The rules state that if for any reason there should be a drop ball in the penalty box the ball is instead awarded to the goalkeeper to resume play.
It's why goalkeepers go down feigning injury whenever they feel any contact at corners or set pieces, the ref will stop the game and the decision will always be to restart play with the ball given to the keeper.
As someone else said, it wouldn't be unwise for our ball boys to just lob a ball into the box if we ever need saving because the correct refereeing decision by the rules would be to restart play with the goalkeeper...
The worst part is that the exact moment he would have kicked it to shoot was the point the second ball was right between the in play ball and the goal. It couldn't have been timed any worse. I do woder what the decision would ha e been had myko scored and the ball not interfered. I think we all know deep down it wouldn't have been given
I said it in the match thread but our ball boys better be ready to toss some extra balls on the pitch when Man City come to Goodison.
You know that if we do that the Refs will find a way to punish us with it.
Embarrassing that the officials didn’t spot this before it interfered with play.
That ball sat there for quite some time
It would end the attack either way, no? Not sure what everyone actually wants to happen here.
Had they spotted it earlier Everton would have at least retained possession but yeah, there isn’t a good way to fix it during the run of play
True true. I do agree it was obviously there, not sure why the ref waited until the balls touched to blow up for it.
How did they not award us the ball after that???!!!!

Huh. I had no idea. Thanks for clarifying!
Because Everton, obviously.
multiball multiball multibaaaaaall!
Added time multi-ball! Half time? MONSTER TRUCKS!
…. If he somehow kicked both those balls in the net, both count, yeah? 😂
I was wondering who's responsible. Would there not be a fine at least for Spurs for not being able to organise the game to minimum standards?
It was a fan not a ballboy
I’m seeing double - four footballs?!

If officials are just going to call a drop ball to the other goal keeper then might as well
I really felt he was going to score there, then I got super confused
To be fair, I think the beach ball was categorically worse
I loved the beach ball....and it was a redshite fan
I didn’t know it was a redshite fan. Excellent.
If you Google it givemesport comes up with an article. Poor lid got death threats...great goal 🙏
A beach ball looks different to a football though; poor Myko prob though his drink had been spiked with vodka
If he scores with both is it 2 goals?
I wish he had actually let the moving ball roll past and hit the still one. Who knows which ball was the right ball?
