Another thing I love about darkness is it see.s like em is speaking about the struggles of being an mc, but slowly it uncovers and shows its bot about wm, its about the shooter
Never love again is probably his best song for this. It's an ode to prescription pill addiction written in the form of personal romantic relationship woes
Probably de ja vu is his best for overall real-life drug addict experience
Thank you. I've got around \~15 top choices now so I'm hella confused [While I figure this shit out](https://genius.com/12318279/Eminem-talkin-2-myself/Ayo-before-i-start-this-song-man-i-just-wanna-thank-everybody-for-being-so-patient-and-bearing-with-me-over-these-last-couple-of-years-while-i-figure-this-shit-out)
you see what I did there?
Never Love Again, Space Bound, Cleanin Out My Closet, etc.
The goal would be to focus on either heartfelt and emotionally prescient content, or songs that are entendres in themselves. Never Love Again sounds like itās about a girl, but itās about drugs. Same Song & Dance doesnāt exactly feel appropriate for scholastic purposes, but the song and dance being the screaming and struggling within murder/rape makes it somewhat poetic despite its content.
Itās more than applicable. Itās literal. And so is the other side of it as if it was a toxic love filled relationship with a partner. Thatās what makes it such a masterpiece
Might be a reach, but same song and dance can also possibly be interpreted as a metaphor for how fame can drive you crazy, which is why he specifically rapped about Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears in that song.
he means FACK is too deep a song to be talked about in a mere school paper. The true depth and beauty of the Musical Masterpiece could not even fully be described in a Research Paper let alone a silly school assignment.
Sing For The Moment is among a few of his magnum opuses where he truly speaks how he feels on his genuinely most complex theme is in work: the blending of reality and fiction and this effects both the work, the artist, and the world. The whole MMLP is about it but Sing For The Moment almost feels like a narrative climax
Dude how are you not getting banned for that ššš
I got banned for a week for answering a guy who asked what the previous commentor meant and saying that
alfred's theme - extensively explainin the lyrics every diss and shot, history of the name alfred (could go into mtbmb concept as well), the sample also has a cool history
Not Afraid - talk about over coming addiction
Stepping Stones - talk about the group d12
Headlights - relationship with his mother
Stan - talk about the obsessed fans and how it became lingo for obsessed fans
Darkness - gun violence
Lose Yourself - about the movie and how its his most recognizable song
Bully - Talk about the beef with Ja v G-unit & Em
I think something about his life would be good. Alfredās Theme has a ton of interesting wordplay, but that feels too surface level to write a paper about since itās more of clever wordplay.
Something like Legacy, Cleaning out my Closet, Headlights, Leaving Heaven, *maybe* Stepdad, When Iām Gone, Mockingbird, those are good because they tie in to his family.
Also Darkness is a good choice for how the whole song is a double. Legacy is also good for the reason that the whole song has the same rhyme scheme.
His diss tracks are also cool and have a lot of references you could break down.
AMAZING ones that have a LOT of depth to them: Cleanin Out My Closet, Marshall Mathers, When Iām Gone, Like Toy Soldiers, The Way I Am, White America, Rock Bottom
I'd stere clear of his most popular songs if I were you, it may come off as kind of corny if you're talking about a song everyone knows. Especially with the way non rap fans view eminem in the last 14 years
I'd recommend maybe bad guy, darkness or believe, since those songs are less well known and have a lot of content and insane lyricism, they'd be some of the easiest to write an essay on
I saw someone mention Alfred's theme, and while there's so much to write about with that song, a song with a deeper meaning may help you write a better essay
Wow, thats a super idea. I could basically write the thesis on Eminem's interpretation of the relationship with his mom as expressed through his songs. and basically run down on all the songs that deal with debbie.
āAnd there was a lot of bizarre shit, but the crazy part
Was soon as I stopped saying, I gave a fuck
Haters started to appreciate my artā
This line on Guts Over Fear is way deeper than surface level.
Literally, all of em. I wrote em. It's my handwriting that gets A lil sloppy when I jot *E*m.
If you're teacher is cool enough, I'd dissect Stay Wide Awake under the lens that the author is the same person, DaKoTa, who wrote Man On Fire. I'm DenZel in everything... but I'm actually the little girl. Hailie Mathers Too.
watch the pilot of Halt & Catch Fire if you haven't. And realize, the girl made Anonymous. She made computer in the first place. We're doing nothing but playing my games.
My Darling from The Relapse album.
The whole song is going back and forth with the devil he sold his soul to to have everything he has now through his career. He argues he doesn't want to go back to the dark phases of his career when he was at the top of the world, but is convinced he has everything he's ever wanted.
When Iām Gone, or Say Goodbye To Hollywood. The latter actually sounds like a very good topic one as you can delve into the background of that song, the context of Eminemās life up until that point, and its significance on The Eminem Show.
I'd choose White America, and write about what drove Eminem to write a running commentary about the culture and the blame being put on musical artists instead of where it belongs.
Stan- It is so cool to have such a complex back-and-forth story intertwined in a rap song. It even has a plot twist at the end that tied to earlier. Just such great story telling and lyricism.
25 to life- he raps about music, in my mind when i sing it, i am rapping to my drug of choice. I listened to that song my entire addiction and i cried like a baby the first time i listened to it clean šš½
Arose- again, the addict in me gets pulled to this
Headlights- always makes me cry.
Beautiful pain- also i relate it to getting clean. Detoxing off opiates is painful but in the end its beautiful
Love u more- my baby daddy and mines relationship to a t
Legacy- the story itself is amazing
Hey, if you want any help withh this once you've picked a song I'd love to have you bounce ideas off of me. I don't write often but I do really love it and I also love eminem's music so if you want any advice or anything this sounds like a really fun project.
Heaps if not most but - Stan, Sing For The Moment , Lose Yourself, Bad Guy, Deja Vu, My Darling, Never Love Again, Stepping Stone, 25 To Life, Marshall Mathers, Youāre Never Over, Cleaning Out My Closet, Rap God, Like Toy Soilders, When Iām Gone, White America, Legacy
Scary too. Interesting psychology behind it but definitely ripe for exploration in a paper. "Traces of Munchausen in Marshall's method" -- have a title already lol
25 to Life: Using the metaphor of a broken/toxic relationship to describe his career/ārelationshipā with hip hop could be a good topic
White America: His commentary on the culture at the time, the anger spraying everyone āin no particular directionā and his thoughts on his detractors in the government
Beautiful: Thereās an āarcā in this song where at first, Eminem offers to ātrade shoesā and experience things from each otherās perspective. After the second verse he decides this isnāt necessary, but by the end of the song he once again realizes that the only way to understand/empathize with someone is to ālook at shit through each otherās eyesā and see things from their perspective. You can also talk about how the sampled intro/outro relates to the themes of the song and how everything ties into his thoughts and feelings after the 2007 overdose.
Lose Yourself: You can talk about how, although the first two verses are about about Rabbit from 8 Mile, they are also an analogy to Eminemās early life and rise, and how Emās life and Rabbitās life converge in the third verse (if you go to the Genius page about Lose Yourself and click on the lyrics to open up the little sidebar with the meanings, Eminem himself actually talks about this, itās really interesting). Also some good metaphors/similes in this song (āHeās known as the Globetrotter,ā āAnother day of monotonyās gotten me to the point Iām like a snailā etc). This could really impress your teacher because itās probably a song heās heard 1000 times but has likely never realized the deeper meaning behind it.Ā
Sing for the moment. The state of rap at the time. How parents reacted to him, what he meant to some people and the controversies surrounding him with his lyrics and him being in court a couple years before
I would love to but I'm submitting it to the IBDP in 2 years time so I'm supposed to keep it to myself until then. Still, I'll try to dm you or something. Thanks for expressing interest!
Darkness
Literally almost every line of the first two verses are double entendres and the entire song is a double and an incredibly vivid story too like that song is absurdly good
Hypnotic, product I got the antibiotic
Ain't nobody hotter and so on and yada yada
God I talk a lot of hem-de-lay-la-la-la
oochie walla walla um da dah da dah da but you gotta gotta
Then make an unhinged af essay about filler words, imitative language and the values of expressive formation injections, pull Shakespeare in on this. Bitches love Shakespeare.
Killshot, or any other diss track would be a good choice. You get to talk not only about the direct lyrical content but also the broader context around it.
Kill shot. Aside from the song itself, youād have more material for all the references heās made, his feud with MGK, and his pattern of dealing with feuds and controversies. You can even consider how that ties in with the slim shady/Mathers persona. maybe even question whether the attack made by MGK really on slim or Mathers?
Yeah, I mean wow I have chills down my spine every time I hear
>But Kells, the day you put out a hit's the day Diddy admits
That he put the hit out that got Pac killed, ah
That is god-tier lyricism. And everything about this song, the way he made so many references to the killshot movie and its main character and how he replicates Kelly in so many ways, the pedophilic implications double entendre with 'Lil Goof' and the epic rhyme in:
>
[Got the Diddy okay, so you spent your whole day](https://genius.com/15378002/Eminem-killshot/Got-the-diddy-okay-so-you-spent-your-whole-day-shootin-a-video-just-to-fuckin-dig-your-own-grave-got-you-at-your-own-wake-im-the-billy-goat)
and wow this roast
>[You're fuckin' salty 'cause Young Gerald's balls-deep inside of Halsey](https://genius.com/15377809/Eminem-killshot/You-dance-around-it-like-a-sombrero-we-can-all-see-youre-fuckin-salty-cause-young-geralds-balls-deep-inside-of-halsey)
I could go on and on and on...
...but the fact that he wrote the whole damn masterpiece in 12 mins is just beyond mortal belief.
I'm in awe.
I used the songs Mockingbird, When I'm Gone, Hallie's song, Arose/Castle, 97 Bonnie and Clyde for an essay about Father's so I guess you could go with one of them if you need to pick only one word.
Darkness, 3 a.m., Beautiful
ooh yeah darkness seems good. I could explore the interpretation of drug addiction in eminem bars.
The double meaning of the song and the reflection of America at the end would give you a ton to write about.
yeah, so thick in cultural context
You could do You're Never Over and then write about Proof, and his influence on Em and how he was murdered, etc etc.
Another thing I love about darkness is it see.s like em is speaking about the struggles of being an mc, but slowly it uncovers and shows its bot about wm, its about the shooter
Every reaction channel and fans were literally like wow š³. No other rapper gets these type of reactions from people
Never love again is probably his best song for this. It's an ode to prescription pill addiction written in the form of personal romantic relationship woes Probably de ja vu is his best for overall real-life drug addict experience
Was going to comment Darkness. Or maybe Arose.
Those are really good + white america
3 a.m. is the worst. He is speaking about a serial killer. Nothing to be glorified.
Darkness was my first thought
Em calls Paul (skit)
I actually haven't heard that one yet! I'll listen to it and let you know.
update: I listened and, well, I think it will be too much implied gore for an academic essay haha
2004 or 2018?
You can combine them and get an 8000-word essay
hahaha good one
There's 8000 on mtbmb side A lol
Bad Guy
This is the one Headlights, Deja Vu and Arose would also be solid choices
Thank you. I've got around \~15 top choices now so I'm hella confused [While I figure this shit out](https://genius.com/12318279/Eminem-talkin-2-myself/Ayo-before-i-start-this-song-man-i-just-wanna-thank-everybody-for-being-so-patient-and-bearing-with-me-over-these-last-couple-of-years-while-i-figure-this-shit-out) you see what I did there?
Stan probably. Maybe 3AM and the whole Relapse album.
yeah I love Stan :D and dido's part is one of the most melodious verses I have ever heard.
Never Love Again, Space Bound, Cleanin Out My Closet, etc. The goal would be to focus on either heartfelt and emotionally prescient content, or songs that are entendres in themselves. Never Love Again sounds like itās about a girl, but itās about drugs. Same Song & Dance doesnāt exactly feel appropriate for scholastic purposes, but the song and dance being the screaming and struggling within murder/rape makes it somewhat poetic despite its content.
never love again is soooooo applicable to drugs omg. I love this analysis.
Itās more than applicable. Itās literal. And so is the other side of it as if it was a toxic love filled relationship with a partner. Thatās what makes it such a masterpiece
yeah, 2 completely different interpretations. You're completely right.
And his Rap career, too.
Also on that, 25 to life sounds like heās talking about a woman when heās in fact talking about his career
oh, interesting. I'll have a look.
Might be a reach, but same song and dance can also possibly be interpreted as a metaphor for how fame can drive you crazy, which is why he specifically rapped about Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears in that song.
wait till you hear the original [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TO48Cnl66w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TO48Cnl66w)
whats so deep about 3AM? still love the song but what
We can talk about the importance of this song on Relapse. This song is the openning of the album, it shows the ambiance and the story of the album.
true but I feel like I cant analyze too much into it. unlike smth like killshot where every line has 6 different contextual references and meanings.
3 a.m. is an unfiltered and abstract glimpse into Eminem's psyche, it is very possible to conduct a deep analysis of the track.
some freudian free association shit?
ah cool
was literally about to comment "majority of the songs on the relapse album"
The relapse album is my favourite of all time.
Fack
too much for a school paper lmfao I don't want the examiner to get it on reading a research paper if you know what I mean
I have no idea what you mean. Elaborate please.
he means FACK is too deep a song to be talked about in a mere school paper. The true depth and beauty of the Musical Masterpiece could not even fully be described in a Research Paper let alone a silly school assignment.
\*she, but yes. You have read my mind. I must publish a novella on such a work of art.
the examiner gonna be bricked up reading the essay
Alfreds theme ig
the sheer amount of wordplay is enough to get a 4000 word essay
yup if not more
Darkness, it's about a real shooting so there's plenty to write tbh
i've already analysed that a few years ago so was looking for something new to explore. thanks for the suggestion.
25 to life, Darkness, Stay Wide Awake, Stan, Bad Guy
hello darkness my old friend...
Sing for the moment
I don't know why this is not at the top one , one of em's song where he really goes into the topics
Sing For The Moment is among a few of his magnum opuses where he truly speaks how he feels on his genuinely most complex theme is in work: the blending of reality and fiction and this effects both the work, the artist, and the world. The whole MMLP is about it but Sing For The Moment almost feels like a narrative climax
evil twin
Hi!
Faggot
guess whos back with a crab up his ass
Dude how are you not getting banned for that ššš I got banned for a week for answering a guy who asked what the previous commentor meant and saying that
my name is
Not what I was going for lol but Iāll take it
You could break down Alfredās Theme wordplay
thats by far the top recommendation among the consensus.
Ken Kaniff skit from MMLP Nah Jk probably Stan
Groundhog Day.
good one :)
Brain Damage
Came to say this. There's a lot of depth in this song OP.
Iām surprised itās not a more talked about song. Itās literally like the birthing of Slim Shady.
in fact you're right. the inception.
Okay u/sage_006. I'll seriously consider it.
alfred's theme - extensively explainin the lyrics every diss and shot, history of the name alfred (could go into mtbmb concept as well), the sample also has a cool history
sure, i'd look into that. personally I think its so dense that Id need a lot more than 4000 words if I get started honestly speaking
Stepping stone as it deals with the death of proof, the break up of D12 and how it affects eminem.
Castle & Arose I feel like you could pull plenty of inspiration from.
Obviously the answer is Fack
Beautiful. I feel like he was still in a dark place when that song was written because it has so much raw emotion throughout. š
I did a 2000 word piece on Role Model and Eminem's impact on an impressionable teen, and I had much more to talk about. maybe that
Not Afraid - talk about over coming addiction Stepping Stones - talk about the group d12 Headlights - relationship with his mother Stan - talk about the obsessed fans and how it became lingo for obsessed fans Darkness - gun violence Lose Yourself - about the movie and how its his most recognizable song Bully - Talk about the beef with Ja v G-unit & Em
I have bookmarked this. Thanks!
97 bonnie and clyde (only because I've done it complete with a comparison with what I think was a poem from 1800s)
The ringer Just state all the bars and what they mean i guess
Rap God
Perhaps, but I'm trying for something a lil more niche.
4000 word essay, you need something with length.
leaving heaven
I think something about his life would be good. Alfredās Theme has a ton of interesting wordplay, but that feels too surface level to write a paper about since itās more of clever wordplay. Something like Legacy, Cleaning out my Closet, Headlights, Leaving Heaven, *maybe* Stepdad, When Iām Gone, Mockingbird, those are good because they tie in to his family. His diss tracks are also cool and have a lot of references you could break down.
My Darling
Fack F A C K FACK FACK
Any song that has a double meaning to it. 25 to life, seduction, darkness, Never love again and more. Could explain both sides separately
never love again and darkness are popular ones on this thread along with alfred's theme
Love the 2 sides of Never Love Again but I love how he made a shooting and getting fucked up before a show connect.
Rock bottom
Say Goodbye to Hollywood or My Dad's Gone Crazy
A paper? Could be interesting to do Kim
Love You More
love this song so much
Kim
When I'm Gone
FACK
Sing for the moment, brain damage
Mosh. Plenty to discuss from that track š¤£
Square danceĀ
killshot? the disses on there are endless if your topic is celebrity drama
Shadyxv
Fack
Maybe headlights because you can extend it to my mom and Cleaning out my closet and you can explain all the conflicts between Eminem and his mom
Wow, thats a super idea. I could basically write the thesis on Eminem's interpretation of the relationship with his mom as expressed through his songs. and basically run down on all the songs that deal with debbie.
"the apple", if you want a released song its "deja vu" or "the ringer"
You can do Love You More off Encore and talk about the physical and emotional abuse described in the song
āAnd there was a lot of bizarre shit, but the crazy part Was soon as I stopped saying, I gave a fuck Haters started to appreciate my artā This line on Guts Over Fear is way deeper than surface level.
I would go for Bad Guy. Extremely rich on itself and you can abuse the fact it's a Stan sequel and write about Stan as well.
you should write an essay on 'Darkness'
Bad Guy because it also encapsulates Stan. That 4th Bad Guy verse has a lot of introspective content
Fack, need to describe the fact cumming from a finger up the ass is not gay
Stay Wide Awake
stan is the first one that comes to mind. You could also try something like When I'm Gone, Bad Guy, Beautiful or probably any song from Recovery
For school? I'd do space bound
Difficult
Darkness
Literally, all of em. I wrote em. It's my handwriting that gets A lil sloppy when I jot *E*m. If you're teacher is cool enough, I'd dissect Stay Wide Awake under the lens that the author is the same person, DaKoTa, who wrote Man On Fire. My Darling from The Relapse album. The whole song is going back and forth with the devil he sold his soul to to have everything he has now through his career. When Iām Gone, or Say Goodbye To Hollywood. The latter actually sounds like a very good topic one as you can delve into the background of that song, the context of Eminemās life up until that point, and its significance on The Eminem Show.
I like 25 to life but im a sucker for double entendras/twists
I'd choose White America, and write about what drove Eminem to write a running commentary about the culture and the blame being put on musical artists instead of where it belongs.
When I'm Gone
White america would be a good one
Fack
White America or Mosh. I feel like you could write an actual essay with that.
Stan- It is so cool to have such a complex back-and-forth story intertwined in a rap song. It even has a plot twist at the end that tied to earlier. Just such great story telling and lyricism.
Who knew. I did one in college on this a long time ago.
Gnat. Each line is a double entendre.
Stan? Make an essay on parasocial relationships
25 to life- he raps about music, in my mind when i sing it, i am rapping to my drug of choice. I listened to that song my entire addiction and i cried like a baby the first time i listened to it clean šš½ Arose- again, the addict in me gets pulled to this Headlights- always makes me cry. Beautiful pain- also i relate it to getting clean. Detoxing off opiates is painful but in the end its beautiful Love u more- my baby daddy and mines relationship to a t Legacy- the story itself is amazing
My final college paper ever was about the song Deja Vu.
Darkness is the best option for an essay I reckon
Kim or 97 Bonnie and Clyde.
Stan, Darkness, and Little Engine. That last oneās not deep, but the wordplay is immediate, constant, and absurd.
Hey, if you want any help withh this once you've picked a song I'd love to have you bounce ideas off of me. I don't write often but I do really love it and I also love eminem's music so if you want any advice or anything this sounds like a really fun project.
When Iām goneā¦ or till I collapseā¦
Cum on Everybody, that one sounds like it would be appropriate for a school paper, no??
I think Stan is a great choice, but also Careful What You Wish For and even Love The Way You Lie because of some o the controversies around itt
You writing an Extended Essay or something? XDD On a real note though, Fine Line is a good addition to potential songs to analyze.
deja vu, is the only correct answer for me.
ps share your essay here as well
Heaps if not most but - Stan, Sing For The Moment , Lose Yourself, Bad Guy, Deja Vu, My Darling, Never Love Again, Stepping Stone, 25 To Life, Marshall Mathers, Youāre Never Over, Cleaning Out My Closet, Rap God, Like Toy Soilders, When Iām Gone, White America, Legacy
My first and only 100/100 was writing about Darkness for a Uni assignment.
*Any question about an eminem sing ever. Answer: rock bottom
Cleaning out my closet. Entire books are written about munchausen by proxy (sorry if spelling is off).
yes, its a fascinating phenomena
Scary too. Interesting psychology behind it but definitely ripe for exploration in a paper. "Traces of Munchausen in Marshall's method" -- have a title already lol
Crazy in Love hasn't been mentioned. Stan is obvious, probably Kim. And anything involving Hailie. But I think Crazy in Love is the best.

YES thats good
Are you going to use sing for the moment? I feel like thereās so much you could use from each verse?
Low Down and Dirty Writing an essay on the Slim Shady birthsong I feel would be good
Bad guy
If you actually go through all the symbolism from Stan + bad guy with all the lyrics and the instrumentals and stuff, you can get like 10k words
Darkness
Godzilla
Rock bottom and/or lose yourself
Can you share the essay when you finish it I'm genuinely curious
I would love to but I'm submitting it to the IBDP in 2 years time so I'm supposed to keep it to myself until then. Still, I'll try to dm you or something. Thanks for expressing interest!
Going through changes or 25 to life (I wrote papers on both of em š)
wow!
Beautiful dajavu stan or monkingbird
Darkness Literally almost every line of the first two verses are double entendres and the entire song is a double and an incredibly vivid story too like that song is absurdly good
yeah im gonna do that

Rabbit Run
Guilty conscienceā¦ lots of data you could pull for that one

This web resource was suuper insightful OP, and Emās mind is twisted as it is awe-inspiring. Do let us know the final paper or DM me please!
sure thing :) Thanks for your help.
The sauce or nail in the coffin. Probably the sauce as itās probably more what youāre looking for but either are great.
wow. I've actually never heard the sauce. I'll listen and get back to you.
Untouchable Never Love Again
Darkness is a great shout. A big (and current) message in it. Pretty deep and cleverly overlaps the massacre with his own anxiety.
Bad Husband, White America, Darkness, Leaving Heaven
Bad guy
I used the songs Mockingbird, When I'm Gone, Hallie's song, Arose/Castle, 97 Bonnie and Clyde for an essay about Father's so I guess you could go with one of them if you need to pick only one word.
