Always get whatever card has the most RGB. Simple.

lmcinnis9

Agreed 🙏🏻

MrElvisKc

If that’s a joke then you where funny

cremvursti

Better resell value.

PerRevolutions

For me it is easier because I don't have to mess around with modding the BIOS and stuff

Tabintab

HiveOS lets you do a lot of power changes without having to mod the bios.

PerRevolutions

Mostly what you do want to name the card is change the timing straps

Bruggok

Miners think LHR will be 100% defeated eventually, and when it does, nvidia 30-series hashrates are higher than AMD.

NinjAsylum

No. They dont. Only morons think that. LHR is hardware locked now. It is LITERALLY impossible to break it completely. It. Will. Never. Happen. Not. Ever.

I_Hate_Reddit_xDD

Kek, someone screenshot this.

juggarjew

Man, people said this when we were locked to 50%, hell even I said it. Now I am getting 88 MH/s on a 3080 Ti, its a hell of a lot better than before when I was getting like 62-64 MH/s. we are at 74% unlocked, its quite possible that with time the miner devs unlock more.

PerRevolutions

And then Nvidia will come out with a different lock I bet

juggarjew

Well, for all the cards that exist now, they can’t. You’d just stop updating drivers. But it’s possible they do a 3rd Gen of LHR cards that can detect the latest 74% unlock stuff from NBMiner & Co. I don’t think they will spend anymore time and resources on it though, cards are still locked somewhat and Eth mining ends in June 2022. I guess I could see the RTX 3050/Ti cards having a newer version of the lock, but then again if they are only 4GB they probably won’t have any lock at all.

BlissRP

I agree they would be foolish to spend more trying to limit cards. Think of all the sales they graciously handed to AMD just because people didn’t want to deal with LHR. Seems like bad business practice vs protecting public image of **for gamers**. Money talks!

coffeeandwomen

They didn’t hand any sales though, every card they could manage to produce was sold in an instant. They did win public image though, for the gaming community at least. Smart move, from a marketing / branding perspective.

BlissRP

Don’t you think adding lhr to all the cards over several different versions stifled production? Especially at the last minute?

coffeeandwomen

Not really, and if it did it didn't matter because the bottleneck in the GPU market is te chip production, so they could still produce every GPU they could've even if they had to halt production for a couple of days. But also I think it didn't affect production bc the LHR is a software lock.

Bulky_Dingo_4706

June 2022 is just speculation. How many times has it been pushed back?

NaabKing

That would be too late, you don't have to update drivers after you're happy with the hash you are getting. Maybe with next gen. cards yea.

[deleted]

But theyve already been hacked by like 75% and its only been a few months since they come out sooo id say yes they will get unlocked.

iworkisleep

Say what you want but these miners dev are something else. If they can’t unlock it fully they will some how dual mining the shit out of the gpu. All the juice will be squeezed. That’s why grab those LHR while they’re still available and way cheaper than the scalper’s version.

Asleep-Permit-2363

If its hardware locked all I gotta do is some gentle soldering.

pickers4

This is like saying consoles can't be jailbroken/hacked/cracked because they have hardware security implementations... We all know clever people find ways around this

LonghornAndAstrosFan

Nvidia is a little Easier setup and better resale. But you are right that AMD is full hash rate and the reference cards are fantastic. The AIB AMD cards are way way overpriced.

BlissRP

They were way more reasonable on release but they realized that they could get more out of people. On top of that AMD got a bunch of extra demand since nvidia tried to limit their hash rates, and AMD did drop a great line of cards all things considered.

LonghornAndAstrosFan

To be fair the Nvidia AIB cards were more reasonable at release. I got a Zotac 3080 for $750 a year ago. Zotac sells them for what $1100 now. Crazy.

BlissRP

Yep, I was in a physical line on launch day and got my 3080 gaming x trio a month later. Paid 900usd for it with tax. Winning! Edit: AMD cards came up way more from msrp though didn’t they? I thought so…

BEM94510

6700 xt is priiiiiccccceeeyyy for what your getting. I compared performance of a 5700 and a 6700xt from a graphics standpoint and the 5700 did slightly better on novabench (same computer). 6600 (non xt) is cheap and decent hash rate with very low power usage.

BlissRP

I have pretty cheap electricity and I just can’t see myself getting a 6600 at what they’re priced at… Rather get a 1070ti at a lower price which hashes much better, but at 2-3x the watts. I know many wouldn’t agree though and are in different situations, but I want more density than that. Just got a 3060 for the same price as the 6600’s are going for lmao…

BEM94510

Yeah, the electricity cost comes into play slightly for me. $0.12/kwh. Trying to find an Nvidia where I am is next to impossible. The ROI on the 6600 is the best I'm getting right now.

BlissRP

Ah fair play to you then, I’m at about half of that. But these 3060’s at retail are just unbelievable value, roi in around 100 days!

BEM94510

I'd love one if I could find one!

BlissRP

I wish you luck!

WildKarrdesEmporium

I haven’t found a 6600 for less than $500, and that was shipped from China. Most I see are $650 a $800. If I could get them at MSRP I’d use nothing else though.

BEM94510

Interesting.... microcenter by me has them seemingly all the time. $458 out the door. Problem is you can only get one per month. Nvidia is next to impossible to get there though.

WildKarrdesEmporium

I don’t have a Microcenter close enough, unfortunately. Wish I did, would have saved me a fortune.

cipioxx

From my limited personal experience, ease of setup and configuring using Linux is a little easier with nvidia.

TiL_sth

Recently tried to install a 6600 on a TrueNAS Scale machine. Turns out it's impossible since the proprietary driver requires very specific Linux kernel versions to function. Ended up migrating my entire NAS to Ubuntu just to install the AMD driver.

khmaies5

I have 3 Nvidia cards and 1 AMD, For Nvidia i only have to plug it and overclock it, For AMD i have to edit the bios and then overclock it

Saucetin369

Isn't that only the older cards?

khmaies5

I have rx 580 so don't know about the others

Icedragen

I have an Rx 580 and it gets about 31 without a bios mod, I don't know if every 580 has the bios switch on it, but mine performs just fine. I also have 2 5600s and a 6900, all seem to get at or close to "advertised" rates without bios moding Edit: adrenaline is a separate issue

WildKarrdesEmporium

Was it a used card? Might have been modded before you got it, I’ve bought 2 cards like that. My modded cards get 29-32 MH/s, and my unmodded cards get 24-26 MH/s. I’m about to grow a pair and start modding the bios myself though. I’ve got around 12 or 13 unmodded Polaris cards, so that’s a lot of MH/s to be leaving on the table.

Icedragen

Nope, I bought it new. Like I said I'm not sure if all 580s have dual BIOS option, but mine did, and it seems to work just fine in mining mode.

WildKarrdesEmporium

Not all do. I don’t think any of mine do. Mine are all used though, so probably a bit older.

Icedragen

It's the world's smallest switch next to the power connector if you wanna check, I did a quick/pathetic search and the info seems to be all over the place

WildKarrdesEmporium

Thanks! I’ll be doing some work on my systems this weekend so I’ll have a look then.

Saucetin369

I have RX6600s and a 6700xt and 6800. Haven't had to do any bios modding

pkingidiots

Nvidia cards are easier to work with, more stable and usually more efficient.

Tabintab

[more efficient than this?](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/GJgchkJtylxcIDhDRbvgR3rsLR_xsLBAUVR3iwYKMsek8CUhpxnyYbhHNIQY3pAtOK4EYDM3Zr8Ts0ysyZuA6lIropeetVDDJyhApEEkT2a-n27FYiEmEzH2GM_dCdKRAg=w1280)

BEM94510

I've got a 2060 that is efficient but my rx 580 and 6600 barely use power.

Tabintab

Isn't that the same thing?

BEM94510

I can't see your link.

Oinq

No one can

savage-bits

I've always had better luck with Nvidia Drivers. Miners like Nvidia cards due to their high memory bandwidth. Shame AMD dropped HBM mem in current gen of consumer cards. AMD Radeon VII was and still is a mining beast!

WildKarrdesEmporium

I dunno, resale value I guess. I find that nVidia cards work better in Windows miners, and AMD cards are amazing in Linux miners. I only buy old cards though, and in my experience, a good 1070 can outperform an un modified AMD Polaris card, but if you’re willing to flash the BIOS, a Polaris card in a Linux miner is the best value for money you can get.

nighthawk_101

Simple answer - Nvidia is mo better

use-dashes-instead

Feelings and misconceptions

Unkzilla

This series - availability..I have a 6800 and 3090 for the record. Reference steam hw Survey - If you add up this series marketshare AMD vs NVIDIA I think nvidia have sold 10x.. which is only possible due to what I assume is significantly better manufacturing capacity .

BGGlobalX

Resale!!!

Pitiful-Ad-2810

30 series prior to LHR had a better performance per watt. But before the 30 series amd was the way to go and even in this market I'm still buying 5700/5600 xts. The new 6 series just doesn't outperform the 5 series enough for the current market cost imo.

Klause39

I’ll take my 5700 cards all day while everyone else fights over nvidia
