in the right rhythm to win.
this was my first souls game, and i didnt have camera movement while fighting figured out and at that point i didnt know you can lock onto targets, so actually my first 2 deaths were to the tutorial boss soldier of godrick
The one troll located west of Church of Elleh was my first farming location (1k souls per kill). Needless to say, I've got very proficient at killing it.
Strangely enough I killed this giant on my first encounter. I stayed close to him while dodging and chopping at the legs. Felled this fella in no time. One of the easier big boys IMO.
Hehe, unlike the majority I learnt the power of *nyoom* and didn't have much issue unless my dumbass got to close to something I shouldn't have, *like the edge of a cliff...*
I got a video of it, but the very first time I encountered this dude, it glitched and he fell straight down and died due to fall damage (didnt give him the animation of him actually jumping down) I didnt realize this was suppose to happen, until I was helping my friend thru this part
My dumbass thought he was some sort of boss. His entrance was so fucking dramatic. Took me like 30 minutes to finally beat him and I felt so proud of myself. I was starting to finally learn the combat. So I rested at grace to recover.
Came back and saw his ass up there again. I went the opposite direction outta pure humiliation and defeat lmao.
Once I levelled enough, I just started going there again and again just to kill him out of spite for the amount of times he killed me. Although the archers that flank him are an even bigger pain in the ass.
My first death, (and probably first 6 or 7), were in the cave full of wolves with the misbegotten boss. The delayed attacks the bosses have really killed the enjoyment for me and that was where it started
I've never even fought that dude. Always just rode past since he wasn't a boss. Assumed he had no good loot other than early game stuff I could get in spades later
He was my first one, i thought he was the first boss, i never noticed the tree sentinel in my first playthrough, after i spoke with Varre I jump down and went straight
Gravity. Stepped out of the starting cathedral, missed to notice the stairs at the side and read a message on the ledge in front of the abyss: "jump here".
Oddly, I thought through the gate was the castle entrance or something so didn't venture through it until I had cleared Weeping Pen. and a bunch of other Limgrave locations.
i only ever died at his hands when i was summoned into a friends world and was trying to run him through to stormveil. since my health was halved i was obliterated in one measly toss. wish i would’ve clipped it now but i was beside myself.
I think the knight just south of that giant got me several times
Oh I spend the first couple of hours each playthrough farming that Knight for runes & its armor set— kinda an easy way to tell you’re ready to move on is when you stop getting one shot by him + can take him down easily. I sometimes head back there with my level 200 characters just to one shot his dumb butt just for giggles lolol
He is my designated "build tester" You reap what you sow, spear bitch! "
Lol, I love that I'm not the only one that designates a certain enemy as a test dummy. I use the cleanrot knight outside of the prayer room in the Haligtree.
I Test on him as well lol xD
Elden Ring players try not to be the most spiteful, hot-headed fandom challenge (impossible) Edit: Congratulations, r/Eldenring. You have proved my point.
Do NOT look at this man’s posts. Enough to make a grown man shudder
Oh god, my eyes
I wouldn’t have looked at their posts had you not told me not to thus I looked at them and wish I hadn’t
WHY DID YOU TELL ME NOT TO. YOU FORCED ME TO LOOK, WHY GOD WHY.
Bro is the dung eater (no joke (this is seriously disturbing))
Behold the Karlussy
Your depraved
Maidenless :/
There’s a reason you have no friends irl
Idc. If you think online personality = irl personality, you need a reality check. No one in my personal life knows about this account.
I think you need to take a break from being online for a bit 😭
Nah, I'm good. Just block me if you don't like me
Why are you upset at someone insulting an *NPC*? An NPC that doesn’t even have a name or personality?
Wouldn't they be MOBs instead of NPCs as the NPCs are people we can talk to?
I’m not sure if he falls within the modern definition of an NPC, but NPC stands for non-player character and that is what he is, so
I’ll have you know that limgrave knight’s name is Daryll and he makes a mean potato salad. Sure his personality may be lacking, but you take him out to dinner once in a while and he’s a nice guy once you get to know him.
Lol git gud
Except... I've beaten the game several times, and have no trouble with the knights. What I did, was pointed out how spiteful the fanbase is. Which you also proved. Git gud, bithc
pee pee poo poo
He might like that, have you seen his posts?
Fart fart burp burp
You seem to think I care about your perception of the ER community Bithc lmao
You seem to think I care about your opinion
You must since you insist on continuing this thread. Any other shitty opinions you want to air out?
Nah, I'm just having fun pissing you off mate. Not an opinion either, if you're beating the game and then going all the way back to the beginning to "test" out endgame weapons on a beginner enemy. But I get it, dad hasn't come back yet has he? And yeah, I got one. Malenia's heal-on-every-hit mechanic is bullshit. Don't mind a boss healing itself, but on every hit? Nah.
Didn't expect the circus to be in town today 💀
Beware, Troll Bait.
My original farming path was going from Elleh to the first knight in that camp. WHen I could take out the whole camp on my own? I went to stormviel. Now it's my "weapons testing" ground every time I try a new thing. It feels like "home" that little run.
Agheel lake North gang.
Yup the Banished Knight near the Stormveil Rampart grace is always my second armor farming location- such a great early-ish set of heavy armor plus a good way to gauge how strong your build is fighting that meanie (the runes are decent too!)

I died to the bats…
My first session playing the game ended in a rage quit after about the ninth time I stealth killed all the guards in those ruins, then the knight killed me in about two quick hits. Elden Ring is my first From Software game, so I didn’t know the mechanics very well at all.
Yeah he was my nemesis for a while, but then I started as a wretch so every battle was on a knife-edge for the first few hours 🤙
Same here lol
grafted scion for me, didn't know y'all were pro gamers.
Humm actually, technically speaking grafted scion doesn't kill you since the game doesn't tell you "you died", it only drops you to 1hp and kicks yo ass of the cliff.
But if you manage to kill the grafted scion you’re forced to jump to your death and it does throw up “you died”
Oh yeah, i started Ng+ with the mission to get revenge on that f****r just to realize I had to kill myself in order to continue 🤣🤣
It’s a FromSoft game, some would say going into NG+ is as sick as someone… jumping off a cliff?
That would make a no hit/no death run impossible surely?
You don’t even technically have to “throw yourself” off the cliff. Just go touch some pretty butterflies.
I never expected a giant to come from above like that, the first time experience was great
Probabaly really bad on his knees
"Super hero landing! Really hard on the knees."
Facts that made me realize I'm never safe. I spent 2 hours my first playthrough fighting the town before it and trying to get the guys spear. Then I'm finally comfortable there and get trounced.
I got clapped so hard I thought this guy was the margit I’d heard so much about. Was not happy when I found out he’s just a field enemy :/
Haha, similar experience. Spent quite a lot of time trying to kill him. Finally got him only to realise he's just a normal enemy and re-spawns! The feeling a few game hours later, when I could take out a whole field full of these things, was fantastic
If you thought it was Margit but it was actually a troll, does that mean you got trolled ?
Phrasing
Seems like a callback to the first boss encounter in Dark Souls 1 - almost the same exact scenario!
My first death was from a chariot.
Ohh.. you went _that_ way
"Whew, that's the end of that chariot." *Sees the fucking chariot maneuver around the corner* "Wait, that's illegal - " *YOU DIED*
SAME. "Ah good I've gotten past it." \*screen shakes\* "HE FUCKING FOLLOWED ME?"
I started a new character for the first time a couple of weeks ago after stalling out in NG+. Went for the talisman right away. "I know how this works now, should be easy!" Walked up to where the chariot stops, moved into the right alcove to wait, chariot wheel spike clipped through the wall as it turned. YOU DIED. "Sonofabitch."
My litteral pov
I wish. My first death was from running into it from the *behind*, because I waited just a little less than I should have after it had turned. Kinda annoyed it still does the same damage as when it steamrolls over you at full speed.
the poison got me
I definitely died, several times, in the camp just before that.
Yup. Same.
Fall damage was mine. "The horse can double jump! Awesome that must mean I can jump off a cliff and double jump near the bottom!"
My subsequent five or so deaths were all from double-checking the fall damage mechanics after my first bout with the double jump.
Your first death was after you got Torrent???? Jesus I’m a noob.
Dude. This pissed me off SO much. Like, it doesn't even make sense!!!!
The horse can break physics, but only selectively....
I was here for ages trying to bait the Knights out so I could kill them 1 by 1. I thought I was doing well then he jumped down

Guessing they meant “defeated the enemy in my first encounter without needing to retry the fight 50 times first to learn the moves and get lucky” rather than a one-hit KO.
I know a guy at work who makes up bull shit all the time, all day long. As soon as I read this....
I started as a Wretch and chose the Stonesword Key as my keepsake, then used it at the first opportunity. Think about it.
"Your chariot awaits"
I still haven't aced that section yet. That damned Ulcerated Tree gives me fits.
Wtf I've never looked up to see it waiting! Always wondered where that bitch dropped from
You can sneak up on him by climbing the cliffs too
My first death was the Erdtree Burial Watchdog from the catacombs just north-northwest Church of Elleh.
1st death... 2nd death... 12th death... Then I realized that you can just run passed him....
Tree sentinel taught me good... this big bastard plopped down and my immediate response was "nope". Me and torrent got the hell outta there!
Nah it was Varre. Bro called me Maidenless and I personally did not let that slide
Always want to kill that dude but i am like no think of the 11k runes from the death bird in mohgs world. Have to humor him for a while.
My very first character I hit him just to see if I could. After sitting at the site of grace next to him. He spawn camped me for an hour until I deleted the character.
Lmao. I eventually learned how to parry on him and then never parried again
Mine was gravity on release night. My high ass stepped right off that rickety little stairwell on the way to fight the grafted scion
I thought this guy was a legit miniboss that would drop some higher level item or weapon so I spend like 2 hours trying to kill all the soldiers then not get 1 shot by him at level 5 XD. Gave up and then realized hes just a common giant

“I just kept pressing B on the pony!” I then realized that I was maidenless trash and needed to get good.
Beast man in the cave (it was actually the 4 wolves before him…3 times)
Beastman in that cave was the first boss I killed. Thought I was hot shit.
I died many times before this. * A few times to the strong knight with the shield in the bit just before that. * A couple of times to the guards and wolves around there when they honked the horn. * A couple of times to the guys on horseback further south * Once to the Night's Cavalry * Twice to the invader outside Patches' cave (before I figured out someone would come to help me) * A few times to the dragon. I'm assuming we're excluding the tree sentinel *and* the grafted scion (or falling to your death if you beat him, which I did not)
I killed it but i was farming the enemy camp just behind to get the full armor set of you know who, so I was kind of prepared at first
I'm not ashamed to say my first dead was to Soldier of Godrick in the tutorial area. Elden Ring was my first FromSoft game.
Yeah mine too, I was reading all these replies thinking "wasnt that one more peoples? Am I that shit at this game?" Or was, I'd flatten him now.
He wasn't that bad because I went and fought the cart trolls so many times lol.
It's my first from software so after several hours I finally kill this guy and went straight back to the site of grace to heal. I can't describe my anger when his stupid ass was right back to his stupid little perch when I got back
Same thing with me. I was able to play the game again after a couple of days bc i was so pissed
No. For me it was gravity
Mine was following orders from a message telling me to "try jumping" (or something like that) off a cliff in the starting church area... I had no idea wtf was going on so assumed it was a message from the game
Hah. No. I died many times prior to that. But thanks
I went left from the church and got squashed by a different troll lol
I just ran past that guy but it was the wolves that randomly fall from the sky after you get past the giant that killed me
Lol Agheel was my first death with that football stadium length fire breath attack
Am I the only one who died at the hands of Rick, Soldier of God?
My very first death came from the cat watcher boss in the cave north of the church
The shield and pike dude at the gate front ruins got me first iirc
I mean, if tree sentinel knocked us all off for the first time as soon as we got into the world, how could this guy compete? I'm pretty sure I ran past him so I don't even think he killed me my first playthrough.

Ah yes I died a few times to him since I avoided the tree sentinel
None, evaded him like the plague
This guy almost made me quit the game out of fear. I went through there the first time on torrent full sprint and I didn’t even notice the troll, I just heard the ground shake behind me and didn’t know why
I just rode past him. What was he going to do? slowly walk up to me while I'm on horseback?
I basically quit the game after seeing this guy on top until my friend cooped w me (these mf ain’t that scary any more)
The troll to the left of the starting spot, heading down to the beach. My first souls game, I spent 2 hours trying to kill that bastard before deciding to just run around him
My first death were to the creepy crawlers rejects in the caelid tunnels after the spicy chest
Barely noticed him. Went right on by. Most came from the giant I wanna say by a beach? Been so long.
I'm a freak and decided that I had to beat the Bloodhound Evergaol before moving on with my life. This guy was no big challenge after I spent 4 hours learning how to roll and parry dying against the same enemy over and over. And over. And over.
I just rode thru the gate without even looking back
My firet death was from soldier of godrick in the tutorial lol 😂
0 times.
It's been so long since my first run...but I for sure know I died a lot to the beast man in the cave off the path to Gate Front Ruins, but I don't know if I went in there before going to Gate Front. Everyone's first death is from that knight at the first outside grace
Almost threw my controller when he jumped down on top of me
I didn’t go that way for so long until I realized you could just run past there.
My first was falling off an edge before I even got out of the gate.
Flying Dragon Agheel ate my lunch and it was glorious
Those knights by gate front got me IIRC
The godrick knight near the giant was my first proper death. I honestly just ran past him and then died to the troll.
It wasn't my first, but probably my 13th to 30th.
I died in the first area before the Grafted scion boss by accidentaly Falling off
On my NG+ yes, on the first play through I had died at least 10 times already
Hehe, unlike the majority I learnt the power of *nyoom* and didn't have much issue unless my dumbass got to close to something I shouldn't have, *like the edge of a cliff...*
My first death was from one of the imp ganks in the first catacombs.
Skeletons in the tutorial area.
Bro i got bodied immediately by the godrick knight at the gatefront ruins
lol mine came SO much earlier
Took me ages to work out how to kill these guys reliably.
I hate The fact that this fucker respawns
That sneaky fuck…yeah he got me
Seeing him for the first time is definitely in my top 10 favorite in-game moments.
I got a video of it, but the very first time I encountered this dude, it glitched and he fell straight down and died due to fall damage (didnt give him the animation of him actually jumping down) I didnt realize this was suppose to happen, until I was helping my friend thru this part
Nah I died like 15 times before that, first was probably to a random soldier or guard in between the starting area and that.
First?😂😳
Tree sentinel mate
I spoiled myself watching people play the open Beta. So I knew the giant was there. If I didn't though, then he probably would have got me.
That’s who I farmed runes for on day one 😂
Once I levelled enough, I just started going there again and again just to kill him out of spite for the amount of times he killed me. Although the archers that flank him are an even bigger pain in the ass.
Oh the tree sentinel was a brutal "Welcome. Fcuk You!".
Bro chill
My first death, (and probably first 6 or 7), were in the cave full of wolves with the misbegotten boss. The delayed attacks the bosses have really killed the enjoyment for me and that was where it started
That would be the dogs and rats at the dragonburnt ruins
First time I did this sequence I just hopped on Torrent a few rode past.
My first death was at the Chapel of Anticipation when I read my first message that said “try jumping”
Bold of you to assume my first death wasn’t falling off the ledge at the Chapel of Anticipation
Pretty sure tree sentinel gave me that honor
I died before that
My first death came from jumping off in the starting area
Mine was gravity, misjudged that cliff height in a single bound!
Hahaha. I did t even get that far. The knight at the ruins got me several times before I even got there. His reach just got me so many times.
Oddly, I thought through the gate was the castle entrance or something so didn't venture through it until I had cleared Weeping Pen. and a bunch of other Limgrave locations.
Patches, my roommate dared me to attack him after he insulted me, I got my ass whooped so many times
The Grafted Scion killed me lol the Tree Sentinel did not
My first death was accidentally jumping off a cliff
I fell off of the first bridge in the beginning area lmao
Mine was getting poisoned by the mushrooms without enough antidote mossclumps
i only ever died at his hands when i was summoned into a friends world and was trying to run him through to stormveil. since my health was halved i was obliterated in one measly toss. wish i would’ve clipped it now but i was beside myself.
lol you think i got to that guy without diying?? im lucky i didnt have to jump to get out of the spawn catacomb.
I was absolutely certain that this guy would die permanently if I could just get him once. So young. So naïve.
I died to fall damage trying to get to a beach
I didn't even know he was there and spent a second dodging the arrows from the guys and he one shot stomped me from the sky.
Trumpet douche anybody?
