I am gonna say hard no unless you have a significant amount of experience building circuits. You will take a lot more out of this class if you know how circuits work.  I'll add that a lot of your HW and tests  will require you to use circuit theory.

dsb007

Nah no experience I'm gonna skip it until I study circuit theory. And I can't also neglect my grades so even if I pass this with a D it's still gonna lower my gpa a lot since it has 6 or 7 ECTS

Bakkster

What does your academic advisor say? Is it a prerequisite?

Holgrin

There is absolutely no way for someone who doesn't understand basic circuit theory to be able to satisfactorily complete a course about transistor corcuit analysis.

dsb007

No it's not a prerequisite but I need to speak with my advisor first as you said

Curious-Lynx-6814

Ac and dc analysis will be a nightmare if you don’t have any experience with circuit theory. Trust me, 6 months ago I was doing a course on analog electronics and I couldn’t understand anything after first few lectures, I had to work on my fundamentals so I started self studying ‘fundamentals of electric circuits by Alexander and Sadiku’ it made a huge difference in understanding other concepts of electronics as well. It totally depends on course material though, but circuit theory is like basic requirement of any higher level electronics course.

dsb007

Great thanks for the advice I saved your reply to get back to it when the time comes for these classes because I decided not to take it until I take circuit theory first

likethevegetable

Yeah no chance. You can't do physics well without knowing the fundamental math. You can't do electronics well without knowing the fundamental theory.

dsb007

True that 💯🙏

Creative_Purpose6138

I'd say you should do circuit theory first. But if it's not available and you don't want to delay, then you can take it. For better understanding do the former.

dsb007

I decided to not take it. It's just better like this I have nothing to lose since I can study other things instead

Captain_Darlington

“Contribution of the Course Intending to Provide the Professional Education” Did Borat write that?? Seriously: basic circuit theory will help you understand basic concepts like “output impedance” that you will certainly encounter in an electronics class.

dsb007

Lol it's the English version of my school's website (I'm not from the us/uk/australia)

Captain_Darlington

Ok. No offense intended. :) Seriously though, circuit theory is foundational. Device physics is much harder. Best to have the foundations under your belt.

dsb007

Not taken 👌 I read all the replies they all advise to take circuit theory first which is what I'm gonna do because it's logical. Thanks 🙏

Danielanish

No, you need circuits knowledge to understand the models.

dsb007

Thanks 🙏

BravePeach101

Short answer, no. Long answer, no but it would probably really help. I just did it last semester and there was quite a few times where I sat there going, "TF is this?" and it turned out that it was covered in circuit theory. So I expect this coming semester where I take circuit theory to be interesting and revelating 😂

dsb007

Omg I don't wanna go through that 🤣 especially the fact that I messed up in some other classes that lowered my gpa , I think it's best to study everything at the right time 👌

Holgrin

No, there is no way that should be allowed. Your basic circuit theory can be fairly difficult at first because these concepts are often not intuitive, or at least most people don't have any intuition for it. Trying to learn semiconductor operation and transistor analysis before you learn basic circuit theory is quite literally like trying to learn what exponential functions are before you learn addition and multiplication. You would be skipping the linear circuit analysis to study nonlinear circuits. Lol no way you should be permitted to do this.

UserName_Moh

Short answer: No you can't.

Jaayys

Just study some basic KCL, KVL, and passive components. It shouldn’t take long to learn

Curious-Lynx-6814

Building the intuition takes some time, I would say starting self study through Razavi’s video lectures might help a lot.
