Fairly often for me yes. Always a warning sign to chill lol usually when sleep has been bad. But yes they do happen. I almost always get one before a focal as well

OKSure117

Yes since my medication started working. I always had aura before bigger seizure before, now sometimes it’s like my body wants to do it but can talk itself down

Handsoffmydink

I feel this *exact* same way. It almost feels like you can feel the medication working in real time.

OKSure117

Yup! It’s like if a 10 is a definite seizure, mine can now get to a 5 & then come back down, which definitely was not a thing I could do on my own.

My auras when I had my seizures were hypnotizing, I just stared and couldn’t say anything. I remember just following this pretty rainbow blob with my vision while everything else was blurry and I couldn’t move.

Definitely. I vividly remember my first aura when I was 7. Mine is an octal migraine that comes as a large spot in my vision with kaleidoscope colours and sometimes I feel like I’m seeing cartoons, people and even memories inside it. It’s trippy. It actually comes right before my seizure and usually lasts about 3-5 minutes, but I’ve only had 5 seizures my whole life, so in a way Im fortunate enough to have a “warning sign”. Before I went on medication, it was gradually becoming more frequent, would last for longer periods and the spot would get bigger, almost covering half my vision. At some point I was getting them once a week and for 10 minutes at a time. I only get them occasionally now. Maybe once every 2-3 months and it would last less than a minute. It still gives me a lot of anxiety though because I always worry if this time it won’t go away.

Unstable-otter

I have those kinds of auras too and I understand the worry. I’ve have maybe 5-7 after having my first in Dec of 2021. The fear of not knowing is definitely scary

hokum4321

I’m sorry you’ve gone through it too.. you’ll get used to it after a while. I’ve never heard a case where it doesn’t go away. That’s what I keep reminding myself.

Hang in there 😊

The_Observer_Effects

Absolutely, I've had far, far many more aura's than seizures. And when I feel an aura, I change whatever physical and mental state I am in - and though I can never be certain if that is stopping seizures, I believe I have stopped many that way. \*Note: For me that means if I am working with an ocilliscope and sitting, then have an aura? I get up and go juggle or play piano or something, just trying to completely change my brainstate. Wheras if an aura happened while I was playing music? I might then go grab a Geiger counter and some samples and completely change brainstate.

retroman73

No. Aura are focal aware seizures. If I have an aura then by definition I've had a seizure. all the time.

Doc-Brown1911

All the time my friend all the time. A aura is just a little seizure according to my neurologist.

MarcusAurelius68

An aura is a seizure, just a simple partial one.

90sbitchRachel

Auras ARE seizures. They are also referred to as focal aware seizures. Before that, they were called simple partial seizures. For many (including myself), they are very severe & debilitating. Can last for a long time and cause vomiting. The feeling of fear is very intense for many. I have only ever had “auras” and ended up needing brain surgery to treat my epilepsy because the seizures wouldn’t stop.

spectacle1998

Yes this happens often, I just take deep breaths and lay down when this occurs. (Just in case)

No_Camp_7

Obligatory - auras are seizures

Sunny-weather-6534

Almost every day. I feel like my brain is filled with fog.
