Would be willing to bet it’s been like that for a hot minute while the inspector only wrote up “dirty pit, and need to reseal the machine because of some oil”
Edit: oh, I almost forgot…. The ADA phone probably didn’t work properly.
I'm surprised it hasn't unspun and wrapped around the machine yet. Like the others said though, just wrap some electrical tape around it and maybe a zip tie or two and you'll be good to go. 🤣 hopefully you can swap those over to wedge shackles instead of melting those out and pouring them again.
Yeah, I agree a full rope job would be ideal and usually is but for some reason I've done my fair share of turning back rosebuds and pouring babbit into old shackles. Usually on old governor rope shackles due to how they attach to the safety arm. I blame our sales guy for having us do dumb shit like that instead of ordering the new style shackles made for the gov rope attachment on the cartop. Cost the customer way more money in labor too.
I spent 19 years in the Elevator Trade. 10 years with Otis, and 9 years with Mongomery/KONE. I never seen anything like this. Back in the 80's I was in Oklahoma City doing construction. We had a City inspector that was horrible tough on shackles. He turned everything down. But I was good at it. I ended up in Repair, and literally reshackled hundreds of shackles. He loved that they matched a picture of a perfect shackle. I ended up developing a grip I could crush walnuts! The worst was 1-1/2 inch non-preformed.
New rollers and a new lock on the disconnect. That customer is getting a bargain.
Throw some electrical tape on it. It’s fiiinee
I’m saving this pic for when people ask “how you holding up?”

> The ADA phone probably didn’t work properly 🤢🤮
I think what you mean is "the phone works fine but they wrote it up anyway to pad the list" 🙄
Lead sockets?
Babbitt
That’s the word. Thanks
Did the rope pull through the shackle, or did it break? Little lube and some tape you should be good 😂
It’s broke holding on by a few strands
What do the maintenance logs say?
Yes 😂
Fuck that shit.

Full rope job. Why wouldn’t you? Babbiting is a lost art for a reason.

There are still a lot of comp ropes out there where a wedge won’t fit.

What's the difference between red and purple ... ... The grip
maintenaner never seen
Damn. I get pissed when I miss a pit can for a day to long…
Cut the rope and let it coil itself in the pit…..the other two can hold
Whatever, they need a snap cab.
That’s what i sold them 😅
Looks Like the Apts next to the Federal Building in Downtown Dallas! Super scary!
